Their food is very good. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is very good. Wide variety of menu. Will keep going to it.

My husband and I live in Kankakee but we used to always make a to go order and pick it up because we believed they were the best. Now when you make a to go order they get annoyed if they're busy. I ALMOST said nevermind but we love their food so much I went through with the order even though I heard her say to her coworker "I don't have time for this." My order was going to be very simple too! We got the food and the portions used to be so big I made it into 2 meals, not anymore! We will be going to Yanni's next time! I could deal with them being rude but when they cut the portions down very significantly, we have no real reason to go back! Mayberry is pretty good. I wish i could remember our waitresses name because she was the best ever! she had long hair but a great waitress always makes the reviews that much better! anyways the food is great, the coffee could be a lot better but we always enjoy their skillets as they are the best in town! Even if i gave this restaurant a one star it wouldn't matter as the locals love this place but i see why. There was only one time we had a not so friendly waitress and she was new so maybe it was her nerves but other than that we will be back. read more

We stopped here for breakfast yesterday (Sunday) morning and were quite satisfied. The menu items had names related to The Andy Griffith Show, such as Clara's crepes, Aunt Bees Waffles, etc. The waitress was wonderful and kept apologizing for the wait. We didn't think the wait was all that long, maybe 10 minutes from being seated to placing our order. The food was wonderful. The inside is darling with teddy bears and red/white/blue decorations. Went in when I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter because I was craving soup like crazy town. It was packed, and with the layout of the place (one large dining space where everyone's pretty much eating together at a table of 100) it was also extremely loud. Made the decision to get my order to go. The woman taking my order was extremely rude, I mean extremely. Normally I would have just waled out but I was desperate for soup and thinking that at this time my only other option was going to be metallic taste laced from a can was making my pregnant self very sad. I was determined! I dealt with the rudeness and finally got my soup. I don't want to be overly dramatic and say that I should have chose the can but it wasn't very good...at all. Perhaps on a less busy day, maybe for a late breakfast, this place would have a lot of appeal in the charm category (as in decor, not staff attitudes). read more

I took my father for breakfast here recently. Wasn't sure what to expect, but it is close to where he lives. From the outside it doesn't look like much, and in fact looks like it could be horrible. But inside it was delightful. It has a lot of pictures from the Andy Griffith Show and is quite homey inside. The waitresses were all older women but super friendly and nice, and the breakfast was plentiful and reasonably priced. My father ordered the chopped steak and scrambled eggs, which came with pancakes (or toast)--the chopped steak was massive, and he was able to take more than half his food home to eat later. I ordered a country omelet which had ham and vegetables, hash browns, and pancakes. All was good and with a juice and coffee, the total was approximately $22. I will definitely visit here again. Went there with our family over the weekend for breakfast. The food was excellent but the coffee was the worst. There's not enough sugar or cream in the world to improve that coffee. We'll just know next time not to order it. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. read more

Pretty much our favorite breakfast place! One thing to note when ordering, they will give you an extra egg, so keep that in mind. I love the waitresses here, they always have a smile and a kind words. It's always busy, which indicates how good it is. Wish it was closer so we could eat there more often. read more

Have been to Mayberry Junction several times for breakfast recently. Live in a town close to here but have never been a patron here until a few weeks ago. I sure had been missing out! Breakfast is GREAT! Nothing greasy! How wonderful! Everything comes just a ordered! Prices FANTASTIC! Have been to Mayberry Junction for lunch several times. The soups are MARVELOUS! Homemade. None better anywhere! They have 2 choices everyday and the choices change everyday. Their french fries are WONDERFUL and not at all greasy. So far, I have tried 4 sandwiches: beeferella, BLT club, grilled cheese (not greasy) and a pork tenderloin. I would order each again with the exception of the pork tenderloin (I prefer mine cooked a little longer and a little crispy on the outside yet tender and juicy (which this was) on the inside. I would order again but ask to be cooked a little longer to be crispy on the outside. The coffee is delicious and never ending! The ice tea is brewed and not from a powder. This too is never ending. Have only been disappointed with one waitress. All the other waitresses and the owner are very accommodating and friendly. Looking forward to my next visit! If you haven't tried Mayberry Junction you are definitely in for a treat! Don't be like me and live close for years and not make the trip to go to Mayberry Junction in Manteno, IL and try it! I have been to this restaurant several times, and I do love their pan fried perch. But this last time, we had to wait a while for the check, and while we waited, the owner started chatting with us. Big mistake. He went on a rant about the property taxes in Illinois, which led to a complaint about the lottery winnings, but then he made a racist comment with the "N" word. Good, hearty, warm, fresh home cooking. Wait staff look like my grandma, treat my kids like my grandma and bring food almost as good as my grandma. No frills and no pretense. I lived in Manteno for 4 years and this diner was excellent, my husband and I would eat there every Sunday and let me just say, we now live in Midlothian and we would still drive out there for the food! Best soup and best breakfast sausage, but get the patty not the links. Anyone who says it's no good has absolutely no taste palate.... Their palate isn't a refined palate and probably prefers IHOP (YUCK) So if you're ever passing through, just stop in for a bite to eat. The wait staff is wonderful, the only downside is the hostess, not too pleasant but for the food its definitely worth it! This was 5 years or so ago, so if the owner's have changed hands, it might be a different story but if not GO! The breakfast, lunch and dinner are fabulous, just be sure if you get the dinner, to get the meatloaf. It's like your own mother made the dinner! Stop in for a while, have a bite to eat and some coffee and you'll be home. read more

Stopped in Manteno on our way home from Woldhuis Greenhouse for a quick bite. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but it was clean and vintage Mayberry decorated inside. The hostess and server were friendly. The menu was classic diner fare...nothing fancy here. We both enjoyed the soup & patty melt selections. I must admit that both were served piping hot...a plus that we don't usually encounter at most restaurants where food sits under heat lamps till the server gets around to delivering it to the table. Wouldn't hesitate to stop again if we were in the neighborhood. read more

We ate at MJ a couple years ago when we were in the area. We were in KK yesterday, and on our way back north, we stopped for lunch. They have great chicken. We were seated - waitress asked if we would like something to drink - we said just water. While we looked at the menu, a woman (bit heavy, wearing light color top) walked by the table - asked if we needed drinks - we said just water. Woman said: "cheapskates" and she kept walking. Thank you for the insult!!! We don't drink coffee and are trying to stay away from the sugar in soda. You have great chicken, but next time we're in area, we will find somewhere else to eat. Nothing fancy from the outside, including the hostess who was smoking beside the front door. Asked for a booth, but since there were 4 open we got the table by the door instead. My grandson needed a highchair which seemed to frustrate & confuse our waitress. Although it was 1pm I ordered breakfast. The coffee pot she brought to the table barely had enough for 1 cup. I am a snob when it comes to coffee. She hands my daughter an ice tea from the top of the glass. "Know what you want" she said. My daughter ordered a sandwich but didn't want fries. "It comes with it" so I say can she get a salad? Crickets..I say it's ok if its extra & I don't think anyone ever asked that before. Food comes & after the 2nd bite of my omelet I see it, a hair. Ask for the check, God forbid I get a refill on the coffee. While my daughter tells the host about the hair she runs to the kitchen to scream @ the cook who screams @ her "charge her". I'm standing @ the tbl watching 2 waitress clean it & 1 says "don't forget your to go". I'm like its empty, I'm not taking it because there was a hair in the omelet. Crickets.
