At 4pm on a weekday it was already bustling, and this place is popular for good reason! The entire vibe and the staff are just super cool. Even the bathrooms are an experience, with heavy metal music blasting in a way that just adds to the unique charm. To drink, I tried the lucky linny and blood orange sour, which were both fantastic. I'm not typically a huge beer person, but after this visit I'm well on my way to crossing to the other side. For the appetizer, we split the cheese curds. I really liked the Korean inspired twist and the kimchi aioli served alongside. I think it could've used a little more salt and arrived warmer for a nice cheese pull, but otherwise it was enjoyable. I opted for the double cheeseburger as the main event, and it was really well done. The beef was juicy, perfectly cooked, with ample high quality cheese and caramelized onions. My friend and I were fortunate to get two seats at the bar because this place was packed at 6:00pm on the Friday we went. But after settling in, the bartender took care of us, and I very much appreciated the $5 pints on special because most things seemed to cost a few bucks more than it needed to. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was worth it, though. The mac and cheese, even with bacon added, topped out at okay. With the demise of local breweries closing left and right, we are glad that OIB is surviving and thriving. We recently came for Happy Hour with our friends. Stopped in on a Saturday at noon and there was no wait. Plenty of seating in the section next to the bar. By 1pm the place was pretty full. Came for just the food after going to the Balloon Museum. Started with the fried zucchini. Zucchini was shaved thin and had a pretty crispy breading. There was a nice touch of lemon that added a brightness and a hollandaise sauce. I wasn't sure if the sauce had broke but there was quit e a bit of oil on the plate. The sauce broke as it was quite oily underneath. Overall was pretty tasty but the large amount of oil underneath was not the best. For entree ordered the burger of the week. It had I believe pimento cheese, Giardiniera, crispy onion and tomato. The burger was cooked to my ordered temp and the patty was large. The patty was very juicy, the brioche bun was buttery and the cheese and giardiniera added a little heat. Was a great tasting burger. The fries were breaded and were crispy with a nice garlic flavor. I usually don't like breaded fries but these had a nice crisp to them and the garlic flavor was great. Nice Brewery in Irving Park. I heard the fried zuchinni bites were good here (and it's not something I would normally order) and they were fantastic! The combination of toppings/sauce with it tasted so good and I would order this again! I also opted for the surf & turf skewers, I was not mad at this choice either, they were served on top of some potatos and came with three skewers, the shrimp had a perfect char taste and the chimichurri sauce paired nicely on top! Service was okay, nothing to rave about but also not horrible. The vibes are fun, one side is more bar/high top tables and the other more dining but there are TV's throughout. Absolutely loved this brewery! They were slammed since we went there on a NFL playoff Saturday but waited at the bar and got a couple of drinks. I've come back so many times now and every time I come back, I want to visit more frequently than I do. The cocktails are great, the food is amazing, and the beer is great. I only say the beer isn't amazing out of spite because they don't brew my favorite beer of theirs anymore (Undergrowth), but they had a couple really cool winter beers - the spruce one especially was great. But the food is so consistently good, the menu is diverse yet somehow it all feels very Old Irving and it's all delicious, leaving you with some really difficult decisions as to what to eat. Only downside is they're always busy. Definitely expect to wait to get a table. The good news is that there's a fair amount of space to stand and drink while you wait. We tried Old Irving for lunch one Friday afternoon. We arrived just as they opened along with several other patrons. It was exciting to see that they are liked well enough that people were lining up to get in! The down side of this, was the staff member at the front desk had to seat each and everyone one of us. He didn't ask our preference, and started in the back of the big dining room and worked his way up...all while not making eye contact or speaking to anyone. It felt a little odd and cold. The seating is also tight. Next time I think we will opt for bar seating. I loved our sever though! He was so sweet, made suggestions, and he genuinely made me laugh several time. Such a sweet soul. The food menu has so many interesting choices. We choice the burger special, and it was ok. It was a $19 burger, and I didn't think that it was anything to write home about. The beers did not disappoint. My favorite was the cushy mango peach fruited sour. I liked in so much that I've since bought a four pack. This is one of the great breweries for food (and the beer isn't bad either). The vegetarian options are good, with the ZLTA being the star. They also have rotating burger and wing specials. Generally when you visit a brewery you can pick a spot that has good beer and just ok food, or great food and just ok beer. Old Irving has great beer AND great food. We sampled a few items off their menu and found everything to be cooked amazing. Unfortunately I only snapped a pic of the cheese curds, but they are a must order. Beers here are very solid. Beezer is a must order for any hazy ipa fan. Their barrel program is also quite good. I had a BA barleywine that was amazing. The reverie rye was a really clean and bitter pale ale with a hint of rye spice. Pretty cool space inside with a full bar if beer isn't your thing, but they are brewing (and cooking) up some great stuff here! read more

