    Bacon Wrapped Dates

While the interior made me feel warm and cozy, and our server was super down to earth and friendly. the food, however, did not give me the same warm and fuzzy feeling. Their Caesar salad tasted overly fishy from the dressing, so if you're into the anchovies you may like it more than I did. The sauce on the ribs was nice, but very sweet- again, you may enjoy it if you like sweeter sauces. I wasn't very impressed by the meat. The potatoes were solid, but it's pretty hard to mess up potatoes. I'd personally only come back if I were meeting someone for drinks and maybe an app. Or if I wanted an entire meal of solely mashed potatoes. (Which now that I type it out might not be a bad idea..)

    Seasonal Mule

I was actually hoping to check out Ward 8 the next door over, but found out they're closed for an autumn break. I was feeling a bit peckish (pun very much intended), and wanted a drink or two to close out the week. The Peckish Pig was right next door, so I decided to give it a go. Besides, I learned in college that if a place is busy on a Friday night, that's likely a good sign. What I got was a definition of a mixed experience. I had the opportunity to try a spicy blanco margarita, a seasonal mule, the chicken tinga tacos, and some sticky toffee pudding to close out the night. The Seasonal Mule went down like a Diet Pepsi. It wasn't very boozy, but was definitely very refreshing. I cannot say this one was very strong, or at least it wasn't very strong tasting. However, the Blanco Margarita, a couple sips in, hit me like a ton of bricks. This one was properly spicy, boozy, not overly sweet, and did the job well of washing away a difficult week. While maybe a little more tang would have been called for, the booziness more than made up for it. Now, a question to really boggle your mind is, was it all the margarita or was it the mule catching up to me? When it comes to the chicken tinga tacos, they came out so piping hot! The chicken was very tender and was nicely sauced, with the red sauce adding some herbal notes and the sour cream adding some savoriness. The kicker with this one is it was crying out for some contrasting textures, maybe some onion or something else that's crisp and fresh. Still, a solid product and a filling portion. I'd also like to give credit to the service. It was friendly, welcoming, and very fast, especially considering how busy the restaurant was that night. Then there comes the question of prices. While I wouldn't call the rates exorbitant, it did feel a bit on the higher side. Where it comes to the tacos, while not a rip-off, I am not convinced that such rates are justified. Final Verdict: The Peckish Pig makes for a wonderful spot to get together with some friends in a lively atmosphere. However, if you are seeking a mind-blowing food product or drink, this is likely not the place for you. P.S. With a name like that, I would assume there'd be more pork products on the menu! Maybe more bacon or pork belly items.

Just not as good as I remembered it to be, and I've been coming here for over 8 years bc I remember kiddo #1 celebrated her 1st birthday there, LOL. The pesto salmon special ($22) with risotto and asparagus on that night was muy underwhelming. While I love me a good salmon filet, this one was a bit dry, and also, I noticed the risotto had a strange cheese used in it, like when I scooped it up, it pulled away like the melted mozzarella in pizza, but not in a good way. Pass on this. My stomach was a bit unsettled after the meal too, and I don't know what it was from. We tried the salt and pepper wings and soft pretzel appetizers. There's nothing like warm pretzel bread with beer cheese! I would absolutely recommend that. The cocktails were about $14. Post-meal, we shared 2 orders of sticky toffee pudding. We actually double checked that it was the toffee pudding and not Texas chocolate sheet cake because it didn't look like a traditional bread pudding made of cut up carby pieces. Rather, it looked like a rectangular brownie in a pool of thick custard or creme. I enjoyed the energetic ambience; the overall experience and quality of food just didn't meet expectations on this excursion.

    Breakfast Burrito

Great first experience at Peckish Pig! Came at around 11am on a Sunday, and split the Smoked Salmon plate and Breakfast Burrito (+ chorizo) with a friend. We were seated on the beautiful back patio, and were attended by a calm and knowledgeable server. He gave us some great recommendations as the brunch menu had quite a few tantalizing options. We settled on splitting a couple of dishes, and about 15 minutes after our order was placed the food arrived. The portions were generous! We actually wished that we had a second bagel for all of the cream cheese and salmon they gave us. Each dish was rich and salty, and if the breakfast burrito was just a touch more interesting (more spice?) it would have been absolutely stellar. 5 stars for the salmon, 3.5 for the burrito. All accounted for we'd definitely come again!

Great brew pub with a wide selection of beers and eats. They also have a fantastic weekend brunch and in the warmer month they have a fun patio section in the back. The staff is very friendly and always helpful.

