    Rice-Bokki
    Yining D.

Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 3/5 I came here because the yelp ratings were high, expecting some really good Korean food. The menu was plentiful with a lot of fusion options between sushi and Korea dishes. I got the rice bokki and bk roll to share with my mom. The prices were a little higher than other places, but the food tasted pretty good and it was filling. The rice bokki is sweet and spicy with an egg, fish cakes, and rice cakes. The bk roll was a monster, filled with shrimp tempura, beef bulgogi and spicy pork. If you don't finish the piece in one bite, then it's falling apart. Service was friendly but really slow. They didn't have too many people working so there would be no one up front sometimes because they're fulfilling take out orders. I had to go up and ask for a to-go container and our bill. The restaurant feels a bit cramped but there's lots of tables in a row for parties of 4 or less. There's a lot of decorations that makes the restaurant a bit cluttered. And they have kpop videos playing in the background which is fun. It's a good place to get quick, take out Korean food. But there's definitely better restaurants around if you're craving Korean food.

ordered via grubhub delivery. as a korean, i was pleasantly surprised by the taste as i had low expectations. my husband got the bulgogi bowl and i got the salmon poke bowl. the salmon quality wasn't great and rice was slightly dry but otherwise tasty. i finished my bowl in probably 10 minutes max. my husband enjoyed his bowl even though he had ordered the spicy pork. overall a good experience!

I've been obsessed with Korean food over the past few years. And this place doesn't disappoint! I ordered online so didn't eat inside, but it was very clean and cute inside the restaurant. The seating seems to be very limited, but there were a few options. When I picked up my order, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was amazing! I ordered a couple of items that were more fusion than traditional Korean but they were very good. The Bulgogi specifically was well seasoned and delicious. This was a great experience and I look forward to going back!

06/15/24 - Today we went back to take advantage of our Groupon purchase. We bought $30 worth of food for $15. This time we both ordered poke bowls. I ordered the salmon poke bowl & my wife ordered the tuna poke bowls. They were both delicious Both were served over a bed of rice w/masago (fish roe), shredded crab meat, lettuce, roasted garlic, diced cucumbers, diced green peppers & cilantro. Of course my wife's had tuna & mine had salmon. We mixed it up so all the ingredients could be blended & eaten (like halo halo). I added hot sauce to mine. Awesome meal very filling and nutritious. I love this place they have a huge variety of Korean food options & is absolutely worth checking out. I just wish I lived closer to Arlington Heights, but I will definitely be back again

For me, this restaurant is a mixed bag with some elements to like and some not to like as much. Outside of the food, the restaurant is somewhat small but just large enough to accommodate some tables for dine in. Given the size of the restaurant, the menu variety is actually pretty good with lots of options ranging from fried chicken to poke bowls to bibimbap to kimbop and other Korean favorites. Service is friendly and the decor is appropriate for the restaurant. For me, the food is not the best and not the worst. Portion sizes skew a little on the smaller side, though prices are not much different from competitors nearby. This also doesn't come with ban-chan that you'd get from many other Korean restaurants nearby with your meal. The ingredients do seem to be pretty good, but not really any different from the large number of competitors nearby on Milwaukee Ave. With that said, the flavor of the food was fine -- like the salmon poke bowl was done fairly good, though fish pieces could've been a bit bigger. The bulgogi was tender and lightly sweet, but not the best version of this that I've had. Presentation overall was pretty good. Overall, a solid performer in the category. Good for a reasonably priced hot meal if you'd doing something nearby in the area like visiting the Wheeling Town Center.

I can't believe I haven't tried this hidden gem until now! Kimbop is located right off Elmhurst Rd (83) and McHenry Rd. If you see La Michoacána then you are right there - KIMBOP is located just a couple steps from there. Kimbop is a small, warm, and inviting restaurant with delicious food! I have been craving kimbop rolls (Korean rolls) with beef bulgogi and this place hits the spot! My roll was packed with fresh ingredients, juicy and plentiful beef bulgogi, and rolled tightly together. I can make a meal just out of this alone. I also ordered the bibimbop bowl with bulgogi and it's another winner! Just the right amount of rice, fresh vegetables, plenty of meat, and topped with a sunny side egg (they ask how you want your egg prepared)! It was one delectable bite after another! Now... as I'm craving Korean food, specifically kimbop rolls and bibimbop, I couldn't resist ordering their wings! Korean style wings are a food group on its own! Don't ever compare it to BWW or any of those wing places. Korean wings are crispy, juicy, tender, crispy, covered in sauce and yet still sooooooo crispy crunchy! I haven't found a place that makes crispy, crunchy AND juicy wings covered in the sweet and spicy sauce until NOW! I'm super happy I ordered 12 wings because hubs and I devoured them! Donald really steered me good with his recommendation of the sauce. He was friendly and welcoming. He's really proud of the restaurant and the food, and rightly so! Craving Korean? Kimbop is the place to go and you won't regret it!

