My family ordered from Great Beijing over the weekend. We had our usual of seafood noodle soup, family style tofu, and Mongolian beef. Everything was well prepared and delicious. The owner himself took our order was cordial and friendly. Our dishes were ready within 15 minutes. Although it was late afternoon when we arrived, there were plenty of dine-in customers in the restaurant. Today was a very bad experience. The food was ok. I ordered duck which was simple but at the same time fatty and not much flavor. I asked the waitress what would be a good side dish and she said she didn't know. I ordered mixed vegetables which did not complement the duck. Not very promising. And then the worst part was the wine. It tasted stale and acidy and from an old bottle. She fibbed and said she opened a new bottle, but I know my wine (Chardonay) it was stale. Not a new bottle. Coming to Chicago for a few days of American cuisine, we needed a change so we wanted Chinese food. So straight up, coming from Toronto, I am a Chinese food snob. This place does American Chinese right, yes the Chow Mien is not real Cantonese Chow Mein but the Lo Mein was very good. The execution of beef and broccoli (was fabulous), corn and egg drop soup was flavourful, sesame tofu was very tasty. We loved the dishes and were full and had a great meal. We grew up going to Great Beijing for lunch as well as order carry-out for dinners. We are usually fans of their Mongolian Beef, the Samsung Jjambbong, and the Kang Poong Shrimp - unfortunately, the recipes or the preparation of the dishes changed as it's clearly not the same. The Mongolian Beef is on the sweeter end, but sometimes, it can be super sweet (like candy sweet); the Samsung Jjambbong recently was super watered down and inedible; the Kang Poong Shrimp used to have this addicting sauce, and the shrimp were huge - now, it's the typical Americanized version where it's mostly veggies, not much shrimp, and a weird-tasting 'sauce'. Not sure if I would return when I'm in town again... Service has always been efficient. Great Beijing in Lincolnwood is a great alternative for Chinese-Korean fusion food. Ordered Jjajangmyun (black bean sauce with noodles) and Jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup). Both were good with plenty of meat in the sauce and soup. Not pictured but also ordered tangsuyuk or sweet and sour pork. The pork was overfried where it was crispy but felt hard. Overall, the food was good but not the best I had in the Chicago area. Plenty of parking, and they accept credit card. Service at the host is great but the server doesn't come around much once you have gotten your food. No refills on pickled radish or kimchi which was not ideal. 03/17/23 -I've been a semi regular customer @ Great Beijing. The food has never been what I would call outstanding, but it's close to home. It's decent but nothing I would go back for on a regular basis especially when there are so many other restaurants. Part of the thing that kept me coming back is their friendly service & very generous portion sizes. This being said I have always dined in but tonight I was exhausted & ordered carryout. I have never ordered carryout from Great Beijing. With this being the lent season my wife doesn't eat chicken or meat so I ordered 3 seafood dishes 1). Shrimp Fried rice (nothing special) 2). Shrimp in Garlic Sauce w/mixed vegetables 3) Ginger & Onion fish w/vegetables. I got home & opened the box the box was only half filled (WTF). (See the picture). I really didn't feel like going back but I should have. As it is I feel like they gave me a minuscule portion. When I called in & brought this to the owners attention he said it was because they put broccoli in it. There were only about 6 pieces of broccoli in this huge container. Came here for dinner to celebrate Father's day early. We made reservations for a Friday night at 7pm. They have a parking lot so that is nice. The host was super nice and friendly and welcomed everyone who came through their doors. The service was quick, and the food came out fast. We ordered the egg foo young, chicken wings, a beef dish, mixed veggie dish, and original flavor black bean noodles. They also have seafood and chicken black bean noodles, but I like the original. We also ordered crab ragoons, but it never came, so we canceled it. We were super full with everything that came out. The egg foo young was a bit sweet, but it was ok, everything else was delicious. If you are looking for a place for good black bean noodles, this place is the place to get it. They actually have chunks of meat, unlike other places where you barely get any meat and just a bunch of onions. The portion is big as well, and it is definitely shareable for 2 people. Missed the traditional things like tree fungus egg drop. Had the right amount of vinegar. The crab Rangoon had thick wrap w a little soft but not bad. Hunan beef was decent. Large portion size. Overall, everything was good. Definitely a childhood favorite eating with the family at the restaurant. They've been here for almost my entire existence (I'm a few years older) and they definitely deserve some props. Man behind the pick-up counter had hilarity. He was cracking jokes and making convo. This was an impulse to come here for dinner yesterday. The place is somewhat clean but comes across as a more cluttered interior. The tables are well spaced out and for larger groups, they have lazy Susan's so you can share your food accordingly. I wanted to order a variety of things as seen in the pic (not shown - egg rolls). I would say as a whole their food was good. The