First time at Cobblestone yesterday for brunch. Delicious crab cake Benedict! My husband and I shared a side of perfectly cooked bacon. They do not skimp on servings. Husband had the chicken & waffles and loved them -- and had so much that he couldn't finish. Wonderful brunch drink selection, too. Service is so friendly and attentive. it's too bad- had been to this place a number of times before and it had been good. But I'm not sure they're gonna be around for long now as they are in the kind of downward spiral that you see in places that aren't doing well- extremely low quality ingredients at nice restaurant prices. I ordered the short rib and the quality of the meat was noticeably worse than what you would get in a burrito at chipotle. They charge $32 for this and at the end of the meal, you just feel like a sucker. With a hungry group coming from a street festival to celebrate a birthday! Our targeted dining destination had a two hour wait, so thankfully we are in a neighborhood that has options. Enter Cobblestone sight unseen. We did not have to re-park the car and were a stones throw away. It was a perfect night to sit outside but there was a wait, so inside we go! The menu is skinny! They had already sold out of the mussels by the time we arrived, so it was even skinnier! Everyone seemed pleased with their drink and food choices. They had a $10 sausage plate special that I thought would be ideal for an appetizer and it was. The shaved brussels salad was gorgeous, generous, delicious and filling. The sausage platter did not disappoint. My wife really enjoyed the duck raghu and the rest of the gang liked their burgers and fish and chips. Stand out drink of the evening was "spill the tea!" Went here for NYE. I was really disappointed by the food. It has good reviews and a friend had been and liked it. I got the pre fixe menu. The pickled deviled eggs were tasty. It was not an "Amuse bouche" which is a single bite item, it was much more but I'm not complaining about that! The appetizer was grilled octopus over sweet potato mash. I learned that day that sweet and grilled octopus is not a good mix. It was nearly gross. I picked the octopus up and tried to brush off as much of the sweet potatoes and possible. The octopus tasted good but was over cooked. My main was the branzino. It was charred to a crisp and full of bones. It did not taste good and was extremely difficult to eat. I did not taste the German chocolate cake for dessert but was told it was dry and people barely touched it. My husband and others are our table got short rib goulash, which was served like a steak with gravy. It wasn't tender like short rib should be. He said the flavor was good at least. Someone got the fish and chips and said it was flavorless. Someone else got the burger and said it was also charred and over cooked. Over all, pretty disappointed. Cute place with decent service. Cobblestone has an excellent brunch menu! We went on a Sunday afternoon and ordered two classic dishes -- the Schnitzel and Waffles and the Hangover Hash. Both were fantastic, and I highly recommend trying them. The fried chicken schnitzel was perfectly crispy and served on a lemon poppyseed waffle with honey-butter bourbon maple syrup. The Hangover Hash featured tender grilled hanger steak, potatoes, bell peppers, mozzarella, and a poached egg. I really appreciate the unique spin they put on their brunch dishes compared to other brunch-focused restaurants. They also offer a dinner menu that I'm excited to try. The ambiance has a European medieval feel and creates a warm, welcoming vibe. Cobblestone is a great addition to the Lincoln Square/North Center neighborhood, and I'm looking forward to coming back for dinner! read more

Third time at cobblestone and this time was for Valentine's Day. We wanted someplace cozy and cute and Cobblestone set the bar high with a candlelit dinner. They had a terrific Valentine's Day dinner $95 for two people which included a small amuse-bouche each, an appetizer to share, individual entrees, and a dessert to share. We loved the crispy broccolini and were fighting over it. The entrees were huge portions and packed with flavor. I consider myself a scallop connoisseur and in all the restaurants we've ever been in, these scallops were cooked beautifully. They had a perfect sear to them on the outside but cooked perfectly on the inside as well, 10/10 no notes this is the scallop I will compare all future scallops to. And the duck confit, oh my...we also fought over this dish which paired incredibly well with beans to our surprise. Chocolate cake had a beautiful strawberry sauce on the bottom. Everything was incredible including the service. Cobblestone remains our favorite in the area and is loved by all the locals. Thank you for a perfect Valentine's Day dinner. read more

