Now for the update. For years I considered this modest restaurant a highlight. The staff was cool and efficient. Ordering was a breeze and the guys were always open to a conversation or giving suggestions. The restaurant was clean and the meal was always tasty. Just a note but the further away you move from any major city the fewer and harder it is to find great Asian food. The suburb is lucky to have them. The pandemic brought new staffing. Some were pleasant with customers though one lady, a supervisor had the wrong ideas of what customer service and proper etiquette is. Just the basics of my final visit. I took my family for lunch. We ordered lunch specials and a couple extra must-try plates. Two specials hit the table and the third was left waiting for her meal. Unbeknownst to us in the moment, her food was handed to a single patron there for his lunch. The place was filling up with a lunch rush but not so many that had complicated orders. Many were ordering similar lunch specials. Kung pao lunch special was popular. When her order finally arrived the supervisor realized she had given the wrong plate to the customer sitting some tables behind us. Mind you ten minutes had already passed. She quickly went over to him and asked what he had ordered. She then took the plate he was eating from and handed him the fresh plate. He was still holding a half eaten egg roll in his hand. Then she brought the quarter eaten plate and placed it in front of my mother. Before she could leave I stopped her and asked her what she was doing. She simply stated that was her lunch order. I told her she handed my mother someone else's food that they were eating and I watched the whole thing. Why didn't you take that to the back and make a completely new plate of food?! I paid the bill and got the F**k out. That's gross. Also, you gave the other patron new food but cannot do the same for our table?? This place is dead to me. Best dishes in the northern suburbs! Nice little diner style interior, the front is clean and has a good amount of seating. The service was very attentive and so fast. This review about North Point Chopsticks is long overdue. As a strip mall restaurant, NPC has many tables for dine-in. When I arrived to pick up the order on a Monday evening around 6:30 pm, the restaurant was totally empty, but the staff were all busy preparing for takeout orders. Our takeout order included Pork and Chicken Dumplings (10 pieces), Tofu Egg Plant Hot Pot, Chow Mein with Chicken, Chow Fun with Beef (Cantonese style), and a Taro Freeze. The rice noodles (Chow Fun) were too wide, and the cut of beef was too big. Cantonese style beef should be bite-size. Taro Freeze was good and refreshing, but a little water-downed. The food was pretty decent, satisfactory, but nothing outstanding. I would say, 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. read more

This is like a Joy Yees--really extensive menu, but it has some really great HK style dishes. We ordered to go but have also eaten inside. Our order came out piping hot and was ready pretty quickly. What we got: Salted egg yolk pumpkin - This dish is battered and fried, then sautéed again in salted egg yolk. It's savory, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. So good! Our kids ate this up. Salted fish ground pork stone bowl - This is a pretty Cantonese thing I think that's hard to find anywhere. It's over rice, and I think you could stand to mix in more rice if it's too salty for your preference. But it's a flavor unlike anything else, and the only way I can describe it is pungent haha but in a really delicious way. If you like bold flavors, try it. This is pure nostalgia for me because it's something my grandmother used to make. Beef chow fun (gon tzow ngow haw) - Great flavor! This is a thick, chewy rice noodle and it had a great bite to it! I have been going to north point chopsticks for a long time, usually for take out but occasionally for dine in. I recently went and I am impressed with how consistently good the food is. We were seated quickly by the staff and our orders were taken promptly. The hot and sour soup was tangy and flavorful. The portion is large enough to share with a group. The crabs rangoons were delicious, crispy and creamy. The fried pork eggrolls were a little bit of a let down, they were a bit too oily for my taste. The main dishes were all spot on. The beef cubes with tomato rice is amazing...I ordered one at the restaurant and one to go. The beef cubes are so tender and rice is the perfect compliment. I think I could eat this everyday. We also had the spicy seafood tofu hotpot which was very good and had generous amounts of seafood. It is not overly spicy, just a small hint. They have Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese Korean staple foods, considering the taste I would like North Point made every dishes. The salted egg pumpkin was not too salty. They make the beef cubes here the best. It was also not too salty and the meat was tender. Lastly the beef chow