We were blown away by takeout from Avondale Tap - what a treat! Looking for a great sandwich, I stumbled upon Avondale Tap in a delivery app and cross checked it with Yelp, seeing great reviews. I'm so glad I found it because it did not disappoint. We ordered a duck grinder with sweet potato tots subbed for fries, along with a cheeseburger from the kids menu. The quality and flavor of everything was excellent, as was the value. The duck grinder and very generous side of tots was enough for two meals (for me, at least). But even if it wasn't, I wouldn't care because it was so unique and delicious. The richness of the tender, well-seasoned duck was complemented beautifully by the chimichurri, and the roll was just the right size and thickness to hold everything together while letting the filling take center stage. The burger was also great - and at a quarter pound vs the half pound burgers on the regular menu, it's a nice choice if you don't want something huge. Whatever is happening in the Avondale Tap kitchen, they've got a great thing going. I'd order again (or check them out in person) in a heartbeat! read more

I was not expecting more than Bar food. Had the loaded sweet potatoes tots. The ranch dressing on it was so flavorful. They make it ftom scratch. Not the strong flavors of the bottled dressing. I'm told they make the sauces and dressing from scratch. The tots were delicious. I also had the French onion soup. It was better than most I had. Not salty. The onions were just caramelized and soft. The cheese on the toast was delicious. Hard to detail how incredible the cheese was. The stock was very flavorful. The crayfish hangar was also great. The bread to meat ratio was perfect. I liked the flavors. I can't state it enough this place was a pleasant surprise. If you like a bar, and bar food, this place is definitely worth a visit. In Chicago for a visit. Son and I came here for something quick. I ordered a duck grinder and fries, with an IPA. Son order a steak sandwich with same accompaniments. Grinder and steak sandwich were both exceptional, and so were the fried. Of course, the IPA was pretty good too. Amazingly good food in a standard neighborhood pub with friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere. Ordered shrimp tacos (3), calamari, and Cobb salad. The tacos were decent, with generous avocado. Calamari was a bit greasy but good enough, very fresh and hot. My favorite was the salad. Enough of a meal for 2 people, one being a 6'5 giant. This was our first time in as we just moved to the neighborhood and we loved it! We had come from dinner but decided we wanted some snacks. We had the fried pickles, pretzels, & ice cream with churros-- I was surprised but oh so happy they had some kind of dessert. The bartender was a super nice guy-- very friendly. The atmosphere is nice, typical bar lay out...we ordered food...Loaded Sweet Potatoes Tots, California Gold BBQ wings. The tots were good, but they were not loaded...I mean they needed more cheese, bacon and chives. It was kind of skimpy on the loaded part. The wings were really good. Tender and meaty. The bartender was also the waiter. He did a good job manning the customers at bar and at the tables. I will go again to try their Brunch menu. My wife was craving wings and we wanted to try a place that we had never been. The pictures of the wings looked pretty legit. We also added on the pulled pork nachos and a chicken tender meal for the crumbsnatcher. We put in a pick up order and it said it would take 20 minutes. I went in at about the 15 minute mark, just so that I could get it as fresh as possible and the food was already ready for pick up. That gave me a little pause. While I'm appreciative that the food was done quick it feels like it should have taken a bit longer to prepare. We live right up the block and when we got home the food was lukewarm and we discovered they were missing the chicken tender meal. When I went in to order the food the place was packed. They had a large bar and several tables. There looked to be one bartender and she looked super busy so didn't get a super welcoming vibe when she handed me the bag, but I get the stress of having a full house. The BBQ wing were sauced nicely but you could hardly tell there was any sauce in the Buffalo wings. The nachos were decent but again a little on the cold side and a little soggy making me think the food had been sitting there for a while. This may be a place that you need to come in and grab a table to eat. Again the place was packed so they must be doing something right, but this take out order left much to be desired. read more

This place is an absolute banger to have in the neighborhood. I'd have no problem saying this is def the best bar food on the northside. The burgers are incredible, but the fried chicken sandwich is one of the best in the city. Their sauces amazing. Carolina gold and Caribbean jerk are my go to's. But ALWAYS get a side of the pineapple ghost pepper sauce. It's SO good, and actually spicy. Not like, "hey, we put ghost pepper on the there so people can feel all tough, but it's palatable for everyone", more like "hey, this is super flavorful, a little sweet, and we're going to light your fucking face on fire you lil shit, order 5 more Hamm's, poser." love it. My fiancé likes his wings extra wet but he even thought these wings were great. I believe on Wednesday's they have a deal so will definitely be back for this. Shrimp tacos: these were appetizers so it came in 3 double wrapped in the tortilla. The tacos were full and filled with flavor with a good amount of shrimp. Solid neighborhood bar! We went bowling nearby beforehand, and this was conveniently located to grab drinks and food at after. We had a bunch of apps including the nachos (very tasty, but of course), sweet potato tater tots, and pretzel rolls. Everything was great, and loved that they had sweet potato tots so we could pretend to be healthy, even though ahem clearly we were not per our above order. The service was great and the ambiance/space was too, but my only issue was that it smelled pretty strongly of paint and I didn't like that. Maybe they were doing some remodeling, but some extra ventilation to bring the smell down would have been nice. Overall though great experience and would return! read more

