Little Wok near Evanston/Skokie is legit a hole in the wall. The food is incredibly tasty and amazing. Service is always super fast. They have the Chinese & Japanese menu. You can simply have egg drop soup & sesame chicken or Miso soup & California Roll. They also serve up boba along with the variety of flavors. My personal favorite is watermelon. Be on the lookout for their lunch specials which a bargain deal, definitely more for less. I would most definitely be coming back to Little Wok. read more

This is our go to for Chinese. A favorite in our house; however, tonight we ordered our regular orange chicken and fried rice with veggie egg rolls. The chicken was very dry and overcooked, which is not typical. I called and explained the situation and that there was no way I could make it back over there this evening for a replacement. I requested a credit to our account for the chicken and was denied that option and told I could only pick it up tonight; which I again explained was not possible. I was also told from now on I should request that the chicken be fried soft which we have NEVER had to do and it is always perfect. I will admit that I am a frequent user of Yelp, but rarely a reviewer. Today I was moved to put the time and effort into a review due the travesty that was our delivery order from Little Wok. We live in Evanston and have a plethora of wonderful Asian restaurants to choose from. Today we decided to take a break from our usuals and try this place. What should have given me caution right away was the vastness of their menu. They have Chinese dishes, Thai, and many traditional Japanese dishes, in addition to a full sushi menu. That's a lot to take on. I decided to try a bit from all three styles. Here is the rundown: 1. Shrimp Tempura - the shrimp was overly fried and at the same time, greasy. The zucchini it came with was as hard as a hockey puck. I could hit it on my table and hear it reverberate. 2. Teriyaki Chicken Baked Rice - this had ZERO teriyaki taste. Teriyaki has some sweetness, but this has absolutely none. It did taste vaguely of a garlic sauce. The chicken was dry. Very disappointing. 3. Tom Kha soup - right away I knew we were in trouble, as the color was blindingly white. It was pure coconut milk that was drowned in spice from those little red Thai peppers. 9/10 on spice. Inedible. 4. Potstickers. These were mostly sticky dough with a little meat inside. 5. Szechuan Wontons - these were absolutely saturated with Szechuan peppercorns, to where one bite annihilated your mouth with numbing spice. Very off-putting and incredibly dry at the same time. 6. Salmon Nigiri. We ordered a couple of pieces of salmon for my daughter. It looked almost gray. Decided not to risk tasting it after everything else. We called the restaurant after receiving our order to detail these issues. The person who answered said the manager was not in and that it's "all a matter of taste". Best Asian food!! The miso soup actually had pieces of tofu and green!! The egg rolls were filled and super crispy. I admit, this used to be my favorite sushi place in 2016. I gave it 5 star review and kept it until today. Now it is basically average sushi (depending), with 5 diamond prices. on April 6th, I bought 6 salmon hand rolls at 42 dollars, and every single one of them had stale seaweed wrap on it, and even the salmon was iffy. I don't know why they switched the tasty rice paper wrap to seaweed in the first place, but this was just rubbery trash. When I bought six of those, a mongolian delight, and a hot and sour soup, After tax, delivery and tip, it was nearly $100. 100 dollars for disgusting food loaded with so many chemical (e.g. MSG) my mom had an allergic reaction like never before where her air pipes were shutting and she was freaking out. We luckily didn't need to hospitalize her because it went away after a few minutes and she had to throw away the food, that was definitely two occasions that won't be forgotten. We also tend to get swelling when we eat here, which is a common trait for fast food. I can still say, that maybe for other maki rolls, and sushi and sashimi, this can still pass as your average sushi joint, there is no way I will ever order from here again. I am a creature of habit and I tend to only stick to what I like, but they have an extensive menu so I plan on being adventurous and trying new things off the menu. I've never written a review before, but I feel I need to do it as a service to others. Nowhere on their online menu does it list the ingredients of their eggrolls. Be advised there is also no warning except this on their website- Consumer Advisory: Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions.- Their egg rolls contain PEANUT BUTTER. My son had a severe allergic reaction from ingesting several bites. Fortunately, we recognized what was happening and were able to handle the situation. But I had to google the restaurant and other reviews to figure out that there was peanut butter in them. When I called to complain that there was no listing of peanut butter for the egg rolls and inquire why would you even put peanut butter in an eggroll the response was, "Well, that's your fault that you didn't tell us about an allergy." There was no apology. I told them that I was only calling to inform them of what had happened and that they should note it before something terrible happened. They were not helpful in the least. There are no other peanuts on the menu, which is why we ordered from there in the first place but NEVER AGAIN. read more