Interesting little place. We met some friends here who absolutely love this place. So we met them here for dinner. This is a neighborhood place, cozy on the inside. There is a nice outdoor area. Honestly, there isn't much to say on my part. Looking at the menu, I felt like it was all over the place, from French to German to Hungarian. There wasn't much on the menu that appealed to me beyond the sausage plate, burger and the fish and chips, so I got the burger. This was a solid entrée except the fries were on the lukewarm side. Our friend ordered the Coq Au Vin. While the presentation looked great, it didn't look like it was half a chicken if you look at the photo...maybe a small one? The Doctor got the Fish and Chips and enjoyed it. Interesting that his fries were hot and mine were not. I think this place specialty is the drink menu. According to The Queen, they have a pretty good selection of ciders, which she loves. So maybe this is a place to come on a nice for a drink outside. They did have a nice rose prosecco For me, there wasn't much on the menu for dinner or brunch that would make me drive over for a meal. Food was good, just not my cup of tea. read more

Disappointing. The kale salad was huge but needed something in it other than giant pieces of kale. My halibut was okay but served with white beans (out of a can) and a spicy sauce. It was a strange dish - seemed disjointed. We ordered the German chocolate cake for dessert - it was massive but not traditional, was overly sweet with a solid type frosting. We didn't finish it. Nice spot close to home. We dug the vibe, the colonial candles, and the cozy woodwork. Not a huge fan of tall tables, but it was fine. Seemed like there was only one server on a somewhat busy Sunday evening but she was very good, as was her busboy -- both very personable and helpful. We loved the Brussels sprouts, though they weren't crispy as described, but they had great flavor and good texture. My guest liked his chicken and I enjoyed the short ribs, though a roasted veg instead of a slab of bread would have been preferred accompaniment on the plate. I'd give this place between a 2 and 3. Lots of potential here and maybe I just caught them on an off night. I doubt I'll come back to see. We went inside to ask if we could sit outside, as it was a beautiful night. It took awhile to figure that out, given there were only a couple people inside. We got seated and I ordered a beer. It took about 15 minutes to get it. Mind you, it wasn't busy inside and the waiter wasn't bringing a bunch of drinks outside either. So I don't know what was taking so long to pour a beer. When he took our order, I ordered the burger, as that's what I was in the mood for and people on here had said good things about. The server said that wasn't the burger anymore and they had a different one. I didn't like half the toppings on the special one so that was a no. I ended up ordering the fish and chips as that was the only other thing that sounded decent. It took about 40 minutes for our food to come out. The fries were cold. The fish was decent. Definitely not worth $21. Server was nice, clearly frazzled. I understand if a place is short staffed but say something before we sit down - that it will be a longer wait, so we can decide. read more

Been here a time before for drinks with friends so after a lovely burger at bad apple, we came over for a drink. Just as darling as I remembered! My friends were drinking good beers/ciders but for those of us who are pregnant, I was looking for some herbal tea on the cold rainy night. Our waitress quickly talked with the bar tender to see what they could do and with only chamomile, I opted for hot water and lemon. They gave me a cute display and brought out a little tea pot too! Super appreciative! Then we must have dessert and couldn't decide so we got them both. Apple crisp and ice cream was very good. Loved the skillet. Fudge bar was awesome but soo rich, we had four people and couldn't finish. Super calm and tranquil music, great service and the menu looked great. Cobblestone for me is somewhere between a 3 and a 4. It's not terrible, but I also don't feel like it's rave-worthy. We came here on a Friday night and started off with fries, Brussel sprouts and the pork belly as an appetizer. The fries were decent, but it is relatively hard to mewe up fries. The Brussel sprouts were pretty delicious, so if you do come here, I would recommend ordering. As a pork belly fan, I was relatively disappointed because the menu described the dish as crispy and complex in flavor. I actually found the flavor to be lacking and one note. For an entrée, I got the mussels. The broth was very one note, with no real depth of flavor. The bread could have been grilled better. I tried the bite of the trout and I can't say I was a complete fan. Overall, I think I would give it another shot, but I was a little underwhelmed. read more

