I've been a fan of Udon Noodles for many years, ever since they had a location near the Washington Brown Line stop. Their udon noodles are perfectly made -- soft but still with a nice bounce. My favorite is shrimp tempura udon. The tiger dishes are delicious, and the portions are very generous. The owners, Jimmy and Jeanine, are a lovely married couple who are always kind and welcoming to their customers. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. The employee working there was extremely rude and aggressive. When I asked a simple question about my food order, she started yelling at me instead of helping. I had already paid for my food and was simply asking to receive my order. Instead of resolving the situation, she threatened to call the police on me. This was completely unacceptable and very unprofessional. No customer deserves to be treated this way. I felt disrespected and shocked by this behavior. Management seriously needs to train their staff on basic customer service and respect. I will not be coming back. read more

Came inside to H-Mart for some later evening shopping. While we were there we initially looked at the H-Mart sushi aisle, but then I looked over behind and noticed the Tokyo lunch box . I would say that the way the H-Mart aisles were stacked, it was actually a little bit hidden so you have to take a look against the side wall. Since we were here around 6:30pm we took advantage of their 50% sushi deal and picked up a really nice options of both regular sushi, larger sushi wrap type rolls, and sashimi still available. There was a short line at the time of others taking advantage of the same deal. The man at the register filled our order very quickly, and he was so sweet and joked with us. Service was great! This place is inside HMart in Niles. I have always bought rolls from them but when I saw the Katsu meals and honestly I saw a guy eating it on a nearby table. I had to get it and try it myself. I bought the Chicken Katsu and it was tje bomb!!!!. So tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Came with veggies and rice. 5 stars overall! The lady who works here is always SO NICE and helpful. My partner is gluten free and she helps us make sure we get a gf option and she offers free gluten free soy sauce which is rare to find lately! Sushi is 4 stars to me, and the bowls I would say are 5! Also the reviews about BOGO offers not being fresh is funny because that's the POINT? it's BOGO later in the day so it doesn't have to be tossed at night. So of course it's not as crispy but it's also HALF OFF. If you want super fresh go to a normal sit down restaurant :) Overall tho it's great for quick sushi that will fill you up! read more

If you're looking for good quality, look elsewhere because the quality was like average kind of bland. The shrimp tempura was not crunchy, it was too soft. The spicy Tokyo deluxe combo was not fresh, it was probably prepared earlier in the day. On 3.25th, 2025 I ate a salmon burrito. On 4. 2nd, I got my card statement. Instead of Tokyo Lunch Box, a Permanently closed business name was charging its price, $14.45. At 7pm & 7:12pm I called here, but nobody picked up the phone. The Hmart CS woman HeeJung Kim 김희정 said, they close at 7pm and open at 11(?). So I gave up calling them more to solve this issue! *But if I google their website, it said they open for 9-9. The Hmart CS person gave me a wrong information! On 4.3rd, at 9:12 am, I called again. A Mexican employee said the owner Mr. Kim comes at 5pm. Around 5:05 I called 4th time ! To a woman on the phone, I asked the owner Kim, but she said he's not there. I said the employee woman told me that he'll be at the place at 5pm every day. She repeated he's not there. I asked her when he's coming back. She asked me why. I explained what happened. SHE SAID SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! Excuse me? Aren't you a Korean? I asked her. She didn't answer. I asked her name. She said 00 Kim. Aren't you his wife ? Then why do you pretend as if you're not a Korean ? She said she's not an owner and why she should tell me she's his wife ! And she said, " You mean you took money from my place, right? Tokyo Lunch Box is just A-OK. I used to work at an internship in the city, and ended up going to one of their other locations in Chicago and remembering it was decent sushi for its price. It's located inside of H-Mart, which has a small Asian food court on the right side of the building. There are choices of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cuisine, a 180 degree difference from what you see in all other food courts. I love the convenience of it because its super close to work, so when I crave sushi and don't feel like ordering takeout from a nearby restaurant, I just come in and go in a manner of minutes. They have all types of maki rolls and nigiri ready to go, but you can also ask the chef for other requests. The quality of the sushi is a good 3.5/4 stars considering where I get it from. It's not as fresh, creative, or delicious as you may get from a high-end restaurant, but it's undeniably better than sushi from other grocery stores (Garden Fresh, Whole Foods, etc.). My favorite is the Spicy Tokyo Deluxe (picture attached). It comes with a 6 piece Spicy Tuna and 5 pieces of different nigiri. I rate it 3 stars because I find the prices are too high for what I get. I have an amazing spot I go to near my work as well, and I get more sushi for less money there. Also, they are very cheap when it comes to ginger and spicy mayo. There is maybe 2 pieces of ginger in each box, and when I asked for extra, I was given a total of 6 small pieces. I asked for spicy mayo which I am sure I paid for, and I didn't even have enough for all the sushi. Regardless of my issues with this place, I still find myself here every once in awhile and I will continue to do so. The man working at the counter is very friendly and I don't mind giving them more business. Also, they have a special (at least I remember seeing it awhile ago) where you buy one roll, get one or two free after 5 pm. I will def keep that in mind next time I stay at work late. read more

