Nice little neighborhood beer bar. Good selection of beer and liquors. I was in the hood and needed a place to watch the Bulls game. This popped up and it hit the spot. Chill crowd, friendly bartender, clean bathroom. I wouldn't seek this place out, but if I'm in the area I'm happy to stop by. No food that I can. Maybe the biggest downside. read more

Barrelman Tavern - Sports Bars Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Very chilled little bar in a weird location on Peterson, about a block west of Clark Street. Barrelman is located on the short stretch of Peterson that is between Clark and Ridge. If you are like me, trying to make that light, you will never see this place, but it is there and it is super cute. There is a lot of dark wood that just gives the space a cozy feel. There are also two garage doors that I assume can be opened when the weather is good. For you folks with dogs, beer drinkers who drink beyond the basic beers, bubble drinkers (like me) and those that want to bring in their own food...this is your place. We went there to meet some friends and to watch some football. For such a small place, they do have plenty of TVs with multiple games going. It was great to be able to have pizza delivered, with the bartender providing paper plates, and napkins for us to use. The bartender was also very cool about bringing our drinks over or picking up empties as we were sitting a a table away from the bar. I didn't get his name, but he was cool. There is street parking but not on Peterson itself. I would say, depending on the day, it might be hard to find a spot as you have to park on Ridge or some of the side streets. There is a new Metra station down the street that is about 2 blocks from the bar. Not sure if there is public parking available, but worth checking out. I could see myself coming here just because I can bring my own food and still get bubbles. While they do not carry bubbles by the bottle, the stuff they had in the can was good. I would love to go there when the weather is nicer and they have the garage doors open. And it is a happy compromise to hanging out with friends who have dogs that they just can't live without who also like to drink. This is a place we can definitely hang out with them and have a good time. read more

Friendliest bar on the North Side. Travis is a great bartender - makes even strangers feel at home. Broad and good selection of draft beers.

Although they say it's dog friendly, this place is not that friendly at all. I was there for the first time, with my dog, who happened not to get a long with another dog. And they barked at each other. I was asked to leave because my dog was "bothering everyone" and the bartender did not say anything to the other dog's owner who's dog was barking louder than my dog, because clearly she was a regular. Never again. read more

Great place to watch a game! The staff are also very friendly. Great vibes all the way around.

Would not recommend at all. In a neighborhood with great bars, this brings up the rear. Cramped seating, bad drinks, and worst of all, horrible service. If you want to have an enjoyable experience, DO NOT go here. read more

Easily our favorite place in the neighborhood. The owners are kind, fun, attentive, and make you feel like family. It's the type of place that makes you glad you live in Chicago. They have excellent rotating beers, they're dog friendly, you can bring/order you own food, they have sports, they have board games. On good days and bad days, you'll find me at The Barrelman. read more

Excellent neighborhood bar. Great selection beers. No food - but I wish they sold chips in all sorts of flavors.

Needed a warm place to drink with our dog and this has a great tap list and friendly bartender/owner

I went to Barrelman Tavern this afternoon to watch a Bills game. It is such a warm, welcoming place. Travis is friendly and funny and attentive. There is a great beer selection and the crowd is low-key and friendly. This is a great neighborhood hang out. Check it out! read more

Wanted to take a moment to review a place that has quickly become one of my favorite local spots. Barrelman Tavern is a real gem and not too far off the beaten path. It's worth the trip. It's a small business run by two great, exceedingly nice people. They have around twenty beers on a rotating tap, and many of the ones I've tried have been great. I often like to ask for recommendations and they are pretty spot on with them and know the beers well. The place is bring your own food, they'll bring the plates, utensils, and napkins. It's pet friendly. The prices are great. They also run beers of the month and tap takeovers! Great people, cold beer, good conversations. What more could you want? read more

A new neighborhood favorite! We sometimes hit this one after a Target run, since it's right down the street, on our way home. Chilly drinks, super friendly bartender and DOG FRIENDLY. I'll be back!!!! read more