My family had been here in the past, so I had some knowledge of the restuarant, and I had their beers at tastings, and was impressed by some. Two of the items that impressed me were the Brussels Sprouts with pickled shaved squash, and the garlic fries, but the cheese dip was very blad as was the nearly identically tasting aioli. The burger of the week was cooked to medium rare, but the giardinera was a very bland and not spicy at all. My wife's octopus was very tough, and wasn't tenderized enough. Ruben was run of the mill. Prices were quite above average for a brewpub. Breezer IPA was tasty and well brewed. Service was fine. ADA accessibility needs some improvement. This place is larger than it seems! Heard good things about their burger and happened to be within the general area and wanted to give them a try. We beat the dinner rush and yet there was still a wait - which we took to be a good sign. We waited at this bench which had giant pillows to rest your back on which were really comfortable. They could probably turn that into seating instead of a waiting area. The immediate bar area feels like a bar but the backroom had a much larger seating area that was comfortable for larger parties and those with kids. Once seated service was excellent and the food very good. The cocktails veered on strong but were otherwise tasty. The beer was tasty and also as described. And the food surprised us in a good way. The burger came with a skewer flagging our requested temperature and was reportedly tasty. The reuben balls were perfectly fried. This bread bowl soup of roasted cauliflower might cause me to reconsider my relationship with cauliflower. Although my shrimp were overcooked on my skewers the steak bits were some of the best medium rare pieces of beef I've had this year. If I was forced to choose between overcooked shrimp or undercooked beef I would've made the same call - hopefully they let them just cook on separate skewers next time. I would try their steak entrée next time without a second thought given what I ate. The fudge brownie special had buttercream on top instead of ice cream which was definitely different but I'm not sure if better. My pick tonight. I had the wood fire burger, 8oz prime mix of brisket, short rib and chuck with white cheddar, crispy and caramelized onions and garlic vinegar aioli on a toasted brioche bun. Cooked perfectly medium rare with nice char and hugely juicy. Great beef flavor and the aioli was just right. The bun held up very well against all that juice. The garlic fries were just ok, not fresh cut. Now for the not so good. Donna had a Reuben that looked great- plenty of corned beef, nicely toasted rye bread. The menu said it had old fashioned sauerkraut but it tasted more like a cole slaw. Just didn't work for either of us. There were other menu items that looked good. Thirty minute drive to get there, so it may be a while before we go back. We had two beers each, 1st round was IPAs. Beezer for me and Scentinel for Donna. Mine was hazy and very citrus forward. Donna's was more filtered. Both were clean and strong. 2nd round for me was Lucky Linny- an Irish ale with strong roasted malt flavor. Donna had a west coast pilsner called Doji. Much lighter bodied but still plenty of flavor. The brewers clearly know what they're doing. read more

My wife and I popped in for lunch on a Friday, they open at noon and there was already a line of people ready to enter. In hindsight, I would recommend sitting in the bar area. Why? Because the seating in the big room was managed by the host stand, one group at a time, whether they were there to purchase some take home, imbibe onsite, or dine, so it created a bottleneck of sorts. That plus the sitting in the big room was pretty rank and file, think start from the back and work towards the front, which means whoever was in front of you or behind you in line will most definitely be your table neighbors. So not a lot of autonomy to be had in the big room like other beer places. The good news, they have plenty of good beer. The stand outs this visit were the wild turkey barrel stout and the cushy mango peach fruited sour. They really nail the sour, like Goldilocks it is right down the middle, not too sour, not too fruity or sweet, but just right. It kind of had the mouthfeel of a cider or wine. We opted to share the burger of the week as it was a double decker and sounded promising and indulgent. Honestly, it was meh, I was expecting a little more for a $19 burger. I did note that they feature grilled octopus on their entree menu and I am curious to try that. It was also mentioned that their key lime pie dessert is homemade, we opted to save that for next visit as well. The staff were friendly and accommodating and I did note that most were older, myself included, so kudos to OIB for showing them some love, it's way too few and far between in todays job market.
