Randomly stopped by here on a weekday early evening, late lunchtime frame. It is in a strip mall area with other stores and has lots of shared parking. Disclaimer I forgot to take a picture of what I ordered, which was the chicken teriyaki bento box I forgot because I was so hungry and everything was so freshly cooked and hot that I just dived right in. That bento box had edamame a spring roll gyoza and the rice covered in furikake plus the chicken teriyaki and seaweed salad and more. I also ordered the lychee jasmine tea, which was cold and absolutely delicious and it was not a cup of diabetes, thank goodness We also ordered a Tonkatsu bowl, which was very generous, freshly cooked and super tasty. Both orders came with a miso soup, which was also piping hot and tasty. The set up is definitely a little bit more fast food because you can order to counter and then get your food on a tray and sit down or you can order it from a kiosk as well. They also do takeout orders. The best part about this place besides the food and the ambience are just so cute and modern and clean is the staff and the manager. People really do make the difference and people really do enhance an experience and an overall lasting and first impression. I would absolutely come back here. It is super conveniently located. Came by this little snack shop one afternoon for lunch. The food is good! The staff is nice. My only complaint is that there is a lack of tables to sit at and you'll have to share one big table with other people. So, a good place to pick up to go snacks. Tonkatsu ramen: creamy and savoury. Not too extremely salty, which was great! The pork was yummy. Spam musubi: the spam to rice ratio was perfect. The spam was nicely seasoned and the rice had a nice sprinkling of furikake. read more

