Not sure how I missed this joint but so glad I found it. Larry's is a small cocktail bar in the Lawrence House, which was built in 1830 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Because it is located in the lobby of the apartment building, it is not something you see from the street. The bar itself is very small, but there are multiple seating options outside of the actual bar. You are permitted to take your drink to the lobby or to the outside patio area. Both are nice and allow for a pleasant drinking experience, but folks that live in the building sit there as well, on laptops or reading. The vibe of the bar is super chill, with this crazy red hue that I love. I am not a big cocktail person per se, but if you are into them like The Queen is, then you are in for a treat. There are also non-alcoholic selections for wines, beers and cocktails for those that require that. In addition they also have bubbles, so that is a win for me. In addition to great cocktails and bubbles, they also do "Summer Movie Nights" on the patio. You can bring a blanket, grab a drink and enjoy. Larry's does not serve food, but you can order something to eat from The Uptown Deli (which has good sandwiches). There is street parking on Sheridan and it is about two blocks from the Lawrence Street El stop (once it opens again). Now that I am aware of its existence, I will be back to chill and have bubbles, and maybe catch a movie. read more

i have been meaning to try this place and it was definitely cute. The bartender was super friendly snd gave me this non-alcoholic rec once I told him I can't drink alcohol. Larry's is a unique bar that is tucked away in this building. It has hip lighting and decor. It even has an outdoor patio. We stopped by right before the Pulp show. There was only one person working and she had her hands full with the long line of people waiting for a drink. They seemed to be out of regular glasses because of the demand. My friend had a shot glass of champagne as there weren't other glasses. My drink was El Salvatore and one of my friends got an old fashioned served in a shot glass. My glass was the only one that had a normal glass. It's something I haven't seen before happen, but again the line was massive and only one bartender. Hope this isn't a recurring thing. read more

The lobby atrium space has so many great seating options for working and I noticed the cute coffee bar as well. Would be such a great spot for working from home! Larry's itself was classy, dimly lit, and timeless, open to the atrium so you could hear the live jazz band playing beautifully in the background. And the cocktail menu was soooo good! This is a cute little space, hidden within an apartment building along Lawrence. It's almost like a lobby bar, but in an an apartment building instead of a hotel. Makes me wonder, would it be fun to live upstairs? We've certainly enjoyed our couple of visits to Larry's and we'll definitely stop back, next time we're in the neighborhood. Larry's is a bar tucked in the lobby of a new apartment building on Lawrence. It's a chill spot to catch up with friends and be able to hear each other over the music. You can stay in the bar area or if you need more space, you could take your drinks out to the space in the lobby area. The bar area is small but there's plenty of seating and it wasn't too crazy busy even on a Friday night. I loved the aesthetic the red lighting gave to the bar space and the funky art on the walls. They had great cocktails at Larry's! They have a cocktail of the week and a dealer's choice. I highly recommend getting the dealer's choice. You tell the bartender the type of liquor and drinks you normally like, and they surprise you with something! The bartenders were amazing and whipped up a cool drink for me that was floral + tequila. What a special, unique place. I love Larry's and cannot wait to come back again. My husband and I are semi-determined to make it our local haunt. Great bar if you're looking for somewhere cool, quiet, and has good drinks. Larry's is located in the lobby of an apartment building. The bar itself is off to the side in a dimly lit cove with some seating. You are welcome to bring your drinks out into the immaculately decorated lobby. They have curated some great, vintage pieces for this place. It makes a great impression. We opted to do this instead of stay in the bar area. It's nice as long as you're comfortable with the lobby traffic. We were there maybe around 9 or 10. There is a light but steady flow of residents coming in and out. It does detract from the experience in some ways because you are distracted by looking at people and feeling them probably look at you. But at the same time, it was still really nice. I'm kinda into this place. It's a unique little bar right off the lobby of the Lawrence House - you actually have to walk through to find it. On a Saturday evening around 5, there weren't many people in the bar yet but there were some scattered around the lobby studying. There's tons of different seating options, and Larry's lets you take your drink wherever as long as you bring the glass back. Generally, the bartenders were pretty cool and helpful. I was super indecisive about which cocktail to order but was pointed in the right direction with the Lady Louise. My friend ordered a whiskey drink that was also very good. The Ambiance here is outstanding. Larry's is a want to be dive bar. It definitely has a cool hipster beatnik vibe about it. The lobby area is fashionable with eclectic furnishings from the blue crushed velvet "Friends" couch to the library tables there is something fun and funky going on here. The negatives are really finding the place and the staff. They were super friendly, but not attentive. Bartender made a good cocktail, but nothing special. We try to go here Sunday nights to listen to the jazz music. Great atmosphere and pretty quiet and easygoing. Paul the bartender is a nice guy! The serious moonlight and the improbable purple are my favorite cocktails. Also the crispy Brussels sprouts have no business being that good!!! The bar is located to the right of this area and has a mariners feel in the asthmatic. The bar is small but fun. The drink I ordered (the ambrosia) was just alright, almost like a tart whiskey sour. The bathrooms are actually really cool - lots of pink and a really interesting communal sink. There's also some bizarre art on the way to the bathroom that I could not stop staring at. I came here on a Thursday night with my boyfriend- we had just found out that it opened, and it is only a couple blocks from his apartment. I am so glad we found it! Most of the other bars in the area have a weird vibe and lack atmosphere. Larry's is in the lobby of a new apartment building, and even though the bar area is small, their liquor licence extends into the lobby where there are comfy couches and chairs, so there is plenty of room. Once the weather gets nice, they'll be opening up the patio, so I'm looking forward to that. The interior of the bar is really nice- I like the red hue, and the lobby area is nice as well. They play great music and the bartenders are friendly, if a bit busy- the cocktails are fairly complex so they take a bit longer to make. The bar itself is very small, only about 8ish chairs if I remember correctly, so it can be hard to squeeze in to get a drink with the other tables around. The cocktails are good- I had a "Cheetah" which was fantastic. My boyfriend had the "Uncle John" which was good, but was very smokey because of the mezcal, and we both agreed that my drink was better. Overall, we'll be back because its a nice location and I really like the lobby area- it was like sitting in a really nice living room but still being able to enjoy the atmosphere and music. My only complaint is that the drinks are pretty pricey...but that is to be expected for a specialty cocktail bar. read more