For fridge-kept sushi, I'm a fan. Tucked within the food court area of H-Mart, TOKYO lunch box offers a variety of ready-to-go lunches, as well as made-to order foods. I came late in the afternoon, and was suckered by the B1G1 Free marketing. Great ploy, and reassuring to know that the sushi is made fresh daily, rather than kept in the cooler for several days. For about $7-10, the rolls are flavorful and meaty. You can definitely note that the sushi rice takes a hit from the cold exposure, but it's not super dry or stale. I had the California roll with masago. Surprised to find the imitation crab (Pollock) was as meaty as it was (good sized!) and really had a nice flavor to it. I gobbled this roll down. However, you'll notice they definitely use a drop of wasabi in each piece to hold everything together. You'll get that zingy after note. I don't mind it, but others might. The other roll I had was the spicy shrimp tempura, which was finessed with some spicy mayo and unagi sauce (I always love). Flavorful, but simple. I still think I liked the California better for some reason. Maybe it just tasted better refreshing, and I prefer any shrimp tempura with that fresh-from-the-frier heat to it. I'd definitely grab more to go, and might even be interested in trying their soups sometime. read more

This is a place you go when you are craving sushi or udon but do not want to pay outrageous prices. They have a 2-for-1 deal Monday through Friday. It is from their premade selection only. The sushi was fresh for the most part, and I was able to get a very filling meal. For under $10, I got a spicy roll sampler and a rainbow roll. For some reason, the salmon was a bit more "fishy" tasting than what I would like. Service was almost nonexistent. The guy at the counter helped me pay but that was it. Other times, I have had their udon soup. It is typically made fresh, but I do not think they make their noodles onsite. Very solid option otherwise. read more

Inside the H-Mart's food court... I don't eat in the food court often.. but once in a blue moon... if we are grocery shopping, we may stop by for a quick bite to eat... I keep forgetting that I don't like their maki but since I'm not there very often, I tend to forget... They have these "buy one get one free" deals after a certain time of the evening... probably the last 3 hours before closing time. Basically, they bring over all the leftover sushi from their other locations and they are trying to get rid of them with the BOGO free deals... The rice is very hard ... and you can only get the cheap ones for free... buy the expensive one... and then cheap one for free... To be honest, I don't think it's really worth the "free" deal.... On the side note, unless you are super hungry .... in general, I wouldn't really recommend eating in this food court, period. Everything is way overpriced! read more

It's nice to have this in the HMart for a quick good meal while, before or after you shop. It's not crazy awesome sushi but I think it's pretty darn good for being in a grocery store. My only complaint is that it's pretty pricey for what it is. You can get higher quality for the same price in the city. Al the rolls are good as is their miso soup! I've gone here a couple times considering it's only a couple minutes away by foot. It's located in the cafeteria section of H-Mart so it can be pretty loud and busy. Regarding the food, it was alright. I've had their sushi multiple times. They're good. Not bad, not amazing. Just okay. Their meals are pretty filling. However, when I ordered the fish katsu, my fish was way too hard. It was a bit difficult to chew. I also never eat the small side of salad they add to the meals because I don't like the dressing they add on. Like I said, the quality of the food is alright. I used to really enjoy this place in the Super H food court but after visiting Tokyo and eating sushi there I have since become a little snobbish. This place is a fast food type joint, with prepared foods at a cheap price. They'll make for you too if you ask, either rolls or nigiri. But it just doesn't have the freshness or quality that I'm looking for. The tuna is OK but it's a little chewy. So, it's a decent place for a snack if you're shopping at H Mart but temper your expectations accordingly. read more

If it would be possible to give this place a zero star rating I would. Having just tried to buy dinner at this location, I was promptly shown the special buy one more expensive one get one cheap one free. After exploring the expensive options i decided to pay full price for the cheaper ones instead. At which point the guy behind the counter promptly took the contents out of my hand and told me to buy the special or nothing. Flabbergasted I walked away and came back a minute later to ask why the cheaper stuff has a price on it if it's not for sale. At this point I think he realized he went to far and moved to what he thought was a middle ground and told me this once he would sell me the cheaper stuff without buying the expensive stuff as well. I was so upset I walked away and decided to post this to warn others. I will never grace this or any other Tokoyo Lunch Box in the future after this experience again. I really only come here on cold days to pick up one of the udon soups, the sushi is decent, but most of the reviews here expect something amazing when its a food court sushi spot. No the noodles are not made on site, like the rest of the other ones they make them from a package and jazz it up with extras. Pre-made sushi is ok if you get it early enough, but near mid to the end of the day the rice gets so hard. If anything the ones that don't have raw fish would be your better bet since you can kinda heat those up a bit. Spicy mayo is just sriracha and mayo mixed, everyone has both in their home. Please stop complaining about that. The guys that work there are friendly and no they will not come to your table to enhance your dining experience to see how you are doing, again its food court sushi. Price is a little higher than some other cheap places for sure, but I'm wondering if its cause they do make some specialty rolls on site? Oh well. xD read more
