Dumpling soup and beef jelly noodles

First time trying this place. It's very warm, cozy and family owned. The place is clean and the food is really good. Not under cooked or over cooked. It also has a great seasoning taste to the food. I love seeking local shops. The owner was very kind to let us which dishes were popular. I read a couple comments saying there was a language barrier between the customer and owner but I don't think there is. My husband I understood what the owner said and explained. I really encourage you to try this place if you love to explore like we do.

What's their hours of operation?

I was very disappointed that they were closed despite the sign on their door says it's open until 9.30pm. Yelp says 8.30 pm but Google says 8 pm. So which of these 3 is correct? I arrived at 7.20pm on Thursday and 7 pm on Friday, they were closed! No one answers their phone. At this point, I don't know if this business actually exists in the location shown.

Food was good comfort food! A small and intimate family owned restaurant that is closed on Tuesdays. Food was good, satisfying, with fast, friendly dinner service. A hidden location that most may mistaken for Mongolian stir fry where you would gather food by yourself to let the chef cook- this is NOT that. A different assortment of Mongolian food that everyone has got to try. Dumpling soup was good cause temperature outside was below freezing and the warm soup hit the spot. Street parking only, and about five tables inside. The menu shown is to its entirety so view this menu, check out the business hours and plan you dinning experience here.

Had gone shopping out in the suburbs on a Saturday with my partner and were looking for dinner options. Decided on this location based off of reviews, location, and really that we wanted some comfort home-y food (soup) for a rainy day. The lady who sat us was extremely friendly and even gave us free tea and these little cubed breaded delicacies. We ended up ordering their Buuz (dumplings) which were DELICIOUS & our favorite of them all. We split the Honinii Havirgatai Shol (Lamb Rib soup) & Nariin Mahan Huurga (Thin Sliced Beef Stir Fry). Both were really good as well. Overall had an amazing dinner here with some friendly service. I will note that the lady's young son was roaming around the restaurant being super loud and yelling which wasn't the most pleasant. Probably the only negative thing we encountered honestly.

Here's the instructions on how to eat there. First, I would call 1-2 days prior to coming. Just let them know you plan on coming with x amount of people at this specific time. They will take note. Next, call on the day of. I just called them an hour after they opened and confirmed that my group of x amount of people will arrive at this time. They said they will see me then. Simple. When you arrive, they have free street parking in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is not huge, they do have some limited seating if it does get busy. The restaurant is family owned. The mom was serving us. I believe she helps with her husband and daughter in the back. All of the food is made fresh. It's like eating at someone's house with a nice home cooked meal. Portion sizes were generous. Prices are cheap for what you receive. This is my second time eating Mongolian food. First was at Arvin in Niles. You also get complimentary milk tea. Mongolian milk tea is more salty than ones in your typical Asian restaurant. Here is that we ordered: -khuushuur (beef pastry) 5 - kind of like an empanada with beef inside. It's juicy too so be careful when taking the first bite. It's very hot. -glass noodle stir fry 5 - kind of like japchae. Noodles are thin with a variety of ingredients. -dumpling soup 5 - heart soup. There is some bread that you can use to dip. As shown in the picture, a generous amount of dumplings, meat, and veggies. -tsuivan (noodles stir fry) 5 - this is another must when ordering Mongolian food here. Noodles are on the thicker side with slight chew. Well balanced with meat and veggies. -lamb rib soup 5 - one of the favorites. The meat is perfectly cooked. Noodles were chewy but not too much. Good soup for any occasion. -buuz (dumplings) 5 - skin is thicker. Meat inside is succulent and not dry. Very flavorful. This and the khuushuur are musts when coming here.

It's rare to find a Mongolian restaurant and thus one does it well and is very authentic! Their fried dumplings with beef and onion filling is sooo good. My boyfriend likes the steamed one better, they are the same filling just different outside. The lamb soup has a very deep and rich lamb flavor that is very strong if you love lamb. Some of their popular items like one of the stir fry noodles do sell out quickly so I'd come early, I still haven't had a chance to try it yet because it's always sold out already!

Great hospitality and good home cooked food. Great portion sizes good value, will return. You know that great feeling you get when you feel welcomed to a meal at a friendly auntie's home? That's how I felt with this experience was. The owner is so gracious and kind. We felt loved and welcomed. She walked us through the menu and helped us select a few key dishes that stand out for us first timers. (Not a first timer anymore and I'll be back for sure!). She served us hot steamy milk tea - Mongolian style which is a tad saltier side (goes well with cold weather and the food we had). The beef pastry (6 large dumplings) was excellent, freshly hand-made that day (they were making more as we were eating). The beef patty inside is moist, flavored with onion and the shell was nicely fried, good texture, not too greasy. Soup came out next which we shared amongst our table. It was definitely hot and steamy, a hint of dill, roasted potatoes meatballs. Heart warming for sure and the slippery glass noodles were fun to slurp. Flatbread came out and it was light and fluffy, a bit of crunch went really well with the soup. The dumplings came out and I was amazed at the plumpness and the serving size. Very happy, served with a dipping sauce on the side which brought out the beefy flavors of the dumpling. Really enjoyed our time there. It's a small shop, and it's like the owners family inviting you over for a meal cooked with love and care. I'll be back to try the noodle dish I saw another table have. Three tables were active while we were there on a rainy Friday lunch, and seems like the other table ordered exactly the same as we did. Parking on the street non-metered.

