She is a picky eater but she ate a large portion of the noodles and took what remained of the generous portion home to her dad. My daughter had noodles and broth and added a number of vegetables. She devoured most of her order. I had the katsu pork entree and I was not disappointed. The service was excellent although they are no longer using the robot for delivery to the table. Ambiance: It is a small restaurant in Evanston. You walk in and all seating is on stools. The venue is clean, well organized. Coat hooks are on the wall, soft music playing. The restrooms were clean enough. Service: The wait staff assisted quickly. The menus are already on the tables, sort of reminds me like a bar would have. Easy to read menu. I did wish that they had more options for broth, because it's pork, chicken or vegetarian. I was looking for beef and they didn't have it. It led me to only 1 choice of ramen. Food: The food we ordered was... Vegetarian ramen with a chicken broth, I had them take out the corn. There was a fish patty on top and fried pieces of tofu. I took them off. I'd give the ramen 3 stars based on other places I've eaten at before. Just average. Seaweed salad is 4 stars, I am more of a plain person and would have preferred just seaweed instead of long pieces of cucumber and strips of seafood on top. It looked nice, but seaweed is what I want. The Veggie gyoza was 3 stars. I tried one and prefer not eat have matcha flavored wraps. I have to start off this review by clarifying that I am picky when it comes to ramen. For starters, I do not like pork broth and that is the base for most of the ramen at this restaurant. Table to Stix is a cozy spot, suitable for ramen lovers in the Evanston area. There are starters which include other foods to choose from, but the main focus of the menu here is ramen. I ordered the MODERN TONKOTSU since that is one of my favorite flavors of ramen in other places. I hate to say that I did not like what I ordered. I typically order vegetarian broth when I get tonkotsu ramen, but here they said the broth was already premade which includes pork. I decided to give it a try but the flavor of the broth was so off-putting that I did not like it. I tried to eat as much of the noodles and other toppings without picking up the broth and it was okay. The toppings could have been better; for example, the mushrooms were not whole which I would have preferred since I feel like I only really got noodles, broth, and green onions in my bowl without anything else that made it more fulfilling. I don't like that there doesn't seem to be many vegetarian/vegan options so for that reason I probably would not come back here. The service was good despite it being completely full but the food does not make it worth it for me. That is not to say that I don't recommend coming here; it is evident that the restaurant is popular and liked among the majority of patrons. read more

Both of the ramen were so delicious, we literally finish every single last drop. The spicy chicken has these perfectly made brussel sprouts in them that were amazing! I added extra wild mushroom to the spicy tonkatsu and it was just perfect. Someone told me the bao buns are a must try so will definitely be back! I ordered the classic tonkotsu, with an extra vegetable korokke on the side. The pork broth for the tonkotsu was hearty and flavorful, but just a tad too salty for my taste. I loved the tender pork belly, bamboo shoots, and the ramen noodles themselves - although I wish they would have given more slices of fishcake! The korokke was crispy and juicy, and the inside potato/vegetable filling was good as well. Perfect for a cold winter day. We parked just down the block in the free 2 hour parking spots. Showed up on a Saturday around 12:20PM and was seated immediately. For two people we shared - Brussels sprouts: so yummy! Great texture and super savory umami taste. Tastes good even as leftovers. Bonito flakes on top gave the dish street food snack vibes (a good thing). - Chicken buns: good sized buns and comes as a pair. The sauce and toppings complement the fried chicken well and the buns are soft. - vegetable gyoza: edamame and potato inside. At first seemed a little plain, but it tasted great when dipped into the ramen broth. - classic tonkotsu: tasty broth, noodles had a good chew, and toppings all tasted fresh. We added an extra egg because we shared everything. This was a good amount for lunch. Could probably get away with one less dish if you don't want leftovers. read more

The Queen and I were looking for a ramen place near Evanston to have lunch one Saturday after getting our hair done. Found this place on Yelp and decided to check it out. I don't claim to be a ramen connoisseur, that would be The Queen. She travels to different places around Chicago searching out the best places to have ramen and has introduced me to this wonderful dish. Prior to hanging with The Queen for ramen, I never ate it. For me, ramen was either in a cup or in a plastic package with the small flavor packet and a lot of salt. She introduced me to real ramen and I loved it. That said, we both loved this place. It is small, but very cute. There are several high top tables and a couple of standard tables. The vibe is chilled and I loved sitting in the open window. We started off with the pan fried pork gyoza, crispy fried brussels sprouts (tossed in wafu dressing and Japanese mustard, topped w/ sesame seed and bonito fish flakes) and the Bulgogi Pork buns (marinated sliced pork belly, spicy aioli, pickled cucumber, red onions, sesame seeds and cilantro). All three were very good. I was very happy to see the buns offered as a starter...totally love those but not all ramen places have them. Next was the main dishes. The Queen loves very spicy ramen while I go for the lighter broths or the more traditional creamy ones. I ordered the Classic Tonkotsu (creamy pork base broth w/ pork belly, menma, scallions, egg, corn, bean sprouts, naruto fish cake and black garlic oil) and The Queen got the Spicy Tonkotsu (creamy spicy pork base broth w/ pork belly, spicy ground beef, menma, scallions, woodear mushrooms, egg and nori). We both got extra noodles and pork belly for both bowls. I loved the addition of the corn to mine and the broth was lovely and creamy. The pork belly was tender and melted in the mouth. The Queen loved her Spicy Tonkotsu. She said it wasn't too spicy, but she can't be trusted. She LOVES hot food, so I am guessing this dish would be hot for mere mortals. She thought the egg was particular good and got another one. I know traditional ramen places do not normally want to allow take out because it impacts the integrity of the noodle. There are places The Queen has taken me that won't even let you order ramen to go, they are just that hardcore. Of course we did not finish the ramen because the bowls are huge plus the add ons we got and the starters, so they packed everything up for us to take home. Have to say that it was delicious the next day. I guess if I had to pick something to complain about. it is the lack of wine or bubbles, but they do have beer. But that isn't enough to stop me from going back. This is definitely going to be a go to place for us for ramen and buns in the future. read more