Really chill place to have a drink and a decent meal. Sitting on the patio is pleasant and relaxing. It's a very comfortable setting to spend time and bond with friends. The wings are great as are the fried pickles, and loaded fries. The salads are huge and filling and the sandwiches and burgers are also very good and the portions are hefty. The staff is friendly and top of things which is wonderful. They are also very quick and we have never had to wait for long for service. Ambience was whatever. Bar. Tables. Outside patio. Standard. Service? Garbage. Got moved to a two top from a four top so they can accommodate A TWO TOP. Weird. Bunch of beyond-their-prime, easily weeded, snarky servers that just take orders and drop checks. No recommendations, no can we get you anything else when the meals were dropped, no water refills. We even bought our server a shot (it was cinco de Mayo) and he still had the personality of an ungrateful box of rocks. Service depends on what color you are. I walk in, sit at the bar and not greeted by the bartender. Two other guys walk in after me and are greeted immediately with a "hey guys, what can I get you?" Then, the bartender then throws a passing glance at me and says "Drinking or eating?" I order my drink but say I'm stepping away to go to the bathroom and ask if it can be prepared when I get back. He nods but the drink is waiting for me when I come out. As a woman, I feel like he didn't consider the depth or safety of my request. If you're not a POC come right on in! What a great find in our new neighborhood! It was a very warm evening and we had our big dog along with us. So happy to see the outdoor patio with plenty of space and they seated us at the very end so our pup could lay out and relax. Immediately, they brought him a dish of water and replenished it a couple of times. Great drinks, and decent wine selection for a neighborhood tap. We asked for recommendations and the waiter was right on spot, I ordered the bánh mì with shrimp at his suggestion and it was delicious. My husband had the Cuban also good. Chef Dee does amazing things with what people might consider standard bar food, and does it in the most interesting and delicious way possible. The Cheesesteak grinder with homemade giardiniera on a warm fluffy grinder roll, or her take on the Cubano - but she uses pulled pork that is crisped up before adding to the sandwich. Homemade pickles and probably the best ham I have ever had, all served on that same soft grinder roll. Amazing! Decent beer list (although a good double IPA would be greatly appreciated) and reasonable prices, plus a large outdoor eating area has made this our go-to place. So very thankful for these neighborhood dives. They're so laxed and non theatening, like I can just sit back in the patio with a book and order like 4 or 5 drinks there, and not feel watched in the process. Dives rock you know, you literally just dive in, grab a drink and just go with the flow. All the big ass TV's craft beer options, and jams on the jukebox. A young adult's haven. Avondale Tap delivers that asthetic perfectly. A corner joint that fills your belly with not only food and drinks, but with entertainment as well. This review solely goes out to the drinks since I was trying to have fun on a Sunday afternoon. Great beer choices, on tap and w cans/bottles. Cocktail list looked great. I ordered this Escondido and eventually it stopped tasting like alcohol, it's that flavorful. Gotta love this place. It's tough to hang at bars now, but if there's a patio I'm there. Some people like to sit at a park on a Sunday afternoon, and then there's some who's trying to find a beer garden to lounge at. I wish I could give 4.5 stars. This place is a great neighborhood bar: I go there for trivia on Wednesday's, and I've gone there to watch sports or to read with a beer after work. The food is consistently very good, 4 stars good, though it's a little pricey for what it is. They've also got good vegetarian options, which is relevant to me. The vibe of the bar brings it up to 5 stars. They've got a dart board with free, functional darts, and a goddamn shuffleboard table! For free! You can't beat that. 4 stars for the food and the ambiance, 5 stars for the ok trivia and free games. A great Avondale spot. read more

We ate on the outdoor patio. It was very nice. I agree with other reviews that the wait staff aren't overly friendly but our server was to the point and sarcastic. Just like I like 'em. He was good a checking in with us and we had no issues. The owner (or manager) came out and was watering the plants and chatted with us about the business and recommended Alice's, their other bar which is a karaoke and late night bar (4 am bar). It will likely be on the lair of things to do next. All in all a good experience. The good was good and the drinks were nice a strong without being insane.
