Food: I had the Meatlovers omelette with a side of fresh fruit and an English Muffin. The fruit was fresh and didn't cost a surcharge. The muffin was perfect. The omelette was full of delicious meat and covered in cheese. Wonderful!! Service: my friend and I were the only two people at that moment. Service couldn't have been better Ambiance: Paul's is a small town diner with fresh made dishes, friendly service.....oh, and over 100 different beers Overall: A++ read more

Great beer selection! Lots of craft options . We sat at the bar on a Monday morning for some breakfast. Quick friendly service . Food came out hot, fresh , and delicious. They even got the crispy bacon part right that my wife asked for . The partially grilled onions were a perfect touch to the chicken fried steak scramble . Wife loved her "fluffy" French toast . Prices were reasonable ! read more

I was looking for a good place that served liver and onions and Paul's Place is it!!! I don't understand why it has a 3.8 Yelp rating. I'd rate it a 10 for sure. Driving back home from Champaign IL to Chicago, IL, I decided to google places in route. Yelp indicated the establishment opened at 7:30am which was right on target with my trip home. I arrived a little before opening time, but at 7:30am the door opened and I was greeted by the owner, Scott. The establishment was very nice and clean, comfortable and welcoming. My server Annette was very friendly and accommodating. Now for the main reason for my visit: the liver and onions was a divine gift!!! I know that having this entree for breakfast sounds weird, but I'm on a mission and trying to eat better. Anyway, I digress. The liver was seasoned exceptionally well and was topped with grilled onions and bacon. I opted for broccoli and rice pilaf instead of potatoes. I felt like I was at my family's home. The meal was so comforting . Hats off to the chef Rolando!!!! I'm 45 minutes away from Paul's Place and I'll be making this my stop off spot going forward on my way to my second home! Thank you Scott, Annette and Rolando for a great experience. read more

I had a bad experience with server. Poor customer service dynamics. I payed for the food. Everytime I question price range or follow up on something I notice going on with service, the server or manager become real defensive, and rude. Be glad there is no Cooperate Department. I wanted to contact them. I am not the one at all. They get comfortable too fast with a regular customer who pays. Disrespect the rights of customer asking questions. I have decided to not return here again. I felt racism here. I am always placed to the side - on hold over customers who came in after me. They serve.their friends first.and its not fair. No more involvement with the company. Im thru catering to abbsolut nonsense. It's truly unfortunate that the owner has an attitude with blacks. The food is excellent. Great potential in this sense. That was truly my only motivation for me to go there. No food complaints whatsoever, just a noticeable attitude from the top. Always having something smart to say. to customers, not all. Let's say: They know who to target. I have observed the owners interaction with others. Noticeable communication issues and lacking cultural sensitivity. NATASHA read more

Stopped here for breakfast on a trip and it was delicious! Walked in to a clean, inviting atmosphere - accessible entrance with a ramp if you enter through the back door, friendly greetings from the staff (including Paul!) and food came out quickly and well prepared. We didn't get a Bloody Mary but it looked like they would have made a great one. read more

I ordered an Italian beef with fries, came with Au ju on the side. The Italian beef was sliced, thin and very flavorful. The bun was toasted and firm, and the Au ju had tons of flavor. The fries were typical crinkle fries, which I love the service was pretty good. I would definitely return and recommend my meal to anyone. I was still craving it the next day. read more

As someone who prides herself as having tasted a variety of native flavors from Chicago to New Orleans as well as several authentic international cuisines, it is sometimes disappointing to come to a smaller place like Kankakee and have a serious flavor crisis! So, when I was finally introduced to "Paul's Place", I really did not expect too much. But this place has rendered this skeptic into a believer. I have visited this place 2 more times since my first visit (because I feared that my initial low expectation led me to set a low bar for their food). But I am very excited to admit that this place is legit in terms of deliciousness. I was seriously surprised by the inclusion of alfalfa sprouts in the Paul's burger but they definitely know what they're doing. It is a good pairing for the 1000 island dressing and the bacon. I highly recommend this burger. Also, if they give you a choice between battered or crinkly cut fries, get the battered....delish! Your heart may grumble but your palate with forever be in your debt! Their chicken wing dinner seems to be a customer fave, I think.....the chicken is not spiced or anything but the batter is pretty tasty. It is simply seasoned, I believe, but having had several simply spiced chicken out there, the size of their wings is chosen well which allows them to be perfectly battered and cooked. So even when you're tasting plain chicken, every bite of the accompanying batter gives it a nice flavor and crispiness. Their garlic shrimp is not too overpowering either. It is not the best I've had but it is pretty good! I would also recommend the triple chocolate cheesecake if they have it. I don't think it was made in house, but it is good nonetheless (whatever vendor it is from). Also, they have a wide beer selection available in this area, I believe. All in all, a very pleasant experience. I highly recommend this place. With its very affordable price range, huge portions, and good flavors, I would recommend putting it on your speed dial! It'll come in handy any time you want to go out for some casual breakfast/lunch/dinner or just want to order for pick-up because it is a lazy day for cooking. read more

I was looking forward to this place because of the $3 mimosas I saw discussed on Yelp. Momma likes her mimosas!!! Unfortunately, mimosas aren't served until 10. Swing and a miss. The service was very good. The decor wasn't awesome, but in fairness, it is a bar. The worst part was the food. My omelet and my children's pancakes were decent, but my husband's eggs were nearly raw. The coup de grâce was the potatoes. Whoa, Nelly! If I were the type to send food back -- and I'm not -- these potatoes would've gone back. My husband ordered the hashbrowns; they were raw. I ordered the home fries; they were cold, old-tasting, oily, and slightly rancid. Instead, we left behind nearly untouched potato sides on both our plates. Yuck. I would have awarded only 1 star, but my omelet and the service bumped this up to 2 stars. Maybe we got them on a bad potato day? *shrug* read more

sorry about that review sounded like my phone wanted to see what it wanted to say and didn't make much sense. Remember that they clearly I had eggs Benedict the eggs OK the Hollandaise sauce actually seized and the Canadian bacon was ham instead which I wasn't used to and didn't really much like. We haven't gone back there but still might. read more

