A group of 20+ of us stopped in for drinks on a Saturday. The bartender was the best!! She was extremely friendly and attentive to all guests. I think this is a spot where you order your food/drinks at the bar and bring it to wherever you decide to sit. Since there were so many of us we decided to utilize the back room which also has a pool table. I didn't order any food but a few from our group did. They all raved about the burgers. Extremely friendly bartender instantly makes you feel comfortable. Comfy seats for a bar, love some back support when sitting on bar stools. Onion Rings: Comes out fast, tastes good especially the ranch which many places like to water down their ranch, not the case here. This place is GREAT! I can't count how many times I've driven by this place over the years. Always amused by the sign. We walk in. Heavy neighborhood vibe, looks to be full of regulars. This is fine! Up front is the kitchen, with one busy guy cooking. We ordered pizza, and it was GOOD - I don't mind admitting it was WAY more delicious than we expected it would be. Beverages. There is something for everyone. I'm lookin' at you, my beer snob bro, they have Dovetail! And other interesting looking cans. They have cans of Finnish Long Drink, which I've not seen in any other bar. An array of flavored seltzers, beers on tap, and everything spotless and neatly arranged in under back bar refrigerators. A quick glance is enough to pick a delicious and refreshing beverage. WOMAN OWNED, the bartenders are friendly, awesome and sassy - I get the feeling they do not suffer fools at this place, and that is just fine with me! I came here with about 7 people from a meetup group after we got done with the shooting range a few blocks down the street. This bar is basically a dive bar. The have a few good beers on tap and a few basic bottles. I saw that they had weekly specials up on the board, and a few other good cocktail selections. They have a full menu ranging from appetizers, pizzas, burgers, salads and even a few desserts. I'm not sure if there is a full kitchen out back, but there was one man preparing all the food inside of the bar (as in literally when you walk in, he's to your left preparing the food). I would've assumed that he'd be extra aware of his surrounding since people can clearly see how he's cooking, but he wasn't wearing any gloves. I ended up just ordering an Angry Orchard, but a few others ordered food along with their drinks. The bartender was very friendly, but she was basically running the whole place alone. She was taking drink and food orders, while also delivering food to the tables. They might have been understaffed that day, but it was still okay service. Everyone who ordered food said it was good. It's basically pub food, nothing out of the ordinary, just greasy goodness. I'll probably stop by if I am ever in the area again. Black Sheep is a great neighborhood spot on West Peterson-West Ridge/Arcadia Terrace neighborhoods. Daily drink and food specials, diverse, lively crowd, TV's, jukebox, pool table and Jeppson's Malort. Service is friendly and attentive, food menu has some standard offerings as well as inventive options. Food is great, I'd travel to eat there or carryout. Pretty impressive for not quite "old school" or "hipster" spot. Long bar with stools, some high top tables, along with booth seating in the adjoining room making this dependable place whatever you want it to be. read more

I've gone to this bar off and on regularly over the years. Originally it was the place we would go every Wednesday after golfing at R.A. Black and they had a very good taco special. Now my wife and I go occasionally for the fish fry on Friday which is very good with generous portions. The service can be a bit slow, but hey what's the rush? I've driven past this place a million times and always find their sign entertaining. I wasn't sure what to expect. It's clearly a place for neighborhood locals. It's a little divey. The service was good. The bartenders very friendly. Decent beer selection given it's basically a dive bar. Their food menu options were cheap. My friend had a burger. It looked pretty good. I'd eaten before we met and just went for the mac and cheese bites. The parking lot is a bonus. The reason for the low stars...smoking! We sat on the patio, which is apparently smokers' row. Everyone at every table except us was lighting up. I know we were outside but it was making me ill. I wish this place enforced no smoking on the patio like most others. Was visiting town and wanted to wet my whistle at a local bar and not a chain. Ended up eating there as I didn't want to leave and became quite hungry smelling and seeing all the food. Wasn't disappointed in the least. I had a beef sandwich (try to sample from everywhere I go in Chicago) and some wings. Both delicious!!! No complaints about the service at all. I never once had to wait for a beer. The bartender was friendly as could be and the locals were pleasant too. But who can't find something in common with a Chicagoan? Was verbally assaulted by a regular patron and told to STFU multiple times by him I front of the entire bar at 7:30pm... the bartender sided with him by excusing him as being a regular... told us to ignore the verbal assault and continue on as if nothing happened. Who the hell trained you? This is a click dive bar where regulars own the place. Bartender was an absolute joke who sided with the idiot regular. Complete joke and can't wait until your regulars drive you out of business with their cheap beers and lack of tips. Ownership is clueless to hire those bartenders. If you want to feel welcome at a new place, do not come here. Go next door to the liquor store and buy booze - at least you won't leave your full drink and leave in disgust. I never really came here when it was Emerald's Isle but started coming here a few months ago on Friday's to decompress from my biochem class. It started with my friend and I coming then it became a group of us coming here every Friday. Why do we keep coming back? Alison, for one, is amazing! She really is so sweet and she is amazing at making the drinks we request! The drinks are super cheap here and they aren't stingy with the liquor either! I also want to say the food is pretty great! The group are huge chicken tender fanatics and I got the fish tacos. I would def say better than average bar food! Great service, cheap drinks, and delicious food! If I could give this bar 0 starts, I would. I came here to watch the Cubs World Series game 3 and could not have been more disappointed by the service and treatment at this establishment. I'm usually very understanding, having worked in the industry myself, so I understand it gets busy and the kitchen gets overwhelmed. What was upsetting is that our server never even had the decency to check on us after taking our order. I had to flag down a child, who I believe is the son(?) of the owner of the establishment, to even check on our orders. My brother and his friend also ordered two spirites at the same time I ordered my food. It never came. Our food came (over an hour later) before they ever got their spirites. My brother had to go to the bar to get his spirite. I will never return and will definitely not recommend this place to anyone. It's one thing if the place is busy and the servers are being attentive and accommodating, but it's another thing when they are purposefully not paying attention or even completing a simple task like getting two spirites. **Shortly after posting this review and closing out my check, I was approached by a manager(?) who had seen my post. She graciously apologized for the wait and explained they were understaffed. I appreciated the gesture and the extra effort she went through to apologize and explain the situation. read more

Wow. Just wow. Used to come here frequently till about 2 years ago when I moved out of the neighborhood. I always enjoyed their wings. I was at the NOrthwestern football game and decided to stop in for a bite. I had an order of wings and was incredibly disappointed. First it was 6 wings for 6 bucks. Ok, a buck a wing no problem but I ordered hot wings and they had little to no hot sauce on them. The size of a he order and the sauce was the reason this place was the destination for wings after softball games. They were terrible and on top of that the bartender forgot to place my order and finally after about 30 minutes she remembered and finally put it in. She was way more concerned with a group of 5 or 6 people at the end of the bar. I used to love this place but now I'll just cross it off the list of places I have to visit when I'm in the old neighborhood. So sad. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This establishment tends to it's "regulars" only. Just moved to the area and we thought that would be a great bar within walking distance for those rough days at work to blow off steam. My fiancé and I walked over and immediately felt unwanted. The bartender that evening took 15min to take our drink orders bc he was too preoccupied with the "regulars" at the bar with sports talk. So, then took another 10 minutes for our beers. Great Neighborhood Bar! Black Sheep is under new management, and I'm happy about it. I'm an avid pool player and the table here is a 9ft Diamond- IN GREAT CONDITION (which is hard to find). Drinks are cheap and well-poured, but it is a bar that charges dollars with some change (I hope the bartenders don't mind all the extra change).
