We had a very enjoyable visit here, thanks to the good drinks, pleasant staff, and great company. We recently stopped in for a midweek happy hour, when you can get one of three listed cocktails for only $8 each. My Casual Affair sorta reminded me of an Old Fashioned, while my lovely wife enjoyed the Often Confused cocktail. The bar itself is very small, but there are multiple seating options outside of the actual bar. You are permitted to take your drink to the lobby or to the outside patio area. Both are nice and allow for a pleasant drinking experience, but folks that live in the building sit there as well, on laptops or reading. The vibe of the bar is super chill, with this crazy red hue that I love. I am not a big cocktail person per se, but if you are into them like The Queen is, then you are in for a treat. There are also non-alcoholic selections for wines, beers and cocktails for those that require that. In addition they also have bubbles, so that is a win for me. In addition to great cocktails and bubbles, they also do "Summer Movie Nights" on the patio. You can bring a blanket, grab a drink and enjoy. Hungry? They have no kitchen, but a QR code lets you order in from R Public House, or you can fire up Uber Eats and the world is your oyster. The patio is huge and a wonderful place to sit on a warm summer day. The tavern is part of a set of wonderful businesses along this block of Jarvis, including Charmers (coffee), Horseplay (gifts), Taste (wine, liquor and more), R Public House (bar/restaurant) and Jarvis Square Books (bookstore). The business owners here are trying hard to build up a good sense of community and I think they succeed. We go up to the bar & immediately the man next to us looks at my friend's roommate and says "you're definitely going to need to show her your id(referring to the bartender)". 2nd... the bartender then reaches out and says , while looking at my friend, "have I seen y'all before?" & we say we have been here before. Then my friend starts introducing us, and gets to Megan(who is a Hispanic woman) and gets IMMEDIATELY interrupted by "I don't need to hear about your roommates", looking directly at Megan. Going back a couple weeks... we were here & the racism was so apparent we had to walk out... To think we gave this place a second chance, and FOR WHAT.... DO NOT GO HERE.