Usually Paul's is above average entree for a local bar. It was busy with a lot of retired people. The bar was empty, yet the kitchen was going full steam ahead. The portions are always good size and the servers friendly. The servers don't shun you because you don't order drinks. All in all, this is a regular person's hangout. Another above good experience from the staff and servers. read more

Amazing breakfast! Low priced, high-quality food. Order the scrambler with pecan pancakes and a doggie bag for two days worth of breakfast. Service can be hit or miss, but mostly hit. They have a huge menu, so don't feel obligated to stick to breakfast...but it is offered all day. read more

Word of the day: DECENT. Between the taps and the craft beer in the cooler at dingy Paul's Place, it's a DECENT selection knowing what's in the area. If you need to make a beer run, it's a DECENT option. read more

We really had no idea what to expect as there were no reviews posted as of yet,. After looking at the website, we felt that we should give Paul's a try. It is a no frills diner that is also a bar and is very "local" The menu was just right. We were there for breakfast. I had the pepper and egg break fast sandwich with hash browns and coffee. All items were hot, fresh and delicious. We could not tell if it was cash only but at these prices, cash expectations was very reasonable. My companion had the full order of sausage and biscuits. Once again, delicious. If you are in the Kankakee, IL area, you should give Paul's a try. read more

I thought this place use to be good. Went not too long ago & had a horrible service. My table had to wait forever to be tended to. They were out of a lot of the beer they were suppose to have. Something was wrong with the water (luckily my friend had a bottle in her purse). My friend's order was wrong... Mine was cold. Not sure if we just caught them on a bad day or what. Hmm read more

The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was good as well. Stop in for a cup of coffee or a nice, warm bowl of soup.

MANY years ago this was a great place to go for lunch. They had great homemade soups and fantastic sandwiches at a very reasonable price. Then they closed, re-opened, closed under suspicious circumstances and re-opened again. Ever since, the food is low quality, high priced. Thanks, I'll pass and go somewhere else. read more

Paul's Place is a great place to go for very solid food, good beer and all for a reasonable price. The place is clean and has a good staff. However, we went there on a Friday evening with friends and family and by 8 PM the local drunks moved in and everything shifted. I spoke with the bartender and she could not get the "boys" to settle down. I was very frustrated because of the crude language and bad jokes. After many visits during the weekdays, we had a very bad experience. Trash talk belongs outside and the bartender was helpless to assist us. So, don't let this bad experience stop you from going, however, if you have kids or elderly, stay away on a Friday or Saturday. read more

Looking for a place in the area that sells craft beer and good food? This place rocks. Playing a good mix of music from funk, modern rock, classic rock, metal, etc. Plenty of people even mid week, young women, old geezers, and middle aged folk to boot! Dancing, drinking, eating, games, sports on the screen. Now to the important part... A FULL BAR with about 130 canned and bottled craft beers plus a full rack of liquor that can wet any apatite. The food was fantastic, flavorful, plentiful and reasonable in price. Salad, dinner special, two drinks runs 16$. The bartender was fast and courteous as well as happy and talkative, the owner Paul came up to me and started a conversation and introduced himself. I'm always happy when the owner is making sure his establishment is running well and steps in to pickup a mess or ring up a customer when needed. Don't come in here thinking this is going to be a mellow romantic place to eat, It is a bar that serves good food. Please tell Paul you saw my review and if you agree with me you should leave a comment also. read more

Paul's Place - having a Midas Touch from Dogfish Head. A fantastic beer and a fantastic place to come have a craft beer with so many in stock. - Bars Near Me - Kankakee, Illinois

Horrible. That's all I can say. Yuck. No atmosphere. The food was bland. Why anyone would return here is beyond me.

Great, simple place for great food and awesome breakfast. Small town charm and old-school quality!

Just got an order delivered from Paul's Place. Everything was horrible. Fried mushrooms were doughy and had absolutely no flavor. It was like opening a can of mushrooms and heating them in the microwave, no salt or anything. Gyro had strange flavor and yet somehow no flavor. Same with other sandwich we ordered. Total waste of nearly $35. Through most of it out in the trash. Will never eat here again. read more

Paul's is an okay place in down by the river in Kankakee however it needs to be cleaned up it is old it looks old the boots are not comfortable any longer the chairs are not comfortable any longer. The food is priced really good but it's not consistent so when you order something you're not sure if it's going to taste the same as when you ordered it before. So nothing can become my favorite dish their unfortunately. When we're down to our last few bucks will hit it for lunch however it wouldn't be a go-to place nor would I recommend it. The washer is atrocious I mean bad. The staff one day can be overly friendly the next day it's like you don't exist you're not there I don't understand that. When you're spending your money in an establishment you should be welcomed with open arms whether that be real or phony. It's just a fact of business. I really don't know what else to tell them other than maybe give it a good cleaning I really suggest that you would do something that would make it more inviting. There are about 11 in our group and I know out of the 11 there's maybe one that would try it again. Not really good percentage there. read more

This has to be one of the most hole-in-the-wall, towny like places I've ever been to. But they have some dang good wings. It's VERY casual....like don't dress up. You won't fit in. The servers know everyone (like I said, it's a lil' home town place). They have all the good home cookin', greasy, savory foods that we all enjoy. The wings though are by far the best. They also have a great bar with quite the variety. The decor itself is rundown, but they make up for it with their service and good food. read more
