H2. Sesame Chicken - A white plate contains sesame chicken coated in sauce, garnished with sesame seeds, alongside steamed broccoli and a portion of fried rice with vegetables. The plate is placed on a dark table, with a fork resting on the edge. The background shows part of another plate and a reflective surface of the table.

This is far and away the best Asian food for miles around. I come here often and I'm always surprised that it comes out better every time. The lunch special is affordable and always amazing. I would drive an hour to get their sesame chicken. The staff is also so very nice, they make me smile 6/5 stars

Exterior - The photo depicts the storefront of Hunan Spring, a Chinese restaurant, with prominent red illuminated signage. The entrance features large glass windows through which diners can be seen seated inside. An 'OPEN' neon sign is visible in the window. The building has a brick exterior with a small concrete sidewalk in front. The scene appears to be taken during evening hours, with interior lighting and neon signs providing illumination.

Still good food. Going for dinner is much more expensive though. My sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, egg roll and soda was $21 (including tip).

General Tso's Chicken lunch special - The image shows a fried spring roll placed on a paper wrapper, alongside a foil container filled with fried rice, broccoli florets, and bean sprouts. The food is arranged on a wooden table, with a yellow cloth visible in the background, suggesting a casual dining setting.

A very long overdue review, but Hunan Spring is my favorite place to go for Chinese food in Evanston. I'm lucky enough to live essentially right next door, and when I want something quick and delicious, there they are! I especially appreciate the lunch specials. About $10 will get you an entree, side of fried rice (which I sometimes sub for white rice), and your choice of eggroll or soup. I usually have enough left over for a second meal later. The owners are extremely nice, food is fresh and delicious, and service has always been very quick for me. Very highly recommend Hunan Spring!

Delicious vegetarian options. Pleasant setting and nice customer service. Vegetable spring rolls were very fresh just like rest of the food.

We come here regularly. Their combo fried rice is as good as it gets and the large is a huge portion lots of meat shrimp veggies and flavor.

It's ok. The portions are big, especially the vegetable dishes. We were not wowed by any of the dishes.

Mixed bag. Potstickers are doughy and gummy. Other stuff is ok. Always get delivery and it's usually average

Food was overly salty on one occasion and the next time the egg rolls tasted like fish oil.

It was raining and chilly outside so I decided on something soup based and got myself a bowl of rice noodle soup with fatty beef for my protein. For an appetizer, I got the pork belly with garlic sauce. I really liked this because the pork was thinly sliced and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The rice noodle soup was spicy and hot and the serving was plentiful, so I took the rest to go. As for the service, I was the only one in the restaurant and the server was standoffish and was on his phone most of the time. No big deal but I was really peeved when I said I wanted the rest of my noodle soup to go and he just gave a container and a plastic bag. I usually didn't mind packing my own to go but in this instance, the bowl was bulky and I wasn't sure how I was going to transfer the soup without spilling. I wish the server was a little more thoughtful and offered to help but nope, he just went back to his phone. It would be better to just order take out from this place because the dine in experience was underwhelming.

There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. I order a Thai iced tea which wasn't bad but I prefer mine a little thicker and sweeter. It came in a thin tall glass which in theory was not a lot of drink. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit! Oh and they also give your receipt in a boat which they spin and leave a thank you card once you paid which was really cute.
