tantan ramen
Giovanni D.

Great spot for ramen, noodles are thin and the broth is very rich. It really lives up to its nameI gave 4 stars because I find the broth tad salty. The Takoyaki and Gyoza are just average, not home made. I heard other locations have more menu options. I will still go back for a good ramen. Service is exceptional. Everybody works as a team. The space is small, there are few tables but I prefer to sit at the counter to see all the ramen preparations.

Tried this place with my brother and some family friends while in town for work. I am a ramen fanatic, so I had to try it. This place reminds me of some of the small ramen shops in Japan. We were welcomed by all of the staff as we entered. The waitress was super friendly and made some awesome recommendations. We ordered gyoza to start and it came out fairly quick. They were crispy on the bottom in all the right ways. The waitress insisted we eat them right away because they were better fresh. She was right. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and my brother got the regular miso ramen with extra menma. The spicy miso was so good. It was spicy and warming with all the fixings. The egg on top was perfectly cooked and so satisfying. My brother really enjoyed his miso ramen. When he ordered the extra menma (marinated bamboo shoots) they legit gave him a small soup bowl of extra. Talk about getting your moneys worth. Overall this was a great spot with good service. Was it the best I have ever had, no. But I would go again. Give this place a try when you are in Glenview.

The place is really a 3.5 but Yelp doesn't do half star reviews so I'm defaulting to a generous 4. There are a few outstanding ramen spots in the Chicagoland area that I'm aware of and most of them are out of my way with most locations in the Northwest suburbs and Chicago. Oftentimes I'm not willing to go the distance so finding a decent Ramen spot less than a half an hour from the crib is a challenge. Ramen House Shinchan is within driving distance limits and with all the glowing reviews, I had to try them out. I've gone twice (both dine-in and take out) and I wouldn't say this is the best Ramen I've had but in fairness it's also not the worst. Service is courteous, often times prompt and their Ramen is decent. Typically, when I order ramen, I get the Tonkotsu. The broth is good and the noodles are nice and firm. The pork is sweeter than what I'm used to having. Sweet pork is not my preference and unfortunately the meat was overcooked on both visits. The price point redeems everything else which ensures a decent meal for value. My parents were with me during my dine-in visit and they chose to skip the ramen menu and ordered an entree (Curried Pork Katsu). I had a few bites. The pork meat was tender and I really enjoyed the crispiness of the fry. The curry sauce was nice and creamy and the pickled red pepper worked well with the hot steamed rice. The place is busy on the weekends so expect a wait at a table. Not sure if they do reservations but I would secure one if you can. Parking was a breeze with a decent sized lot shared with the Jong Boo market.

My friends and I came by for dinner one night around 8pm. This location is located right by Joong Boo market and has plenty of parking outside. When we walked in the only seating that was available was at the ramen bar. But another table got up shortly after so we moved down so our party of 5 could hear everyone better. Shortly after we sat we ordered our food. I ended up getting the pork katsu with egg and my husband got the spicy tamago ramen. The portions are huge! The pork katsu had a never ending bottom and is plenty to share with two people. The pork katsu is crispy and the egg is more like a runny egg omelette and it was delish. A simple yet super flavorful dish. Drinks wise they didn't have very many option but did have a few Asian juice beverages. We stuck with water for this experience. They have clean bathrooms, but the only thing I had feedback on was that the soap dispenser wasn't working, and the only one that was working there's a giant label that says please do not use. Because I needed to wash my hands I used it but it was a weird oil (probably why I shouldn't be using it.) But thankfully they had plenty of hand sanitizer. All in all, we had a good experience and I would come back to try other things. This restaurant is family friendly.

I'm so happy the Glenview location opened up. Best ramen in Chicagoland. Been going to the Palatine and Vernon Hills locations for years. I go to one of the locations regularly. The ramen tastes the same as the OG, Palatine location. Portions are generous. I noticed yesterday they added a sushi menu. Service is great. The space is small so seating is limited. They also do carry out.

Finally was able to try their Ramen and Rice bowl. We ordered the Shio Ramen and Katsu Don. Shio Ramen was very tasty. They also have the kind of noodles that i like egg noodles so its a big plus! I just wish they had a side of corn. But still really good. Katsu don was good. The meat was a tad bit dry but i also think its missing a bit more sauce. Karaage was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Service was great! The place is a bit small so it does get busy. I will definitely be coming back to try more stuff on the menu. Happy eating!

Food: Tamago Taiwan, I enjoyed it but my friend was not a fan of the egg. Great service, quick and kind staff. Parking was easy and we had no wait time on a Saturday evening, which was nice. Inside was clean and same with the bathroom. Would go again!

10/08/23 - Tis the time of year where I crave a nice hot bowl of ramen is to fill up your stomach w/something delicious & hot. Ramen House Shinchan does that it's located in the shopping center w/Joong Boo in Niles. The entry for Ramen House is located on the backside opposite Milwaukee Ave next door to Paris Baguette. I've really grown to love the Tonkatsu Ramen broth for is rich creamy texture. The broth is cooked for 48 hours to get the full flavor from the pork bones. Absolutely delicious

Spicy miso ramen

Friendly and Attentive waitstaff. Limited seating. I quite enjoyed my spicy miso ramen, though the noodles could have cooked just a little more. My husband was less impressed with the tonkatsu ramen which he said was fatty and without depth of flavor. I would go back and try more of the menu.

