I'm in love. Seriously, I'm in love. I have been looking for a place that offered dim sum and dumplings for a while now (ever since I experienced them at Din Tai Fung and Dough Zone in Seattle) and I can honestly say that Seriously Sanji is a great place. My wife told me there was a dumpling place in Northbrook and took me there for a late lunch the other day. I know that she's not a fan of dumplings, but "took one for the team" and brought me there. We just ordered basic beverages, her a water and I a Coke Zero. She then ordered Pad Thai and I ordered chicken soup dumplings and chicken sanji. The pad thai came out first and it was a huge portion. She barely put a dent into it and it became two additional meals later. She said it was different than other places she's had it and that it was good, but different. I noticed the chicken pieces were huge chunks and the sauce had a little kick to it and wasn't thick, but it was tasty. I first got the chicken soup dumplings. Man, they were good. They're larger than the ones I've had at Din Tai Fung and The Dough Zone, but they sure are delicious. And since I prefer not to drive into the city and spend over an hour on the road to get downtown, to go find some other dumpling/dim sum place; I'm happy there's a great place in the suburbs near me. They rival the other two mentioned previously. Their sauces are great, the dumplings are great. The sanji was delicious. Heck, that's in their darn name. All of it was good. And this is my go to place in the suburbs now. The place is a cute. As you enter the vestibule, there's a dumpling with a body welcoming you in. The place is just all black and red and you wait to be seated. There is a container with chopsticks on each table, but the napkin is wrapped around a fork (most places you have to ask for a fork, so this is a nice change). I could use a knife for the sanji as they are quite big, but it's not a problem eating them without. Our server was very nice and helpful. We went back to Serious Sanji after hearing most of our friends say it was good to give them a second chance. I'm sad to say I'm more disappointed this time around. The service was significantly better but the food was still not worth the hype. We got: Dan dan noodles: 2/5 it's okay. The noodles have good texture and flavor is fine. Spicy chicken: 1/5 it was not spicy at all. Lacked proper chilis and seasoning. Crab soup dumpling: 1/5 didn't have a good flavorful broth in the soup dumpling. Strawberry green tea with brown sugar boba: 2/5 the boba was crystal boba not tapioca for the brown sugar boba. I wish there was some kind of disclaimer or explanation because I expected it to be tapioca with brown sugar. Shu mai: 2/5 it was fine nothing to write home about compared to other shu mai's. Beef sanji: 3/5 I like the crispy bottom I think overall service was better but the food was very disappointing. I loved our experience at Serious Sanji! We were seated right away and the restaurant was super clean. Our server was attentive even though there was a bit of a language barrier. I'm a sucker for bubble tea so I loved all the options they had on the menu. It's great to go here with a few people so that you can order a few different things off the menu to try. We got chicken soup dumplings, which were pretty good but not the best I've had. We also had the pork sanji, green beans, bbq buns and the cutest little piggy buns which were amazing as a dessert. I'l go with 3.49 stars for our lunch visit to this newish suburban dumpling house.  The wife and I ordered 4 dishes, namely:  - beef sanji, $10.95 - pork and chives steamed dumplings, $10.75 - shrimp rice rolls, $8.95 - pork soup dumplings, $11.95 They were all in ok range for the price, and I would say it's a slightly pricey menu, but that's fair as it is a new, airy, and modern restaurant in a newish suburban strip mall.  My favorite was the pan fried beef sanji actually, which were flavorful and with good texture on the fried dumpling skins.  The pork soup dumplings were pretty good, but the broth tasted a bit of chicken flavor, which wasn't bad and maybe neither here nor there, but it wasn't a typical taste of soup dumplings we have had.  The texture of the smallish shrimp rice rolls was very light and delicate and not as firm as with typical rice rolls or crepes.  The pork and chives dumplings were pretty ordinary and wife said she could make the same quality at home.  Overall, decent dumplings, but for a lunch retailing at $42.60 pre tax and tip, the two of us were not stuffed either. Besides dumplings, they also sell some dim sum and other stir fry and noodle entrees as well as milk teas, smoothies, and beer.  I would tend to stick with their dumplings as that is their specialty.  The service was fine and they had pretty brisk business on this Thursday lunch time. This is a fun Asian restaurant in our neighborhood. It's a dim sum concept with quick service. We've been there twice. On our mid-week dinner experience we had. No trouble getting a table. When we returned on a Friday night there was a wait for a table with quite a few people ahead of us so we placed a to go order. Came here with friends after seeing it all over social media. I'd recommend the Mango Sago and Mini Sanji. Heads up the Mini Sanji only comes in pork, while the regular Sanji has different flavor options. I'd especially recommend getting the Mini Sanji with boba if you're looking for more of a snack or on-the-go option, though the boba selection is limited for this combo. The soup dumplings had plenty of soup, which was great, but the flavor was a bit off for the crab and pork ones. The piggy buns were cute but on the bland side. We weren't really fans of the other boba drinks we tried. They were pretty sweet, so I'd suggest ordering 25% sugar. Service was friendly but could definitely use some improvement. read more