fun was saucy but still crispy. It came with brown mushrooms (portobello?) which was a bit overpowering. Nevertheless it was still good. Next time I would order it without mushrooms. I'm newer in this area and can't land on any great Chinese food. This is the closet to it though. The noodle dishes and veggies are awesome. Sweet and sour chicken is my favorite but this just missed the mark. I've ordered it twice. Sauce is good with fair amount of pineapple and peppers but the actual pieces of chicken were not good. I recently tried out their Shrimp Fried Rice, which I was surprised at the large-sized juicy shrimp that it came with - the fried rice itself was not that great; it was more like steamed rice, rather than wok-fried. The beef thin, but tasted beefy. It was too large for one. I also ordered Pork and Chicken dumplings. Quite tasty with a sweet dipping sauce. I ordered hot sour soup. Low on-site pepper, and very low in vinegar. I didn't have a panty handy, so I couldn't doctor it up. I ordered sides of Chili Oil, and excellent hot sauce but it only made it bland. New Star Chinese in Elmwood Park is my Cantonese food standard. I'd recommend this place based on the food. More people with more variety is the easy to go. read more

North Point Chopsticks is tucked away in the same Plaza as Jewel. We came by for dinner on Sunday afternoon. As it is located in a plaza there were plenty of parking spots in the parking lot. We met up with some friends of whom arrived just moments before us. When we walked in there was only 1 other table at the restaurant. We sat down and menus were immediately placed in front of us. And a minute later the waiter comes by and asks us what we're ordering. With no smile, or asking if we're ready. So we asked to start with water and for a few moments as we had just set down. When he came back, we were ready to order drinks and appetizers. I ordered the durian fruit freeze with tapioca, and spring rolls. My drink came out with mango jelly instead, which they offered to remake after telling me it was what I ordered. But I told them it's fine because I didn't want them to have to throw out the drink and make another. So instead the older lady making drinks brought out a bowl of tapioca to offer should I want some. My husband had ordered a honeydew freeze which didn't come out until I mentioned it to our waiter when he said "you should have everything now". The drink came out moments later, which was great. For the spring rolls we ordered it with shrimp, and it was great! The vegetables were refreshing and it was not too hard or sticky. The sauce was more of just straight hoisin sauce rather than a peanut sauce but still great nonetheless. The waiter had come back to take our entree orders so quickly, I ordered the first thing I saw that I could want and it was the salt and pepper Japanese tofu. It was delicious! Reminds me of the joyyee ones but better. Despite the issue with service the food was delicious and I would love to try other items on the menu. This unassuming pan Asian restaurant in a strip mall is actually quite good! The menu can be almost overwhelming--it's almost as big as a Cheesecake Factory menu-- so we just looked at the pictures. Whatever Asian cuisine you are in the mood for, it's bound to be on the menu. Except sushi, I did not see sushi. We ordered way too much food (portions are generous) and thought the dishes were very tasty. We asked for a level of mild. Service was prompt. No sooner than we had placed our order, out came a plate of Vietnamese fried pork egg rolls. They were piping hot, super crispy and good. Almost immediately after came the Szechwan String Beans in Garlic Sauce, Sesame Chicken and Minced Pork with Japanese Tofu and Mushrooms. As our table became crowded with steaming fragrant dishes, we soon realized we had ordered with our eyes and not our stomachs. Mouths full, crunching on crisp and sweet fried chicken with sweet sesame sauce, we realized our grave error: we had forgotten there was one more dish -- Korean Chap Chae Noodles. Unfortunately by this time we were already more than full, so there was only a halfhearted cursory sampling: we would have to take the rest to-go. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal -- and are bound to repeat it -- four large to-go boxes are nestled safely in our fridge for another go round. Not that it will be a hardship! I was in the Glenview area looking for some good Asian food. There were pretty limited options in the area, but I liked the look of this menu. Now I should preface by saying that normally, a pan-Asian restaurant would have me running for the hills (we're all familiar with that well known pan-Asian chain that brings "joy" to all). The scallop and meat sauce stone bowl rice was delicious! The meat sauce is very reminiscent of what would accompany green beans. It is a large serving that can definitely serve two people. The scallops were steamed so they were nice and soft--I think searing them would probably give the dish more textural variation. As a minor drawback, the stone bowl wasn't hot enough to get the crispy rice at the bottom, but I never liked that much anyway. I didn't expect to enjoy a place that had the word "Chopsticks" in the title. But I would definitely like to try other things here in the future. read more