I've been here several times and must say that the food is extremely hit or miss. It's mainly a takeout place though there are tables available for dine in. Our experiences have been strictly take out only. I'm all for supporting small businesses but I hope Kimbop will improve with constructive criticism. Let's start positive with the good. Items I would get again on the menu are definitely the Kimbop (I've enjoyed all 4 variations I've tried), the yakisoba, and the rice cake skewers (these are addicting). Our most recent trip was extremely disappointing. Fried rice was sad, had a few pieces of carrots, no scrambled eggs, and had zero flavor. Couldn't even taste the soy sauce. Bibimpop was more of a joke - a bed of rice with stir fried cabbage/mushroom on top. Again zero flavors. Idk how they can get these basic dishes so wrong Food aside, I would say their service needs the most help. The food is NEVER ready when we come (we usually order on phone 15-30 min before arriving). I see other delivery drivers also having to wait for their orders. I feel that their food is also not consistent in quality; sometime sesame seeds are sprinkled other times not; Sometimes the dish comes with a fried egg other times not. They also seem to have lots of trouble with their register -- there has been issues with payment each time we come. They also failed to refund to us an item and they forgot to include in the order; we didn't find out until we got home, spoke to someone on the phone who said well get a refund and never did. When we came back for a second visit, the manager had to resolve the issue for us. I may come back just for their Kimbop or the rice cake skewer appetizers if I choose to ignore the bad services. I think there are better food options in the area that won't be as frustrating.

Kimbop recently opened, and I wanted to try it out. You order at the counter, and the food is brought out to your table. I ordered the beef bulgogi bowl, and my husband ordered the salmon poke bowl. The portion size was smaller than I was expecting for the price. The food was good but was fairly average in taste. In an area that has many above average Asian restaurants to choose from, Kimbop doesn't stand out.

    Deboef G.

The kimbap here is so fresh and flavorful. The rice is perfectly seasoned, and the seaweed has a nice crisp texture. I tried the beef kimbap, and the combination of tender beef, crunchy vegetables, and a hint of sesame oil made every bite delicious. It is a great snack or light meal, and I will definitely be coming back for more.

i've been here a handful of times now and always have such a pleasant experience. service: friendly and prompt. they are quick to greet you at the door and offer help with any questions. there is a self serve water station towards the middle of the restaurant restaurant is small and not too many tables but each time i've gone there wasn't many people. food: everything i order here is so good. they have a very extensive meal and also have added more it seems -bulgogi fries: must add the kimchi. it's so good! ask for no ketchup though.. felt like it would have been better without it -assortment of makis and kimbops: i can't choose, whichever one ive gotten has been so good -fried chicken: super crunchy! everything about my meals have been so good! highly recommend!

We absolutely love this restaurant. The appetizers were hot, crispy and delicious. The kimbop reminded me of my childhood and are something even my kids enjoy with me now! The rolls were all delicious and fresh tasting. We have ordered out from them many times and their food is always on point.

    Kimchi Hibachi Fried Rice

Wings are thoroughly sauced and yet the breading is still thick and crispy. KBBQ flavor has a nice mix of sweet and spicy. Kimchi fried rice and yakisoba came in generous portions and were both terrific. Definitely recommend the wings and fried rice. Service was quick and courteous. Cozy joint with excellent food.

