I can't say enough good things about China star. They are always prompt. Their food is always delicious and they continue to deliver time and time again. This is the first Christmas. They were not open after 23 years straight. Good for them to finally get some rest and enjoy the holiday season. They will be open though for New Year's so people get your orders placed. read more

China Star - three containers of food sitting on a counter - Chinese Near Me - Niles, Illinois

We have ordered here before, and food was OK. Yesterday we ordered food at 7:15 and the food was to be ready at 8pm. I showed up at 10 minutes to 8pm and the restaurant was closed. I walk around to back door as I could see people still inside. They rudely handed me food as if I was bothering them for asking for the food I ordered. I get home 3 minutes later and discover that the rice was burnt and the Orange chicken was ICE COLD. I called owner very next morning and he was rude and dismissive. Offered no remedy and now we will never utilize this restaurant EVER again!!!! I'd give them - 5 Stars if I could!! read more

Beware! if you ask them to put your sauce on the side they will do it but they will charge you a $1 for the sauce that they usually put on it to begin with doesn't make sense at all. read more

I've tried all the Chinese places around Arlington Heights and Des Plaines, Mount Prospect. And this is the only place I will order from from now on I will drive outta my way to get food from here it's so delicious read more

I really have had it purchasing food from here. When we called, what she quoted me was $3 MORE than the menu price! I called her back and asked her why. I got, "at this time we are charging dollar more per item." WHAT?!?!? I told her to keep it and she actually called me back to NEGOTIATE the food price. I calculated the items and 10.25% Niles tax. I TOLD her what I was going to pay. She accepted. BEWARE! The are also rounding up the state tax MORE than 10.25%. There is nowhere in the menu that says that. I contacted the Village of Niles about it. They were supposed to look into it. I don't like to pay more than the price on the menu. Do you? read more

Service and food mediocre. Ambiance not good. No tea no pop no water half gallon of soy soyce in very little broccoli and beef.

Didn't like having to wear a face mask to enter the facility to pick up my order. Face mask requirement has ended. From now on, I'll go where people don't dictate what I have to wear. read more

Best Crab Rangoon anywhere. Large-size entrées leave significant leftovers. Healthy Menu item with black mushrooms, and garlic beef are favs. Veggie fried rice is loaded with broccoli, green pepper, & peapods. Fast delivery, online ordering. We order from here a couple of times/month, when cooking just isn't an option; never had a bad item. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, sadly. read more

Ordered from here and got super sick for two straight days!! Throwing up!! It was the only thing I ate that day so I know it was from this food. I called to complain and let them be aware of what happened and they did not seem to care and said " it must be something wrong with your body.. not our food" . Not only was I sick from this food but my Boyfriend was projectile vomiting as well. So I highly doubt it was my "body" and not their food. Horrible service and I will never eat here again nor will I ever recommend this restaurant. Think before you order from here! read more

I've ordered from here for years. Always good food and fairly quick deliveries. The Beef Chow Fun is excellent.

BEST Crab Rangoon I've ever had in my life, thus far! In our experience, Chinese delivery is totally hit or miss. This location was neither one. Delivery was fast and even the "small" portions are very big. The sesame chicken left much to be desired. The rice was great. My husband enjoyed the Mongolian Beef. And about those Crab Rangoons...it could be the pregnancy...or these are the very best! We will be back and try other items, but for now, we are fans. read more

The best chines food good people they been doing the same food foot long time . Carry out . It is not eating in

This place is what it is. A small carry out joint for Americanized Chinese food. It's not bad and it's not amazing. It's just a turd maker. In all honesty, the food is ok. Portions are large and cheap. Just don't expect 5 star food and you'll be fine. Their crab rangoons are pretty good though. read more

I worked there for 2months as a delivery driver. They barely passed their city inspection. The owners do not like to invest into improving the kitchen restaurant they were forced to buy new containers to store rice etc. their garbage area in the back is disgusting they throw garage one the side of the containers. And they do not filter their water for rice making or wash their utensils. It's a miracle they wash their hands. This places kitchen is disgusting they have cockroaches and rats. read more

I have been going here for the past 12 years and they have always done amazing with their food. Literally just placed an order right now. I drive 20 minutes to go pick this up and don't go anywhere else. Orange chicken, chicken fried rice, and egg drop soup *chefs kiss* read more

The go to place for drunk delivery in Niles, bar none, when pizza isn't your thing. Fantastic noodles and fried shrimp.