We came here for dinner on a Friday night around 6:30 with a party of 7 (6 adults and a toddler). They don't reservations and you have to go there in person if you want to put your name on the wait-list, but the interior is pretty small and we had a large party so that's understandable. They were able to comfortably accommodate us though after about a 15-20 minute wait. The inside is clean with bar seating available, but no real waiting area so if you just put your name down and you have a larger party, you might as well chill at one of the neighboring shops until they text you that your table is ready. We ordered a chicken karaage for everyone and it was nice and juicy with a generous portion. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen just to see how they do with the standard dish. It was a little saltier than I expected, but the eggs and noodles were perfectly cooked. The meat was a little on the dry side though and could be more flavorful. I still liked the broth though and took home the rest to use with some noodles we have at home. My wife got the Tamago Taiwan Ramen and she enjoyed it. I tried some and it was tasty but a little spicy from the pork, but I also have low spice tolerance so there's that. We ordered a BBQ Don for our toddler and it's also a generous portion, so I ended up finishing it for her (which I was planning on doing anyway, haha). It was also good and I would consider getting that again next time. The servers were also very attentive and helpful and kept our water topped off. This place is definitely one of the better ramen restaurants in the area so we're glad they opened one up here! We'll definitely be back!

Was happy to see that they are expanding. They opened in a perfect location, next to two of my most visited establishments. I came late, right before they closed but got seated. I went with tonkotsu ramen and Karaage chicken. The chicken was awesome as I had at Palatine location. The ramen was good as well, rich and bold broth. Was told there been open for a month. I wish them all the best in their new location!!

I've been eyeing this spot and waiting for it to open everytime I'm by Joong Boo. Finally made it in on a Thursday evening and I was slightly worried that it might be busy for the dinner rush. We lucked out and was able to get the only table for 2 that was available. Their menu was simple but had so many options. We ended up doing the small Karaage to try as well as the gyoza. Both were excellent and I might have filled up on them before my ramen arrived. I ended up getting the tamago Taiwan ramen which was a creamy eggy broth that reminded me of egg drop soup. It's my ideal broth consistency and what I try to do whenever I make my own instant ramen at home. I'm pleased that they have this option here because it's way more flavorful and elevated than my instant version at home. I also saw that they have rice bowl dishes so I'm looking forward to eating my way through this menu.

This is now my updated review as a purposefully came back for a dinner on a Friday night. You should try to make a reservation because on this particular Friday night they actually were full. And you can do it online through their website. The dinner menu is significantly different from the lunch menu. It is much more expensive with a lot more choices, especially as it pertains to the sushi and the cold as well as hot appetizers. You also have the option during dinner to order a sushi tray whether it is a Nigiri sashimi or maki tray. And if you sit there and do the math if you order the trays, they're a lot cheaper, but you have to like what the options are on the tray. You can tell by the pictures we ordered quite a bit of food as usual for dinner. Everything was so super fresh and delicious as usual. Everything came out with really good timing as well. We had a completely different waitress and a team of of servers this evening and all of them were absolutely friendly and helpful and attentive. This is got to be my new go to for authentic Japanese. You can also tell because while we were there the patrons coming in were Japanese in majority. I cannot say enough about this place being amazing with incredible quality fish, and a great menu.

After communicating this to staff, they passed it around and confirmed it was indeed spoiled and took it off our bill, which we appreciated. They can get busy and with not too many hands on deck, food and service can come out slowly. It's understandable to a degree, but it does feel like servers rarely come around (through the whole dining experience, our water was never refilled once or even asked to be) and overall service seems subpar at best. Ambiance is great. They definitely have that Japanese izakaya vibe. Go to Sankyu if you have time on your hands and order menu items that are likely ordered often and you will have a 4-5 star experience.

There's also discrepancy in their menu and what they actually have available as it seems they also display items for the the cafe next door. We happened to arrive during happy hour so some menu items were discounted. They also have a complimentary salad bar. We ordered chicken karaage, potstickers, salmon avocado sushi, and I had the katsu sandwich. All the food items we ordered came separately over a span of 20+ minutes, with the sandwich arriving last and cold. Not only did the sandwich come on a cold sourdough bread, the meat also had an unusual texture and so I ended up throwing it out. The other items we ordered were lacking in flavor. The chicken karaage was prepared well but it had no flavor. I'm regret spending money at this establishment.

So we got out of the car and saw someone pull up in front of the restaurant and jump out at 11:59. As soon as the door was unlocked at 12pm, this customer went in, and a few others after them. This is a small joint, and it was already half full by the time we ordered, then sat down (they told us the table at which to sit). I didn't know, but asked, and found out that a salad bar and miso soup are also included. The salad bar was pretty decent, with fresh vegs. They even had French fried onions (my guilty pleasure) and a very good House dressing (ginger vinaigrette). The portions are enormous. The couple next to us got ramen, and it was practically overflowing. We ordered takoyaki (too much food, we didn't need). I had the Pork Katsu bowl and my companion had a Katsu curry. I wished I had ordered the curry -- it looked dark and rich and thick like pudding (not like a boxed curry). They also gave us a bonus piece of chicken karaage which was so large and crispy. I think I'll get the curry next time, or the ramen. We originally came because we were going to get a karaage sando, but get the curry.
