I come here for my quick lunch breaks and I like their ramen and rice bowl selections. I always get the fried oyster as an appetizer. My order always arrives quick. Serving is big and I usually pack the rest that I can't finish. The only downside for me is that there's only two workers and the cook is busy preparing food but the other one should be more diligent when it comes to customers needing water refills or answering inquiries. Walked in to a tidy, clean restaurant and we were the only party there. The decor is nice and fits the Japanese restaurant theme. To order food, you scan the code and order/pay for your food. Good selection of ramen, pho, don, and others. I ordered the chicken ramen. It was good. Lots of toppings: eggs, seaweed, corn, bean stalks, green onion. Chicken chunks were really big. The decor in here is cute! They play club music though which was a little odd at 4pm. Also they have Kleenex at the table instead of napkins but whatever. Good service and good food! read more

**3.5 stars** I felt like I was whisked away once I stepped foot into Ton-Ichi. The ceiling is lined with many colorful umbrellas while the walls were plastered with a backdrop of Japan. There was calming music playing in the background. Hubby and I both ordered the tonkotsu rich garlic ramen (pork broth, pork chashu, wakame seaweed, non- spicy bean sprouts, green onion, whole seasoned egg, narutomaki, bamboo, fresh garlic, black garlic oil, corn, nori seaweed, thick noodle). We shared an order of chicken karaage which was juicy and crispy. The ramen was flavorful and all the ingredients paired well together but the broth was too salty for my taste. I usually enjoy drinking tonkotsu ramen broth but the broth was making me thirsty. The egg was a bit overcooked but the thinly sliced chashu was decent. Ton-Ichi is a nice addition to Evanston and we'll be back to try other menu items! read more

This ramen was delicious!! We got the spicy vegan ramen and it was soooo good. It had all kinds of toppings like crunchy onion, broccoli, tofu, corn, spring onion, and some others I can't remember. Honestly, I don't know how to describe. There are few reasons I would rank this low. 1.) wagyu beef ramen. I asked for a recommendation and I couldn't believe he was constantly trying to ask me to get wagyu ramen. So I did try it and it was just awful. They didn't get the right topping and I had just bunch of broccolis... 2.) the noodles were not firm and it tasted extremely cheap. 3.) tip? When you enter, you are greeted with QR code where we are told to order with our phone. But the funny thing is we are supposed to make payment before receiving our food which is fine. Ton Ichi is a charming addition to Evanston's Asian restaurant options! The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely with a lot of seating + a wall of little messages on wooden plaques that customers can add to. They are also open past 12am -- I can see this becoming a winter quarter late night favorite for many students! The food is reasonably priced (~$14 for a bowl of ramen) and although they might not make the most flavorful broth, I found my tonkatsu classic ramen satisfying (w very tender and fatty pork slices!). The 'Japanese cheesecake' felt more like a sponge cake with some whipped cream on top - definitely didn't feel freshly made - but was still tasty. I came here alone and ordered the Spicy Toni Ichi Ramen. The broth and noodles were delicious and all of the toppings were well seasoned, well cooked, and generally went really well together. The place was small, cute, and decorative. There are options to either order with a waiter or to order by phone through the chow app. I really enjoyed the connection between Kung Fu Tea (I ordered a milk tea) and the restaurant. Very pretty place with nice ambiance. Ordered two starters and three bowls of ramen. The starters were pretty standard: takoyaki and chicken buns. The ramen however was lacking in flavor and complexity. The noodles weren't a good texture: chewy, but not in a good way. The broth was watery, and the garlic in my garlic tonkatsu was raw and pungent, not well incorporated to the rest of the dish. The meat was ok, but not enough to save the dish. Overall, I would probably go to one of the other ramen spots in Evanston: hokkaido or table to stix. read more

Ordered on DoorDash and it came pretty quick, around $17, which is pretty decent compared to the other places around. The portion is pretty big as well. It had good garlic flavor and was very flavorful and the pork was thick and tender. Would definitely order again. read more

I visited this restaurant on a Friday night with friends and brought our children. We believe that this restaurant might be in partnership with the Kung Fu Tea next door, but we're not certain. We were the only people dining in the restaurant on a Friday evening. We had some issues using the self order on their website. The menu had a decent amount of options to choose from for appetizers and ramen, and there were some Kung Fu Tea bubble teas on the menu. Be advised that there is no kids' menu nor the ability to order a custom bowl. We had the fried oysters, edamame, and octopus as starters. They were not bad. The overall consensus for the ramen bowls we ordered is that they were good but nothing outstanding. My daughter likes to order chili oil at other ramen restaurants, but this one didn't have chili oil on the menu. They did have sriracha on the tables, however. I will say the service was good. Best-tasting Ramen I've found in Evanston. However, the service is nearly non-existent and the hours are a mess. All of my visits were in the afternoon on weekdays. 2 of the 3 times I've visited I've left without food. My first time was great, the food was delicious and my group were dying to return. The second time I was there there was a glitch with the ordering system. Everyone's order went through but mine. By the time we realized this it was far too late to re-order. This isn't the restaurant's fault entirely, but the ordering system is bad. The third time I walked in and ordered only to later realize that the restaurant was completely empty. It was bizarre. I had already submitted my order and was heading to the bathroom when I noticed the place was deserted. No one responded when I called out. According to the sign on the door it was active business hours. I tried calling the restaurant's contact number and got no answer. I tried contacting Chowbus (ordering system) and they couldn't refund my order because it was placed in the restaurant. I called the restaurant and got nowhere with staff. Like I said earlier, the ordering system is bad and ultimately the restaurant's service is bad. You don't order from a server, but have to scan a QR code at the table. The system is laggy and if a group is entering their order at the same time there's a chance someone's items won't be properly added to the cart. The hours are inconsistent. I asked an employee if they were open Tuesday and they couldn't answer. I also walked in the last time to a completely empty (but unlocked) restaurant. It's a shame because I loved their ramen, but probably won't go back because there are so many problems with basic service. Edit: I received a refund for my order so I added a star. Best ramen in Evanston, and it's not even close. The kimchi ramen is 10/10, I order it every time I come in and I'm here at least twice a week, it's never tasted different, talk about consistency. [I am a ranter. So, take it with a grain of salt] They said they open at 11am. But no one was there. One person who came late just opened the door for me at 11:20am. Gave me a cup of lukewarm tap water on a translucent green cup that looks like algae. Really?! Then, I waited to be served since this is my first time dining in this place. Took forever. Finally, I stood up and went to the counter. There, the person told me to sit because I will be served. I ordered pork buns ($7), takoyaki ($7), Ton spicy ramen ($15), and Japanese sponge cake ($5). The buns were underwhelming. They used cold, old, and thinly sliced pork belly meat. It even smelled a bit. They rolled up those 2-3 slices of cold pork, smothered them with bbq sauce, and covered their problem with leafy greens and tons of avocado. Wow... Then the takoyaki. Small pieces of squid that are nowhere to be found. Smothered again with sauce to cover up the ridiculous price. The ramen... hmmm... the broth is somewhat acceptable. I think that by this point, they realized that I am not happy. So, they dumped a mountain of bean spouts on my ramen bowl. Not a good idea. The meat though... FML... the same meat they used for the cold pork buns... The Japanese cheesecake is just old, sponge cake with hershey chocolate syrup and whipped cream - tools to cover up what is not. I am so happy to find the best Ramen with authentic flavors, perfect taste and does not taste too salty. I love ordering from them on DoorDash and I can't wait to dine in soon.
