I've come here a couple of times and it was always good. My favorite is the fried chicken and the chicken fried rice. Service is always quick. Usually on the weekends its more busier. Waiters are very attentive.

After finding ourselves disappointed that Great Beijing was closed for the holiday, with Yelp's assistance we found ourselves here. One automatic star off for the fish tank, and I will not return here solely due to that. My husband ordered Scallion Pancake as an appetizer, and after about 20 minutes he was told they were not available. My eggplant was terrible. It had more onion and green onion in it than actual eggplant, and the eggplant was all mush. Pales in comparison to the eggplant from Great Beijing. My husband found his shrimp with lobster sauce mediocre. Neither of us would return.

I've been eating here for over 40 years. While the faces may be different the food and the decor hasn't changed at all. As far as I'm concerned they are the best Chinese restaurant still open in the Chicago area. The service is always friendly and efficient whether it was Louie 40 years ago or the old guys there today. As always the Mongolian beef is my go to entree. The won ton soup is a must and the egg rolls are classic Chicago with baby shrimp, bbq pork and that hint of peanut butter in a crispy fried won ton wrapper. If you order the lunch special there's way more food than you can eat. If there are two of you and you both want the same thing I'd probably just order off the menu and get the beef, soup and egg rolls. As well as a pork fried rice if steamed rice isn't your thing. The fried shrimp were ok but not as good as I remember. Sadly if I get there once every couple years now that's a lot.

Visited inside for the first time in 20 years. The service was very good. The staff were friendly with my children and they seated us as close to the fish tank as possible. The kids enjoyed the fish and their food. We ordered potstickers, scallion pancakes, chicken corn soup, chow mein, and orange chicken. That was plenty of food for 4 of us and we had leftovers. The soup and scallion pancakes were my least favorite and I would not order those again. The potstickers are good. The orange chicken and noodles were standard. Not bad.

Went there on a Friday night. Everyone was friendly food came out fast. We got orange chicken, chow mein, chicken corn soup and pot stickers. Bathroom was clean. I was satisfied.

I forgot to take pictures of most of the food because it was that good! Everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor -- you can really taste the quality and care in every dish. The portions were generous, and the service was friendly and quick. I did manage to snap a picture of the sesame balls for dessert -- perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and chewy inside, and not overly sweet. The best way to end an amazing meal. Highly recommend China Chef if you're craving delicious, authentic Chinese food that hits the spot every time!

We used to live in nearby Skokie 40 years ago and dropped in here once.  Well, China Chef is still at it, and kudos to them for that!  They do have new ownership as of about 6 months ago, and that would be Jennie Moy, also the restaurant manager, and her husband.   Anyway, we had a big Saturday night dinner for an extended family party of 11.  We ordered their Dinner Special #2 set menu (see photos for itemization of the 11 offerings), $198.98, and advertised for 10-12 people.  And it was all plentiful and delicious and we still had plenty of leftovers.  I'll go with 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for our fun and delicious outing.   They have a huge Cantonese style menu but also a page full of Filipino dishes.  The dishes can range from Americanized to authentic Cantonese and somewhere in between (but mostly close to authentic) depending on what you order.  The value here is very good, and pretty close to Chinatown value except you're still in the suburbs with no commute.  The restaurant is quite large with two dining sections as well as a big party room.  When we left, the party room was totally filled for some sort of celebration dinner for maybe 80 people.  They also have a fairly big parking lot that was totally filled.  The whole restaurant was vibrant and bustling and I didn't realize it was that locally popular actually.  Anyway, the festive atmosphere made for a fun dinner outing and that was worth a partial star.  They also appeared to be doing a huge amount of carryout business. I liked all the dishes but my favorites tonight were the seafood soup, the whole steamed fish, Mongolian beef, fish with lobster sauce, crispy fish fillet, and the combination fried rice.  Overall, big thumbs up, and we plan to be back sometime.

We ordered the dinner for 5-7. Everything that was included was good; chicken, pancit, mongolian beef, and the soup. The lumpia shanghai was the only disappointment. Definitely plenty of food for our family of 5. I would have preferred to have the fried rice to come out before the main meats but it showed up last so we ended up having a lot of that left over. I havent been here for years but may consider coming back sooner than later since service was pretty good.

There's is absolutely Nothing wrong with China chef. The food is fine and prices are fair. But and this But is just with me - I use to go here back in the early 80s Before they move to this location when they were on Dempster St with Art Fong ( see previous review) Now Art is long gone, the menu is the same but the dishes are not. The sweet and sour pork is heavily breaded and the meat is lean. It used to have some fat/marbling that made it extra tasty. The pata tim was drowning in sauce as opposed to be complemented by it. Antony Bourdain said consistency is the key to restaurants. Nothing last forever as they say.

Ordering was a breeze and the guys were always open to a conversation or giving suggestions. The restaurant was clean and the meal was always tasty. Just a note but the further away you move from any major city the fewer and harder it is to find great Asian food. The suburb is lucky to have them. The pandemic brought new staffing. Some were pleasant with customers though one lady, a supervisor had the wrong ideas of what customer service and proper etiquette is. Just the basics of my final visit. I took my family for lunch. We ordered lunch specials and a couple extra must-try plates. Two specials hit the table and the third was left waiting for her meal. Unbeknownst to us in the moment, her food was handed to a single patron there for his lunch. The place was filling up with a lunch rush but not so many that had complicated orders. Many were ordering similar lunch specials. Kung pao lunch special was popular. When her order finally arrived the supervisor realized she had given the wrong plate to the customer sitting some tables behind us. Mind you ten minutes had already passed. She quickly went over to him and asked what he had ordered. She then took the plate he was eating from and handed him the fresh plate. He was still holding a half eaten egg roll in his hand. Then she brought the quarter eaten plate and placed it in front of my mother. Before she could leave I stopped her and asked her what she was doing. She simply stated that was her lunch order. I told her she handed my mother someone else's food that they were eating and I watched the whole thing. Why didn't you take that to the back and make a completely new plate of food?! I paid the bill and got the F**k out. That's gross. Also, you gave the other patron new food but cannot do the same for our table?? This place is dead to me. If she could do that, it beckons the question of what else is happening behind the scenes.
