Was looking around our apt for Chinese food and stumbled across this place and read the good reviews. We ordered the combination fried rice, fried potstickers, orange chicken, and eggrolls. The fried rice was pretty good compared to other places I have been to very flavorful and dark in color as well. The orange chicken was pretty tasty but didn't taste like normal orange chicken. It actually had orange flavoring and the perfect amount of heat. The eggrolls were also pretty good but I prefer a thin wrapper compared to thick just a personal preference same with the fried potstickers. It was a lot of food for around $35 and enough to pack a lunch the next day. I totally recommend this place and will be going there again! read more

I would not recommend this place it used to be my go to spot for two years. The food is really good, but the service is terrible. The man who takes the orders is very rude. He doesn't want to take any orders or answer any Questions he says if you have a question then you have to come in and place your order and hangs up on you and doesn't answer when you call back. Anybody can make a mistake place in the order I evidently placed the pick up order and then called to say oh I wish it had been delivered. They said will deliver it but we're charging you four dollars you pay four dollars to the delivery person well I have put in a tip for 250 when a guy arrived. I said I've already paid you on my credit card 250 for this order and now you're gonna charge me four dollars more illegal business practices I would never order from this restaurant I've lived in this neighborhood for 15 years and I've always ordered from there. Took a chance on a random place and really enjoyed it. First time ordering, we got wonton soup, egg drop soup, pu pu platter, combo fried rice, Mongolian beef, and orange chicken. All were very good. I would rank the fried rice the weakest, it wasn't bad, but it didn't blow me away. But then again, I can give or take rice dishes most of the time. I didn't have any egg drop soup, but the wonton was fantastic. They add cabbage or bok choy to it, which I love, and the broth and dumplings were both very good. Both entrees were very good, they put the little crispy noodles under the Mongolian beef, which not all places do. All the meat we had was very tender. The appetizer platter was very good as well. We were able to get two full dinners and a small lunch out of our order, so portions were fantastic. I ordered again on my own and got the soup again, crab Rangoon, and beef and broccoli. Once again, great soup, great crab Rangoon, and the beef and broccoli was EXCELLENT! Perfect ratio of meat to veg, the broccoli was the nice long kind, and cooked perfectly. The broccoli is not usually the star of the show, but it absolutely shone in this dish. Hands down, one of the best beef and broccoli I've ever had. And it made three meals for me. Don't expect great ambiance or excellent service. If you expect that from a hole in the wall Chinese place, you are very stupid. You get your food, and go. You don't go there because it's a "nice" place. This will absolutely be my Chinese restaurant of choice. The only thing I don't like is the location. I wish it would swap places with the place within walking distance of my house. I despise driving down that stretch of Clark St, especially in evening traffic, it's too congested. But it was totally worth it. My husband is the one driving the majority of the time anyways. read more

I love their beef with garlic sauce and vegetables! They serve it spicy, just like it should be. This dish itself is 5 stars! The teriyaki beef and bbq pork appetizers are good. The egg rolls are good, but a little small. Their fried rice is good, but honestly isn't too special. The people are nice, but if you're calling in an order, it can be really frustrating because the person who often answers the phone doesn't speak English. (The following review is based solely on the purchase of appetizers) On this stretch of Clark there are a bunch of Chinese restaurants. Some traditional sit downs and others are fast food oriented. This is a fast food joint found in a strip mall next to a sub shop and Little Caesars. They have a few short tables that can suit two or four. Had just picked up some Asian style wings from Miss Saigon Express and wanted some appetizers to go with it. I was headed to a GOT viewing party and (will) often bring food for the potluck. I put in an phone order for fried potstickers and crab rangoon. The order was up and ready in about fifteen minutes. The potstickers were still hot when we enjoyed them. Served with a side of sweet soy. Each pocket had that nice gelatinous, doughy feel with a pocket full of mixed pork. That was the first item to go. So fast.. I wish I could have had a piece or two more. Crab rangoons were fair. More crispy wonton wrapper than filled puff. Though my cousins killed that off too. I could see picking up more appetizers in the future. Notes: They offer different sizes for entrees and specials. Regular, large or x-large (party packaging.) It looked like they offer different sizes for specials as well. Best to inquire. The place is dingy looking, I would advise carryout. read more