YUCK, ive ordered from this place a few times because of people at work, but no longer. this place is filthy and unwelcoming. the people are not friendly. the food has msgs up the wazoo and is definitely not quality products. the last draw was when we ordered like $50 worth of food and it came with a roach on it. we were completely disgusted and immediately called them to take the food back. I personally have boycotted the place and will never return. you can go at your own accord, but not recommended. read more

China Star - Chinese Near Me - Niles, Illinois

This has to be the WORST Chinese food it's ever been my misfortune to encounter! The egg drop soup looked and tasted like colored water with stuff floating in it. The chicken wings smelled foul (no pun intended), the eggroll was tasteless, and after biting into a baby corn it crumbled like stale bread in my mouth. Their "Happy Family" dish should be called "Dysfunctional Family" as it was a mixture of things that would go well if all were fresh and properly cooked, but the combination of undercooked and overcooked items, with some being fresh, and others way past their shelf life was a complete disaster. I took two bites and threw the rest away, feeling quite queasy. I had to take some maalox to settle my stomach. This place has been here for years, but I suspect the earlier years were better ones. This was the first time I'd ordered from here, and DEFINITELY THE LAST! I've had better Chinese food that sat out all day on a buffet. There are plenty of other places in the area for Chinese food. Do yourself a favor and seek them out. read more

I don't usually like chinese food because i eat it at home all the time but I love this place's crab rangoon and orange chicken. Apparently the manager/head chef has a special sauce he makes every day for the orange chicken. He won't tell me the secret! The lady, called May? Mei? whatever her name is, is very nice! She always tries to talk to you, "How was your day?" such and such. Always giving me a smile when I walk in. She is also very reasonable. If i don't like mushrooms and want more carrots instead, she says it's perfectly fine. Their lunch specials are only 4.95 and the portions are pretty big. They do not have a dining area but they have an area where there is a table, leather couches, and a TV for your enjoyment. It's like eating out, but in your own living room... A nice family vibe they have going on in there. read more

Although I can't recommend this place very highly, I have to give it credit for this. Best crab rangoons I've had (aside from Lulu's crab and shrimp wontons in Evanston. But those aren't called rangoons. So ha.) Crab rangoons from here are creamy through and through. Completely delicious. When i used to work in the area, These would suffice as a meal for me. Tip: Mix sweet and sour sauce with a little bit of hot sauce. Otherwise, this place is mediocre. I've tried various things on the menu. Either too salty or too bland. Overpriced for the healthier items too. It's definitely not a place I'd necessarily go out of my way for. Not a place for eat-in. Definitely carry out only. Again. My one and only recommendation for this place is the crab rangoons. If you're a fan of em, gotta try them here. Not small and stingy. Great size, and great amount of filling. You can even taste a hint of celery. read more

We've been ordering from China Star for years but we've just had it with the service. Ordered tonight and was told 30-40 mins. Get there and have to wait for them to even talk to me. She looks up my number and says "pay me later". Then proceeds to spend 5 minutes taking new orders on the phone even though my food should be ready and waiting. Then another customer comes in behind me and she takes his money but no food. WTH right ? Then she proceeds to just walk away and make me wait another 10 minutes. Whereupon I left. Went next door to Boobys, got a great meal and in 15 mins was home eating. Been a while since I've been in this restaurant and it's really looking shabby. Reading other reviews here very disappointing. I'm never going back. Really stupid on their behalf. We've probably spent a few thousand on them over the years. Rather spend that where they actually care. read more

We like this place for carry out. I guess you could eat there at one of the 3-4 window seats, but that would just be weird. Like inviting yourself in to someone's living room to eat, while watching their TV. Yes it does have that family room vibe to it. Which is actually cool. The spicier sweet dishes seem to be their forte. Mongolian Beef, General Tso, Orange Chicken. The lo miens, fried rice and regular brown sauce fare, not so much. But then again why would you want to eat that bland stuff anyway? Live a little! read more

