This spot is such a classic! I have been coming here for many years and always love coming back. Just an FYI that it is cash only. They also have an ATM machine if you don't have cash. Generally this location is usually pretty busy almost every time I have been here. Not too loud, definitely a place where you chill and hang with your friends over some wonderful wings! The food comes out pretty fast though & it's a spot where you can order, eat, and leave in a reasonable time. The wings have gotten a little smaller over the years, but I still come back because it's just so good. My usual order are the spicy wings and waffle fries. I must be crazy, why have I not reviewed this spot because I've been here a million times...whelp better late than never...or I'm just going to go with its right on time for me LOL. My go to order is a double order of spicy with at least 3 orders of buffalo chips so I can eat one bag on the way home. I'm not greedy I'm just being realistic. The seasoning on the waffle cut fries makes the greasy bag irresistible and making sure I have some for the fam by having my own car snack home is a win for everyone. I've ordered single pans and whole pans for parties and their wings are always sooooo good. We thought it was really solid! Called ahead on NYE around 4:15 and was quoted for 5pm pickup. It worked out perfectly with a stop on the way from home. We shared the double order of Spicy Well Done Traditional Wings. That sauce was TASTY let me tell ya. I haven't had wings like this before where they're completely drenched. I personally loved it but my husband wants to do dry next time with sauce on the side. We also want to try suicide in hopes it's still buttery/creamy with more heat. We came all the way from River north and it absolutely exceeded all expectations. It is a cash only so make sure you bring cash! The place let us place our order and then we ran across the street to grab cash. There's not much seating in the front, but they have a larger seating area in the back. They don't necessarily have servers coming around, but if you don't clean up your garbage, someone will pick it up, but please also pick up your own garbage like a normal person. This has to wing ratio was on par. The wings refresh and since they were made to order, they were perfectly coated. Price was relatively fair. Unfortunately, the seats were not very comfortable, but the place was pretty packed when we went. Since it's right on Northwestern's campus, there were a ton of students. We got an order of the mild and the spicy wings, but I think we preferred the spicy. Definitely some of my favorite wings of all time. The buffalo sauce and ranch is unmatched. The waffle fries at this location are always cooked well and soooo good! It's a very casual restaurant, so don't expect anything fancy. The staff are not always the most welcoming at the front and when ordering. There is plentiful seating in the back of the restaurant, making it a great spot to enjoy food with friends. We like this location better than the one on Howard for a variety of reasons. This establishment has been operating since the 90's and they have not contributed one dollar towards remodeling the physical appearance and atmosphere. It looks like a dump when you go in there. It does not feel or look clean, the staff working where the food is being prepared looks untidy and unclean. They don't wear gloves or hair nets. The women wear long hair extensions that is not pulled back or covered, their uniforms look filthy, and some of the workers are extremely rude and unpleasant. I've walked in there and my stomach turned immediately just from the physical appearance of the restaurant and the staff working in the food preparation area. The owners need to do better! I truly feel that this establishment is and has violated many health codes in operating this restaurant and it needs to be addressed. It is literally disgusting to look at! It is appalling to know that they are still operating under this condition and that they've not had to do anything to correct this. The city and health department needs to intervene and shut the business down so that they can reinvent themselves and literally clean it up! When you dine in the restaurant, the benches and are broken missing planks that you sit on. The smell of the unclean bathroom permeates throughout the sitting area, the tables are not wiped clean, there is garbage (napkins, etc) sometimes on the floors. It is so unfortunate because the food is good, but because of the condition of the establishment and what I see upon entering, I prefer to stay away. @CityofEvanston, @HealthDepartment, PLEASE make them clean up and remodel the restaurant! read more

Took a nostalgia trip back to Buff Joes, and I it was like nothing changed. Went for the spicy wings, just like I remembered. Waffle fries were perfectly crispy with just a little too much salt like always. Same weird pictures on the walls. Plus the only place that is keeping RC cola still in business (Gut Buster is a drink size). Glad to see this treasure from my Northwestern days made it through. The suicide sauce has my heart. It's not that spicy, but has all the flava. And cheddar chips are a necessity. The inside has not changed in the last 20 years. You order at one end of the counter, then wait for your food. Once your food's ready, pay at the register. Grab an oatmeal chocochip cookie if you can! With my boyfriend claiming his last meal on Earth would be Buffalo Joe's, I had high expectations for this joint. And Buff Joe's delivered! Definitely my favorite buffalo flavored meal, since their sauce isn't crazy strong and has more of a cheesy flavor. The chicken patty is fried with a thin coating and not a crunchy (or soggy but thick) shell of batter, doused in the sauce, and perched on a bed of lettuce and tomatoes. The hamburger bun is nothing special, so all the magic was the chicken and the sauce! I think taking the tomatoes out helps you taste more of the flavor but that's just me (and everyone else in my group)! The the meat was tender and so, so good. The fries were ahhhh-mazing. Even though the waffle fries really crispy at all, the salt and pepper seasoning combo was addicting!
