Bento box salmon teriyaki and beef teriyaki
Zarnigor N.

Beef teriyaki was dry and salmon teriyaki could be better. It is ok to eat once ) over all i wouldnt say 5 star sushi place.

We came in for a late dinner and got seated quickly. Servers were attentive and fast. I ordered the salmon (sake) don and my friend got the Maki Pick 2 B. The salmon was fresh and yummy, and I liked the furikake they put over the rice. With a little soy sauce, the whole thing was delicious. I do wish there was a little bit more rice, and maybe one or two more slices of salmon but I was still quite full at the end of my meal.

Maki Combo With Avocado And Sweet Potato Maki

Classic old school kind of place for sushi with a bit of modernness but not too much of course. It's the best place for sushi in Morton Grove. Sushi Kaya is authentic but it's not stifling creativity at the same time. Get lots of the classic rolls along with a few new kinds. The prices are pretty good for the lunch specials. A lot to like about the sushi including that you get a lot for cheap. It has quite a few specials to choose from. There's sushi along with noodles and other items. It's $16 for the Maki Combo. This is a meal with miso soup and the choice of 2 maki rolls. Good value for a lot of food. We got it with the Avocado and the Sweet Potato Maki. Lots of food. The avocado was creamy, and the sweet potatoes were cooked enough to be soft and firm at the same time. Hard to stand out from all the sushi places around here. It manages to yet do so even though it's an unassuming place. The miso soup and quite a few of the rolls are okay for vegetarians.

This place is so cute. It was calm when my party came for dinner. The waitress was very sweet and the men that were visible making sushi were so nice, too. The food came out pretty quick and it was delicious. The waitress even ran out to give us our one to-go roll that I forgot on the table (lol). Honestly, I want to come back and order enough sushi it get it on the wooden boats. Some day ~

My friend suggested Sushi Kaya in Morton Grove and I was happy to go there, as I drive Dempster quite often and was not familiar with it. There is a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant (this is in Dempster). There was just one other party dining when we arrived. We were a little surprised that there was not a lunch menu. Prices seemed high for lunch, and we both settled on the sushi roll combo (2) with miso soup. I picked the ebi q and rock 'n' roll. The roll was perfectly fine, the portion seemed a little meagre (see my picture my lunch was $18). We both finished our meals and (unbeknownst to my friend) I stopped at a bubble tea shop afterwards because I was still hungry. I might return for dinner to try some of the other dishes. They had some selections of donburi which is one of my favorites.

Reasonably-priced wide selection of Japanese dishes close to Evanston. The nabe udon I ordered was delicious -- really flavorful, umami broth and thick noodles. I also enjoyed the shrimp tempura mango maki roll I ordered! My friends and I each ordered pretty substantial dishes and ended up paying ~$25-28 per person. This is a great place to go with friends if you all want to eat different things: they had rice bowls, maki rolls/nigiri/sashimi, bento boxes, noodles, and a variety of appetizers as well. How do more people NOT know about Sushi Kaya? I guess it's a good thing so I can still order carryout out from them and they tell me my order would be ready for pick up in 15 minutes. My wife and I have tried almost every appetizer from the menu. If you're thinking about appetizers, go with the deep fried dumplings. So good! We usually order that and the Kaya crunchy roll. We love the cream cheese nestled into the making roll. It is topped with rice Krispies. Can't wait til to go back!

One our favorite mom and spot spots where you feel like family when you come in. Great sushi for a very reasonable price.

Also this is a kosher restaurant which was super cool. We immediately were seated and asked for our drink orders. I ordered the lemon drop super delicious. Our waiter was also very patient with us because we were in such deep conversation and he allowed us to talk and was patient when we took a little longer to decide on our orders. We all ordered steaks, some came with asparagus, shallots, and mashed potatoes. A man came around and gave each of us a rose!!!! That was the sweetest gesture because we were 3 ladies out on valentines day with no male dates lol. Now to the steaks, They were BIG 10oz & very dense lol. I had mine cooked medium and it came with asparagus & shallots. We all enjoyed our meals. We got our checks and it comes in one so we just split it 3 ways to make it easier for the waiter. Overall the meal was delicious, drinks were great, and the ambiance is nice. I recommend this restaurant for a nice date night or even a business dinner.

And the restaurant is well decorated and comfortable. Definitely worth the drive from downtown, and I will be recommending Shallots to anyone who keeps Kosher, along with anyone that desires a tremendous dining experience! Well done!!!

There is easy street parking available, but I was walking so did not need any parking. The restaurant space has plenty of tables and was clean. There were a few tables sat when I walked in. There are no signs to wait for host/seat yourself, so I stood at the front for a few minutes before who I think is the owner actually ended up coming up and helping. He was running around, very busy, helping prepare and serve the food to the tables that had already ordered. I asked if I could just place an order to go and just ordered a Pad Thai for carry out. The food came out honestly very quickly for just one person in the kitchen plus the owner, and with other tables already with tickets in, but I would not necessarily say this is a super fast in and out experience if you're in a rush. The take out container was packaged in a thick brown bag (no breaking through the bottom of the bag on the walk home here!) and the owner cashed me out himself. He was very kind but did not really engage in any of the small talk I attempted while waiting for the screens to load and payment to process. The Pad Thai was packed super neatly and cleanly in a plastic take out box. The serving size was deceptively large, and they pack in a heavy serving of noodles and bean sprouts and your protein of choice (chicken for me!) into this little box. I was shocked at how fresh everything tasted! This was a perfect Pad Thai and I will absolutely order this a million times over living right down the block. There were plenty of fresh bean sprouts, the noodles were cooked perfect, it wasn't dry or drowning in sauce, a little lime wedge on the side and I was a happy camper. I can't wait to come back and try more menu items, their amazing lunch specials, and support a local business. Thank you, Mai Thai and Sushi!

Every single dish was better and better, the service was amazing, the ambiance is beautiful, and I seriously think this is a contender for the best restaurant that I have ever been to in my 19 years of travel and cuisine review. Thoroughly enjoyed, worth the drive, the food is to die for. Prices are very reasonable, portions are amazing, and the quality of the dishes is so authentic that it's ruined eating anywhere else for me because I know I won't be able to relive the taste I had the first time I came here. The last two times we went there we've had a new server(younger female). Both times she's screwed up our order. The first time, she forgot an appetizer all together and I had to ask for the bowl of rice that was supposed to come with it. The second time, my wife's dish came out first. I could see my dish sitting in the window for at least five minutes before she decided to grab it and bring it to a table that wasn't ours. The table she brought it to had ordered the same dish literally 2 minutes before mine was put in the window. She brought it to him before his appetizer was even up. He had specifically asked for zero spice and no peppers. The dish I ordered was a spice level 3. Not the best screw up when someone specifically asks for zero spice. She then avoided our table entirely and offered no explanation or apology. The younger male then brought us our check. We've loved this spot as a solid go to because we live walking distance and it doesn't disappoint. Moving forward, we'll probably opt for something else in the neighborhood. I won't be going back as long as she's working there. Food is good and prices are fair. Thumbs down on the drop in service quality.
