One of a kind. You won't find a place like this anywhere else. All kosher meals. Clean fresh elegant food. Displayed real well. Host and waitress are very friendly and respectful. Very pricey but expected for the quality of food. Generous servings. A lot of parking available and wheelchairs accessable. Interior is designed very fancy and elegant.

Steak w/asparagus & shallots

I arrived to meet some new friends for valentines day. The ambiance was so lovely, dim lights and the seating was very appropriate with the covid guidelines. Also this is a kosher restaurant which was super cool. We immediately were seated and asked for our drink orders. I ordered the lemon drop super delicious. Our waiter was also very patient with us because we were in such deep conversation and he allowed us to talk and was patient when we took a little longer to decide on our orders. We all ordered steaks, some came with asparagus, shallots, and mashed potatoes. A man came around and gave each of us a rose!!!! That was the sweetest gesture because we were 3 ladies out on valentines day with no male dates lol. Now to the steaks, They were BIG 10oz & very dense lol. I had mine cooked medium and it came with asparagus & shallots. We all enjoyed our meals. We got our checks and it comes in one so we just split it 3 ways to make it easier for the waiter. Overall the meal was delicious, drinks were great, and the ambiance is nice. I recommend this restaurant for a nice date night or even a business dinner.

Sorry it's been 2 years since I've updated my review, I've been here many times since as its one of my favorite places to dine. This time we were tempted by the special Channukah menu. I must say, though I'm still giving it 5 stars, in the future I'll stick with the regular menu. We started with the turkey soup which we agreed was super delicious, things from there went down hill but then, thankfully uphill. We then tried the trio of latkes: butternut squash, potato, and zucchini- meh. Then the brisket latke tacos which were quite tasty but greasy and messy and I'd rather just eat a deconstructed version of those. The sufganyot, well, what could be bad! We ate in an enclosed tent which we'd have been leary of but we were the only ones in there (went for a very early lunch). We had a heater at each side of the table and were quite comfortable. As usual, our server was very good. Please continue to supporting our kosher restaurants through these tough times and always.

Lighted sea urchin attacking my head at the best place for kosher food in Chicago :-) :-)

Love this place. Fantastic kosher food in an elegant atmosphere. Perfect place for anything from a work lunch to your wedding reception. 10/10! :-)

The cocktails i saw being served had great presentation.

Our sever was very nice. However, the food was terrible. Our food was overcooked, dry and salty. If I didn't have a glass of water, I might have choked on the hockey puck of food they served. The place is Kosher, I get that the choices may be a tad limited if that's what you are looking for; but for the price range (appetizers averaged $20+, entrees averaged $50s++, with a burger at $25). Server was nice, but did not ask why we only took a couple of bites of our entree and did not want the rest to go, he seemed uncomfortable and didn't want to deal with it. By the way, they automatically add 20% tip. It was only two of us.. Overall, pick another place, not recommended at all for food.

Grilled Chicken Brochette

Food is delicious but highway Robbery! I ordered one appetizer to go and picked up a dry chicken skewer appetizer with a few sauces on the side and paid $26. I know kosher food is expensive, but I think it's pushing it. On the plus side, they do offer kosher sushi which was delicious, but, again, prices were outrageous.

This is how my $70 meal looks like. Tell me if this is even fair. The worst place ever.
Nurul I.

The food is tasteless. I asked for bistro burger and I got the steak ... a very tasteless dry steak. I spent $70 for this meal. Such a waste!

Shallots: quick service with a lovely ambiance. It is a bit expensive, but the food is quite good. The chicken dish I had was well cooked and nicely plated though it did not blow me away for the price.

I want to give Taboun Grill 5 Stars - But, I would be telling the truth and that just isn't right for this Tzadik/Mensch. We enjoyed our meal and particularly enjoyed the appetizers. My Goyish friend - who considers himself Israeli commented that the Hummus was watery. I have to agree with him! ;-) - Service - from our Wonderful/Beautiful Romanian Waitress was on point; - Our water was always kept topped off and the Kitchen ran efficiently and expeditiously to deliver the food to the tables in a timely fashion; - Restaurant was busy - not mobbed; - which is a good thing. Interesting take on the Laffa - I enjoyed my meal and left with a full belly. Highlight of the Restaurant was the incredibly Judaica artwork that adorns the walls. I hope they are selling these pieces - because they were gorgeous - just lovely. You definitely felt like you were in an Israeli/Middle Eastern Restaurant - Tables were comfortable and you didn't feel crammed inside - like you would at Grill Point; But - this wasn't Grill Point (Kew Garden Hills, Queens) - Lots of Yentahs and Mitzvah boys. Enjoyed it and would definitely recommend. Enjoyable meal with great food! Price was reasonable for a Kosher Restaurant.

Out of several other restaurants listed, Sarah's was the only one that captured my interest, plus it was a restaurant that I had not visited before in Skokie. Sarah's Brick Oven itself is linked to Sarah's Tent, a market for kosher products that is located where Oakton St connects with N Crawford Ave in Skokie. And in spite of it being linked to Sarah's Tent, there is an acceptable number of parking spots available. After entering and having plenty of time to look at the menu above the counter, and even on the laminated menu, I was acknowledged shortly after the customer ahead of me had finished ordering. I took an interest in the impossible burger after contemplating between the truffle mac & pizza, and the norma jean burger after I noticed that the impossible burger came with barbecue, onion rings, and served on a pretzel bun! And it was completed within a reasonable timeframe. I opted out of dine-in, choosing to take my order to go because I had errands I needed to complete, plus I did not want to be in the area long. Moreover, the restaurant appeared clean, and the atmosphere gave off a very relaxed vibe. There were a number of tables with seats inside of the dining area, and I must say that I adored the interior, and the ceiling decoration which gave off sukkot vibes. As for the food, other than my jaw popping because I had to open my mouth wide to take a bite of that stacked impossible burger, I enjoyed the satisfying taste of it once I had gotten settled in for the evening. It was delicious! And I most definitely recommend it if you are having trouble identifying something to try on the menu at Sarah's. Being that I had a good experience, I would gladly re-visit Sarah's Brick Oven again whenever in the Skokie area. Or maybe I will just make a visit solely for it, tehehe. I'm extremely thankful to have a friend who introduced me to this bagel spot. Definitely a top 2…read morefavorite of mine. I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. My go to selection is the egg bagel with chive cream cheese. It's chef's kiss and hits the spot. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!!

If you're expecting this to be interchangeable with the franchised bagel places that have spread…read moreacross the country, recalibrate now. This is not that. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.
