This is a cute little mom-and-pop restaurant. The service was great and the waiter was helpful in helping us order as it was our first time there. We opted on the mimosa bottle, it comes with one mixer. A kid's menu is available we tried the corn beef hash, and the pork rinds hash, we both decided that they were not equally balanced as they were too much pork in each dish. The chilaquiles plate was good and flavorful. if you're looking for something, sweet, we would highly recommend the blueberry French toast. overall, the restaurant was very brightly lit and clean. read more

Man if there was a time where I thanked my indecisiveness I was this morning. Not being able to make a decision on a good breakfast I just made the spontaneous decision of Frida's. Little did I know that that they specialized in Chilaquiles and as soon as I took the first bite I immediately knew that they took their Chilaquiles game seriously lol. Returned to celebrate our anniversary. This time we decided to have lunch not brunch. Still got the mimosa's. I had the brunch burger and my wife had the smoked salmon and bagel. I wanted the salad rather than the fries. The burger was one of the best I've ever had. It was huge, must have been more than the posted 1/2 pound. Huge brioche bun with couple of tomato slices, lettuce, a large fried egg and 2 amazing slices of bacon. and a must have sauce. I usually can't eat more than a 1/4 pound, but I made it work and finished the entire burger. Glad I hadn't eaten breakfast. The salmon portion was huge. My wife had to bring a 1.4 of it home. Comes with hard boiled egg, cream cheese, capers, lettuce and two huge tomato slices. read more

We drive from Lakeview to Evanston for the triple berry mascarpone crepes very often. It is the only thing I have ever ordered from here and they are so amazing that I can't order anything else. Everytime i dine in Evanston I'm so jealous of their restaurant scene. I would have loved 1/4 of these restaurants when I was at NU 22 years ago, although we still managed to eat just fine during my years there. I worried about finding parking near Frida's, but fortunately there were plenty of metered spots nearby on this particular Friday afternoon. We had our option of seating indoors or outdoors, but chose indoors since it looked like it may rain. Fortunately, we were seated right away. I prefer breakfast to lunch food so ordered from the breakfast menu. the Mushroom, Spinach, and Goat Cheese Omelette was great - especially since i was famished after playing tennis that morning. My dining companion ordered a salad which he seemed to enjoy as well. The service was great and they got us in and out relatively fast. Overall, a good experience and I'd come back if looking for a lunch spot in the area. read more

The servers are attentive and nice, though when it is busy they definitely try to get the tables turned over efficiently on weekends. The decor makes it feel homey. I recommend getting Frida's panini, breakfast burrito, or enchiladas. I get something new every time. If you go on a weekend, make a reservation as it gets busy. I came in search of chilaquiles. I've heard that this restaurant serves the same amazing chilaquiles that they used to sell at Danny's in the city (which has closed down a few years back) and honesty? They weren't wrong. These chilaquiles were fire. Crispy chips, super flavorful verde sauce, perfectly cooked egg. I added shredded pork to it and it took it up an extra notch. This is my 2nd visit to Frida's this year. The 1st time I had the chorizo hash. Which is what I'll get next time I head here. This morning I went 180 degrees in the other direction and the Bananas Foster French Toast. It's really good. Loads of sweet flavor. As usual I was able to get a seat early with no wait. While the atmosphere has changed quite a bit, this place still continues to retain its unique charm. Now service on the other hand was mixed to say the least. While it was nothing to write home about, things turned uncomfortable when we began paying for our service. Our server Jess was initially friendly, however her behavior noticeably changed suddenly when it came to the tipping amount. Despite tipping the standard amount, she was rather rude and quite frankly discourteous. Best brunch spot in Evanston! I've gone to Frida's twice with family and friends and the food is simply spot on. Yes it can get busy and yes there can be a wait even if you made a reservation. Regardless, it's worth the experience if you're patient. My favorite here is the Steak Chilaquiles. It's pricey but you get a good 2-3 meals out of it. Service is overall friendly and efficient. During the summer months, they have outdoor dining on the sidewalk. Parking is challenging but a paid public parking garage is available 1 block east near the intersection of Chicago and Church street. read more

We were in the area and decided to stop for brunch and had a wonderfully unexpected experience. We started off ordering a brunch mojito and Paloma. Then we ordered the mascarpone crepes and the corned beef hash skillet. Both dishes and drinks were absolutely amazing. I see why the mascarpone crepes are one of the top recommended items. Both portions were very large, my husband had to help me finish the crepes and we took half of the corned beef hash home. I can not wait to come back! Made a brunch reservation during Evanston's Big Fork arts festival as I knew this is a reliable spot. I don't know if I missed something, but the reservation process was a little tricky (I had to submit a request for a reservation and wait for an email to confirm it within a couple days). This is a hot spot well deserving of the attention. It's a charming, vibrant interior, very colorful and cheerful. It's a cozy, busy, somewhat noisy spot, so it's great fun for weekend brunch. What I really appreciate is how busy the restaurant was and how our service did not suffer. We were attended to perfectly. The food was great with a few small notes that made me knock a star. We got passionfruit margaritas and they were served without the salt rim. We weren't asked if we wanted a salt rim, and I did miss it on my margarita, but that's far from a dealbreaker. The drinks are BIG for the price and they pack a punch. AND they tasted great! I ordered the mamacita enchiladas, which is somewhat of a signature dish. I really enjoyed it, but one of my eggs was perfectly cooked (runny) and the other was cooked hard. The mole was delicious, but I would say too salty. Otherwise, the dish was fantastic. My sister ordered the breakfast burger. Our server asked her temperature preference, and she ordered medium. The burger arrived well-done. It was still juicy and delicious, but I would be hesitant to order a burger or steak dish because of this. I've been to Frida's before and I would happily go back again. Frida's is one of the best breakfast restaurants in Evanston. I don't believe that they accept reservations, but they can put your name on the waiting list if there is a wait. My husband and I arrived in the early afternoon and didn't have a wait, but it looked like other larger groups were waiting for tables when we arrived. My main dish was the Fundido Benedict. This benedict came with two eggs, chorizo, ham, cheese and a chipotle hollandaise sauce, and pico de gallo. The ingredients together were delicious. I'm normally very unimpressed by the breads used with benedicts at other restaurants, but this bread tasted extremely fresh. The texture of the bread was also perfect for withstanding all of the toppings. We ordered one of their French Toast specials to share and that was also amazing. Service is consistently friendly and attentive. I once again ordered the avocado omelette, generously stuffed with avocado, balanced well with the chicken sausage and cheese and with a slight kick from the tomatillo(?) sauce on top. I love that it also comes with a pumpkin muffin- perfect to save for later. The atmosphere is lively and cheerful. You really can't go wrong by dining at Frida's! I've ordered here a couple of times from the hospital (my workplace) for a weekend brunch. The delivery service is impeccable, and the food usually gets there within the hour even on a Sunday.
