Never coming back here again! The bartender is so rude. My friend lives in Chicago, we were in the area and trying to watch the Bears game so we walked into this place. We walked in and sat down. I asked the bartender if there was service at the table or if we ordered at the bar which he said it was a one guy bar which is fine. I asked if they had angry orchard and he said he'd tell me what he tells all people that come in, 'Look at the menu' which is fine. I told my friend he told me to look at the menu and once we decided on what we wanted my friend ordered. Bartender asked in a snarky way if we'd ever been to a bar. I asked if he had whiskey and ginger ale (which wasn't on the menu) and he said in snarky way that it's a full service bar. He gave me my drinks and I asked if I can keep an open tab and as I handed my card he said, 'You know you have to leave your card' which I said I know. I ignored all the previous comments because we just wanted to watch the Bears game. Ordered two more refills and all good until I wanted to close my tab. I walked up, he was closing out someone so I waited. While he was walking back and forth I raised my hand so he could see me and he yelled at me, "Don't wave your hand at me, there's others before you!". I felt so bad. I just wanted him to see me, I would have waited my turn. I never expected him to attend to me right away. And after that he walked away and turned around to then get my tab. This is a fantastic neighborhood bar - roomy, quiet on most days, and unpretentious. It's nicely decorated for the holidays too with lights. It's also open late on a Saturday night. I would never go back to this bar. We only came here because we were early for a show at Gorilla Tango Theater and wanted to meet up with our friends locally before the show. So we went to the first bar we saw. This bar has the slowest service ever. They have a $25 minimum on credit cards and then wouldn't allow us to pay with cash because we did not spend $25. Usually bars only enforce the minimum if you are using the credit card and just hold it so you can have a tab open. The female bartender was really rude about it. We told her to just charge us $25 for our two drinks and she tool her sweet time checking out... after ignoring us at the bar for a while. She ended up making us late for our show and we had a lousy time at the bar. The only upside was that the tamale guy showed up! read more

I kicked it at Green Eye for a couple hours solo, and found it comfy, not too grubby, not too loud and definitely accommodating. The Green Eye is a nice little neighborhood spot. Stopped in here the other night and I was impressed by the beer list and the friendliness of the staff. We were able to grab a primo table up front in the window and sat enjoying a beer that the bartender suggested (still not sure what it was and she only had a couple of bottles left of it) and checking out the world as it passed by this busy corner of Milwaukee and Western. The bouncer also took the time to personally welcome us and told us his name even though he felt compelled to "card us" which always cracks me up. I am always waiting for one of the bouncers to say I am his "mother's age"! Plenty of room at the bar to snag a stool and there is also a side room that doubles the overall seating space. Street parking is pretty easy in this area. Nothing fancy but a good space to grab a beer and sit a spell as the world goes by. read more

Came here with coworkers to unwind after one hell of a day. One of the ladies I was with didn't have her ID but had 2 other forms of government issued ones. The bartender wouldn't except them which we understood. We turn people away at our job everyday for not having proper identification. So we left, no fuss. While walking out some patrons yelled and harassed our group for no particular reason and staff did nothing. Just sat back and watched. Just a bad and weird experience overall. I've been in shows at Gorilla Tango for two years now and my group and its fellow partiers had found the Green Eye a nice place for aftershow celebration. A little loud, a little packed with people with ironic facial hair, but all in all ok. A couple of nice bartenders, good beers on tap. The other night a charming friend of mine was with the equally lovely mom of another friend. The first woman, about 35; the second, about 70. They had little dixie cups in hand from the theater and forgot to get rid of them as they walked into the bar. This could have been handled gracefully by a staff member of the bar with a simple request to leave outside drinks outside. But NOOOOO. Whomever was near the door decided it was time to unload on a 70-year-old woman that he didn't want her business, that suburban people were awful (are you serious? How would you even KNOW?), and that she should just leave. Take note, Green Eye: you just lost a 50-person group of people that regularly closes bars, runs nice big tabs, and leaves fat tips. read more

Two things I didn't notice when I went there: Woo girls and yuppies. I read some of the negative reviews of Green Eye and they seemed to come from Woo girls and yuppies that were disappointed to find out they don't have karaoke night or play pop dance music. It's not that kind of place. One thing that did stand out, was the bartender. Seriously, our bartender was probably one of the nicest and most prompt bartenders I've crossed here in Chicago. I remember I had a lot to drink and thought the bill would be more, but it wasn't. I can't say how much each drink was, but it's cheaper than most places. The inside of the place is cool with a loftish feel to the place and enough room that you won't feel cramped. Great atmosphere. You'll see some of the local artists work on the walls. Glad to know they are helping support the community. They do have free wi-fi there, as well. I didn't bring my laptop, but there is a sign that claims free wi-fi. The only negative that comes to mind is having a $25 min for credit card charge. I think that's too much and bad for business. Regardless, it's a great to place hang out with some friends and enjoy the drinks without breaking the bank. Leave the "woo" at home, please. read more

I've lived within walking distance for the past 4 years, and it's a struggle EVERY NIGHT to not head there right after getting off the Western blue. $5 dollar special weekday nights? Check. FOOD NETWORK ON WITH SUBTITLES? DOUBLE CHECK (Food porn + whiskey = happiness). The space is awesome- love the booth-esque seating along the walls with the high tables and the local art. Plus, it smells like incense all the time, opposed to the gross beer on the floor smell most bars harbor. Bartenders and doorstaff are friendly and hilarious. They keep the creeps out, too. Back when I lived in Andersonville and my boyfriend lived in Bucktown, I'd get off at the Western Blue Line stop and the Green Eye was our designated meeting place. I always felt welcome, and Erik and I shared many a pint and made many happy little memories there.
