Hardworking friendly owners that provide wonderful food at very reasonable prices make this place a diamond in the rough of Hammond Indiana. I find it fast and easy to order food that arrives promptly via the use of my food that one accesses the menu via one's camera after being focused on a QR Code on their dining tables. Likewise old school photo menus are available that one can read off of can be used to place one's order to a server as well. The place has expanded into the building next door to meet the needs of the demands of its very loyal customer base. If you're not one of their loyal customers, it's most likely because you haven't tried them yet. I would have posted a review of this place long ago but I've waited until now as I didn't want to wait for a table which was a common occurrence prior to them enlarging thier dining room. Thus the best kept secret can now be stated. "Asian Kitchen is the best at what they do!"

I also had the salt and pepper shrimp which to me was more like shrimp fajitas, but it was tasty and lastly, I also had the shrimp cake sandwich. It was nice to see my sushi being made fresh right in front of me, which added a level of confidence in the quality. That said, I did have a few concerns. The woman who took my order was visibly sick--her nose was running, and she kept wiping it with her hand before touching my car, which was definitely off-putting. Cleanliness and hygiene are so important, especially in food service. The sushi itself was good, though I wish the salmon had been seasoned a bit more to bring out its flavor. Also, the menu could really use descriptions of the sushi rolls, it was hard to tell what was in each one, which made ordering a bit confusing. Overall, it's a small spot that serves its purpose, but with a few improvements, it could be much better.

Now that we're beyond the pandemic, we order and pick up instead of having it delivered, and it's still the same tasty food as we first discovered in 2020. Our most recent order included General Tso's Chicken (still my husband's favorite, which he said this time was sweeter and not as spicy as when he's had it before), and Ham Egg Foo Yung (mine, and it was good, but I do wish there was a little more seasoning either in the patty or the gravy -- it was blander than I'm used to from other places). I called in the order at dinnertime on a Friday night, and it was ready in 15 minutes as promised. I call that a huge win! We're so lucky to have this place close to home.

Vietnamese Coffee was sweet, strong and very tasty. 10/10 Pork Soup Dumplings - you get 5 of them; sauce was more like vinegar; they were firm inside and a bit tasty, but nothing too great. 7/10 Kung Pao Chicken - I expected this to be spicy (there was a mark on the menu indicating that) but it was not. In fact, the chicken was "rubbery" which tells me it was frozen I'm sure and just thrown in a wok or pan for sautéing, the vegetables were red/green peppers and onions and a few chiles. There were no peanuts and it didn't really fill up the container, so it appears to be a smaller portion. It does come with a side of white rice. 6/10 Service - it was busy, there were a ton of TO GO orders, but you wait at the front counter for someone to acknowledge you and it took almost 15 minutes. Finally they almost told me there were "done with To Go orders for the night!" How is that possible? Where do all the TO GO orders come from? The inside seating area was pretty open too...it's not like they had a line to get in and sit at a table either. I ordered a bunch of different things so we could try a bit of everything, and overall it was really good. I got the sushi boat for two ($62.99), and I was impressed by how much food it was for the price. It's all chef's choice, the rolls we got in our order was a Godzilla roll and a California roll. It also doesn't mention it on DD, but it includes miso soup and salad for two as well, which was a nice bonus. The fish tasted fresh in everything we ordered. We also got more rolls. The super white tuna roll ($6.49) was exactly what you'd expect. The salmon tempura roll ($7.99) wasn't too heavy or oily. The golden pillows appetizer ($6.99) was one of my favorites. It's tofu skin stuffed with rice and and spicy tuna and topped with avocado. It's well balanced and I wish they came in a larger order. You get two pieces. My other favorite was the volcano roll ($15.99) which is fried white fish and cream cheese topped with spicy tuna. I also tried the sweet potato tempura roll ($5.99) which was way too crunchy for my preferences. I would have preferred it to be softer. That said, everything else was delicious, and I'd definitely order again. I'd just skip the sweet potato roll next time.
