Small, almost tiny corner bar, not really a pub. They make the most out of the space they have though. Immaculate pool table, with two sets of steel tipped darts boards. Very neighborhoody, lots of big dogs in here a lot. Nothing special beer list, limited liquor. Small outside patio. Clean. More than worthwhile for my purposes. read more

Bartenders didn't keep track of who was at the bar first, so when a big group of louder folks came in, my wife and I leaving were left a wait of 30 minutes at the bar while multiple others jumped us in order. There was also no help to keep the darts area clear; we had to stop our game mid way through because others were getting in the way even after us asking multiple times to leave some space. The more the merrier, but a bit of help to keep the customers already there that are trying to get a second drink and keep their darts game going would have been appreciated! We closed out and left before we wanted to. Would have loved to stay and enjoy the good vibes! read more

This is one of those really cool, hip yet chill neighborhood bars. There's very little drama and it's just very fun. Matthew, the bartender, is a big part of it being a wonderful place. He's a terrific bartender and it's evident by watching him that he just cares so much about the patrons and Goldie's doing well. Plus, he's a great mixologist, so it's a lot of fun to watch him do his thing. Overall, it's a place I am so happy that I discovered. Dog friendly, too! read more

A group of us came after our dance classes and we had a great time...took over the jukebox, even had a little danceathon..lots of room, and our bartender was adorable (sorry, don't remember his name), but ya'all need to clean out your water pipes/tonic water etc. First Tito's and Tonic was flat, flat, flat...second one tasted mildewy...def dirty pipes. Goldie's is pretty divey but has all the ingredients needed for a solid night out. There's a dartboard, a pool table, and a TouchTunes, plus plenty of seating and friendly service. Drinks are a bit overpriced (the vodka sodas my friends and I ordered were definitely not worth the price), but they have a decent selection of beers on tap and the overall atmosphere makes up for it. Will be back for some chill nights out in the future. read more

Finally made it up here last night to hang with my buddy An and to my surprise some fellow yelpers were there as well. $4 pitchers of PBR were in effect and they had $4 Stella on draft. I'm not a big PBR guy, but $4 a pitchers you just can't beat, especially in these economic times. I looked up and saw the guys at the bar playing the old Nintendo games like Contra and Bad Dudes. Ahhh the memories! Pretty cool crowd, but mainly dudes. They have a pretty nice space for darts as well. The music was great and the bartender was cool, doing multiple duties during the evening. Why did this bar get good ratings? As I walked in this podunk poor excuse of a bar, the door said " People love us on Yelp". Yeah right! First of all, whats up with the bartender with the beard? Did he not remember that it was a customer service environment? Why was he wearing a shirt with many holes in it? Did I need to see his nipples through that hole in his shirt? Why was he too busy on his mac book? We tried to order a pitcher of beer but he was too wrapped up in the Sox game to even try to help us. We also wanted to know the specials but he tried to direct us to the total opposite of the bar to read the blackboard. Is it that hard to just say what the specials are? The place is clean but they don't serve food. The bartender is rude. The pool table runs like it was in the Chicago marathon. If you were going around that area, go to the bar down the street. read more

Goldie's has all of the charms without all of the dive. It's still dark and cozy, but it's also clean, the staff friendly, and the owner has remembered my name every time I've gone in here (despite the fact that I'm usually not in a state to remember their name). You'll see people playing darts, shooting stick, bringing in dogs, and mowing down tamales. Order food in and have it delivered because they don't have a kitchen. This place has also put on sporting events that I've wanted to watch more times than I can count. Goldie's has been a regular favorite for my wife and I. It's one of my favorite spots in North Center. read more

LOVE THIS BAR! It was amazing to find a bar right around the corner from our house after becoming northsiders. Theres something comforting about coming to a bar where the bartenders are more like your friends than people just there to pour a drink in a cup and move on. The specials are amazing perks to coming here and would recommend it to anybody. Only thing I wish was that they keep actual bottles of wine here for any season. I don't want a personal size of wine that i've seen on the checkout at walgreens or hasn't moved on the shelf. I want a fresh glass of Rose in the summer, a nice dry Malbec in the fall. Thats my only recommendations to the owners. Patrons are great, the pool table is an AMAZING perk (probably the only reason I come back) and the darts are a plus! A cute corner bar with a decent beer selection. I think they have PBR for a dollar every day, but I'm more into trying new beer and they maybe ten microbrew choices. They were out of one beer on draught when we went. Unfortunately, it was a beer we wanted, but they still had other choices I was happy with. The door handle came off when we walked in, so caution on that. Hopefully they've fixed it by now. The entire bar was ran by one guy. He did a pretty darn good job catering to everyone, though! Anybody who thinks this is a dive bar needs to get out of their neighborhood more often. A dive bar does not have 1) exposed brick (unless it been exposed by one too many bar fights and/or gunplay), 2) new woodwork (unless it was recently replaced due to aforesaid gunplay), 3) clean and functioning bathrooms, and 4) so many TVs, much less flat screens. Goldie's may have been a dive bar at some time in its past, but that time is long past. Now it's basically a neighborhood hangout with dollar PBRs. And since PBR has become so hot among the kids these days, that's not even a sign of diveyness. It's a small place with plenty of seating (a plus) and not enough glassware (a minus). Hang on to your glass, because you're much more likely to get a refill on your PBR if you have a glass to put it in. And if you break your glass, you're SOL. Cabs are plentiful and douchebaggery is at a minimum. read more

