This is a small, cozy spot. I liked the eccletic collection of wall art and decor. The random pieces and combination of textures, patterns, and colors give the feel of a grandma's living room where years of collected treasures are displayed. The inspirational and motivational wall signs also give a welcoming feel for groups to gather, drink and chat. I ordered the crushed Green Milk Tea. Avalanche is a great little oasis of flavor tucked into a nondescript Morton Grove strip mall. The menu is broad and service is friendly; in fact, they offer such a wide array of choices that I was left standing at the counter stumped for a few minutes. And after I tried my drink, I kinda wished I had ordered a large. While you wait for your order, be sure to check out the eclectic wall decor, which is by turns interesting and funny. Get lots of good stuff in your bubble tea from here. It's a pretty boring looking place from the outside in a strip mall but don't let that make you think it sucks. Avalanche is one of the first and still among the best places for bubble tea in Morton Grove. Pretty small inside but there's a few comfortable chairs and couches to relax on. The menu is pretty must just teas. Came when it was warm and I needed a cool drink. It hit the spot for sure. The main things here are teas. Basically that is the entire menu. It's about $5 for a regular size tea. Get fruit teas or milk teas, and these come with boba. There's other stuff to add as well. Lychee jelly is an interesting one to mix in. They also have almond and coconut among the non dairy milks. Has lots of cool drinks. It's located in a strip mall. Their menu hasn't changed much from what I remember. They offer so many flavors I wanna try them all! This time, I got taro which I love because the flavor is pretty strong compared to other places. They have alot of other unique hybrid flavors I would love to try. When I say the place hasn't changed a bit, I mean it. It's super busy in and around here. The raspberry redhead is sour, peanut banana, mango lychee boba and a strawberry watermelon. Our 3 drink orders would take about 5 minutes or so. It took a little over 5 minutes to get our orders. The mango lychee boba is tasty, such a nice balance from the lychee and boba. The strawberry watermelon is refreshingly good. I can definitely taste the watermelon juice, it's fresh and little bits of the strawberry seeds too. The peanut butter banana was the best of the 3, but all are quite good. read more

Tried two different drinks here, both were underwhelming. 1) taro coconut slush-- oddly tasted just like the buttered popcorn flavor of jelly-belly 2) mango slush-- tasted like a mango smoothie, pretty average, but the better of the two Pearls are pretty tasteless, seems like they aren't sweetened. We walked over here to kill some time while our pizza was being prepared at Burt's Place, just down the street. This wound up being a pleasant surprise! We love bubble tea, and are spoiled for selection throughout the Chicagoland area. Avalanche Bubble Tea now ranks highly on our list of local bubble tea places. My husband got the taro bubble tea, which was satisfyingly flavorful, with a good consistency. Some other places make it too icy, but this was just right. I ordered the mango passionfruit with boba, which they had listed as a top-seller. This was a good choice, especially if your sweet tooth is acting up. It was delectable and tangy, and again the consistency was spot-on - like a thick, creamy, fruity mousse. My sister got a matcha bubble tea, which was much less sweet than my fruity concoction, but with pronounced matcha flavor. A more sophisticated option, for when your sweet tooth is napping. I will offer that the boba part of the experience could be improved a little bit. The consistency of the boba was just okay - they were a little bit frozen, actually. I am also used to getting a lot more boba in my drink elsewhere. Not sure if they were just having an off day (since I've only been here the one time), or if they just didn't have time to sufficiently thaw enough boba for the crowd that was growing on that warm Saturday evening. In any case, I wouldn't deduct a star over this (maybe half a star). The was a wait since there was like 4-5 orders of multiple drinks ahead of me. Overall price for what I got was good. They gave a generous amount of jelly in my drinks. This was a nice roomy cafe inside a tiny plaza. Even though they have their own private parking lot, parking can be kind of hit or miss depending on how busy it is. But if you're just stopping by to grab a quick drink, they do have a few "10 Min Parking" spots. The inside had some cute quirky decorations and I can see the appeal to hang out in the space. They have a very extensive menu for bubble tea - lots of options to choose from. I was kind of overwhelmed but the guy behind the counter was very nice in explaining the different drinks to me. I ended up getting a large taro milk tea slush with tapioca. My total came out to be $5 which was perfect because you need a minimum payment of $5 before you can use your credit/debit card. It dawned on me afterwards that I never did see a price listed anywhere for the bubble tea. I think they should put a price under the hanging sign where they show the different sizes of regular and large cups. I did see a sign that says that in March, they will raise the price of flavor bubble tea by 50 cents because of increased flavor cost. I don't believe I saw any sign about adjusting the sugar level in the drinks but I remember asking about it and they were able to make my drink less sweet. Overall, my large taro milk tea with tapioca tasted fine. Service was fast and friendly. The only issue I have is that I feel like the cups they use feels flimsy compared to other places. I was juggling a couple shopping bags in my hands with the bubble tea and I squeezed the cup a little harder and I ended up making a crack in the side which of course started to leak taro milk tea all over my bags.