Mongolian Beef

Authentic Mongolian food at its best. If you're tired of the same old takeout, you need to visit Mazalae. I specifically asked for my Mongolian Beef to be prepared a certain way, and they made it exactly how I wanted! It was so fresh, high-quality, and flavorful. The owner and her family are incredibly welcoming and attentive to every detail. The portions are generous, and the atmosphere is perfect for a family dinner. Highly recommend supporting this local gem!

The restaurant has that old-school, traditional Chinese restaurant vibe. It was pretty busy when we went, with a constant flow of both dine-in and takeout orders, which I took as a good sign! We ordered the tangsuyuk, jjajangmyun, and jjambbong, and everything was amazing. Honestly, this is probably the closest I've gotten to authentic Korean-Chinese food in the Chicago area. The tangsuyuk was delicious, and both noodle dishes really hit the spot. Exactly what I was craving! Service is pretty much what you'd expect from a busy, traditional Asian restaurant. It might not be the fastest or most attentive, but you can tell everyone is working hard to get food out. Portions were more than generous, and the prices were some of the best I've seen around Chicago, especially for the amount of food you get. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're craving some good Korean-Chinese food. I'll absolutely be back!

She knows her regulars and has been around, she speaks Chinese, English, Korean, and Spanish. I came a couple weeks ago and saw her giving kids some treat bags. She really is a kind person that wants to show her love and care in the food she serves. And I'm sure, I'm not the only one who feels this. This place is SO BUSY around dinner literally all the time. They have no choice but to turn off their phones because there's already a lot of people coming in to eat and to order in person. I'm pretty sure they're the reason why it's hard to find parking along Lawrence, which it is what it is when a great food spot is well known outside of the local community. This place is simply that great. I've eaten here and ordered in person and over the phone. No matter what, the quality of food remains great. The owner/manager is always nice. Overall, I hope this corner restaurant never changes because there's no need to change. To the owner/manager, you are making a positive impact on those that walk through your restaurant doors by simply being a kind human and treating everyone with respect. Their Peking fried rice and Mongolian beef are my go to! Cash only

The side of pan fried noodles was a dollar less than the chow mein dinner discuss. The owner charged $9 for a side of just pan fried noodle with it. The familiar neon of the signs weren't on. I was the only customer for take out and the restaurant was empty. It was a pretty large dining room with a dozen round empty tables, and a sterile environment. My food was waiting for me on one of the front tables. This would be good for a loud group, with no worry of bothering others. I opened the whole order. Overall, they cut corners and it reflects in the food. The main packaging they use is noticeably smaller than other Ameri-Chinese take out places around. The chicken chow mein dinner was a small portion. Compared to the normal portion elsewhere, this didn't cover the bottom of the box. They forgot the fried rice that comes with the dinner. The pot stickers were rubbery and would've benefited from more time on the sear. The filling was delicious though. Savory and flavorful. The top to the pot stickers' sauce melted and spilled in the box. Insult to injury(figuratively). Maybe I caught them on an off day? Maybe they are in need of support? Regardless, please consider my experience.

We're so glad we did! I had originally planned to have pho, but after I looked at the menu I decided that the fried noodle dishes were more what I wanted this time. We'll come back for the Pho another time. We ordered an appetizer and two entrées, although we had to remind the server about the appetizer after the entrées came. This was quickly rectified. The menu had a nice variety of both Vietnamese and Chinese dishes, as well as sushi. Our order started with the Gyoza (six pan-fried dumplings), which were fresh, hot, and very good once they came (after the entrees). The sauce with them was a little different than a traditional sweet-and-sour, but very tasty. We both had Crispy Egg Noodles dishes, mine with beef and vegetables, and my husband's with the chicken, shrimp, beef, & squid combination. We were surprised to find out that "crispy egg noodles" were the same as what we know as Chow Mein Noodles, like you can buy in a can at the grocery store. We were expecting fresh noodles fried crispy. But once the sauce soaked into them they softened and were fine. Next time, though, I think I'll try one of the soft egg noodle dishes instead. The real star of the entree was the meat, vegetable and sauce stir-fry that topped the noodles. The beef was tender, plentiful, and flavorful, and the types of vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, sprouts, celery, and carrots) were exactly what I like in a dish like this. The soy-based sauce was flavorful without being too strong or salty. Truly, other than the surprise with the noodles, everything was perfect. The portions were huge, so we each brought half home to eat later. They sell Japanese bottled sodas, but we opted instead for cans of Coke and Diet Coke respectively. Maybe next time I'll try the Japanese grape soda. Service was pleasant and attentive, and our food arrived quickly. The inside seating area is large, clean, and comfortable, and the restroom was also roomy and clean. We enjoyed it, and will definitely go back.

I love the soy and garlic glaze on the wings and drums and it is crackly and crunchy too! And not only that, but the restaurant was ghostly chilly too. Very cold inside, to the point that we switched tables to get to avoid the draft from the vent and commented to the employee about it. The tonkatsu entree is mediocre. The batter on the pork was crispy, but bland. It was $16.99, as was the small order of boneless wings, which come with a tiny side of coleslaw or pickled radish. A side of plain fries is $5.99. On our last pick up order from here too, the chicken strips were soggy and barely had any crunch to it.
