Nice daily combo specials

10/30/21 - Asian Kitchen is a fairly new restaurant in my neighborhood. It's located in a strip mall on the east side of Cicero just north of Devon Ave. They have a nice selection of Chinese food & its conveniently located. That being said they are a mainly a carry out restaurant w/a couple of tiny tables. For us it's kind of conveniently located not too far from the house. We ordered 2 dishes the shrimp egg foo young & fish fillet. The shrimp egg foo young came w/large shrimps & was pretty good. The fish fillet was ok but nothing special. They also tossed in a couple of complimentary egg rolls w/the order.

There's a daily special - even on the weekend

It's difficult to write a review for me after only one visit, unless there was something incredibly noteworthy or if the experience warranted some type of heads up for the Yelp community. Nee how ma (Hello) Asian Kitchen Express, there was that distinct Cantonese taste that reminded me of the type of cooking that I grew up on and it triggered a lot of fond memories. Thank you for that, sincerely, Xie xie. It's certainly different from Sichuan or Fukien style, so this was awesome!! Not that those styles are any less or better. The shrimp egg foo young...it was light, fluffy and plump - with huge shrimps and a sauce that's similar to what you would have on a moco loco (Rainbows). If this quintessential dish is wrong, that's a deal breaker for me, so my meal was off to a good start!! The pad Thai with beef, shrimp and chicken - that was weird and it was a protein overload but it still tasted authentic in that, the cooking didn't deviate from how it should taste. I'll probably just stick to chicken, next time around. The Mongolian beef was loaded with beef and tasted very very good. A nice ratio between veggies and beef. Now the crab Rangoon was the biggest surprise for me, there were many and all were stuffed with cream cheese - a pure delight!! Finally, their lunch specials also apply on Saturdays and Sundays, so I will be back for sure.

They haven't changed the name on the building yet. It's where Go Go China exists.

As of a few weeks ago this storefront has changed hands yet again. The carryout continues to be a fast food Chinese carryout and unless you carefully looked into one of their darkened windows and saw the new signage, you would think you are buying food from the previous restaurant Go Go China. The inside of the carryout looks as if the old owner walked out leaving everything intact. Like their neon signage offering Thai food and sushi. However, the Asian Kitchen only offers a couple Thai dishes and no sushi. This new company hit the scene fast launching a website (with viewable menus) from the start. Although there isn't much description of entrees given. When I entered I was accompanied by one of their workers that had returned from picking up food for his lunch break. Guy came in with a bag of McDonald's, sat down and started to eat. (Management should consider the action. Employees taking up dining room space eating food from competitors.) The whole place was smelling like fast food. The smell marketing started to work in favor of Mcd's, because I thought about leaving and visiting a local grill by me. Instead, I weighed the options of fresh vs fast food and ended up staying. Put in an order for potstickers, shrimp fried rice and a special plate of three ingredient Mongolian. I added a special request of everything spicy. Food was ready in about 25 minutes. How was it? The shrimp fried rice had an ample serving of large shrimp pieces and the potstickers were super doughy with a forgettable filling inside. All in all it was an average tasting experience. For strip mall fast food Chinese they are priced like the average stand-alone, sit down restaurant. However I am not seeing or tasting the value of the spend. For those that are like.. eh, what does he know. For that thirty something dollar spend, my carryout bag was heavy with foods. You may enjoy that feature.

Large Ma Po Tofu

Got there Menu in the mail the other day & decided to give them a try. 4 Stars for not having Chinese Broccoli. I ordered 30 min prior to closing. But everything still came fresh. I ordered the Salt & Pepper Shrimp (which was well seasoned and not too salty), Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice (pretty good), Beef Broccoli (beef was good and broccoli was crunchy), Beef Chow Fun (good amount of meat & noodles). Almost forgot about the Ma Po Tofu with ground pork (really good tofu will definitely order this again). The Crab Ragoons & Egg Rolls i would not order again. But, overall, there food was pretty good.

Shrimp lo mein..this was AFTER I finished eating

Dai Yee's Asian Kitchen - Shrimp Broccoli, Beef Tofu (hot), Egg Fried Rice

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. Dai Yee's isn't just a restaurant; it's a Chicago institution in the making. I'd wait in line in a blizzard for those smelts. See you at midnight.

A lot to like about the food but not the interior. You may be able to get a table even though there's only a couple of these. Came across it while looking for Asian food. It's a lot better than it looks. There's not usually a crowd because there's only a few tables. Most people come in and get carryout. You can call ahead and skip the wait. It's about $9 for a Lunch Special. The one I got was the Pad See Ewe, basically noodles with a few vegetables. Choose an entree and then a side. I got the cucumber salad which was among the choices. There's also other entrees that are more meaty. Get some pretty authentic flavors. It's closed Mondays. There's quite a few things okay for vegans and vegetarians.

The service was very good but I'm sorry to say the food wasn't. We ordered 3 items to be shared. We had a soup & 2 dishes. All the dishes came wo/protein? You had the option of chicken, pork, tofu or vegetables. There was a $1.25 up charge for beef in the dish & a $2.75 charge for roasted duck. We noticed that there were very skimpy portions of meats in all the dishes that we ordered The first item Tom Yum shrimp soup. This was probably the best item we ordered. The soup itself was seasoned good but there were only 3 pieces of shrimp in the soup? We also ordered the grilled eggplant w/chicken (very limited chicken) & an abundance of eggplant, onions, peppers (both yellow & green) & Thai basil. This eggplant dish was just ok but nothing special. The other dish was the spicy basil w/beef ($1.25 upcharge). The beef was tough & needed to be tenderized. In Chinese cuisine, the "velveting" technique, involving marinating meat with an alkaline ingredient like baking soda or a mixture of cornstarch and egg whites helps to make the meat more tender. The seasoning on this dish tasted exactly like the other dish? Decent prices that won't break the bank. Overall the service was pretty good but the food lacked the flavors of Thai cuisine.

Second was the charcoal half chicken. The coconut rice was had a light coconut flavor which was good bc it didnt alter the taste of the chicken. I'd skip on the salad and minced beef noodles next time. The noodles were a lil too thick n chewy for me. Salad was nothings special, just eating large chunks of cabbage. The Sparrow Mallorc was also really good and refreshing, not overly sweet. The egg tarts had a creamy delicious custard and the dough was fluffy like a croissant, not crisp like pie. I prefer crisp but would still recommend. I also got the chai carrot cake which is really good. The chai spice compliments the sweetness well and walnut chunks add nice texture . I want to try all their desserts at Bird Bird Bakery bc the flavors are so unique and actually really good, unlike other bakeries that try to use interesting flavors but make it overly sweet. The staff were chill and kind. Pretty laid back, you have to get your own utensils and water. I do love that they have their own hot sauces. The brown one with tamarind was my favorite. Nice decos, not overly showy or fancy. Still family friendly n chill. The bench had nice comfy cushions.
