Great place if you're looking for an authentic Japanese food. I ordered the udon tempura set. The set comes with 6 piece California roll and a one shrimp tempura . The broth is very tasty doesn't seem like they use a lot of msg. Not bad $11. I also got a drink Calpico it's a Japanese citrusy flavor drink. They also make fresh roll and sashimi when you order. They have sushi chefs that makes sushi right in front of you. They have pre- made rolls you can pick from. With all the different food drink and snacks. It almost feels like a mini Japanese super market. You go up and order they give you a number and you find a seat. I would say they have 14 tables of two. Sea ranch gives you the Japan feel. So not the biggest place but it works. It's street parking you have to pay for. Unless you park 2 blocks down in the neighborhood then it's free. Great place highly recommended! read more

i absolutely love sea ranch! it's been my go-to for the past few years in evanston, especially when i'm craving sushi or japanese food in general. the food is always delicious (the spicy tornado roll is my favorite) and i love trying the rotating specials they have! my friends and i always default to meeting up here because we love their food and the casual atmosphere. the staff are always very polite and friendly, and ive never felt rushed at a table. a couple times i've ordered curbside pick up or had my order delivered to me in pour, which is also very convenient. if you buy sashimi grade fish, they also offer to cut it up for you, which is really nice! the selection of grocery items like rice, seasonings, snacks, instant ramen, and ice cream, as well as the cute stationery they sell, is another plus. the nearest asian grocery store to my knowledge is hmart in niles, about a 20-30 min drive, so being able to get smaller items at sea ranch in a pinch can save me a trip to hmart. the one thing i will say is that the take out containers are a lot of plastic, though the ones for soup and noodles are reusable. really minor though since i guess with sushi, a paper container doesn't work as well because the rice sticks. all in all, i love this place, and if i could give them more than 5 stars i absolutely would!! read more

I really like this place! I decided I need some sushi to celebrate the end of the week followed by Netflix so I explored their menu and placed my order. The price of sushi is very reasonable and they have all kinds of interesting rolls among other things. I kept it simple and ordered a couple veggie rolls and a miso soup. My order was ready a bit later but I was in no rush. Went to pick it up, and the place is very clean and cool inside. They have plenty of fun Asian groceries to grab and try at home. They were packed on a Friday night with to go orders but you can also grab a small table to eat inside. My sushi was well packed very neatly and tasted very good! I would for sure return for fish sushi! Depending when you go, street parking can be tough but you may find parking in the neighborhood. read more

Business owner told me to check "my app" to see updated time. I did not use an app at all and the manner in which the message was conveyed was not too kind. The dining area was cramped just like the rest of the store/restaurant. Nothing in their store had a price tag and one door was blocked, forcing patrons to enter and exit out of one cramped area that is obviously very intentional. They are so freaking nice here and have great sushi and great ramen/udon sets. The sushi tastes super fresh and is well made. The noodle dishes I've tried have been delicious and feel like something with a real homemade touch. They have great drink selection as well. Seating is casual and it's super laid back and welcoming. They have a nice small Japanese grocery section that is nice. Prices are really reasonable. One of my long time favs. They do great pick up orders now as well! read more

We ordered delivery through UberEats. The nigiri pieces were all over, which was probably due to being improperly handled by the delivery driver. The freshness of the nigiri and rolls were still very fresh and delicious. I especially liked the fatty tuna roll and yellowtail nigiri. We were in the area and were looking for something relatively quick for lunch so decided to stop by Sea Ranch. There are a few small tables inside but it may be difficult to find a table during lunch/dinner rush. Thankfully we were able to snag a table after waiting ~5-10 minutes. Our food came out shortly thereafter. I had the chirashizushi (fish pieces over rice: tuna, white fish, salmon, shrimp, eel, omelette, imitation crab and salmon roe) while hubby had the sushi superior (1 piece each: tuna, white fish, salmon, yellowtail, eel, surf clam, shrimp and smelt roe; 1/2 tuna roll and 1/2 cucumber roll). The fish was fresh and the rice was prepared well. However, I didn't read the fish that the chirashizushi came with and there were a few that I didn't care for (imitation crab and shrimp). It was still good nonetheless and was plenty of food for me. On the other hand, hubby was still left slightly hungry but polished off both of our miso soups. Updating my review and adding a star. The fish is super fresh and the prices are extremely fair. Place reminds me of a Japanese 7-11 type store complete with Japanese candy and snacks. Grab a pre made roll from the refrigerator or order custom rolls, chefs combos or large party platter. The food won't disappoint. Visited here on a whim Saturday Evening and did a take out order as there was no dining allowed during this time of Covid. I did do the order over the phone ahead of time which was great. By the time we got there there was a line of pick ups and people coming into order. Street parking here is always challenging however it is free on certain holidays Sundays and after a certain time in the evening. The place is small Homie and quaint but the food is very direct and no nonsense. The sushi is pretty simple no nonsense which I appreciate completely. I would consider this a go to for some basics and Staples but definitely not a place if you're looking for something fancy. The price point is fair as well and the portions are decent. I would definitely come back to fulfill a craving and get some good staples. read more

No one was dining in yet, so chances of grabbing a table around lunch if you're early seem pretty good. Sure, compared to Trader Joe's $4 sushi this place is pricey. But since their sushi is good and they don't have a lot of nearby competition, the prices seem reasonable. There were lots of ready made rolls available for easy grab and go. I got a pack with 6 pieces California roll, 6 pieces salmon, 6 pieces tuna. Thats 18 pieces of sushi for ~$12. They also have a little market and a menu that includes a variety of Japanese entrees, including ramen noodles. This business is so cute. They sell some limited Japanese grocery items like rice, Pocky, frozen gyoza, etc. They also have some fresh fish at the front. There is also a menu here too. It's not too expensive, maybe $8-$11 for your meal. I tried the plain udon set and really liked it. Portion size was good, and they also give you some California rolls on the side. I liked that the CA rolls did not have cucumber (I hate raw cucumber!). The udon flavor was pretty much exactly what I wanted (maybe a hair too salty so don't drink all the broth). The noodles were cooked well. They also have free barley tea (caffeine free) on the side, which I also love. I definitely would want to come back again. read more

I bought golden curry (amazing), but next time I go I'll bring a freezer bag and buy black sesame mochi and frozen gyoza. I came here on a rainy afternoon for lunch and the tempura udon set really hit the spot! On top of the extensive menu, there is also a grocery store within the restaurant with an array of (pretty authentic!) Japanese snacks and fare. When you step inside, the decor is simple yet comforting. The best, yet underrated, part is the unlimited hot barley tea--it pairs perfectly with your meal. There is also a lot of options for sushi rolls which seemed popular--I'll have to try it in my next visit. The tempura udon set comes with a side of a California roll. The udon had a very rich broth and the tempura was crispy, sitting gracefully on the soup. The set all together is only about $10 which is a great deal for the hefty proportions. I also ordered a side of takoyaki which is served cold, but if you order in, you can ask them to have them heat it up for you. It's a bit of a walk from Northwestern, but there is a CTA 201 bus stop that is only a ~5 min walk away! read more