This is a charming and small place located in a busy shopping plaza with other restaurants. "Ichi," which means "one", as in "this lunch restaurant is #1 in my book." There is ramen, donburi bowls, bento, onigiri and more. I ordered a katsu curry bowl and a mango smoothie with boba. The katsu was crispy, golden brown and generously portioned over a mountain of rice. There is a Japanese folk tale about a never-ending bowl of rice and this bowl was almost infinite on the bottom. I couldn't believe how fathomless it seemed with quantities of rice and curry. And hot! It was very hot (temperature) and stayed that way through my time at the restaurant and as I took my leftovers out of the car, and into the fridge, the bottom was hot to the touch. It was so good! We are big AO Sushi fans (located a few doors down from Ichi) and pick up sushi from there at least once a week. 2 of my 3 kids weren't feeling in a sushi mood so I suggested I pick up something from Ichi for them instead....easy enough to pick up from both places. They each ordered the ramen and bao buns. The ramen itself was a nice size portion and would have been enough, but they really loved the baos...and then ate about half the ramen. I tried a few bites of each and both were pretty great. Kid #3 who would live on AO sushi if he could was even jealous of their meals, but they were nice enough to share w/ him after he took down 2 sushi rolls. This place is tucked in a strip mall with at least two other Japanese restaurants, the interior is fresh and clean with only one table. That table was taken by a larger group than our family of four. Thank God this spot was open on NYE! This time I tried the salmon bento box. For $18 this box came with a ton of food, so I had some left for the following day. I got mine with the Multigrain rice and mixed salad. I asked for hot sauce and they were nice enough to let me try their homemade spicy paste. Great service and a clean setting, but the food was hit-or-miss. The curry udon was disappointing--just noodles swimming in a thin, watery broth with barely any substance. On the brighter side, the bento box had very fresh vegetables and was well-balanced. The veggie roll, though, had way too much rice wrapped around it, which overpowered the filling. It was my first time here and wow, it was so good! I need to try the other dishes, but the Beef Yakiniku Donburi was so delicious!!! The dish has butter corn and beef in a garlic bbq sauce. I also ordered the Plain Bob Ramen with Torino broth, which taste the same from Torino Restaurant. The place is small but there's one large table. Ichi by Torino has food that is so, so, so good!!! If the location was closer to our home, we would probably be there once a week. Service is good & friendly. It is more of a lunch spot & the seating reflects that. One community table & 6 barstools seating just so inconvenient. I purposely avoid restos with community tables. Ichi is a charming restaurant in Wilmette with a decent amount of indoor seating. Very cute interior and easy to navigate menu. They have electric outlets the table and it's a perfect place for a quick bite with family or if you want to sit and work while you eat. The menu is extensive and has something got everyone. There are bento boxes, ramen, onigiri, baos, rice bowls, you name it they've got it. I wanted to try everything. We ordered the chicken teriyaki and tonkatsu bento boxes which had HUGE portion sizes and a good variety of things to eat in the bento box. Menu is simple but well executed. Dined in twice and ordered to go 4+ times now. Ramen is always excellent. Broth and toppings are what you'd expect. Pork chashu is very good. Karage chicken also very good. The spicy tonkotsu pork broth is definitely spicy, but seems to be less spicy than when it first opened? I liked it spicier but this is a minor detail. This place is so delicious, it's really hard to find a good bao in the suburbs so I am glad we found this place. I come here with my boyfriend all the time and usually pick up to go. Even after coming home it's still amazing. Food- ramen was good. Broth was flavorful. Pork belly was a bit too fatty (which I low key like because I'm a fatty). The karage bao was good, but I feel like it needed a little something more. It was underwhelming. Not gonna lie though- I was very caught off guard with how the ramen was served lol. Not the traditional sit down ramen place with a proper bowl, chopsticks, and spoon. The contents of the ramen are the top half of the container, which has to removed to access the broth. It's seems like a pretty small portion, which I was not happy about. Ambience- again not your traditional setting which is cool. Just caught off guard a little bit. It has college vibes. I would've really enjoyed this place as a young adult. Plug in my laptop and enjoy some snacks with my classmates. Service- staff was friendly. You put away you're own tray type of place. Ok- here is an update. Knowing management they are in a continuous dialogue with customers, tweaking, adding trimming til they get it right. Long time customers may not appreciate the new offerings. You HAVE TO TRY THE BENTO AND ONIGIRI. They are both super nutritious and filling lunches. The bento are especially interesting - a festival of delights made by experienced moms who are used to surprising the diner (usually a family member) with the contents. Lots of veggies, very nutritious. The Onigiri are super filling, way bigger than you get in Japan. Take them on a hike, to a soccer game, whatever. It makes a great day. By far the best Tonkotsu Ramen I have had in the area and Chicago. The Boba drinks were subpar though- too diluted and was not very tasty. I came at around 7PM on a Friday, they only had one large table and bar seats which were uncomfortable. The large table was filled by college kids that were obviously friends with the staff- I dined in and was given paper bowls and plastic spoons. They just opened 2 weeks ago so I am hoping that in the near future they will be able to offer better dining experience. I will for sure come back and try other food in the menu. read more

We had excellent food at Ichi. We were waiting for it to open, knowing that we loved the ramen at their original restaurant in Wilmette. You can get the ramen here too in more of a fast casual ambience. We also enjoyed the pork bao and chicken donburi. Try the tuna fish triangles surrounded by sticky rice and crispy seaweed. Yum!!! Huge Torino fan so was excited to hear about Ichi. We got the tonkotsu ramen and the spicy tonkotsu ramen but they were labeled incorrectly which caused some initial confusion as my poor partner just thought their regular ramen was spicy and I didn't understand why mine wasn't spicy at all. But let me tell you spicy means SPICY! It was so spicy we couldn't finish it. My sister got the ebi shrimp chili donburi which is noted as spicy but it's no joke - it's SPICY. She couldn't finish her food either. And we both love spicy food but this was over the top for us. The packaging is very creative but the portions are much smaller than we had at Torino which was disappointing. I'll definitely go back again and the food was good, but next time will avoid the word spicy so we can fully enjoy the food. read more

This is a recently opened casual offshoot of a highly-regarded Torino Wilmette. I have been here about six times, and I absolutely plan on coming back. This location is more convenient for me and is wonderful for take-outs. I am a soup fiend, and their ramen really hits the spot. I am pretty boring with my order and get the same thing every time -Tonkotsu pork ramen with added sweet corn. Yummy! Their take-out container is ingenious! Everything stays warm and no spillage.