The food isn't bad but it's not great either. The portions are huge and at a pretty good price. The service is fast and friendly. There's just something about the taste, though. The ingredients seem fresh, but the dishes we had were pretty greasy and the grease tasted a bit off. You only get pre-packaged sauces and no napkins or cutlery. Very bad experience with the food, customer service, and overall resolution. Saturday night around 9:00 p.m. central time I called "China Spring" and placed an order for delivery of a ex large combination fried rice (chicken, beef, shrimp) and a can of coke soda. The man over the phone took my order and said that the order will be delivered within 45 minutes. (Excellent) The driver made it here within 20 minutes (fantastic). The problem came about when I took a portion out and put it in a bowl. Totally unacceptable...the rice was gritty, the shrimps were half cooked, there was very little portions of meat. I could not believe I just paid $20 for this. I called China Spring immediately several times around 9:30 p.m. and he did not pick up. He knew what he had just sold me and ignored the call... I was livid, and egregious in the worst way. I wrapped up this garbage and put it in the refrigerator. Sunday afternoon reflecting there opening hours as being 12:00 p.m. I called and the same man who took the order the night before answered the phone. I explained the narrative and he did not respond to anything relating to my complaint. What he said is "if you don't like our service do not do business with us again". Wow...I replied by saying how am I going to be compensated for the food you sold me? And in response he asked me if I still had the food? I replied by stating yes every bit but 2 teaspoons. He than stated for me to bring it back for a refund. This is where several problems come in play. And owners of a business should not get upset when a customer details everything in writing and you know that its the truth. First of all...you know exactly what you put in that box and you did not answer when I called because you knew that I was calling to complain. Furthermore, you assumed that the following day the food would be gone that's why you asked me if I still had the food. Thirdly, your resolution after deception is to not do business with us again. Finally, I took the food back to the restaurant and he opened the bag looked in the container hit the cash register and gave me my $20 and had the audacity to say "Okay are you satisfied now"? Decent food, good portions...and FAST! After much debate about which Chinese place is good around East RP, I decided to land on this one due to the Yelp ratings...of course. I can confirm pretty much what I've read based on my experience. The food is about what you would expect, with some variation depending on what you get. I got the Beef & Peapods, General Tso Chicken, and steamed pot stickers. The beef was not the best I've had, but still not too bad. It tasted like it had JUST enough flavor in there to keep it from being bland. Nothing a little extra soy sauce won't fix. The cuts of meat used seemed pretty good - no huge fat chunks or anything like that. There were a lot of mushrooms (I don't care for them too much, but if you do, you're in luck) and the peapods were nice and crisp. The chicken was pretty good, and maybe slightly above average. I found it more flavorful than the beef, and she spicy level was right on the spot. Not super hot, but still with a kick. Now, the pot stickers were my favorite! I got them steamed, which is what I prefer, and the texture was perfect. The chunk of pork inside was medium sized, and tasted good. Finally, that sauce is boss! That is some of the best sauce I've had for pot stickers. I found myself taking a mini-shot out of the little plastic cup after each bite...mmmmm! I'd definitely order from there again. read more

Our regular Rogers Park Chinese-delivery place was on hiatus and our backup seems to have gone out of business, so we took a chance on China Spring for a midweek dinner. The results were very satisfactory. We ordered a large wonton soup, large entree and an even larger fried rice to have leftovers (extra-large, almost fifteen dollars, but around half a gallon). Egg rolls, delivery and tax put us at $31.90, but Crab Rangoon was free since we were over twenty dollars. The food arrived within half an hour and was just fine. The wonton soup could have had a stronger chicken-broth flavor but was rich with handrolled wontons, bok choy, spinach and julienne strips of pork. The Crab Rangoon (2) were large and fresh, some of the best I've ever had, and the egg rolls were quite good. The entree was more than sufficient and the fried rice was done to a "T" with that nice, slightly grilled flavor I like. The only wrinkle in this very positive experience was that the delivery person claimed he couldn't "break a twenty" on our $31.90 order. I asked him if he'd be happy with thirty bucks and the rest in change, with no tip. He "suddenly" found a five-dollar bill so wound up with a perfunctory tip of about ten percent (we tip better when we are treated fairly). This would have been a five-star review if not for that last-minute mishigas. read more

This is the only Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood that I continue to return to. It doesn't hurt that it's right around the corner, but I have had a great experience here everytime I come. Before and after the management change. FOOD: They have recently changed management and have consequently shifted into using higher quality ingredients. Before, the shrimp used in the lo mein was not "de-veined" and were on the smaller side. Now, the shrimp are huge, cleaned, and very generously included. In my Large order of shrimp lo mein, I had 20- 25 large shrimp. Furthermore, their large order is huge. Their pork dumplings are very good in my opinion, and you get six very large dumplings in the order. Their fried rice is very good as well, and the General Tsao's chicken comes with plenty of sauce to put over the rice. SERVICE: They honor the coupons on their menu, without having to bring the coupons in. Just mention it while ordering over the phone. The food is always ready pretty fast, but its definitely made fresh, because when I ordered in store, and sat and waited while the husband/father of this family cooked it up. They are open almost every day and are willing to take last minute orders. And they always include fortune cookies. BONUS: the fortune cookies they use have actual fortunes. (think, "you will soon get a promotion") NOT vague pieces of sage advice (think, "Friends are the greatest asset") read more

Get home ready to eat and 2 packages of Soy sauce in the bag (2 packets for 2 Large dishes that serve 4) and NO sweet and sour. No plastic silverware, no chopsticks and no napkins.
