From the moment I arrived at Estereo, Al made me feel welcome, comfortable, and safe. He has a way of reading people and creating an atmosphere where you feel like you belong, even if you're from out of town. He was professional, respectful, and genuinely went out of his way to make sure I had a great experience. What stood out most was that he didn't just do his job as security... he helped with local recommendations and made me feel like more than just another customer walking through the door. People like Al are a big part of what makes a place memorable, and Estereo is lucky to have someone like him representing the front of the house.

The show started at 9pm, so we got there right around 8:30. There was plenty of seats when we got there (though it did start to fill up by around 9:15/9:30). It's no reservations and no cover, which I think makes the experience a little more relaxed. I ordered the red diamond cocktail, which came with mezcal, cognac, hibiscus, lemon, lime, & absinthe. The flavor mix was really good and I'm hoping to try more drinks there. The jazz quintet was great as well. We just stayed for the first set which lasted until about 10:15, but really enjoyed the skilled musicianship. Definitely enjoyed my experience a lot and hope to be back!

Yet, the bartenders greet us with such a warm and friendly energy that I know with absolute certainly that I have been a regular at this bar for years. Decades. Centuries. I know within my soul that this was my go-to bar in a past life (and hopefully in the next). Just as welcoming as the awesome people are the $1 PBRs and $3 shots of tequila. And of course they hand out free hot dogs every night at midnight, which in my (intoxicated) mind was cemented as the definitive Chicago dog, even if it comes with no toppings whatsoever. And fittingly complementing the amazing energy of the bar is a 10 hour Youtube video of that memed Ukrainian kid dancing at a club playing endlessly on the TVs. Rocking sunglasses and looking like a stud, absolutely grooving without a single care in the world, and effortlessly matching every single song on the bar's playlist. That kid truly embodies the spirit of this bar. No matter what day it is, what time of day it is, or who visits, the bar's energy always works. And I'll just say that every single one was unique, perfectly balanced (no rogue flavors), and so much fun. I went here a couple years ago for their composition book menu, but had to come back to try their new Ad Astra space themed menu. I absolutely love the concept. All the cocktails are inspired by a planet. We tried the moon, mars, saturn, earth, and pluto. Loved all of them! They were all super inventive. Meadowlark is definitely in my top 5 cocktail bars in Chicago because I love the speakeasy aspect and also how unique their menus always are. Can't wait to see what they do next!