This place still gives me a headache. The food is so good that I don't want to give it up (specifically the Thai fried rice with tofu and the tiramisu cake), but the service is so mediocre. (That horseradish, or whatever the bland green stuff is, is NOT wasabi and not spicy. Skip their sweet potato maki rolls altogether. Pride Sushi & Thai have better maki rolls. But their rice is undefeated.) Still, when you have sit-down service, they always look like they can take you or leave you, and the bartender doesn't know how to make basic drinks. I asked for a whiskey sour (a very simple drink to make). She refused and insisted I pick something from the menu instead of actually looking up how to make it. I've only been in here to sit down a handful of times. They hand you the water to pour yourself, which I actually like, and then just stand around occasionally staring at you or dozing off until you leave. Choose delivery. This place is serviceable if you live in Evanston area and you want something slightly better than say Panda Express or Chinese food from the frozen section of a random grocery store...This place gets the 2 stars for thier sushi which they have a big selection of and it's done nicely. As for the Chinese,Korean,Japanese,Thai foods none of this come out right...It would be nice if this place could stick to a certain part of Asia and make great food instead of spreading themselves thin and not getting anything right. The Chinese cuisine and sushi rolls are excellent. I recommend the Tomato Pepper Beef, Spicy Tuna Roll, Dragon on Fire Roll and the Dynamite appetizer. Thai and Korean dishes here are far from authentic. Creme Brûlée lacked the caramelized sugary crunch on top and was a little icy inside, but the custard was delicious. read more

I went in to get it and they were incredibly rude. I asked what the problem was and received no answer, nothing, I asked again if I had offended somebody, and the two snotty girls just refused to answer. One went and got my bag, she handed it to me without so much as a get lost. I was absolutely dumbfounded to the point where I was at a loss as to what just happened. Experience: my friends and I have been here since its inception. What has changed are the menu options, menu prices (slight increase but nothing major) as well as the ambiance (in a good way). Food: They have a really diverse menu with different "Asian" food options from a Korean stone bowl to sushi to standard Chinese plates like orange chicken and beef broccoli. -The sushi is a really good value and the most amazing part is if the sushi chef is in- he usually makes the dishes a work of art! I've seen sushi shaped like trees, peacocks, and even sushi with hearts and roses! -Their salads are yummy! They have avocado salads and different types of seaweed and cucumber salads that are served on cute glass plates. -They have really tasty "bubble shakes"- what makes it fun is that they come in huge neon green goblets! (the tapioca is kind of chewy but not that great- I do recommend the coconut!) Ambiance: The music is cheesy (it's a looped cd over and over with alternative and soft rock mixes) and the wall art is as well. There are four booths that are kind of tight in space but they also have tables with chairs for more room. -The bathrooms are really clean but the sink is kind of too close to the faucet. The sink is a round glass bowl and is really pretty. Service: There is this one waitress who is really thin (and only works there two days a week) who is AMAZING. She has been there the longest and knows her stuff! She is polite, quick, and really nice. -The other waiters and waitresses are okay. Some are better than others (there was this really nice super skinny guy once) but none as good as the skinny waitress (who is there on Tuesdays I think). All in all, a decent local sushi place. Being Chinese, I've never been a fan of "Pan Asian" restaurants. This place, however, exceeds my expectations. Don't do delivery from here. And before you leave with your carry-out, make sure you inspect your food. We used to think highly of Little Wok - Evanston. Not anymore. For the first time in months, we ordered carry-out. My wife picked it well within the quoted 15 minutes and returned home within 10 minutes. The food was cold and each serving had to be reheated in the microwave. Worse, for the first time, in several years of patronizing them, part of the order was awful. The Pot Stickers were so doughy that we couldn't eat them. Raw cookie dough would have been more palatable. Worse, the egg rolls, which we have enjoyed many times before, shared the same problem: the skin was so thick, it made me think of the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on white bread of my youth. Mushy. Very mushy. I emailed Little Wok and received no response, which I accept as their way of telling me to buzz off. In my opinion, the least they could have done was offer an apology and a credit for the $10.50 (plus tax) we paid for essentially inedible food. We'll probably patronize Little Wok again. Until this experience, the food was uniformly good when you dined in. However, I would never again order carry-out without thoroughly examining the food. Delivery is a non-starter. With dine-in, you can send things back to the kitchen. We will, though, be looking for a replacement. read more

I just happened to be in the area on my way home and decided to order the lunch platter (chicken garlic sauce) which I thought was like the sweet garlic pepper sauce that I'm used to. I am always on the lookout for new sushi restaurants. I'm so glad I found one not too far from my house. Little Wok was a big surprise! It's on the smaller side of restaurants, however there is some spaces for larger groups. There's a nice interior decorating and their bar looks really cool. I have to say that the quality of sushi really impressed me. The quality of sashimi melted in my mouth and was full of flavor. They serve the white kind of ginger which I have always found to be a higher quality than the pink. That was my first time sign that this is a good place. I tried the Tiger roll. I thought it would be a little bit bigger given the price and that it was one of their special roles. Nonetheless, I was satisfied with the taste and quality. My friend tried the Godzilla roll which was much larger and also very good. I like the sauce that they put on top of the rules; but it's not smothered like some places do it.
