We are semi-frequent visitors to the Little Bad Wolf. However, it is often busy. As a result, we decided to try out The Good Wolf. We loved our experience and will definitely be back! The ambiance is chic, warm, and welcoming. It is also a spacious building with a bit more seating than Little Bad Wolf, so that is nice. We went from a 1.5 hour wait at Little Bad Wolf to almost an immediate seating at the Good Wolf's bar. You can't beat that! The bartender/waiter, Zach, was great! He took good care of us, making us feel welcomed and answering any questions we had as first timers! I got the charred boulevardier cocktail and my spouse got a local IPA beer on tap. We both loved our beverages and were very happy! To eat, we started with the brown butter broccolini side. It was so delicious, decadent, and flavorful. We will definitely get this again! For entrees, I got the duck gnocchi and it was divine. Perfectly filling, delightfully flavorful, and high quality! My spouse got the fish and chips and loved it! I tried a bite and loved how crisp the fish was! And the giardiniera aioli was scrumptious! Prices were reasonable for such a high quality meals. And the space was clean and welcoming. We loved it! We can't wait to go back. We are thrilled to have another great dinner spot in the Andersonville neighborhood! read more

One thing was missing: top down lighting; otherwise a fantastic experience! I'm a big fan of Little Bad Wolf next door, and finally made it a point to stop in and visit the neighbor. It's not flashy, it is less busy, and if you don't know... sneeze and you'll miss it. The vibe is dark and moody, with notes of brown and dark blue. The art also fits the overall atmosphere well. I question, however, the large TV screen that seemingly only shows their name. It's not intrusive, just a bit weird. However, it was so dark that seeing the menu was more challenging than it needed to be. I can light it up with my phone, though I do (and did) so at the risk of being 'that guy'. Top-down lighting folks, I see the lamps up there, too! I ordered: - Oysters (4 as-is, 4 with mignonette on the side) - Duck Gnocchi - Sticky Toffee Pudding The oysters were medium-sized and excellent quality! They were delightfully briny and without a hint of cartilage or sand. The first order came with mignonette, and while enjoyable, being a bit of a purist, I put on a second order with mignonette on the side. Sure enough, I found myself adding it of my own accord. All the more evidence the kitchen knows what it's doing! Further proof? The Duck Gnocchi - the gnocchi themselves were soft and pillowy, more so than I've experienced up to this point. The duck in the dish was tender and soft as can be. The veggies (mirepoix) were sliced and cooked perfectly, adding texture, freshness and bulk (fiber?) without overpowering anything. To top it all off, breadcrumbs for a little crunch, and a mild sauce that tied everything together in perfect harmony. For the most important course, dessert, we have the Sticky Toffee pudding. A well cooked, well sauced helping of pudding, topped with a large scoop of ice cream that slowly melted, transforming the flavor as you go. For drinks, I ordered the Charred Boulevardier and the Burnout. The Boulevardier was rich, sweet and savory, in contrast the Burnout was brighter and fresher, and still boozy. While neither drink was a smack to the face with alcohol, after getting up, I could feel the effects. In terms of their service, it was polite and attentive, and all items came out fast! The prices are okay, though if you love oysters, keep in mind they will set you back $4/each! Final verdict: There is nothing at The Good Wolf that I wouldn't happily order again. It is hard to choose a standout when everything was of a high caliber. I look forward to working my way through their menu, and continuing to feed the good wolf (props is you know the story of the Two Wolves). read more

I've been a patron of the Little Bad Wolf ecosystem (Gretel, Wolf & Co., the coffee, butcher, and grocer) since the beginning, and I really want The Good Wolf to succeed. The ingredients and concepts are clearly high quality, but unfortunately, the execution of several dishes during my last visit resulted in a mixed and ultimately disappointing meal. The Hits and Misses: Duck Gnocchi: The base flavor was wonderfully comforting, but the entire dish was heavily over-seasoned to the point of being too salty. Shrimp: High-quality shrimp, but they were dry and significantly overcooked. They would benefit greatly from being served with a simple garlic herb butter. Crab Cabbage Salad: The char on the cabbage was a pleasant touch, and the amount of crab for the price was fair. However, the dish was unbalanced; there was too much raw red onion, which completely overwhelmed the sweet, delicate flavor of the crab. Chicken and Peppers: The chicken was moist and of excellent quality, which I appreciated. Yet, it lacked basic seasoning and really needed salt. It was served with an extremely generous--to the point of being wasteful--portion of fries. The cocktails were the highlight of the night, perfectly balanced and well-made. The service was also a bit strange. I also overheard two other tables expressing frustration with their service timing and attentiveness. The potential here is huge, but until the kitchen tightens up on seasoning consistency and preparation timing, it's hard to justify a higher rating. 3.2 stars read more