To clear things up about their dining area, they have 2 small tables outside and 1 small and 2 big tables inside. Small tables - 2 chairs. Big tables - 4 chairs. On weekdays, you don't need to make a reservation. On the weekends due to their limited dine in area, I would recommend a reservation to be safe. You can make a reservation through Google/Yelp or phone call. Parking is easy since it's in a strip mall. There is also a 3% charge if you use plastic. Just a note, I tried looking at their food pictures on their website, but it kind of runs slow. Sometimes it would freeze. I think they need to fix it. I would return here to try other items. I would highly recommend ordering off their Malaysian menu instead of the miscellaneous. Don't order orange chicken or General Tao's chicken. Very cringe because you can get that literally anywhere. Get the Malaysian food because it's hard to find in Illinois. The owner is very sweet and the service is attentive. We ordered lor bak, nasi lemak, Hainanese chicken rice, hokkien mee, and kuih talam. Just a FYI, the portions are very generous. For 2 people, I would recommend ordering 2 dishes. Prices are reasonable for what you get. A pot of tea is $6. -lor bak 5 - I highly recommend this appetizer. It has crispy pork sausage with shrimp fritters, beancurd, and cucumber. It comes with two sauces. Everything was delicious. -nasi lemak 5 - I love the chicken rendang. The meat is very tender and it has a deep flavor. You can taste the spices that went into it. -Hainanese chicken rice 3.5 - I gave Penang Malaysian Cuisine a 4 because the rice was delicious. HD's version, the rice was not as moist and flavorful. The chicken was not bad, it's about the same as Penang's. It could be a bit more succulent without the sauces. -hokkien mee 4 - this won't be as tasty as in Malaysia. I liked the big pieces of shrimp, an adequate amount of sliced pork and hard boiled egg. The broth is still very good. If it's your first time having this, I still recommend it. -kuih talam 5 - I would suggest this if you like pandan. It's not sweet. It has a soft and bouncy texture.

Staff is attentive and knowledgeable, and the whole experience feels polished. Drinks are well-crafted, and the patio (when open) adds a whole extra layer to the experience. That said, this is where the missing fifth star lives. Shakou can be a little inconsistent. Some visits feel like a five-star experience, others land closer to "really good, but not unforgettable." A few dishes might lean a bit too sweet or not quite balance the flavors, and during busier times, things can feel a little rushed or loud. But even with that, it's still an easy recommendation. This is a great spot when you want sushi that feels a little more upscale without going full fine dining. It's stylish, flavorful, and usually delivers a really solid experience. Sat at the first table outside the restaurant, underneath the awning with a bird's nest overhead chirping the entire time. Essentially in my opinion, when you make a reservation somewhere, you don't really expect to be seated in probably the worst location they have to offer. Food was pretty decent. They unfortunately don't do reservations for a group as small as 2 people; but for a bigger group, call ahead. The inside had an elegant aesthetic with four rotary lines all connected to the back kitchen area. One is sat at a table with an ipad to view the menu, ingredients in each item, and lists out beverages you can order. The table comes with chopsticks and soy sauce but one can call the attendant for utensils, water, or your check. It's $3.69 for every plate grabbed from the rotary. Once you finish the plate, you discard it into the table slot. The ipad tracks your plate count and for every 10 finished, you get a gachapon toy from the machine above the central rotary track. If you like wasabi or ginger, no worries as these are constantly in rotation to grab. Our favorites of the evening were the vegetable rolls, crab rangoon, tempura sweet potato roll, and the different nigiri's (umami beef, spicy kani, seared scallop, etc). If you don't see a roll on the rotary you wanted, check the ipad as you may be able to order for no upcharge. The nice robot on the top track will bring your dish right out to the table! If you're looking for a fun way to try new sushi rolls or give kids an interactive sushi experience, this is the spot to go! Tip: They have a punch card for every $25 spent. Place is on the end of a shopping plaza. Not much to see but it looked clean and inviting. Staff was kind and explained the process. This place functions like I would expect. Each plate is a set price, you pick what you want and feed the plate into a chute on the side for your tally. If you don't find something on the conveyor belt, then you get a tablet and put it in to be shuttle delivered to your table. It's very cool to watch and be a part of. So that aspect was fun. The sushi was okay but heavily Americanized. Lots of heavily sauced and beef options. No seasoning of the rice, Tamago had torched spicy mayonnaise on top but was cold, some rolls were composed well but others were kind of bland. We did have a volcano roll that was not great. Still had to pay for the plate, which was not fun. Thankfully not much got wasted. A rotary sushi place is a gimmick in of itself. It's a good operating model, but it's a rarity in the states so there is that appeal to try something new. Then there's the plate game, if you feed ten plates into the chute you get a capsule prize. Then you get a frequent diner card that if you pay 25 dollars you get a stamp and if you get 10 stamps you get to spin the prize wheel. I appreciate game systems, but this place skirts that edge of too many. As a restaurant, it's neat to try and not too bad on price for decent sushi. There's a lot going on, but if you focus on the food then it's a nice place to have a bite.