Overall: Cobblestone surprised us as being a great dining option, and was far away from the typical pub food experience! The good: In terms of COVID they had plenty of outdoor seating and kept well to the distance requirements, so we felt very comfortable. The menu is extremely varied - the pineapple tart and fish n chips (two very different choices, I know) were both delicious. The tart was flaky, decadent, and not-to-sweet profile to it. It wasn't what we imagined at all (more of a "slider" than a tart), but it was great nonetheless. The fish n chips were what you would expect and paired with a great tarter sauce, so we left full and happy. Great drink options as well! The not-so-good: The pineapple tart was really difficult to eat. The pineapple was in chunks instead of bigger pieces, so they kept falling off, and the prosciutto was tough and hard to cut (for splitting purposes). Combine those with the super flaky pastry (which was great), and it lead to a messy experience. The service was also a bit lacking in terms of communication, and could have been better. We always have such a wonderful time here and especially enjoy visiting during the warmer months when we can sit one one of the two outdoor patios. The quality of the cocktails is outstanding. The wine menu is small but very thoughtful and awesome. And the food...THE FOOD! Tonight we enjoyed the langos flatbread, which we have had before and is amazing. For my entree, I selected the summer shrimp roll, which I have also had before because it is SO FREAKING GOOD and is served on brioche bread with a side of Old Bay chips that just taunt me because they know there is no freaking way I can eat them all. My husband ordered the fish and frites tonight, and the cod was exceptional. No room for dessert which was sad because dessert is always so good here. Couldn't find a parking spot near the place we wanted to go to, so kept driving and ended up here. A lot of parking spots. We noticed the place has a decent patio and decided to give it a try. We came around 2 pm, just the time when the kitchen was closing for brunch. I got some crispy pork belly hush and some of my friends ordered burgers. The food was ok. They complained about the size, but In my opinion for that price it is ok. The menu you can find online is not updated obviously. No vegan options. My partner wanted to get fries at least, but they said the kitchen is closed at that time. No big choice of coffee. Just a regular one. No latte or mocha. Can't say I would recommend this place. My friend and I came for a late lunch, we were informed that the kitchen would be closing in a few minutes, so we put in an order of Schnitzel and Waffle, but they were out of waffles. It happens. So my friend ordered a sandwich with fries and I ordered their Waldorf salad - dressing on the side - and two sausage links. Here's where it gets weird: What came out was my friend's sandwich with a side salad (small bowl) drenched in dressing. The guy who brought it out even SAID "side salad." My friend said he didn't order a side salad and I said I ordered a full - then the server actually said: "Even though I said side salad this is actually the full salad" and gave it to me. I told him that the size was clearly a side, but the guy doubled down and confirmed that it was indeed a full size salad. When I pointed out that my friend didn't receive his fries and that meant the salad was actually a side to the sandwich, the guy refused to agree and walked away. When he returned with my friend's fries, I again told him that I did not think it was a full salad, but this time he ignored me a walked away. After a considerable amount of time, our waiter came and I asked if my bowl was the full size salad and he admitted that the order was put in wrong and that the salad was indeed a side. They wanted to make me a new salad and comp me for it (very nice of them) but two thoughts came into my mind: 1) their frustration at not being able to close the kitchen and 2) what I hear some restaurants do to the food of customers they perceive as difficult. NOT that they would do this, but it is a fear of mine. So I told them no. At the end of the meal I told the waiter, if the guy had just said, sorry we put in the wrong order and corrected it, all is well in my book, but he lied and ignored me. Then the waiter told me the guy is on a learning curve and they've had to talk to him about being rude to customers - meaning he's done this before. Then the waiter asked me to return so they could comp me for an app. Side note: they charged me for the two sausage links. Sigh. read more