Great simple neighborhood spot. We came up here to watch a Bears game with a small group of friends and had a great time. The business itself is on the smaller scale but the interior is nice and well kept (think it was renovated fairly recently). The bar boasts a great beer selection and the staff is not only super attentive but very friendly, as well. They have some cool drink specials too but oddly I didn't notice them until reading the advertisements in the bathroom! Maybe they are posted elsewhere, too, but I didn't notice them. They don't serve food but you can bring or order in - or if you're daring or drunk there is also a White Castle across the street. If I lived in the area I could see myself coming here often! read more

My last experience here was not good. Are sold to someone else in the service just is it the same. Recommend this place at this time period

Some chick named Susan reviewed this place. I walk around this hood all the time and I've never smelled her. And trust me, when she was in the bar, everyone smelled her. This place is amazing. Super friendly and they give out free treat. One of the best head scratches of my life happened here. 10/10...even the female bartender is great. read more

Travis and Carly are some of the best bartenders! Barrelman has a great atmosphere, is dog friendly, and is open air in the warmer months. They always have a sick beer list, tons of games and friendly faces. My husband and I love coming here to watch sports or grab a beer. read more

Solid Beer bar with good sports viewing. Really diverse and ever changing Beer menu. And well behaved dogs are always welcome!0

This is a great neighborhood bar! Happened to stumble upon it after dinner in Andersonville. Travis was a great bartender and very personable. Great atmosphere, dogs, sports, local brews, board games, BYOF, garage doors open to experience the nice weather. 11/10 read more

The selection is solid. The customer experience is NOT. It's not warm and fuzzy in there, which is what you'd expect from a neighborhood spot. As in, you don't get the feeling the owner is happy to see you. He seems a bit miserable tbh. It kind of feels like a big mental/emotional shift would need to happen for him to arrive at a place that would create that sort of positive atmosphere, so I'm not holding my breath. Just... ugh, I wish there was a spot close by that felt more homey and welcoming. read more

Hood corner bar. Nice owner/server. Clean. They have the NFL Sunday Ticket so you can see any NFL game. A decent collection of whiskeys with a knowledgeable server. Offered me a free taste of a local distiller which was quite good. The only shortcoming is lack of food, even peanuts. The owner encourages you to bring your own, but the area around has very lame offerings. read more

This is a great neighborhood bar. Stopped in after dinner on a Saturday night and were able to grab 2 seats at the bar. Travis was the man - attentive and friendly, the perfect kind of bartender. Will definitely be back for a night cap or two! read more

Best bar in the area BY FAR. A great place to watch a game with perfectly placed TVs showing any game you want. The owners make you feel at home and that goes a long way. The beer selection is unmatched. Don't know how they get such rare beers but thankfully they do! Definitely my go-to bar. read more

Whomever helped them decorate did a great job of utilizing the corner look-space to draw eyesight into their pub. Passers-by are in for a feast! It's a beautiful bar area in there. There's a type of wood awning that curves just over the bar. Which kinda reminds me of the paneled wood walls in a steam room. I almost wanted a valet to come out with fresh, warm robes for us to change into. Imagine a steam room bar. Relax in steam and drink the pains away. Alas, that is not the case. For it's just, a simple, bar. The liquor is arranged on lit up shelves, much like any newer styled bar. They offer a number of fantastic beers on tap and by the bottle, as well as a great assortment of liquors and flavors of Irish whiskey. One, which caught my immediate attention, was Bushmills and a variety were offered. There it was on a glass ledge begging to be chosen for a drink. (Lately, I've been reading about great cocktails made with Bushmills and since I saw it here, naturally I thought..) Unfortunately, the bartender of the evening was a bore and alerted us to the fact that their bar was far too small to offer a drink menu of any kind. ARE YOU FU#$ing kidding me! So many great beer choices and you aren't utilizing these in some tasty beer cocktail!!?!? Come'on now! So instead, I'd opted for my usual, Tito's vodka and soda. A surprising $6 cocktail (great pricing for the area) poured neatly. Beyond that, the place lacked any kind of effort or atmosphere. It was dead for a Monday evening and beyond the personable door man, I can't see any reason I'd dawn their doorway ever again. What kills me was the attitude of the bartender. But hey, maybe it's not his call; maybe it's the owner that doesn't want any "foo-foo" offerings. However, this guy stood around on his smart phone. Seriously; dude could have entered into a polite conversation with us, he could have been cutting limes or lemon wedges for drinks. Heck, he could have been building some sort of cocktail and asked if we wanted to sample it.. (Which has happened to me at other places before and guess what.. although I had a drink in hand, I decided to double-fist since the bartender so graciously offered me a taste of something different. Note: This example happened recently at a Yelp-worthy bar in Milwaukee, Wi) There staring me in the face in the refrigerators below.. Radler Grapefruit.. I could have had one of those in a tall glass, on the rocks with a shot of Tito's! A fanstastic beer cocktail, of course another drink not mentioned because they are "too small" (?) to offer it. Bummer. Just a drink for I and the lady and we moseyed on over to the next Edgewater haunt. read more

