I had never been here before/didn't really know about it. It's a hidden gem and much bigger than I was expecting it to be! I came here for trivia last night with a few friends who love this place. The food looks great (I had already eaten, so I didn't partake this time), and I appreciate that they have quite a few vegetarian/vegan options. Their beer menu is extensive and my friends liked all the varieties they tried, and they have a few NA options as well. All the staff were super friendly. It's a great space. I'll be back. Side note: Parking was a bit complicated, as the lot isn't big enough for the size of the venue, but there are street parking options around. I'm not much of a beer drinker and rarely make it to the bars these day (#old), but my first thought when walking in was how have I not been to an event here. It's spacious and a super cool venue, which was used for my daughter's high school fundraiser last weekend. I visited Double Clutch twice within one week. The first was a meeting held at the venue right before the event where everyone got to enjoy some beer (except those of us who don't love beer and opted for water) and some of the food that would be served at the event the following weekend. I munched on some turnbuckle pretzels, fried buffalo bites and cauli wings- all were pretty good! A few days later we sold out with a 300 person event, although honestly we could have fit way more in the space because there was plenty of room to move around. The band Go Ask Your Mum was playing lots of fun 80s and 90s hits, there was a buffet of the food we had tried a few days beforehand and the bar was busy. I opted for wine, which was good. The acoustics here aren't great, which i noticed during the meeting and during the event. The band was fun to listen to, but i could hardly hear anyone i was speaking to. Pros: drag bingo Tuesdays are fun. And if you're not into bingo or want a quieter experience, there's another side of the brewery where you can do that. Beer is solid. Cars are fun to look at. Steak salad and the beer battered fries are delicious! Cons: parking can be a challenge - the parking lot is small. But street parking isn't too hard. Not a place to bring young kids - they will want to see and get close to the cars and you will need to be on their heels - yes you will get chastised if your kids get too close. There's too much temptation everywhere for them! Pricing is odd - some items are surprisingly more expensive than you'd expect - this includes pints of beer. The brewmaster here consistently produces exceptional beers. The food however has taken a turn for the worse. The menu is now sandwiches and apps only. The "steak" sandwich at $20 was scarcely thicker than 2 slices of deli roast beef. The "tabouleh" that my wife had as a side was completely gross. As a person of middle eastern descent, and someone who has had this many places and makes it at home, they should be ashamed to serve that as a representation of their brand. The lesson is to come for the amazing beers and really solid apps. Have dinner elsewhere, unless sandwiches for dinner is your thing. read more

We came here for trivia night and left pretty disappointed. The food was just okay, nothing memorable, and the drinks were fine but not worth the price. Overall, everything felt overpriced for the quality. Unfortunately, the trivia experience was the low point. The announcer was difficult to understand, didn't run the game smoothly, and seemed more focused on trying to be a comedian than being a clear, professional emcee. When our group had to leave midway because someone wasn't feeling well, he actually heckled us, which felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. Never knew about this brewery in Evanston and so glad we found it. A large brewery with indoor and outdoor seating. A collection of antique and classic cars in an area for large groups. My husband had a flight, a selection of lagers, pilsner and of course little juice coupe. They also serve food and had the pulled pork sammy and double clutch burger and clutch curds. I hosted a party last weekend at Double Clutch and i have to say the entire event was phenomenal. The food was amazing, plus there were a multitude of options. The party included guests of all ages and they had a set up and seating plan that accommodated all types. And the service was perfection! I can't recall the last event I was at where ten people came up to me asking if they could add to the tip for the servers. I have to call out Rachel, Gio, Blake, Duncan and Felix for treating 125 guests as if they were family. While I was too busy having a blast at my own party to take many photos, the food was awesome. I had a slider station with 4 different sliders, a skewer station with 5 different skewers, and they arranged to have plenty of vegetarian options at both stations. And my guests all raved about the craft beer options. My grandson is still raving about the Batmobile which was a crowd favorite and in many photos! read more

Popped down to Evanston for the afternoon, an area that's new to me, so it was my first time at Double Clutch. Definitely a great spot to meet with friends, grab some drinks, and enjoy tasty food. A group of us sat out on the patio, which is a tent-covered area adjacent to the parking lot. I did have a glance inside however, and it's one big space! High ceilings, bright and airy, big long tables. Seemed like a nice atmosphere. Our server, and the support staff running out food, were all very attentive. I opted for a beer first - the choice just felt right since we were at a brewery - and enjoyed hefeweizen; cold and refreshing. I'm not someone who can drink more than one however, as they're really filling so I swapped to a strawberry seltzer. It was pretty good but a bitttt to sweet for my taste. We order some apps to share: cheese curds (always a good idea), buffalo cauliflower wings (really liked these and their spice), and 'turnbuckle' pretzles (soft & warm sticked with a few nice dipping sauces). My friend and I split the steak salad for a main after that, and it was good! Probably not worth the $18 price tag though. I'd come back & bring even more friends! This place is a winner for me. It was my first time visiting Double Clutch and it won't be the last. We sat at the bar on a Saturday night. The service was friendly and attentive from both bartenders. They were great at answering questions about their beers, and their suggestions were spot on. For food, we tried the BAVARIAN BURGER and THE SCHNITZEL. Both sandwiches were AMAZING. The sides of BIER-BATTERED SIDEWINDERS were so addicting. For drinks, the Kolsch and the Pilsner were solid. Standouts: Their silver-medaled Helles Lager (I'm not usually huge on beer but this was amazing), Saturday Special Bavarian Burger, their Bier-Battered Sidewinder Fries, and Pickle Soup (I was intrigued, and it was excellent with the burger and fries). The prices are pretty good for a craft brewery, and there's live music and other reasons to get something. Came here recently mostly for the beers. It was kind of crowded but not too much. The place is kind of small so any kind of crowd will make it seem crowded though. Looks like it used to be a garage. The car theme makes a good one. Beers are the main things to get. It's about $7 a pint. We had a few of these. I liked the Altbier. This was light and refreshing. As for the food, it has typical bar stuff mostly. It's about $6 for the Chips And Salsa. Also they have Veggie Chili. There's some vegan and healthy options. Gets crowded in the small space but it's still not as busy with it being far away from the campus craziness. Had a really nice time at Double Clutch Brewing. We were a little concerned when we arrived because there was a wedding (!) taking place that was using up a lot of tables, and the initial wait estimate was 20-30 minutes at about 5:30 on a Saturday. We lucked out though, and after checking out the classic cars on display (seems like they're changed out regularly based on the other Yelp pictures posted here) for less than 10 minutes, we were seated. The ladies in charge of the hostess stand could not have been nicer. I ordered the Smoked Slagel Farm Brat, and it was very good -- I would definitely order it again. The "bier-battered sidewinders" that came on the side were just ok, though. They were in desperate need of seasoning. If it's an option, I would ask for a different side item next time. Maybe onion rings? My wife had The Grilled Dill, which is essentially an artisan grilled cheese sandwich with sliced dill pickles served with a cup of pickle soup. I despise pickles and everything about them, so obviously didn't try it, but she said it was delicious. The restaurant is definitely family-friendly. I didn't see evidence of a printed kids menu, but the classics are available: mac & cheese (cup or bowl), chicken tenders, a cheeseburger. Be aware of the 2.5% charge added to all checks "to help cover the cost of health care, 401(k) and other fringe benefits provided" to the employees. It is not mandatory. read more