My husband and I met some friends at North Point Chopsticks. We had the Chap Chae, Lemon Grass Fried Chicken, Scallop Meat Stone Bowl, and the Sea Eel Fried Rice. The Chap Chae was my favorite. It was well seasoned and delicious. I was disappointed in the flavor in the other dishes. The fried rice was especially underflavored. Our order was ready 10 minutes early so we were glad we came early. There was one table of diners in a relatively nondescript dining room but lots of carry out orders. Our egg rolls were tasty but without the traditional Chinese fried outside. These were pretty greasy but had more meat than vegetables which was a pleasant surprise. They can only with a Chile sweet sauce and it added to the taste. Our potstickers were just ok and had a slightly gooey exterior. Our main courses included Mongolian beef which was much higher quality beef than most places offer. Nice flavor and sauce. Every now and then, I miss my Chinese food. The best thing is, that I have North Point within a shouting distance which has all I'm looking for. I ordered via phone and the pickup time was suppose to be about 25 mins. I arrive right on time and the food is ready. No complaints there for sure. Seems like around 5:30-6pm on a Saturday that it's quite busy with several orders readied and behind the counter. My favorite of the night was the scallop and meat sauce with lo mein. Very saucy and flavorful - it's good served on lomein or rice, any leftover sauce I kept for rice the next day. The Udon seafood had some good wok-hey and was a favorite of my kids. Fish fillet with vegetables was ok, thought the noodles were a tad too crispy - but hey, I asked for crispy noodles - why complain - wonderful with hot sauce added in. The food here is amazing! They have tasty dishes that I have seen nowhere else. The service is great--our food was placed on our table just minutes after ordering. The ambiance is basic tables and chairs, but there are Asian sauce on each table and the wrapped flatware bundle covers with chopsticks. We finished eating around 7:30 pm and were talking up a storm. The server let us know that they don't close until 9:00 pm so we could stay and talk. We ordered a lot of food and our server brought takeout containers and bags to put our leftovers in. Finally got to try North Point Chopsticks and it rivaled some of better restaurants in Chinatown as far as the taste and authenticity. It looks much smaller from the outside but there are few seating inside and it was clean and more modern appeal in comparison to other suburban Chinese takeout places. Scallops with meat sauce was really good with lots of Thai basil and crispy rice bits at the bottom. Good rice to meat ratio and level of saltiness was just right. Beef chow fun was good with crispy pan fried wide rice noodles but it was tad bit on the bland side. We also ordered Mongolian beef and according to my 11yo the Mongolian aficionado, he has it was the third best Mongolian beef he had in Chicago area. Hello, it's me again. Since the last time I reviewed, I have read through other reviews. I could not understand why they were getting anything other than 4+ stars. But from what I have read a lot of the complaints come from the staff's demeanor at check out or dine in experience. I have only dined in once and the staff was amazing, attentive, and welcoming. Due to our schedules, my fiancé and I haven't been able to dine in a lot recently, so we have been getting carry out. She is normally the one who picks it up and has never shared anything but a pleasant experience with the staff. However, this past Friday I was the one who picked it up and I could see how some of the other reviews are out there. They were particularly busy at the time and the cashier was short and quick with people which I could see it being interpreted as abrasive, but I for one can attest when you get into the zone your outward demeanor may not match your true personality. Now on to the food, we got our usual order, Crab Rangoon, Korean Beef Fried Rice with fried egg on top. As always it was phenomenal! No complaints at all. I look forward to returning for more soon in the near future. The food, honestly, makes up for anything that the staff may do through the stress of their job. I came here one a random drive back to down town Chicago and loved it!! They have a huge variety of options from all over Asia. Their menu has a bunch of pictures tj help you make a decision and have a visual idea. I had the eggplant hot pot with tofu. Everything was cooked extremely well. They even put all the sauce on the side for me with no issue. One of my fiends ordered the beef noodles and the other ordered the basic friend rice.