I thought Table to Stix Ramen was an absolutely fabulous location for Friday date night! I had been craving a hearty bowl of ramen since moving to the area from Southern California, and they delivered. The Tonkotsu ramen was a bit on the saltier side, so be prepared. Besides that, though, the flavor was good and toppings were satisfying. You can also customize your bowl with additional toppings at varying prices. My one complaint would be the bar seating and high top tables. I had to sit my winter puffer on my lap for the entire meal, making for a warm lap but tiresome act to keep it from slipping to the ground. In a nutshell: ramen soup for the stomach, not exactly for the soul _________ Still no reprieve from the uncooperative weather so far, but my family found a nice getaway at Table to Stix Ramen. The interior (less spacious) follows a darker rustic design with glowing sakura lanterns hanging overhead, though a nice idea would be to hang some Japanese art or calligraphy scrolls on the walls to add to the more traditional theme. When we came in, the place was pretty packed with people, and I think they were understaffed today, so understandably the process of getting seated and relaying our orders was a little delayed. Our one waiter did his best to meet everyone's needs, and was both friendly and attentive. My mum and dad ordered the spicy miso ramen and the miso veggie ramen respectively, but I didn't try their meals so I can't comment on the taste, though judging from the dish presentation, both looked pretty good. I went original-style and chose the Classic Tonkatsu ramen, plus a side of sea-salt edamame. The secondary elements of the ramen worked well together, with the rich and creamy pork broth, the sweet corn, the soft onsen egg, and the springy bean sprouts. The actual ramen noodles themselves tasted more plain, and I'm not the biggest fan of the pork belly meat, which was tougher to chew, but when combined with the other ingredients, the ramen satisfies (though perhaps doesn't live up to the slightly hefty price of $16). A slight peeve I have is the wooden chopsticks provided; I know these are more affordable for restaurants, but am I the only one with butterfingers that never fail to break those wooden chopsticks the wrong way?? We didn't get to try the various steamed buns on the menu, but on the occasion we return to Evanston, I'll be sure to give those a go. All in all, on a windy, bone-chilling day, any of the ramen selections will do their job, and warm your stomach like there's a miniature fireplace roaring inside of you. Happy dining! read more

Best bowl of ramen I've ever had? It's okay. Cures hangover? It will do the job. After a rough night hanging with my brother in Wrigleyville, we decided to do some sight seeing around north of Chicago. But we had to try and shake the hangovers buggin'. A quick search and Table to Stix came up. Looked to have what we were looking for (ramen on a cold, wet day) and was in the area we wanted to explore, so we went for it. Street parking was a few bucks as I recall and pay by meter / pay box. Once in, no issue grabbing a table around lunch time on a Tuesday. I did the classic tonkotsu while my brother did the spicy tonkotsu ramen. All around, I'd say everything was just okay. The broth was definitely creamier than a regular fatty pork based tonkotsu broth I'd prefer. Noodles were aite. And corn reminded me too much of canned corn. While the flavors were good overall, I'm kind of indifferent about it. After tax and tip, you're looking at just under $20 for a bowl with no extra add ons. Would I come back? Probably not. Came here for the first time because my friend was craving ramen and this was her go to spot. Small little restuarant with only a few high top tables and 2 regular tables. I'm not a big fan of high top tables becuase there are no spaces to put our belongings and there's also no back support. The waiters were nice and friendly. The menu wasn't a huge selection, but enough for my liking. We ordered the takoyaki, chicken bao, and I ordered the spicy tonkatsu. We were a group of 3 people and they were able to make 3 bao for us instead of the usual serving of 2. That was very nice and considerate of them. The apetizers were all yummy and I would recommend them to anyone who comes here. I would have to say that I was dissapointed at the level of spice in the spicy tonkatsu. I even asked for more spicy sauce on the side but I guess they forgot, so I used the chili oil, which helped a little bit. I have been to other ramen places and enjoyed their spicy soup base way more. I do love spicy foods so my soup base standards are pretty high. Other than the food, my friend and boyfriend ordered beers. Just had to mention how cute the bottle and can was. They did have a variety of alcoholic beverages. 2nd time dining here. First time I went when it was fairly new, on a weekend for lunch. We were the only table there. Due to my 1st experience, I didn't think this place was going to be packed on a Thursday night. I was craving for ramen noodles but I didn't have time to drive to the city. I happened to be in Evanston area and thought of this place as nearest place. Thursday night had a different ambiance than a weekend lunch. The restaurant was a full house with many people who looked like they got off work. I sat by the bar with a peek to the kitchen. Service was really good. I was very disappointed at the ramen noodles because it didn't taste authentic. The noodles weren't cooked to the perfect chewiness and the broth tasted like it was from instant packet, although it probably isn't because the kitchen had a big pot of broth ready. I'd rather wait and have authentic ramen elsewhere than to eat here and not be satisfied of my ramen craving. read more