The Peckish Pig is a terrific restaurant in south Evanston. I love the atmosphere of the back patio. On a nice day, I highly recommend sitting outside. We came for a flamenco night, enjoying not only cocktails & good food, but music and dancing as well. We shared bacon wrapped dates (mouthwatering) and a butternut squash appetizer- also fantastic! Our table ordered pizza, a sandwich, nachos, and a bowl with sweet potatoes (I can't remember the name of the dish). Cocktails were delightful & refreshing. Our service was terrific until it was time to wrap up. Our server hadn't been by in a while(10-15 minutes?), was nowhere to be found, and a different server we called over to help us settle our bill seemed annoyed with us at the request (and they didn't help us). This is the only reason for knocking off a star in an otherwise 5-star experience.

Lamb Burger and Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich
    Adria H.

My partner and I have eaten here a few times and the food is reliably good. My partner likes the lamb burger, this time I tried the fried chicken sandwich. This most recent visit I have to say the service we received was really hospitable and accommodating. We came to dine on a busy Friday night without a reservation, I expected a wait, but the host seated us right away! We found that our table was really sticky, so we asked if it could be wiped down. They sent two different people over to wipe down the table but found the table was just really sticky even after being cleaned. So then one of the gentleman busing tables came and brought out an entirely new table for us! I wish I had gotten his name because he deserves a big shout out for being so kind to us! Our server was great and checked in on us regularly. We look forward to coming back over the summer to enjoy the beautiful patio space!

I came for brunch with my husband. I had the vegetarian quiche with salad and a side of Irish bacon. The food was okay. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. The complimentary donuts are delightful and I did see you can also order them on the menu. The service was good.

Went on a Sunday afternoon and ate from their brunch menu. I got the picanha and eggs it was very good. The steak was medium rare and I didn't even have to ask. The eggs were sunny side up and cooked perfectly. It came with a diced potatoes. The restaurant was not that busy and they attended us quickly and our food came out fast. Bathrooms were clean. I have no complaints I would definitely go back.

Delicious Full English Breakfast that killed

Okay so we moved to the bar cuz awful chairs for big butts Glad we did becuz CHRISTIAN . We were glad for the spacious casual vibe and impressive menu. Not a cramped overpriced city or suburban bistro! It was strangely hot for September so we didn't patio - but it looked great. Got the "full English" which was quite reasonable at $18. My daughter had the cheesy grits +eggs n bacon. We didn't cocktail but they had a frozen cider that we tasted -- boozy! Recommend.

    Sweets for tea

Mother, daughter, and granny tea date! The sandwiches were great, the sweets were awesome. It wasn't too loud to chat, we were never rushed, and offered a top up on our hot water a few times. Very cute, I hope it's something they keep doing. For the restaurant- there was a white substance crumbling off the wall and falling onto our table. Luckily we had finished our food or it would have landed in it.

Loved the appies - we got the cauliflower hummus and deviled eggs - highly recommend both. As for entrees, chicken sandwich was perfectly fried crispy with not too much breading, on a biscuit. Fries were just ok. They were unfortunately out of the schnitzel I wanted to try so I had the halibut special instead. The fish was perfectly cooked, but the composition of the fish was rather confusing - the lobster bisque-like sauce was fantastic on its own, but overpowered the delicate halibut. The crispy yuca strips went perfectly with the fish, but the dish was finished off with lots of shishito peppers - again, way too overpowering. I would have preferred a much subtler vegetable. Kids Mac and cheese was fantastic, with a hint of what I think was thyme. The drink list was heavily spirit -forward. I ended up getting a sangria which was good, but my husband thought the old fashioned was terrible. The balance of spirit vs bitters was completely off, plus it was served over tiny ice instead of a large cube. To top it all off, the cherry was muddled.

It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.

During dinner, they will also bring fresh warm bread over to the table. The staff is very friendly and the ambiance is definitely casual tavern style. You can catch all the local sports game there and in the warmer months they setup the outdoor patio.

Valley Lodge Tavern has a classy but casual atmosphere good for groups and parties. A lot of the expected menu items. There's burgers and meaty things but also some lighter options. Big inside with a bar in the middle and tables all around. It's got plenty of room for large groups. There's also a pretty big patio. Gets crowded. Thankfully we were able to get seats at the bar and it was pretty fast to be honest. It's about $15 for a cocktail. Too expensive but good though. I got the Valley Lodge Signature, which is their main one of course. This is made with Chambord and Ketel One Citroen, along with cranberry, lime, and sour mix. It's about $17 for a burger. These are also too expensive but at least these come with a side. Each of us got the Classic Burger with a Beyond Burger patty. These have the basic toppings like lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Has a lot of classic items but it's pretty expensive. It's located on Central Avenue among other restaurants and the theater. There's mostly meaty items but has some things for vegetarians.
