We were in the area again today and stopped in. This time instead of a sandwich we got some sweets to take home. The service was nice and fast. The facility is clean.

This deli offers hot and cold sandwiches, bagels, pastries, hot and cold sides, bread, candy, chips, drinks, and more. The service is fast. This was my first time visiting. We ordered the New Jersey Bypass Sandwich and grabbed a couple of loaves of bread. That sandwich is just amazing. Those flavors with mustard just mixed perfectly, and the meat literally melts in your mouth. And do we even need to mention the size. There are tables for dining in. The area is spacious.

Great spot for really delicious corned beef! I like it hot and lean but sometimes have to get it cold since won't eat it until later . But man the smell of a hot corned beef sandwich is to die for! Happy st Patrick's day! Give this place a try for your vintner beef and briskets! Plus their fresh bread and bagels!

Got nova lox, pumpernickel bread and chicken liver. The chicken liver tasted and smelled a little raw. I noticed this with the beef liver before so I opted for the chicken this time. I used to love them but somehow these ones don't taste the same as like years before. Was there a new recipe? New cook? Got nova lox, pumpernickel bread and chicken liver. Really didn't know what to expect here. Like a noob, I'm going because I think I want to get some deli sandwiches. The store is bigger than it looks from the outside. My initial impression is... what is this? It's a deli counter, it's a bakery, it's a convenience store... And I don't even know if I'm allowed to get sandwiches here. The guy at the deli counter, totally recognizing my type, calls me over and figures I'm the clueless guy who just stumbled in here because he thinks I think they're a sandwich. The sandwich menu is taped on top of the deli case so you better be ready. We did end up getting four of the giant sandwiches and they were way huge. The corned beef is flavorful, delicate, and fantastic. Depending on which part of the rye loaf you get, sometimes the sandwich bread feels a little uneven. My biggest takeaway was that I had clue what I was doing in here. Even when they handed me the sandwiches, I didn't even know how to pay for them. Not their fault - I figure once you're a regular, every visit will be smooth and seamless.

So I'm back in the crap -hole called Chicago where is below 0 right now! And the only bright and WARM SPOT is this place right here!!!! I have never been to NYC to visit the famous KATZ deli but why go there when I can got to Chicago without waiting in that long line at KATZ. I had the DECKLE (fatty corned beef) and man was it out off this world! I can not wait to try more when I come back. Also had the mushrooms/barley soup which was ok... needs more seasoning! I would definitely RECOMMEND this place. Check this place out...you might like it!!

"We've only been here 65 years! How could you not have heard of us??" The woman at the register was warm, sweet-- and funny. "I was born in Oak Park! I'm sorry!" Don't wait 50 years to stop in to this stand out deli. I bought chopped liver, seeded rye, rugelach, and mondel bread --- and left happy. Gluten free? Not really... not much that's celiac safe...there are a few things.

We've been to Kaufman's a few times over the years and was great to see the renovations. we decided to get an afternoon snack and semi busy around 2 on a Tuesday. Quintessential Deli with all types of smoked fish, some poultry and of course a plethora of deli meats. They're known for their Bagels and bakery also. All that said, we were here for the Corned Beef. I have great memories of picking up Corned beef and pairing with bagel/cream cheese-perfection. Honorary/Specialty sandwiches are available but we like the simple approach. We ordered the regular cut Corned Beef and also some Pastrami and grabbed a loaf of Rye. Took a seat and made our own sandwiches-no condiments/cheese etc. needed. Some of the best Corned Beef ever! Pastrami hit the spot also. Friendly and helpful staff throughout. Make this stop for Chicagoland's best Corned Beef since 1963!

Been craving a good bagel sandwich for the longest and I was finally in the neighborhood to try Kaufman's for the first time! The place is decently sized inside. There's a deli, bakery, a frozen section, as well as snacks in the middle. I got there during lunch rush but the line moves quickly and there was plenty of parking. I ordered a lox sandwich on an everything bagel and all the toppings. There's limited seating inside but I just ate in my car. The bagel was jammed packed with the freshest ingredients. So delicious!! I definitely will be back to try their other specialty sandwiches!

We returned after a long hiatus. Nothing much has changed here and that's a good thing. There's nothing quite like having a great big sandwich from a good, authentic Jewish deli. The wife and I shared a regular (as opposed to deckle, lean, or super-trim) hot corned beef sandwich on rye with seeds ($13.25) and it was plenty for both of us. We also picked up a loaf of white bread for $4. It was tip-top fresh and soft on the inside but a little over crusty on the outside, but whatever. Thumbs up as always for Kaufman's!

At this time can you go I to the store or have to order ahead, just wondering as there is not menu for bagels or cream cheese on the website?

Kaufman's always offers takeout (they're a counter-style deli). I called early in the shutdown and was told no curbside and no phone orders -- I'd have to go inside to order and wait for my food.

In a world where most spots are jacking up prices while lowering quality, this place is sticking to the New York gold standard. The line is a total marathon. I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. If you're expecting this to be interchangeable with the franchised bagel places that have spread…read moreacross the country, recalibrate now. This is not that. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.

It was so classless and honestly he should be ashamed of himself. My family met there at 1:00pm, it was Sunday and they were busy. The waitress was stressed, understandably, but that doesn't excuse the rudeness that transpired. It took her 30 minutes to take our order; there's no reason for that. The kitchen was backed up, I get it, but when my mom confronted the owner at 2:05, and said we had been there for an hour, he called her a liar and yelled at her. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!!! Instead of that he could have just said that he would check on it- he literally could have said or acted any other way than the way he did! We got our food shortly after and the waitress seemed to be a little nicer at this point. The owner came over to our table as we were finishing up and I told him that he had no right to speak to my mom that way and his behavior was totally inappropriate; and it was! He kind of chuckled and gave me the "thumbs up" as he walked away. I have never quite experienced anything like this before. It's one thing to have poor service, but to have an owner behave the way he did is something else completely. We will never go back there again! Obviously if I could give this 0 stars, I would!

They offered to replace it with a different flavor and add a free schmear, but I'll admit I was super annoyed. I ended up getting some everything bagels to make some lox sandwiches with. Unfortunately the bagels were very mediocre (a step or 2 above a store bought bagel). I like my bagels chewy and moist, but these were dry and too fluffy for my taste. And weirdly enough, they were salty yet didn't have a very strong everything bagel flavor. To be fair, Chicago is severely lacking in good bagels, so not sure if I should fault Schneider's for that, or wherever they source their bagels from. Either way, I hope they get their online ordering system straightened out.