We had been meaning to come here since the Northman closed and finally made it; I am sad we waited so long!! The patio was absolutely beautiful and they are also opening some outdoor space in the back. Cobblestone has a nice selection of cider, beer, wine, and innovative cocktails. We shared the beef tartare, grilled romaine salad, flatbread, and apple crisp. All the food was delicious and flatbread was light and crispy. The apple crisp was probably the best I have ever had and is not to be missed! (My husband loved the cinnamon ice cream that came with it) Despite overhearing that they were understaffed the night we went, the service was phenomenal. This place is really underrated. It's my go to place to bring people for a nice dinner on weeknights. Very relaxed, atmosphere is warm- warm wood inside with green patio space outside. The staff is amazing, super warm and knowledgeable about cider. We were walking around, looking for a bite in the area and the restaurants around there were all packed. So we ended up at this place and maybe it should have been a sign that there was nobody outside (compared to the other restaurants being packed), but we thought we'd give it a try. The place itself is cute, nice and cozy inside with an inviting patio outside. Our server was very sweet, attentive and nice - no complaints there. The food was super disappointing though! We started with the Cesar Salad and the Spaetzle dish. The Cesar looked appetizing, but the fish taste was so strong, there was nothing else going on. Don't get me wrong, a little hint - sure, that's part of the deal, but all we tasted was fish. The Spaetzle were cold, which was unexpected (I'm German, thought for sure they'd be warm) and bland, absolutely no flavor. I'm not sure if they were supposed to be cold, there was some warmth in there - then some parts were cold, I didn't bother to ask. We decided not to order a main course. Reading the other reviews, we might have caught them on an off night - but at the price tag, it's not a place I'll give a second chance. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby. read more

This isn't really adding up for me. How many restaurants have a full 5 star rating? I came here last week with a date and I cannot emphasize how underwhelming our experience was. With open seating on the patio, we were sat directly in the sun. I had to move my chair to get out of it. So we awkwardles say caddy cornered from each other. No one asked if we would like to move, seeing how obviously uncomfortable we were and that the patio was empty. The food was the worst part though. This is very clearly where they make their money. I ordered the pork belly hash ($12-15, I believe)... the order was incredibly small and absolutely no pork belly that I could find. One fried egg covered the top of the meager serving of potatoes. Just a really really bad dish. My date had something else that was equally as unimpressive. Drinks were just okay... again, nothing impressive. Service was not particularly friendly and obviously didn't offer help. It was just on time and good enough. There is no way every patron here is giving them 5 stars. I think Yelp offers businesses the option to buy favorable reviews either way, I will not be returning. read more

Yum. The food is familiar and comfortable, but still novel and interesting. The short rib is to die for. It literally fell off the bone. I brought half of it home and just made Ramen with it. The watermelon steak was recommended by the server and I'm so glad we went with it. It was sweet and savory, and I could've eaten 4 of them as my meal. The burger was different. Cobblestone is in our neighborhood so I really wanted to try it but they had to shut down due to COVID-19 in November. Finally reopened last week and we went for dinner this evening. It was chilly so we sat inside. There are high top tables and bar seating, and there are booths as well. There's plenty of outdoor seating too, on the sidewalk and a side patio. We are both vaccinated and felt perfectly safe indoors. The tables are spaced out and it was early so it was quiet. I ordered the fish and chips and hubby had the burger. I got three large pieces of fish that were juicy and moist, perfectly lightly breaded and fried. Amazing! I could only get through two of them. The tartar sauce was delicious too. The burger is 50/50 lamb and beef and it's quite large. Hubby enjoyed it a lot. The frites were fine, but not outstanding. We had red wine with dinner, a Pinot noir for me and a Cabernet for him. Both were great. We highly recommend this place. If you're in the neighborhood, try it. I'd call it a bistro with a large beer/cider menu. We will definitely go back. read more

Very good service and food, charming pub-like atmosphere. Our waiter Caleb was thoughtful, polite and anticipated anything we might need. The two female servers were also excellent. The goulash was nicely seasoned and perfect for a chilly evening. My only suggestion would be to cook the onions a little longer, and mushrooms would make a good addition. My boyfriend enjoyed the fish and chips--the batter was light and crispy. The Lyonnaise salad was nice and not overloaded with goopy dressing, as is sometimes the case in other restaurants.