I worked at a company in Glenview that would offer take-out food for their employees, of which they ordered from China Star once a week. Somehow, they were one of the most popular take-outs. How, I don't know. As far as Chinese food goes, CS would be classified as a greasy spoon. I can't say that the food was anything that excited my taste buds. The egg and shrimp rolls were...well...once you get past its dark brown, deep fried exoskeleton, I discovered flavors that were a bit...blandish. The fried rice is one of the dishes that lends to the "greasy spoon" designation. I couldn't even finish the Lo Mein. The sauce was below description. Don't get me wrong, CS is not the worst place to go for Chinese. Not at all. If you need a greasy meal to smother a liquor-laden belly, they'd fit the bill wonderfully (but I'm not sure they are open that late.) I'm not saying my tastes are highly refined, but, dude, if it was down to my left arm or China Star, I think the I'd truly miss my left arm. The second star is for fast delivery, monstrous portions and cheap prices. read more

Interior: The place is very small and run-down from when you come in. There is only a few seats by the window, so they probably mainly do take-out or delivery. The place is not air-conditioned and is a bit dirty. Oreo Secret Thai rolled ice cream: Decent. It had many added cookies and Pocky. You get to watch her make it, which was also a plus. Lemon Chicken: The sauce was packaged separately to keep the fried chicken from getting soggy, which was smart. The chicken and sauce itself though were not that appetizing. I ordered it because it was a "chef specialty," but I wouldn't order it again. The chicken was a bit bland and the sauce wasn't very good. read more

This place was Terrible we said delivery and an hour and a half later we call to make sure our food is coming and they say we have to pick it up. We did not they delivered it like we said to and we got the wrong food. we called back and wanted our money back the food was also terrible. we went back to get our money back after calling to say we are coming to get our money back he said okay. We went back and then he checked our food and was very rude about there being a missing egg roll. terrible service he also not to mention yelled at me. read more

Ordered xl shrimp/beef fried rice $14.00 and basically it was just fried rice, i know things are hard out there in the restaurant but man how do you run a business like that. I really don't mind paying but give me what i paid for, very inconsistent don't know if they are new owners. read more

I know people that drive over 30 minutes to get food here. I'm so lucky to live a few blocks away. Definitely underrated. Food is Awesome!

They are terrible. I ordered food to be delivered not even 10 minutes from the restaurant. I was told it would be 45 minutes to an hour to receive the food. I called the restaurant after the hour had past and was told it would be there soon because the driver left 15 minutes prior to me calling. So by now over an hour and 30 minutes have gone by when I received my food. The food was luke warm and when I called to complain I was told that the food was hot because they have warmers in the car and there was nothing she could do. Then I was told to not eat the food and wait until another deliver person comes by to check the food. Worst customer service ever and I'm not even 10 minutes from the store read more

Pending review Stay away from this place! We ordered the chop suey dinner and the Generals chicken dinner, both including an egg roll and chicken fried rice. First, we were told that delivery was an hour out. An hour and a half (90 minutes) later the driver finally shows up. I open the shopping bag and the egg rolls are stone cold. Chop suey was ok, nothing to write home about but the chicken dish was like a sweet-sour dish, with no spicy or heat at all. I called to let them know and since it was now later, I asked for a credit and got a major argument from the owner. Finally, he agrees to issue the credit for the dish BUT only if he gets it back! Fine, send your driver to pick it up. Waiting to see if he comes back and has the credit receipt. read more

Honest Opinion: I am a Chinese man who takes pride in eating authentic Chinese foods. I have been to many restaurants where the food doesn't taste like my grandmother's cooking but this restaurant convinced me to become a loyal fan of the American style cuisine. The Chinese food here is AMAZING. On days when my wife is off or doesn't feel like cooking we order delivery. It arrives plus or minus ten minutes of the promised time which is no big deal because the food comes hot to us and we live twenty minutes away. My favorites here are the stuffed crab rangoon (which is generous with the cream cheese), the Mongolian beef (my favorite), shrimp fried rice, chicken chow mein, and the egg rolls. All of the portions are large (even the "small ones") and items are cheap compared to the other places I've been to. I look forward to eating from this place every Saturday night. I don't know why people review it so low. I love this place. I don't know why I haven't found it earlier in it's 18 years of existence. (Oh yeah, the fried chicken wings are AWESOME) read more

Fried rice anything, tasteless. Chicken teriyaki not to bad, beef is better. Would not order from here again. Food not at all tastey, I had to add garlic, table onions and soy sauce to get any favor in the two different fried rices we ordered. read more