Soup dumplings for the win! We stopped by after Barnaby's looked crazy crowded on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. All the tables here were full, and despite being told the wait would be 20 min, we only had to wait about 10 for our party of 4 to be seated. Sanji is still working on their liquor license, so beer is not available yet, though you'll see it on the back page of the menu. Yay: - onion pancakes. Crispy and flavorful. - beef chow fun, albeit a little greasy, but flavors and textures were there, and it was served piping hot. - beef Sanji! Crispy bottoms and full of plump meat. Also have to try it given the name of the place! - soup dumplings, served with cute spoons for consuming! Nay: - piggy buns. Visual appeal won over the taste. These are filled with a custard, but overall the bites were a bit bland and dry. - rice in lotus leaf. They were very modestly sized and would rather fill up on soup dumplings! We'll be back! Seeing this restaurant all over instagram I knew we needed to make a stop, and we're so glad we did. We came by for an early dinner (and boy did they get busy!) around 3:30pm. We were quickly seated and we ordered a few of the items our waiter told us were best sellers. Our favorite were the mini Sanji with the drink, they were fried and were already dressed so we just have to poke and enjoy. The flavors were delicious! The spring rolls were okay. The shu mais were perfectly steamed. The soup dumplings unfortunately were super salty for us. Maybe we just came on an off day? But the piggy buns were so cute we almost couldn't eat it. It was the perfect sweet treat to finish our meal. The two drinks we got were a mango green tea and a taro milk tea. I love sweet drinks, but they were a tad too sweet for me. I get a little too excited when new restaurants open in my neighborhood and I'm apparently in good company because Serious Sanji has been absolutely packed for their soft opening. We decided to skip the crowds and do takeout from here for dinner tonight. We ordered some baos, a variety of dumplings, hot & sour soup (spicy!), spring rolls and cucumbers. Everything disappeared within minutes because the entire family was a fan and my always ravenous boys were asking for more. Next time we will have to order more! I look forward to dining in and am also excited when we are able to get this delivered, which I assume is coming based on their other locations (mostly in Florida). Serious Sanji - Soft opening quite popular! - Bubble Tea Near Me - Northbrook, Illinois

I had been extremely excited when I accidentally found out that Serious Sanji opened last Monday, 9-29-2025 (soft opening). I told my entire extended family about it, and got them excited as well. Last Thursday, I went with my husband and daughter to check the restaurant out. When we arrived around 7:00 pm, we snagged a table by the window close to the counter, the cozy restaurant was almost totally filled, with only one table still available. Interestingly, when I passed by during the day, the entire crew was Asian, but none of their front-of-house staff was Asian in the evening. Our server, Michael, was very friendly and took our order efficiently. We ordered five items and three cups of hot green tea. There was some upbeat pop music going on, but it was very loud, that we had to raise our voice in our conversation. When a different server came with the first item, it was not recognizable as something that we had ordered. I even thought that it was a dainty dish of appetizer on the house! Boy, was I wrong! It turned out to be Shrimp Rice Roll (my rating is 1/5) that we ordered, but it had no resemblance with the menu picture at all. The 3 little rice rolls were tiny and flat, with small shrimps wrapped flat inside. The shrimps were hard and dry. The rice rolls did not have the texture of standard rice rolls. This first dish priced at $8.95 was the first disappointment. Then, they brought out the Fried Shrimp Siu Mai (1/5). They were practically just deep-fried dough with nothing inside. I expected actual siu mai that was deep fried. I didn't even know what I was eating, and 6 little pieces of "dough" are priced at $7.95, are you serious? The Lotus Wrap (3.5/5)($8.95) was a bit better. There were 3 small wraps of sticky rice with meat and mushroom, but could use a bit more flavors. The Signature Fried Noodle with Chicken (3/5)($16.95) did not look like the picture either. The noodles were mushy and broken up into short pieces, they were more like "lo mein" than fried noodles. I would not dare to wish for "wok hey" at this point. However, the flavor was not bad, and the chicken was not dry. They saved the best for last. The Pork Soup Dumplings (4/5)($11.95) were actually pretty good. There were 6 pieces in an order. Michael brought out 3 red dumpling catchers that really facilitated eating the soup dumplings. I would return and eat this dish again. We did not try the Sanji bao this time around. At some point, we might return and try that dish. I hope Serious Sanji would improve and is here to stay. My suggestion is that they should just focus on what they could do best, like their soup dumplings and Sanji bao, and get rid of the unauthentic dim sum that is going to hurt their reputation. Definitely should remove the rice rolls and fried siu mai, unless they change the recipes. Also, the food should look like that on the menu photos, that customers use to guide their decisions. Then, both their customers and they would be happier. I don't mind that they are on the pricey side, but the food has to be good to match the price. Yes, I am serious! read more