Love Barrelman! Have been there enough to meet most everyone who works there, and they're all really friendly and cool. Make sure you say hi to Blake, Danny, Molly and Nicky. All good people that will take care you. The bar has an outstanding selection whiskey and draft beer, and they make a mean Bloody Mary. They don't have a kitchen, but you can order delivery from a bunch of places nearby. Normally go there for football Sundays, and the bar offers complimentary food and snacks every Bears gameday. Is a really nice touch. Simply put, this is now my fave bar in Chicago! read more

This bar is dope. I come here to catch a game or any big name event that is occurring. Travis & Carly are the best bartenders in the Chicago land area, and the beer menu is forever rotating. They should have kept it Egan's dive bar. No food. Not a very welcoming atmosphere. Way too bright for such a small space and over priced drinks read more

Pretty spot on with the reviews below. The staff is very friendly, the beer selection is fantastic and will be even better once the draft beers start flowing! I have already spent 2 evenings here and have met great people from the surrounding neighborhood - great crowd! There are several large tv's so any game can be seen from just about any seat in the house and the music/tv is set at a reasonable level so it is easy to talk to others around you! Sidenote - if you go for a Bears game, get there a bit early to grab a chair! I enjoy the smaller atmosphere, it keeps the place from becoming over-crowded and obnoxious! I will def be returning! read more

I'm so happy a place like this has opened in my hood. Every time I've been in (about four times) since it opened I keep eyeing the beers on tap because they look interesting but they're not on yet so only bottled beer now and mixed drinks. Danny makes THE BEST old fashioned!! Really appreciated that they grilled out for their guests who were there for the first Bears game of the season since they don't have a kitchen. They've got deals though with area restaurants for free and cheap delivery options. Can't wait till this place is up and functioning on all cylinders. It'll for sure be the best in the area. read more

Cozy, friendly hangout in northwest Edgewater. Went on opening weekend, early on a Friday. Their tappers weren't working so it was cocktails all around. The decor was woody and clean, the drinks tasty and reasonably priced. The table next to us was queuing up tunes on the Jukebox, which is something I always like. They cram in a bunch of big-screen TVs to watch whatever game is on. Despite the name, I didn't see a whiskey list or anything like that, but the (currently out of order) tappers had a good variety. Only negative I can think of is it's smallish inside, but maybe just the right size for this particular area of Edgewater. I'll definitely be back, to watch a game or grab a beer after work. Nice neighborhood joint. read more

Very cool spot with nice open door and windows for a summer breeze. I really like this spot and pla. To make it my go to local sports bar. They did a super job on the build out and really keep the place clean, especially the bathrooms. A big bonus for me was a Busch Light tall boy, I mean why down a mountain when you can down a Busch? Not much Busch to be had anymore, bot that I love all Busch - but an occassional one can be tasty if served up ice cold. read more

This place is diagonal from my apartment, and I had been saying for a month or so that I needed to check it out. My boyfriend, at the time, and I decided we should finally check it out. It's super small but has a beautiful, hip interior. Lots of cool lights surrounding the bottles and such. Since we both work in the industry, we like to chat up bartenders. I can't remember this bartenders name (I want to say he had a beard, if my memory serves me well - it was a month or so ago that we went), but man, he was so awesome! We shot the shit with him for a while, sharing industry stories and whatnot. We tried this god awful banana bread bottled beer when we were there. Don't be fooled - it tastes like a shitty pale ale with banana runts thrown into it. Yuck! Although I have not been back, I definitely plan on it! read more