This place used to be the perfect, neighborhood, sports-dive bar mix. Great staff, great crowd, great drinks. Then the management changed, they sold the pool table, and are trying to make it into some kind of open mic bar. The one time I met the new manager, he threatened to kick my friends' ass. Needless to say, it's no longer the bar I loved, and I won't be going back. UPDATE: I've been told that I'm banned by the new manager. Also, I guess they have audio/video surveillance in the bar? Oh heck yes. For some reason I pictured this place to be dark, full of old folks as well as hipsters and one of the many olfactory fallouts of the smoking ban. Goldies is none of these. It feels sort of new in that cheapy strip mall bar sort of way, the bathrooms are clean and have TP (but those god forsaken hand towel rolls which are never replaced it seems). Mike Tyson's Punch Out on the wireless Nintendo. Dollar PBRs filled pretty quickly provided there's a buck sitting under your empty pint glass at the ready, not *too* many hipsters until near last call, and lots of bar games to pass the time if you're bored with your company. I will absolutely be back, couch change in hand. And yeah - you cheapasses better tip. Go one for one if you can, there's no way that dude was making nearly enough in tips considering he's the only one back there and runs his skinny arse off. read more

Why does everyone have such a boner for this place? I don't get it. It's ok, I guess. Yes, there is cheap PBR, but for those of us who refuse to drink PBR there are also beer specials and some reasonably priced drinks. I think I was paying $8 for a double tall vodka tonic, but I'm a cheap girl and would drink Popov so the price tag isn't really all that reasonable for me. There is a big screen above the bar that shows any major game that might be happening and on off nights you can play Tetris. Sitting in a bar surrounded with strangers watching Tetis is not really my idea of a good time. The jukebox is pretty good. I learned how to get more money out of Craig by asking him for jukebox money, so that's a bonus. There are also dart boards, but they are in an awkward place that just doesn't seem conducive to playing. Other than that, it's just a bar with cheap shitty beer. Good beer at good prices. That's the sign they have on their wall - I completely agree. This bar looks kind of tiny from the outside - we were a bit nervous that we had arrived too late and it was already full. However, the room actually goes back much further than we thought so there was a pretty good amount of moving space for us once we entered. We were immediately served $1 PBRs from a really nice bartender. You can't beat $1 PBR drafts ($4 pitchers) period. PBR is so shitty that it should always cost $1 - Goldie's knows what's up. I really, really liked this place. There were a good amount of tables for all of the Yelpers to gather and have good conversation. There was also a ton of bar space (for a bar that looks tiny) so there was a lot of seating. There's a nice pool table (the bartender will kindly give you change for your games) and there are two dart boards. Oh, and did I mention there is a Pacman table?! YES. Pacman video table. F'ing awesome. There were people sitting at it but my friend and I tried to commandeer it for a good part of the evening. There were a ton of board games in the back corner near the ladies room and there was Nintendo. Yep, Nintendo. Free NES for the masses that you can play right at the bar. Awesome. Bathrooms were nice but the lock on the ladies was a little weird. The doorknob was a little broken so if you weren't paying attention, the door wouldn't latch all the way. Several Yelp ladies had the door opened on them throughout the night. I never did but I was paying enough attention to make sure the door was shut tight. There's a huge folder of take-out/delivery menus for your perusal at the bar when you've had too much cheap PBR and you're so drunk you want to eat an entire pizza. The places will deliver right to the bar so you don't even have to leave your seat. Nice. Oh, and the bartender had a pretty good mix of music playing from his iPod all night. I was really excited when Fleet Foxes entered the mix - I complimented the bartender and his music selection but I was pretty pissed when he didn't honor my request to play another one of their songs. Oh well. I will be back here, friends. It's not super far from my apartment and it's on a stretch of Lincoln that has a lot of parking (right outside the Trader Joe's - weird) and a few other good bars. The beer is cheap, the place is clean and the staff is friendly. What more could you ask for? read more

