Brand new bar in former Avondale mechanic shop with car-themed cocktails. From the same owners as Central Park bar. Some mechanics manuals on the shelves in the back, car parts, and alley mirrors hanging from the ceilings, although honestly i wouldn't have minded if the auto theme was taken up a notch--it'd honestly be easy to miss it if you didn't know, and I love a unique experience. Cocktails: Dead Beat Beet was going to be an avoid on account of the beet juice, but actually it's a recommend: mezcal, ginger delicious. The gin-based Lift was effortless and unusual and I'd get it again, although my pour made me wonder the total spirits content. Felt very light. I'd have to get it again to conclude. Bar staff were enthusiastic and friendly, although wound up being a decent wait just with some moderate busyness (not quite even half full). But we were here on the 2nd day, so pretty sure that gets smoother. Draft pours include common craft options like Son of Juice. No food. Lots of options nearby. On trend and fun--could definitely come by again. This also has significant patio space which will mean i have this on my warm weather list for sure.

Tune-Up just opened recently in Avondale. It has a mechanic shop vibe because I think that's what this building used to be. It was also very lively inside around 7pm, and I'm sure it continues to get more crowded later into the night. They're open until 5am on Saturdays, and 4am the rest of the week. It's a pretty casual bar with TVs playing sports and a decent cocktail list. Prices are pretty low for Chicago ($13 each). I got the anti-freeze cocktail and it was good. It tasted a lot like cucumber. They don't serve food but I think you can bring your own.

At 4pm on a weekday it was already bustling, and this place is popular for good reason! The entire vibe and the staff are just super cool. Even the bathrooms are an experience, with heavy metal music blasting in a way that just adds to the unique charm. To drink, I tried the lucky linny and blood orange sour, which were both fantastic. I'm not typically a huge beer person, but after this visit I'm well on my way to crossing to the other side. For the appetizer, we split the cheese curds. I really liked the Korean inspired twist and the kimchi aioli served alongside. I think it could've used a little more salt and arrived warmer for a nice cheese pull, but otherwise it was enjoyable. I opted for the double cheeseburger as the main event, and it was really well done. The beef was juicy, perfectly cooked, with ample high quality cheese and caramelized onions. I think the sauce could've used an extra something, but overall it was a great burger. Great experience all around. Can't recommend highly enough and look forward to returning soon!

Got it. Boozy? Check. No complaints there. Most of their food is pretty good. Went yesterday and had their nachos which were great. Unfortunately their mac of the month sounded good before we got it. Mac and cheese with mushrooms and bacon sounds great. But when we got it, it not only didn't look good it was just weird and they really missed the boat with it. They added blue cheese to it for some reason which threw off the taste, had raw tomatoes on it which added to an already way too liquidy sauce, and the pasta was way overdone. It's a shame because their pimento mac with breadcrumb crust is great. I feel like they just tried to get too fancy with that one and also forgot that if you add piping hot sauce to done pasta, it keeps cooking it. That said, service was very good and we will come back...but we will be wary of the mac of the month.