Finally a place where you can have a good cocktail, in a beautiful, comfortable and quiet location. Even if you seat in the lobby. It's cozy. The prices are a bit high for some. Like "Aperol Spritz". My GF had it, and it's mainly tonic water, a splash of aperol and sparkling wine. That's an expensive tonic water cocktail when the "Elks own" is well priced. What is this place?! I want to live here. Oh wait, you CAN. Larry's is a bar. In an apartment building. Seating is located in the lobby of this spacious building, which is more like a lounge than anything else. The actual bar area is quite small. The one annoying thing was that there were people sitting at the bar, actually wanting to have conversations while I was standing at the bar, actually wanting a DRINK. There are a few beers on tap and wine options. Cocktails are the primary focus here. I ordered a vodka gimlet. The bartender if I wanted it neat or on the rocks. I don't think a bartender has ever asked - so points for that. Drinks are fairly priced. The lounge is comfortable, spacious, and there's just as much opportunity for a lively social moment here as there is a private conversation. The low lighting is perfect. If I lived in this apartment building, I'd probably be an alcoholic. It feels like something out of a dream. read more

Why didn't this place exist during my 2 year stint in Uptown 2014-16? Y'all know I love a nice cocktail bar and this would have been my spot as I always complained there weren't any cocktail bars in walking distance from me and I always went to Uptown Lounge. Saw this place featured on the Whats New on Yelp section and it instantly caught my eye. I saw it was a dim lit joint with a nice light that says Larrys at the entrance. I told a friend about it and we shot on over there. Larrys is located on the right side in the lobby of a restored apt building called they Lawrence House in which I recall they starting doing work on when I was leaving the area in 2016. Once you walk inside of the building there is a door staff there to greet you. In the middle of the lobby you can see the nice seating area where there are tenants on their laptops and people just lounging. You will se the bright red light so you can hang a right and you are inside of Larry's. Very hipster vibe inside as they have casings with butterflies on the wall as well as some other pictures hanging. The bar itself has limited seating as there were about 4-5 chairs, but there are about 5 tables in the place and if its crowded which happened while I was there, you can grab a seat in the lobby. Very nice cocktail menu that has 2 sides...one for classic cocktails and the other for cocktails they specialize in. I started with the Larrys which is a salted coffee old fashioned. The drink started out good, but they put a bunch of ice in it in which I think and old fashioned should just come with the one cube and not a cup of ice...it watered down real fast. The Honey Crisp was very good and the Elks own was great. I tried my friend's Mamie Taylor and Cinnamon Sazerac and they were very good as well. Guy behind the bar was a pretty cool dud and was able to handle the whole room full of people at a nice pace. They do not serve food here but you are welcome to bring some in with you to soak up those dranks...lol! Good spot off of the Lawrence Red Line stop so if you're going to the Aragon Theater or Green Mill, Larry's is a good spot to head to before you go hear some awesome music and dance. read more

The drinks are good, the prices a little high but not crazy, the bartender seemed bored but did his job ok. What happened to the quality of the food and the service once upon a time. What a huge disappointment our fun evening turned out to be lackluster. We had drinks and light bites.. then decided to ordered take out. The thin burger was dry, (requested medium) over cooked, flavorless and not up to par. Hey hi. How's it going? So we tried this place because they were having a Half Acre Event frankly. I know, I know, me and my beer. Hey, I am what I am. Birds gotta fly, fish gotta swim, stinkers gotta stink.. you know, that sorta thing. Anyhow, Larry's is on, in fact , Lawrence, located inside of Lawrence House. I need to point out, that that's a lot of Larrys. Firstly,I would like to say, how about uptown? It's looking pretty good these days. Being the explorer types that we are, we decided to go forth into the Lawrence house to see what exactly the story may be. So, this apt. building apparently has its own diner and bar. It was kind of made for me. I like to eat. I also drink from time to time. So, it's in the lobby of this beautiful old gentrified apt. building, I think from 1929, if my memory serves me correctly. That whole history deal is always so interesting. It makes one speculate about what may have happened in this lobby, and even the apartments, over the course of 91 years. Anyway, Larry's is kind of a diminutive storefront type bar in which you can take your beverages to the main lobby of this building, or hang out in the bar itself even. The lobby has a plethora of ancient couches and chairs upon which you can rest your posterior. There's also a study area you can rest at while reading Chaucer or Malcolm Gladwell, and you know, drinking. It was poppin' but not problematically so. One of the bartenders looked an awful lot like Freddie Mercury, who was, of course, pretty awesome. We are so happy to have this cocktail bar and lounge in our neighborhood. As always, Lawrence House and Cedar Street did a great job picking a responsible business that has created an awesome concept, relaxed bar atmosphere and a unique environment. We really enjoyed the cocktails that we had, and the bartenders were very friendly and experienced. The lobby area where you can sit and enjoy your drink is beautiful and very comfortable. A guy and gal were working the bar. Friendly, talkative and play great music. I felt like I was hanging out with some old pals. The lobby is beautiful and I love that they kept it all original.