I came to The Good Wolf on a Friday night and I was surprised it wasn't busier! All the service staff were super friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very well decorated and felt sophisticated. I do wish they had a stricter dress code for the staff because some people's attire seemed too casual / not aligned to the restaurant's ambience in my opinion. I tried the following: -Piano and Jazz NA cocktail: it was good, a little too tart, but not bad for a NA option (4/5) -Cheese curds they were just okay (3/5) -Burger was phenomenal and had a nice spice to it (5/5) but unfortunately the fries were room temperature and definitely the low light of the meal (2/5) A solid four stars- I'd be happy to go back but I probably won't become a regular. We split the carbonara which was made perfectly- every bite I savored. He had the good burger which was great but a little overcooked. I had the artichoke parm - everything about it was awesome. Bread I have to say was the best part. We split both desserts and we were both full but managed to eat most of the dessert. This place is a fancier sister to the Bad Wolf. Perfect for a romantic date night! I visited twice, and the lighting can get pretty dark depending on where you're seated. They don't take reservations, but I haven't had any issues being seated right away during the weekdays. Highly recommend the cottage fries. I love the thinly sliced potatoes with prosciutto complemented with the softest shaved manchego. It's a good size as well. The sticky toffee was amazing. It came out warm and the combination with ice cream was excellent. Gnocchi and duck was salty to me, and the dish was small for the price. The gnocchi itself was so soft and yummy though. There was fish dish that is no longer on the menu that was delicious and well seasoned. My friend enjoyed her carbonara as well. The carbonara is supposed to be one of the larger dishes so I would like to try that the next time I visit. The drinks here were great. I would visit the bar just for their cocktails. Menu options were somewhat limited with an emphasis on sandwiches (one burger, one hot dog, and one chicken sandwich among a few others). Shout out to our server Alexis who was attentive, helpful, and personable. My wife loved her seasonal salad as well as the fish and chips. We both give thumbs up to the cheese curds (yummy). I'm generally not a fan of specialty drinks but The Burnout may have converted me. However, The Good Burger...not so good. Along with the "hand cut fries," nothing special, just meh. I ordered medium rare and got medium well. You just can't mess that up. Alexis offered to replace it but I didn't think that would have elevated it above standard fare. Might we come back? Likely. We got the cottage cheese fries and another pork dish (neither of which I tried bc I don't eat pork), 2 orders of oysters (very good), 2 orders of the duck gnocchi (good but very salty, enough to share IMO), italian beef (friend said it was good) and a bunch of drinks. With tax and tip it was around $550. The vibe is cool, a little loud but the music was old school hip hop - if you're in your 40's, think Buddha Lounge. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the service extremely friendly and helpful, and the overall vibe is electric. Even though it was very busy, we were seated almost immediately at a "communal table" The food and drinks are what's really important at a restaurant/bar and neither disappoints. Everything looks, smells, and tastes even better than you would have hoped. Their fries, burgers, steak and even house dressings are all worth a visit. The foie and chicken mousse was good, good flavor combinations but I wish the bottom later was creamy like the top to make it easier to spread on the bread. Steak tartare was also different. Much lighter than others I've had with the tomato and herbs contributing to that. I like a beefier flavor on the tartare, and given the amount of chips that come with the dish, I would add more protein. My favorite appetizer were the Cottage Fries, a heaping pile of manchego with a generous portion of prosciutto, I think this is a must order, and get their good sauce on the side to really elevate the dish. For the mains, we kick things off with their Gnocchi and Duck pasta. You can really taste the confit duck and the bread crumbs gave it a slightly crunchy texture. I loved it, and we also had to try the Lobster Reuben. I have I like the lobster tail and claw meat that was mild and sweet mixing with the traditional reuben ingredients. Obviously we had to try their burger because when in rome. We did the burger with the thick cut bacon. I liked the bacon, but I'm a fatty and wish it was even thicker like Au Cheval. I don't really understand why there are two restaurants next to each other sharing a kitchen and two menus when they feel the same. Seems like a lot of work for no reason. My first time going to The Good wolf. I've been to the bad wolf and it's excellent. We went to celebrate my brother birthday. We sat down ordered drinks and they were ok not spectacular I mention this because the drinks for the price we paid should be spectacular not just ok. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. And the restaurant was very nice. We placed our order for food. My husband received his oysters and he loved them. Then my order came out fish and chips but no one else's it was weird I shared my fries with everyone I wasn't going to eat while everyone waited. Unfortunately the fries were cold I didn't say anything but we all noticed. Ten minutes later the rest of the food came out. The food was good but the service wasn't great food orders should come out at the same time. Hopefully they will adjust their service and it should be fine. I'll go back in a few months see if it has improved. read more

This was one of the best meals and experiences I've ever had. Every person working there took great care of us. They were friendly, attentive, and thorough. The quality is absolutely outstanding at a very reasonable price point. The drinks were so delicious and creative - to my surprise with each sip I felt the different flavor profiles grace my tongue in waves so I could fully appreciate what they brought to the drink. We enjoyed sliders, the crab salad, the Monkfish, the beef Wellington, and the lemon dessert. All were unique, cooked perfectly, and each bite was so savory I felt like the critic from Ratatouille experiencing absolute joy in my increasingly unimpressed soul. Service was overeager bordering on oppressive (the busboy tried to take a plate with food on it twice and when he came over for the third time while I was actively eating off the plate, I gave up and let him). "Failed Attempt at Elevation" sums up the experience at the new brainchild of Little Bad Wolf (one of my favorite restaurants in the area). The Good Wolf, which sits next door with no signage, means well in its attempt to emulate its sister next door and definitely is the more glamorous of the two when it comes to appearances. She gives glamorous, dark, and moody vibes with a bit of sparkle that keeps it light. But serving face is ALL this bar (I would not call it a restaurant) does. Do not bother with the food. Not only will there be at least an hour delay before anything arrives at your table, but you and your guests orders will arrive erratically IF AT ALL. Should you enjoy those awkward moments of having to decide if you eat in front of others who don't have their food then this is your place my friend. Now let's talk about what actually makes it out of the kitchen (spoiler alert: it doesn't turn out well). The menu of light bites and small plates seems easy enough to execute considering what they pull off next door, but that's where you would be so very wrong. The food lacks flavor, presentation (if you're a fan of black plastic plates you'll be thrilled), and best of all if you are worried about food coming out too hot (or even really warm) you have one less thing to be concerned about. Table orders are clearly not cooked together on a ticket, or at all (orders get lost), so food clearly sits in the back waiting to be delivered for long periods of time (fried things coming out room temperature is a big giveaway). This brings us to the waitstaff facilitating that delicate dance from order to delivery. To make a long story short, the service from waitstaff is like watching a theater improv group get the cue "you work in a busy restaurant". There is plenty of movement and attempts to appear like they know what they are doing, but no attention is paid to what is going on at their tables (no check-ins, plates pile up, etc.) terrible communication skills with customers, and ultimately a genuine aloofness (the most memorable part outside of the fare at a restaurant is the friendliness and attentiveness of the service) which appears to be coming from pure inexperience. Multiple staff we interacted with did not know anything about what they were setting down on the table and just apologized. Don't expect management to have any oversight of what is going on because they are nowhere to be found unless called over to attempt to fix an issue at a table. Because I feel like it's important to leave things on a positive note, I will say that they do make a decent drink. However, you'll want to go pick it up yourself from the sidebar once the bartender makes it so it doesn't sit there for long periods of time watering down. This area seems to be visible to tables but not the waitstaff even when walking right by. Little Bad Wolf may want to consider continuing to hold off on any signage for a while at The Good Wolf until they bring the food and service up to a standard worth the association with an establishment as wonderful as its big sister. read more
