If the word "aji" means something to you, this is the place that has it. Got invited for a sushi lunch and it was decent so we went back to try the dinner entrees. Nice presentation evoking Japanese home style: shredded cabbage with bean sprouts and a garnish of broccoli. The tonkatsu was nicely crispy. I loved the ginger salad dressing and husband thought it was the best miso shiru he's had in a long time (for the price you only get to have soup OR salad). Checked out this long time favorite in Glenview. It's one of the best places around for sushi. Nobori is a pretty nondescript looking place, but don't let that fool you. Has better looking and tasting food. There's good ways to save including the combos at lunch. After finding out about this place we made sure to come in the next time being around here. It's a bit of a ways from the downtown area along Waukegan Road. This is located in a pretty boring looking strip mall, but the food wasn't boring though. It's about $17 for a Lunch Combo. The Roll Combo comes with a choice of 2 rolls. Lots to choose from. We got a couple vegetarian ones: the avocado and the spinach. Except for being kind of small, these had some excellent flavor. These were fresh and we got pretty good service. Better place to get sushi it seems than among the places around here. It has really good value at lunch. This has been a staple of our takeout since we moved here more than 15 years ago. Mr Nobori, the gentleman who runs it, is personable and deeply involved in the business, working behind the counter, himself all of those years... Along with some employees, of course. For dine in, the room is nothing fancy,... bordering on spartan. No real ambience like some of the hipster sushi places. That said, the service is quick and attentive. And the sushi is quite good. Nice selection of nigiri and traditional, and specialty maki, along with a variety of other Japanese specialties. I've been meaning to try this for a very long time. There's no online ordering for lunch so you have to give them a call to place an order. Their lunch menu only offers combo meals, which I wasn't a fan of cause what if I just wanted one thing. There were also no prices on the online menu. I had called and ordered the udon and a roll. The udon broth wasn't bad. It was flavorful and has that seaweed/Kombu taste so they probably simmered it for awhile. I had the unagi roll. It was good, but nothing crazy special about it. But I would probably get it again. At first I thought wow $20 for lunch seems so steep, but then I realized I got 2 entrees which essentially are like $10 each so it's not terrible. But again, I would have preferred to pick whatever I wanted but their combo choices aren't bad. I wanna try their katsu next time though. read more

My daughter and I liked the food here the first time we tried the place. She ordered Spicy Tuna and Crunch California rolls, and I ordered the Shrimp Tempura entree and a Spider Roll. The rolls were delicious, the portion size and quality were great and I also liked my Tempura dish. Service was friendly but it was very slow. The place was packed and busy on a Friday night crowd and yet there was one server in the entire place. The owner was helping clear out some tables from time to time but he was busy at the kitchen counter as well. A couple of weeks later, we were craving for some Japanese food again so we decided to give Nobori Sushi another chance. This time, even on a Friday night, the place only had one table occupied and I knew that this is an effect of COVID '19. I ordered the Rainbow Roll w/ Shrimp Tempura and Turtle Roll while my daughter had the Pork Cutlet meal. All the dishes were delicious and since the place was practically empty, service was friendly, fast and efficient. I love supporting small business owners with great products and an equally awesome service. First, I don't like to write negative reviews, but I have some criticism to share. The food was decent, service was meh! The pricing is outrageous. I went in for a lunch special and was shocked that a roll and teriyaki dish was $21. I get inflation and all, but that is not a "Lunch Special," it is overpriced! I ordered a hot tea, thinking it would either be complimentary or maybe $2-3 since no price was on the menu. It was $5 freakin dollars and they didn't even refill. The decent food isn't worth that kind of pricing and no way should anyone be paying over $30(including tip) for lunch at a strip mall sushi joint! I wish them luck. read more

You start with a warm towel to clean your hands. Ask for tea, it's good! Sometimes you have to flag down the person because the staff is small, but food prep is pretty quick. After all these years and even after the pandemic, this is still our go-to place for sushi where the fish tastes right and the sushi rice is prepared properly. The rice always has the perfect balance of vinegar and sugar AND served at the right, warm temperature. Sashimi fish is always cut with the perfect thickness and tastes fresh. Nobori is a low-key, well-priced Japanese restaurant. The lunch specials are great and the food comes out fast. The specials come with soup or salad, and your choice of a roll. I'm a fan of the futomaki because it has the perfect ratio of rice to condiments (e.g. avocado, tamago, cucumber...). On my visit, I ordered tuna without teriyaki sauce. Typical "hole-in-the-wall" sushi place in the strip plaza. The kind where you expect decent value at moderate prices. Nobori delivered quite the opposite. Basic tuna rolls did not have a full circle wrap of seaweed sheet and were falling apart. Poke bowl ordered with both tuna and salmon had only tuna, had 3/4 bowl of rice with very little greens or fish. Handmade roll seaweed wrap was soggy and left unpleasant aftertaste. Now about prices. I understand that given inflation and supply shortages many establishments raised prices. But charging $24.95 for a poke bowl described above is way out of line with other sushi places in the neighborhood. A nearby popular Kamehachi serves great poke bowls at $12/small and $16/large. That'll be the first and last time at Nobori. read more

