Cool looking old dive bar on Clark in Andersonville. Farragut's is kind of like a history lesson. It's named for a Civil War general and even has a few photographs. Also it's cheap. This is cash only so have a few bills in the purse or wallet. Bars like this aren't as common as they used to be around here. It's just up from Simon's. That one gets more attention, and yes that place is better than here, but that doesn't mean this isn't good though. Cheap drinks. The best thing about it. It's about $4 for well cocktails. That can't be beat even by Simon's. Has no food but you can bring some in to eat. There's a few places by here. Even though it's not a fancy or even clean bar, it still has a few nice things and reasons to come. It has darts, a pool table, and it's pet friendly. Very nice ownership. Ana is generous, kind, and overall amazing. Farraguts has a very nice, friendly, pub vibe, so if that is what you are looking for, this could be your ideal destination. Drinks are pretty basic - nothing crazy - but I wasn't expecting much else. Prices are solid. Had a Bailey's shot + Stout ("Irish Car Bomb") for about $9.50 and a green tea shot for $7. The latter was a bit pricey IMO. Bear in mind, Farraguts is *cash only*. There is an ATM in the back, though. This bar is pretty narrow, but they use the space well. Several small tables, lots of bar space. One pool table in the middle. Magnetic darts set up in the back by the ATM. Touch tunes. If you're looking for bells and whistles, this is not the place. Don't go if you have a child. Went in for a quick drink with my wife and was asked "how can I help" worker said it was a bar only and not a restaurant. We said that's ok. She looked at our daughter in the stroller and asked if she was going to stay in the stroller or run around because she can't run around in there. I was vacationing in Chicago and staying with my friend in Andersonville. On my first night there I was hanging out with a few new friends I made at another bar in the neighborhood, and they brought me to Farraguts. This bar is definitely a dive bar and full of regulars. The bartenders Steve, Brian and Monica were all super nice and talkative, It's nice when you are there alone and trying meet new people. Steve made me try the delicious stuff called Malort (sarcasm). The bar has decently priced drinks, a pool table and a dart board. Music is played from a jut box If your in the neighborhood stop by and tell them you want to try Malort and that Trish from LA sent you. They have specials on beer on Tuesdays $2.50 pints. Definitely was glad I was taken there I ended up going back every most of my nights while on vacation cause it was near. read more

Cool atmosphere and cool crowd. I don't leave reviews but I had to come here because of how horrible we were treated yesterday by the bartender. She is either the unhappiest person on this planet or just clueless about how to serve customers. She was so overtly rude, and visually appeared like we were bothering her by ordering drinks. This was our first drink we asked for there and our first drink of the evening so we were completely sober and polite. All of us independently were asking why she was being so mean. Great little corner bar, which is not on a corner. It would be on a corner, if Farragut (the street) didn't dead end at Clark. Though Farraguts has been here just under 10 years, this location has been a bar forever. Like Simon's, it still draws a lot of the locals who have been drinking here under its various incarnations. This is a good thing. It gives Farraguts a "lived-in" feeling. At night, the crowd gets a little more upscale, but there's always room for everyone. You'll recognize Farraguts by the French door windows that open onto Clark Street. There's a full length mirror opposite the near end of the bar (which, under the inebriated circumstances, might not be the best thing) which sports the message "Smoking Allowed." The pool table is free, and there are daily drink specials, mostly in the $2 range. But there's a good selection of beers, including some (Chimay) you wouldn't expect in a bar like this. read more

A great, solid bar in Andersonville. I've only been on Tuesdays for the $2.50 pints. ANYTHING on tap. That includes local brews too! It's about the cheap beer here. There's some dingy TVS, one pool table, and a so-so jukebox. But it doesn't matter. Because you can't get a pint of Metropolitan for $2.50 most places. Farraguts is a Tuesday night only for me. It's not the Tuesday night $2.50 pints deal (more like steal) that they have. It's not the pool table or juke box, or the small tv's (seriously not the jukebox, it's filled with nothing but pop crap). It's not that the windows open and you can watch the A-ville crowd stroll by (though that is nice, the place needs some fresh air). It's not the sometimes lazy bartender's who take forever to get your drink or the weirdo regulars that like to stare. I go to Farraguts on Tuesday because Mama K asks me to... and of course to see all the other pretty yelp faces. read more

"MALORT" After trying to slyly convince my unsuspecting friend to give it a try, the bar tender slid on over and helped in my endeavor by trying to talk to said friend into it. Too bad though, since my friend was driving home and wanted to be responsible. I'm not sure if I should add a star for the bartender going along with my joke, or if I should take one away for him going along with my joke. Started yesterday at Bongo Room, moved on to Hopleaf for some good brews, then rolled into Farraguts with 10 people as some in the party wanted to check out the Masters. Not one complaint. -$5 Alpha Kings and $2 Miller Lites? Yes please. -Free pool? OK. -Free popcorn? I'll take it. -Dog friendly? Alright. I like dogs but don't have one of my own to enjoy, but luckily one of the regs had me watch her pooch, Marvin, while she shot some pool. Shout out to Marvin for being the chillest dog ever. -Monica was exceptionally nice, kept everyone in the party happy. So the $2.50 pint deal is indeed impressive. The only problem is that I'm not really a beer drinker and there aren't really specials on other drinks. If you are a beer drinker though this is the place for you. A decent selection and pints for $2.50, what more could you want? More often that not when I'm here I just end up having diet coke or some sort of soft drink. They're cheap and the bartender is happy to give you refills. The service is always friendly which is a plus. Sometimes when bartenders discover you're not really drinking they don't pay much attention to you but not here, they're nice. The space is nice and I love that they have coat hangers on the wall. In the winter this comes in very handy since no one really wants to sit in a bar with all of their winter stuff on. I also hate finding a place for everyone to pile their coats, etc. In fact as I write this I'm liking the coat hangers even more. More bars should have coat hangers on the wall! In terms of tables and chairs the stuff is pretty old and not in the best condition. Personally, I don't mind this and I feel it give the place some charm. But I'm not really a classy person so you may not share that opinion. You'll have to go to Farraguts and see if you like it for yourself. read more

