This place is very tucked away underneath the metra. Was not expecting such a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere inside. Service was straight forward and very attentive. Silverware was changed out and empty plates or glasses vanished quickly. The food was incredibly well executed and expertly prepared. Loved the octopus, beet salad and halibut.

Brought my daughter here as her celebratory start business school kick-off! It was very good. We sat outside, which surprisingly wasn't too loud even with the train. Food and service were good. Expensive with not the largest portions, but tasty and the sorbet to cleanse our palates was a nice touch.

I really wish alcove lived up to its Yelp rating, but both times I've gone I've found issues with the service and even some of the food. On my most recent visit (mid April) I was celebrating a friend's birthday. We had an 8pm reservation and called the restaurant telling them we were running a couple minutes late. The hostess was incredibly rude and cold. Not a good start. Then we arrived at the restaurant and met the rude hostess in person -- I don't know what was going on but she didn't say hi, smile, or greet us. She just said "come" and then threw the menus on our table. The food itself is good but overpriced. I loved the octopus and my fish dish in lobster bisque. Absolutely delicious. However, the tuna tartare isn't very special and is a TINY portion. The beef tenderloin was also a bit tough and nothing to write home about. Our server was a nice British lady who was kind and attentive. The ambiance here is so weird, though. Both times I've been it feels eerily quiet, super stuffy and pretentious, and not very welcoming. I hope to try it again and improve my rating, but both times I've been the service has been lackluster and the food -- while some of it fantastic -- generally overhyped.

Cozy, delicious food, exceptional service... Dine at the Alcove for special occasions and white glove service! From the moment we arrived, we received a warm welcome, fantastic service and enjoyed our cocktails as well as all entrée selections. The palate cleanser between courses was a nice surprise! We didn't feel rushed and enjoyed our two hour meal. Will definitely make a trip back to Evanston again soon, when looking for a special dinner! Go!

This is one of the best kitchens in Illinois! Always surprising & always delicious. No tables are spaced close to another. After you pass the unattractive entranceway, in inside is very pleasant.

I would've posted zero stars if allowed. We never got to eat dinner, and this rating also applies to the incompetent management. I was also part of the 7:00 Valentine's dinner reservation group that others have posted about. We were not about to wait 35-40 min even though our reservation was made 3 weeks in advance. No manager communications about their issues, apologies, nothing. We were fuming about the situation... Well the story didn't end there. I got a call from the General Manager the following week to apologize for their complete mismanagement of the situation. He offered to pay for dinner for me & my wife to come back to the restaurant which was the right thing to do. We decided to accept his offer since they wanted to "make good" on our terrible experience. I followed up with the GM the next week about scheduling our free dinner. He actually had the gaul to rescind his offer! I'm including the text exchange below for full transparency since it's hard to believe that this really occurred. I can't make this up. It's incomprehensible that a restaurant could make such a bad situation even worse. We will never go back.

This hole in a wall restaurant is very easy to miss as it is located below the train tracks but I would recommend checking it out. For being below the tracks you could not hear the train as loud as I expected. The place was buzzing for a Thursday night but since we made a reservation we got seated immediately. We started off with wine and some house bread and a crab corn soup to follow which was super delicious. For apps we got the octopus and meatballs. The octopus was very soft, flavorful and melted in our mouths. The meatballs was alright and we could have honestly skipped ordering it. They also served us matcha gelato as a palate cleanser before the main course. For main course we shared the Duck breast. I would say it was very delicious and came with a sauce and veggies. We shared all the meals among two people and left with a happy belly! The staff here is very friendly and great service overall!

And it's about right- it gives 'fancy restaurant in a fancy hotel' for sure. It was dead on a Thursday, and luckily our waiter was very kind and attentive. I've read issues with staffing, but we were lucky in our staff were very nice and accommodating. I could definitely see how easy it would be to get slow service though. The food was overall decent! Again, 'fancy hotel' vibes- not the best you'd have, but definitely far from the worst. The fish was absolutely excellent, and the steak was cooked very well! I would say their soup or the day had needed more seasoning, and the portions were smaller for the prices. We didn't get drinks, which probably saved us from a heftier bill. Overall it's a decent enough spot to feel a little fancy in Evanston, but if you're looking to cut costs, I'd just split an appetizer.

It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.

So much so that I ordered the smoked Sampler plate, and was I glad I did. I started off with their Top O' The Morning special Saint Patrick's cocktail (Titos, Curacao, and orange juice shaken and poured over ice). I really loved this drink. My hubby had a Margarita that was just delightful. Our appetizers were: Angry Shrimp (really delicious) shrimp with a spicy tomato garlic sauce. Served over polenta cake. Ahi Tuna Wanton (mango jicama salsa, avocado, and teriyaki sauce) This should be their signature appetizer). The presentation is impeccable. It appealed to our eyes before the 1st bite. And,the first bite, as well as the rest, was wonderful. We would gladly return here just for this. Our entrees were: Grilled Salmon with corn risotto, grilled asparagus, smoked tomato aioli. The salmon was well cooked to medium, not too dry, and not too rare. The plate was well balanced and everything was very tasty. Smoked Sampler My favorite! Rib tips, brisket, pulled pork, Texas toast, cole slaw. For dessert: Chocolate Brownie Apple Crisp Both were so good that we did not want to share! The next time you are in the Evanston area, you really must stop in for their delicious food!

Stacked unapologetically high, this burger is everything you want and more: juicy, perfectly seared patties layered with melty cheese, crispy bacon, and those golden, crunchy fried onions that take it completely over the top. Every bite is rich, savory, and just messy enough to remind you you're eating something seriously good. The toasted bun somehow holds it all together (barely), soaking up every bit of flavor without getting lost in the chaos. And then... the shoestring fries. Thin, crispy, golden perfection--light but addictive, with that ideal crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one (or ten). They're the kind of fries you keep reaching for without even realizing it, especially dipped in that creamy, tangy sauce on the side. And let's not forget the drinks--just as good as the food. Refreshing, perfectly balanced, and the kind you sip slow while taking it all in (but somehow they disappear way too fast). It's not just a burger--it's one of Chicago's most iconic bites for a reason. Bold, indulgent, and absolutely worth every single napkin you'll need after. The ambiance inside is GORGEOUS!

My husband got the burger with fried onions and I got some Bao because those also looked delicious and were a popular menu item. Honestly the 3 stars are only that high because of the service. Our server was friendly and attentive + the food came out hot and quick. Unfortunately, the food was pretty disappointing. The burger was swimming in a puddle of grease and just picking it up made your hands greasy + was dripping grease. The fries that came with it were floppy, soggy, and sad...but at least warm? I personally wouldn't order this again. The Bao were better, but small for the price and honestly were just okay? It was nice they gave you sauces you could add, but I found the Bao's to already have enough sauce so I didn't need them. Overall I left feeling confused and disappointed. I don't feel the need to come back here - Little Bad Will was a one and done experience for me.

The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the smell, and it is coming from the outdated carpet. It is not subtle. It lingers throughout the entire space and makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience or even have much of an appetite. Older carpet is a real issue in restaurants. Over time, it traps dust, food particles, grease from the air, moisture, and bacteria. If it is not regularly deep cleaned or replaced, that buildup starts to break down and creates a heavy, musty odor. It does not stay contained in the carpet either, it rises into the air and essentially fills the entire space. The smell is so strong that it takes away from what would otherwise be a really good dining experience. Updating or properly maintaining the carpet would make an immediate and noticeable difference.