Not true Japanese. Sushi was good though. Cold Soba noodle was terrible!! I came here for lunch. I ordered noodle combo (1 roll and 1 noodle). I chose salmon roll which was great!! Cold soba looked nice, but it was terrible. Noodle was too soft and slimy which means overcooked and wasn't drained off enough or maybe cooling process went wrong. Dipping sauce was too sweet. I can't believe. I can't make sushi, but I'd better cook soba by myself. Decor wasn't my taste, but just like regular Izakaya + sushi bar style. Service was great. I loved the wet towel they provided. It was disappointed. If it's only sushi, it would work for me. read more

This is our new goto in the area. Service can be slow, yet it's not a big deal when you plan ahead. We go knowing basically what we want, order apps immediately and then wait for the sushi while we snack. Honestly, I ended up eating at Nobori Sushi on the whim when I was on the way to eat at a different restaurant and couldn't find the other place. Nobori Sushi is located in a strip mall on Waukegan Rd and easy to spot. There are plenty of parking spots available in the lot and many different shops/services in the mall as well. Nobori Sushi is small in size, but has lots to offer. I ate here for lunch and was pleased to find various dishes on the lunch menu. I ended up choosing a katsu don (one of my favorite Japanese bowls) and the katsu don came with either a soup or salad. I opted for a salad. The dressing on the salad was absolutely fresh and tasty! Serving size of the katsu don was huge and I really liked how fluffy the katsu and egg were. Good thing I came hungry, since I was able to finish the whole thing! This is a solid sushi place in the suburbs in a really obscure location. Every time I leave a sushi review, I have to preface it by saying I'm a spoiled sushi snob who spent time in Boston and NYC and have eaten at amazing places in coastal Maine and SF and San Diego... Anyway, my boyfriend and I ordered 4 pieces of super white tuna, a salmon belly sashimi appetizer, the Chicago Fire roll, and a white tuna tempura roll. Everything was delicious except the white tuna tempura roll - it tasted like cooked canned tuna that was breaded and there was too much rice around the fish. I think we were expecting more of a crunchy white tuna roll. Oh well. The service was good, really nice waitress, and it seems like a lot of people get takeout from there. My main gripe with this place has to be the prices. I don't think there's anything about it that sets it so far apart from other sushi restaurants that their special rolls should be $18 on average. The white tuna tempura roll is considered a more classic roll and it was $8, so that's pretty steep for what it is. The pieces of super white tuna were $3 a piece which is more than other places, but they gave pretty sizable pieces so I'm okay with that. read more

Hurrah for another unique lunch option in Glenview! And a quality one, too. They have a great lunch special--$7.95 for two rolls or $8.95 for a roll and either a noodle dish, a teriyaki dish, or a meat cutlet. Soup or salad included in any case. The sushi is fresh and very tasty. My favorites are the yellowtail and scallion and the crunchy California (although sometimes the tempura bits are more soggy than crunchy). They do a pleasant presentation, too--not Picasso-level but usually something more interesting than just six cylinders on a slab. Simply put, their udon is the best Asian noodle dish that I have had anywhere in the city or suburbs. So freaking good. Ugh, I have to stop writing these reviews before lunch... Service notes: Overall, gracious and friendly, but the chatty owner hovers around the dining room during lunch, and when I am there reading, he should take that as a cue that I don't want to be bothered. He does remember people though and if that is your cup of tea, will be happy to speak to you at length about the community, the restaurant business, and Japanese food. They screwed up one of my rolls in two of my first three visits. The first time was takeout and only upon reaching home did I discover a cucumber roll instead of a shitake roll. Ugh, a cucumber maki roll is about the boringest piece of food that I can imagine. Another time was in the restaurant when they gave me a regular California instead of a spicy California. No problems my last couple of visits though. I will probably come in here at least once a month for the forseeable future. read more

This is my local go-to sushi place. It's pricier than others in the area, but worth it. They always deliver. There are a few little quirks about dining here, like they don't substitute almost anything--a little annoying. But for the quality of their food, it's worth the minor annoyance. I'm pretty picky about fish quality and this place has it. Personally, I enjoy this place. They bring you a walk towel for your hands before your meal which I thinkit's a little something extra. They also have the biggest selection of beverages I've ever seen at a sushi place. So, you know, there's that too. It's easy to miss as it's in the middle of a shopping center, and the sign is slightly hard to read if you don't know what you're looking for. But if you find it, you'll be happy. Hopefully. I am. Very good. My husband ordered something that I can't even describe. I forgot the name but it was a baked rice and pork dish that was to die for. Total comfort food. I ordered a very basic chicken teriyaki, which was delicious. I also had miso soup and california rolls. We were dining with the baby and wanted to keep in on the mild side. But he loves ginger and was stuffing it into his face. Considering how much I enjoy Japanese food, we will be back. It is reasonably priced. The manager is the one who serves you.