Helllllooooo new favorite! I had my first run-in with Farragut's yesterday as one of my favorite Yelpers was kind enough to set up an event to get people together! I honestly didn't know what to expect. I had walked by the bar a couple of times and never really paid much attention to it , but boy was I surprised. First off, it is a smaller bar - with a few tables in the front, a decently long bar and a pool table. It has great old black and white photos on the wall from way back in the day of the Andersonville area. I love pictures like that. The bartender that was there was extremely nice and quick with the service. The best part about it? They have great beer specials, especially when you can have ANY,and I mean ANY draft you want for a TWO FIFTY! That's only 50 cents more then TWO DOLLARS! Well worth it people - especially since they have some great local craft beers on Tap. Metropolitan Brew and some Alpha King - you can't go wrong! They also have other favorites too - but come on, for this price on a Tuesday, you really can't go wrong. Hats off to the owners of this fine establishment. They do it right! read more

This is a very dive-y dive bar in my opinion. It's dark and full of locals. We ran in here to avoid the rain after dinner so we could sit and have a drink. Drinks were cheap. 2 vodka sodas were $8...total...in Chicago. The bar was cash only...we think. There was some sign saying something about cash only. It wasn't bad but at one point the only bartender walked away for a few minutes and disappeared. Could use some sprucing up as well. read more

This place used to scare me. But that's because we're fearful of the unknown. I didn't get it. But now I do. Farragut's is a neighborhood bar. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. Pool table, modern jukebox that'll gladly take that dollar off your hand for a song or two (if you're lucky), bartenders that aren't afraid to step out for a smoke, watch t.v. or play a game of darts (I mean that without sarcasm...I think it's perfectly cool since I always get my drink), and a few t.v.'s playing mostly sports. $4 for a tall vodka soda, light on the soda. Yes please and thank you. A friend of mine commented that one of the bartenders splits his pitcher up into pints, which he found pretty peachy. Checked out Farragut's the other night. It is a hop skip and a jump from my house, and given my bad experience at Hopleaf (review forthcoming) I was hoping for a nice relaxing night and this is the place for that. No pretension, no fancy decor, just nice chilled out staff with customers to match. Their beer selection is somewhat lacking compared to others around the neighborhood, but I found a few I liked well enough. Played some pool, met some nice people and had a great time. read more

This is my go-to bar and I adore it! It's not a dive bar, it's not a trendy Andersonville bar, it's a straight-up neighborhood bar. It's the type of place that gets loads of regulars at the bar. I've never seen it uber-packed a la the Hopleaf or even Simons. I've always managed to get a table with my friends which is bonus points in my book. Being a human sardine in a bar is completely unappealing. It's cash only, so don't get pissy when you go in with your credit card and nothing else. There's loads of ATMs in the neighborhood too y'know. I've yet to find cheaper drinks in the city as well. Top-shelf cocktails under $5? Unheard of! And they aren't eensy-weensy, they are of moderate size. Whenever I'm there for an evening with my friends we almost always get a round comp'd. The staff remembers me every time I come in (which isn't more than once a month) and say "hello" . It's a low-key bar for low-key people. read more

People suggested Hopleaf, and I love Simon's but both were quite full when we arrived at 9 or so, so we headed to Farraguts, which ended up being a great choice. They had a bunch of crowd-pleasing beers on tap, a jukebox of fun/ironic tunes at the ready, and there was plenty of space for the wedding party to socialize and drink until about midnight, when I was so tired I thought I would fall over. Bonuses: easy to hail a cab afterward and plenty of space outside to throw your bouquet into a crowd of girls that don't want to get married. I have walked by this place a million times, and maybe because of it's proximity to all of the snobbish bastards at nearby Cheetah gym, I have stayed away. Well isn't that what St. Patrick's day weekend is for? The lowering of inhibition, the expansion of boundaries? I came to Farraguts this past Saturday, as a way to begin the wind down of a busy St. Patrick's day. In a related story, never, ever try and ride the Clark bus (22) north through Wrigleyville during St. Patrick's day. Kelly green d-bag parade folks. Don't do it. A cab driver almost beat up our bus driver, not pretty. Actually got out of his cab, as his frat-boy customers, crammed in the cab like sardines, looked on nervously. Anyway, Farraguts was great, a small bar, complete with a full selection of adult beverages at reasonable prices. A pool table crammed along the bar, love this. I can definitely see myself capping a long night off here, rolling those little lacquered balls around that worn green felt. The atmosphere is a little dreary because of the lighting, but the place is really well kept up it would seem. The bartender is all business, but not to the point of snobbery. A short, dark, sleek woman, whose thick-framed glasses seem worn in earnest. I watched a few times as she deemed the bar traffic minimal enough to grab a smoke. It was one of those cigarettes that was so skinny, you thought it was about to disappear into the fabric of space and time. Poof. Virginia slims, is that what those are called? Cheap beer (they actually have pitchers). Good specials. Not wrigleyville. Four stars Farraguts, for not bein' a pretender. read more

I happened to stop by on a Tuesday for $2.50 pint night, which is an awesome deal that includes every single beer they have on tap. The jukebox was fun to toy around with, and the pool table was in use all night. Bartender was extremely friendly. It never got crowded; we were two of maybe ten people in there all night.