I came here for the cheap beers - $1 PBR! And there's a few other beers for cheap - $3. I came here with the assumption that this place was a seedy little dive bar that would be reeking of smoke, blaring loud music, and so dark you could hardly see the people you came with. Man, I was happily disappointed. Smoking is allowed, but there's an air filter that takes some of the sting of smoke out of the air, it's adequately lit so you can see your friends on the other side of the bar, and pool/darts! Yippie! I'm sure that people would classify this as a dive, but it's a nice classy dive that I would take my mom to - that is if she drank beer. read more

Wow, $4 pitchers of PBR. Heck with money being a little tight, this place can ease the burden for sure! Throw in a few friends and ample room to mingle and you have yourself a good neighborhood bar. It is not a big bar but doesn't seem too packed like others are. I appreciate the place having a pool table and dart boards. I also like having ample screens for some good sports watching. Goldies is right down the street from me, making it a really great location to watch some games and drink some $1 PBR - I mean, that alone makes it a place worth going. And Mrs. Pac Man. If you're looking for cheap beer, this is definitely your place. I would love to give Goldies two additional stars, but what's holding me back is an occasion where the bartender threw an actual hissy fit upon seeing the tip my boyfriend left on his bar tab. I don't know if I've ever seen such childish behavior from an adult. Here's what happened - got the bill for $10 worth of PBR's, left a decent tip (granted - not a 100% match per drink - but still decent) and when the bartender saw it he literally gave a giant eye roll, crumpled the receipt, threw it behind him and walked away. I've been a server and I've tended bar and no matter how shitty the tip was, I never took my anger out on the customer, embarrassing them in front of their friends and leaving them completely bewildered. I don't think there's any way I could not be a fan of a bar that serves $1 Pabst all the time. First of all, I love Pabst and anyone who doesn't is a liarface, fin. The place is actually quite nice as well, the door on the girls bathroom was a little tricky but knocking first solves that problem. The darts look fun but there's usually someone playing and I get to drunk while I'm waiting my turn. There's also old school Nintendo sometimes. The crowd is very laid back, no one bothers you. It's nice. One of my favorite parts is that it's across the street from a restaurant that serves game meats, I like stare at it out the window and think about eating bear. It's a little far from me, but I make purposeful trips here because it's a good place. read more

Let me try to describe this place in two words: watered-down. From the drinks: watery PBR is still beer, and for only $1, is OK. My whiskey and diet was more like whiskey and water with a little syrup in there for taste. Perhaps a problem with their taps/soda gun? Otherwise, it was OK in here. Beer was cheap and plentiful, even though it tasted like it was spiked with water. Darts, pool, Nintendo, and a really cool old-school two-player Pac Man game rounded out the entertainment. The bartender was really nice, prompt with service, and had a folder full of take out/delivery menus at the ready since I was too indecisive about tamales earlier in the night. After months of walking by, intrigued by the sign advertising $1 PBRs but unwilling to expose my inner alkie to the world by checking it out in the early afternoon, I met up with some friends here on Saturday night. The $1 PBRs were in fact, one dollar; others specials included $3 Jim Beam and something else I can't remember. The place has a great friendly vibe and was full without being crowded. The bartender was wearing what looked like a Gryffindor scarf (though he maybe was better suited to Hufflepuff) Snakes on a plane was showing on the projector and the bartender gave us a wireless SNES controller so we could play Mario All Stars on a smaller TV. My inner 10 year old was humiliated by my now exposed inner alkie as I flailed along trying to play Mario 3. I hear Tuesdays are the sanctioned Nintendo nights. read more

6 months ago my rating of Goldie's would've been 2 or 3 stars. I used to think it didn't have much to offer other than $1 PBR drafts (and I'm more of a cocktail girl myself). But I've got friends who swear by the place and visit often, so I gave it several more shots--the place grew on me. First, it's a hop-skip-n-jump away from where I work, which makes for a convenient Happy Hour locale. It's also not too far from home, so I can easily ride my bike or walk to and from. Second, it's very clean. Yet it can sort of be considered a dive bar. Yet, it's honestly the cleanest dive-type bar I've seen in town. Third, there's that cheap PBR (pitchers too!), for those nights when the funds just aren't there. Mixed drinks/other beers aren't too pricey either. A slew of other reasons I'm now a fan: -The two bartenders who work there remember faces and often chat with the regulars. (Plus, they both have decent tunes they'll play from their respective iPods--respite from some of the terrible music some bar-goers select on the internet juke box). -They'll often hook up old Nintendo games (Mario Bros. 3, Mike Tyson's Punch Out!) for bar patrons to play. -The bar is small but never feels too packed for comfort. -The clientele ranges on any given night so you don't always get the same ol' crowd. -They have dartboards, and darts are just plain fun. read more