Came here for the first time on a Saturday evening around 6 PM. I do not believe they are taking reservations. When we got there, there was definitely a line of people standing by the door as well as people waiting inside in the seating area by the to go pick up space. Upon walking in there was a man taking your name, but actually giving you a notebook for you to write your name and your phone number and number of people in your party. My total wait time was less than 10 minutes and then we got seated. As you can tell from the photos, we ordered quite a bit of items. Overall breakdown is this that the portions are rather small. And sometimes lacking. For example, the Mongolian beef was truly a hunt for beef. The shumai pork and shrimp were very tiny, but tasty. The soup dumplings had a really good wrapper consistency because it was nice and thin. I did tell the person who seemed like the host that I did not understand why they did not have proper soup dumpling soup spoons. Everything was brought out super hot and fresh. The garlic green beans were definitely garlic, although those slightly overcooked. The wonton soup to note is purely a pork wonton no shrimp. The brown sugar Boba that was ordered was very good. The pork chashu bao also very good. I absolutely love that there are so many new dumpling places opening, especially a dumpling place on this side of town. It is located in a strip mall, so there is a lot of shared parking. The service however, was also a little bit confusing because we were seated by one person greeted by another than another person took our order and then at least three people came by with bringing the food and or two rounds of water refills. Service needs an improvement as far as probably a clear division of roles and responsibilities as well as expectations. For example, our primary waiter, knowing when to be attentive, knowing when not to be. Also being a little bit more intuitive as well, realizing that the table had not eaten, and/or had stopped eating. The water refills were consistently inconsistent as well as a Diet Coke refill. I didn't go in with any expectation, so there was no disappointment. The service is very slow but this may be due to soft opening. It's a full house but I felt like there was only 1 person taking order for the whole floor, so often time, it was hard to catch our server to add additional order of food. Water is also not filled until asked. Food took a long time to come out, portion size is also quite small, so place everything you wanted all at once and be prepared to wait a while for lukewarm food to come out. Quite a few popular dish (pork and beef sanjis and soup dumplings) were already out when we sat down at noon, an hour after it's open. So we didn't get to try them...the Dan Dan noodles is probably the best we had among the other dishes here ...skip the spicy beef noodle soup and shrimp crepes as you can see from the photos, IYKYK....and also they must mistaken chinese "crepe" with "western crepe" because the crepe we had is sweet. I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures till the end! They are in their soft opening phase so definitely need to come back and try new things. We LOVED our waiter, so personable and so quick at recommending items. We got the pork and chicken soup dumplings, which we loved (the pork more than the chicken but both still good). Super sad that they ran out of the beef chow fun during lunch but all the more reason to come back to try it! My friend and I tried this place tonight for dinner. The service was fast and friendly. We ordered the milk teas. You had to choose your sweetness level and add ins which was a little different. They were pretty good. We had a few different dishes. The chili oil wontons were our favorite. The pork buns were ok, there was a sweetness to the meat inside I don't like sweet when it's supposed to be savory. The cucumbers even in the sauce didn't marinate long enough to keep the flavor of the sauce. We tried 2 different kinds of soup dumplings. It's refreshing, sweet, and comes with popping boba. The milk tea was creamy and the peach flavor was bold in a good way. Both were super delicious, refreshing, and exactly what I want from a good boba spot. I also appreciated that you could choose sugar and ice levels. There isn't a lot of meat in the buns, just a pinch, the bread around it was tasty. The spicy soup was flavorful, but definitely had a kick. Prices were on the higher side, but guess that's Northshore. For the two items we bought after tax and tip it was $40. There's still a pretty steady stream of people coming in and out. Ok, went to Serious Sanji and felt that the soup dumplings were excellent. The other items we ordered were meh. We had wonton noodle soup (bland) ha gow (measly little dumplings needed more shrimp in them) and lotus wrapped rice (good but only had mushroom and a little meat) ordered hoisin sauce and they brought a version of super salty intense seafood oyster sauce for cooking, NOT a condiment! All in all I'd go back to get the soup dumplings and cautiously try some other things. Nice to have the option of homemade soup dumplings in the suburbs with the price of gas! Did you know? Serious sanji has three diff kinds of sanji buns. The best things were the sanji buns and beef chow fun. The rest of the items are not authentic dim sum. I suspect they purchase and reheat from frozen. The piggy buns, shrimp dumplings, and green onion pancake are available at an asian grocery store, which were steamed and served. The smoothie had crunchy tapioca which was a very unappetizing texture. If you're looking for good dim sum, this was very underwhelming. The soup dumplings to me were like slimy pot stickers but the wok fried ones I enjoyed a bit more. The egg rolls were average but were cut diagonally in half allowing them to cool off in record time. The worst choice was the scallion pancakes which were limp and greasy. The beef with noodles was the best of the mains and unfortunately the orange and sesame chicken dishes were over breaded and too chewy. My husband and I are soup dumpling fans so we were excited to try this place. We were disappointed when the soup dumplings came out. We only got pork bc the crab and pork ones were out. First bad sign was that the sauce that was brought out was not typical black vinegar and ginger based. The dumplings looked bloated and as we picked up the dumplings we could see that it was over cooked so all the soup leaked out. None of the dumplings in our 2 orders had any soup. The pork filling was overcooked so it was a weird mix of bloated and wet dumpling skin with dry pork. We also got an order of spare ribs which wasn't too bad...just a tad on salty side from the sauce. Not sure we'll try this place again.