highlights were the wings and the Moo Goo Gai Pan. The wings were crispy and tasty while the Moo Goo was well cooked with fresh veggies. The big low light was their Kung Pao Beef as it was super salty. Not sure if it was bc of the peanuts or the sauce. To the long time Great Beijing restaurant Lincolnwood, yes, there are times, you are on the verge to needing of a complete personality makeover. by your employee wait staff servers. I have the younger waitress dictating sneakily to me. with black hair and glasses. I l have been liking to able at going into the establishment often for the flavored tasty egg flower soup. You are not going needing of informing me in your rude tone consistently time and time again on what time your 'kitchen is closing' for a sit down regular man. Not when it had been one hour in advance from when knowing that the doors close shut! . I know what time hours are. Do they really find this amusing? Such was the case just on the other weekend, even for a fluke stopping in. We returned from out of town also. Plopped to chill. Now, after some over 20+ years of loyalty as well even some dedication, the managers, they apparently have entrusted their same ole 'servers, which all they DO when is come up and say, " Oh early today?" , " Oh what do you like now, see they leave now real soon" within their accents ( when it is clearly one hour beforehand before doors closing) What I found , or never hear that the wait staff servers NEVER say to me or to anybody "hello, Happy holidays" or how is it going , as they would in other countries , like restaurant's from other ethnic cuisines or diner's are at doing so. I do not believe to being alone here, because of hearing some insight into 'service' on the floor over there by a couple members on through the grapevine within the past year. So even after 20 years of dedication to the pick up mainly at restaurant- or half an half, she never came around much- you ask for an extra thing like napkins. Any of you with this experience? The establishment has seem to be consistently wanting to come across for its servers as constantly pressed for time on the floor, a feeling always tired or else not wanting at checking on in , or maybe go to sleep. I have not gone here in over a decade. The interior still looks the same as I remember it. I did noticed that there are more Koreans eating there than before. I usually see more Chinese customers than Koreans. I also noticed that their menu is written in English, Chinese and Korean. That was something else that was not on there. They also serve Korean kimchi (freshly made) and radishes side dishes while you wait for your dishes. This was something I did not expect or had in the past. The waitress was very friendly. She recommended some of the entrees to us and also told us how they make the kimchi a little differently than other places. They didn't use Napa cabbage to make them, but used green cabbage. The flavor was actually pretty good. It was a little spicy but we all loved it so much that the waitress asked if we wanted another small plate of it. Of course, we said yes! We ordered a lot of food since it was a party of 5 adults and 2 children. The best one we always loved and cleared the plate on was the Mongolian Beef. That was always our favorite in the past when we go here so we decide to order that again. It was delicious! Even my 2 nephews ate so much of them too. We tried the Egg Foo Young since my sister and her husband likes to eat this dish. They wanted to try to see how this restaurant makes them to see if they like this one too. It was a little disappointing. The sauce they made was a little bland. We can't taste much of the flavors. As for the Jiajianmian, it was really dark, so we couldn't even see the meat and other ingredients in the sauce. I almost didn't notice much meat in there so I thought it was just the noodles and sauce, but I guess I just had to dig deeper into the bowl to scoop them out. It tasted fine, but I had better ones. We also ordered half a chicken. I forgot how we wanted it cooked, but when it came out, it was huge. We only ordered half a chicken but the whole plate was covered with chicken. For portion size, it was big, but we didn't like that it was overly stir fried, I guess to the point that it was so dry. We ordered a tofu and eggplant pot too and that was fine too. We got the black bean noodle (cha chiang mein), jjamppong (chao ma mein), mapo tofu, and gan pong shrimp. The service was prompt but the dishes were just alright. Nothing that really stood out. Mapo tofu was my favorite surprisingly. Black bean noodle was really salty. Jjamppong was not bad but also not great. No deep flavor. Gan pong shrimp had terrible batter. Not worth its value. Texture was no bueno. The batter was not crispy and too thick. So disappointing . The portions were nice and big but I wouldn't go out of my way to get food from here. read more

My bf orders take-out from here semi-regularly. We always get the mandarin gan pong chicken and sometimes the zha jiang mian and sweet and sour pork. It's a hit or miss on how crispy the fried chicken is but it is still pretty good. We dined in yesterday (Sunday around 1:30) and it was PACKED. There was no parking spots left. Today, we got the fried chicken (12 pieces) and spicy seafood noodle soup. The soup was not really spicy. The noodles were super long, pretty much twice the usual length. There wasn't much seafood, maybe 2-3 shrimps, 4 bay scallops, imitation crab meat, few strands of pork, and one mussel. There was definitely more noodle than anything. Service was alright.
