Yup my love and I wandered into Gideon Welles on Lincoln Avenue on a frigid Halloween evening and decided to go with their Taco Tuesday special deal. My love went with 2 shrimp tacos for $7, while my two ground beef tacos rung up for only $6. She dug her shrimp tacos and a side of onion rings. While I thought the beef tacos were AOK, I really liked the bowl of French onion soup on this chilly night. It was loaded with onions and had the cheesy bread on top - nom nom. Service was good, as the bartender noticed we were fiddling with the wobbly table and he wedged a beer coaster under one of the table legs. I was craving a burger on a sunny Saturday afternoon and wanted to enjoy some nice weather. I had heard of Gideon Welles through various local places and decided to give it a try. I was immediately seated outside because their patio is DOG FRIENDLY! :) The patio was quite large and had a nice view of the park across the street. The area was fairly quiet and not noisy on the street. The service was quick and they even brought my dog water with ice cubes (her favorite). I decided to have a beer with my burger and went with the Begyle Blonde. Good size and good value. I also built my own burger since you could choose 3 toppings and was surprised with how big the bacon pieces were. Admittedly, I was a bit sad with the avocado, it was two thin slices and you'd be better off getting guacamole instead if you choose that topping. I also went with white cheddar and liked that cheese. The fries were really good, too! I liked the onion ring on top. Overall, a great place to spend a sunny Saturday. Do not go here. Terrible, unwelcoming service from start to finish. My friend and I walked in sober and were treated like a problem -- the staff were rude and dismissive, and the bartender was wildly unprofessional: slurring words, moving sluggishly, and behaving in a way that strongly gave the impression he was impaired. Based on how he acted and how he treated paying customers, he clearly shouldn't be behind the bar -- management should seriously consider firing him. On top of that the place is dirty and disgusting: sticky floors, grimy tables, and bathrooms that look like they haven't been cleaned in ages. The food was bland, greasy, and borderline inedible. Between the awful service, the unwelcoming attitude, the filthy conditions, and the terrible food, this place is not worth your time or money. read more

It was my first time coming here and I had anticipated ordering the shepherds pie... When the waiter brought it out, I immediately noticed a burnt smell... Then I could see it, the mashed potatoes and cheese on top were pretty burnt. I should've sent it back for a redo, but I swallowed my pride and dug in anyway. After a few fork fulls of the burnt mashed potatoes & cheese I couldn't take it anymore because it was baked to the point where all you taste is char so I pushed them off to the side... What was underneath was a delicious shepherds pie filling that was not burnt but was hot, very rich and tasty. If I do decide to come back here and try the shepherds pie again, I would definitely mention to the waitstaff... PLEASE Don't over bake it . read more

A typical sports bar. Good beer list But from there.... It goes downhill! Ordered a flatbread that came burnt black all over, and sadly tasted the best. The artichoke dip tasted like oil & was freezing cold. The burger had no seasoning. And the chicken quesadilla was cold & beyond bland tasting. Oh and the extra dirty gin martini... NO clue what they made it with but it was gross whatever it was. All the guns on their list I've had and enjoy so it wasn't that. It didn't even taste like olives. So NO clue. We wanted so much to like this place, but after extra slow service, too loud TVs blaring in all Directions, and the disgusting off tasting food & drinks - we will not be back, and def won't recommend this place to anyone except to say... go somewhere else & save your $$$. read more

I stopped by your outside tables during the Square Roots. Festival. A hostess stopped by with some water but that was it. Oddly, enough the server came by to all the other tables but ours, twice. This matched up with the fact that our table was mixed couples while the others were not. At first I thought they were hitting all the tables but I watched as the server went to the tables on both sides of us without actually stopping at ours, twice. This is the best pub in my neighborhood: good ambiance, great selection of drinks, very good food, wonderful staff. Some of my favorite menu items are the mac and cheese (add some cherry tomatoes and bacon, trust me), Glastonbury burger, pulled pork sandwich, and apple salad. We visited this place in the Friday evening to celebrate. It was busy around the bar area but we luckily found less busy seats in the back space. The burger was surprisingly big and I was never tired of the juicy pulled pork. It was very much meaty and the bbq sauce was tasty. Flench fries was also good. Well... this place has a nice menu and decent drinks but we waited over an hour for our order of fries, fish tacos and a Reuben with not so much as a word about why it was taking so long. Our server was sweet and obviously isn't the one cooking the food but... that's an absurdly long ticket time without any communication. I have been taking my family here for almost 5 years. We love this place. It has a great neighborhood feel to it and the food is fantastic. Sam provides outstanding service and always goes out of her way to interact with our kids. The owner, Eoghan is there often, works hard supporting the staff and is extremely friendly. I highly recommend the brunch on the weekends. They have $8 kid's meals and the quality is supreme. If you are looking to watch a game, this is also your spot. This was a Monday night when most of our 1st choices where closed or a 1 hour+ wait so hoping this was a not the usual kitchen staff but some menu item seem to indicate this is standard. Nice staff but some of the worst food I've ever had. Flatbread was a dry burnt flour Tortilla although wild mushrooms goat cheese topping was nice. Burgers ordered medium rare and rare both medium well. Onion rings$8 basically burger King frozen ones, grilled chicken sandwich had 1 piece of dry toast and the other completely soft, all fries over cooked and my sons fish and chip also dry and overcooked. Having passed by Gideon Welles a million and two times, our visit was well past due. At 7:00pm on a Friday, we were seated immediately. That's always a huge plus in my book! We started with Crispy Goat Cheese, which was nothing less than impressive. It was two medium-sized balls of breaded cheese on top of marinara and oil. On the side was 6 pieces of grilled sourdough bread. Perfect for two people to share as an appetizer! I ordered the Flatbread Pizza as a main entree since I wasn't starving. It was small, so don't order this if you have a serious appetite! The flavors were delicious- spinach, bacon, mozzarella and tomatoes on a legit flatbread. My boyfriend ordered the Gideon Burger, and we both agreed it was a solid, meaty burger. Fries are included in the price (although that tidbit isn't listed on the menu), but it's a small portion. He ordered an accompanying $5 beer of the month to round out his meal! Our server Sam was friendly and enthusiastic and had all of the dishes out with great timing. The only tiny flaw was that we had to wait until the very end of our meal for our waters to be a filled. We will definitely be back for delicious and semi-cheap food in the neighborhood! From the most outstanding service from Ola mixing, AND serving tasty Bloody Mary's, to the most delicious food served in a timely manner to a starving crowd, then continuing to meet all our needs...one just has to know they shall be sure to be back! The Reuben, the Mac and Cheese, and the Wrap were just a few of the selections that were so very good! Came in on Sunday. They charged my card for the wrong amount and then told me they reversed the charge. Turns out they didn't. They charged me for both my ticket and someone else's. I messaged them...no response. I called and was told the owner would call me back...he/she didn't. I will now have to deal with my credit card and disputing the charge. Never, never, never come here. This is a terrible place. Isabella was our bartender who made the mistake and I wish I would have gotten the manager's name who said he took care of the charge. Awful place! Don't come here. read more
