    YAAAAAY!!!! OPEN AGAIN!
    Rachel O.

Soooo happy they're open again!!!! Terrific strict standards per COVID19 reopening instructions. High tops 6 feet apart, hand sanitizing stations everywhere, plastic disposable cups, and bartender Henry NEVER removed his mask!!! Love you, Henry!!!!

    A delicious absinthe drink :)

My go-to spot for delicious cocktails, great music, and amazing staff. Not sure I know how to use hashtags but #KoniandHenry

3 Sheeps Paid Time Off! On tap :)

I was surprised when I popped in on a Friday night and they actually had a beer on special! Weekend drink specials are rare! $4 for Two Brother's Domaine DuPage, I'm game. They had a lot of good beers on draft - FFF Zombie Dust, Paid Time Off! by 3 Sheeps Brewing, Milk Stout Nitro by Left Hand Brewing, and a bunch more. I was impressed with their on tap selection but they had an even more extensive bottle collection. If you want to hipster out, they have PBR as well. They have a whole page of beer cocktails which are pretty cool, as well as normal cocktails. We got a couple shots of Jamo while there, too! Prices weren't bad either, 2 beers and 2 shots ran us $18 for a round. Bartenders were friendly and knew their stuff. The Double is a chill, laid-back option for some drinks at acceptable prices. I'll def be back!

The Double is your solid Single choice to chill. Introduced to this establishment by my trusted Brother in law, a long time personal friend of the owner. They have a colorful Chicago history that is worth reminding them to retell! Dark, yet inviting. Top shelf yet blue collar affordable. Hip yet normal. The Double rally gets it and os worth a visit or 10. The interior is tastefully done. Nice selection on tap and in the bottle (including standards like Brouwerij Huyghe's Delirium Tremens and newcomer projects like "Warpigs"). This place and the local crowd they draw is tops! Get in here! No gimmicks, just a true local bar experience.

The Double is just a block down from the Burlington, and about three blocks from the Whirlaway Lounge. The Double's layout can serve for two purposes: either on a date, or a night with the boys. The back end of the bar is chic and intimate as chair level seating allows you to watch the rest of the bar or focus on the date your with [make-out session]. Henry usually has the three flat screens on with an evening sporting event. To mix it up you'll find cartoon network or movies like No Country For Old Men playing. The tv's are almost always muted unless its a Bears game. There is a jukebox filled with your classics, otherwise the bar cycles good music within a custom playlist- Kid Cudi to Alice in Chains..... If you like Beer- The Double has great taps on hand and larger (unique craft-brews) bottles for share. I've drank everything from an Old Fashioned to a dirty Goosetini, but Henry's capabilities as a mixologist is always able to fancy something anew. Things like Absinth, or bacon marinaded Makers Mark can make for tasty gulps. A few negatives come to light as there is no food on the menu. When it gets busy you may be waiting a few minutes for your next or first cocktail. Two motorcycle club/bars are down the block and across the street. Bathrooms are clean and quant but are single serving sized. Ca$h is King as an ATM can feed you currency at a $3dollar charge. Yes, Henry holds down the fort almost 6-nights out of the week. Yes, he resembles a soft spoken Easy E, but as others have noted he is a genuine, classic-style barkeep that is unpretentious who naturally oozes class in a neighborhood that needs his style.

I have Visited The Double and came across a cool atmosphere, enjoyable friends. You Could have BYOF Bring your Own Food is allowed or order through someone for delivery. Mostly like this place is a great social network enviroment - Henry is a great Bartender - and would recommend to try the drink list on the Menu. I have tried most of them and boy they are Greeeeeaatt!! Try the Purple Moon - Highly recommend it! Great Place for parties and no need to go to Lincoln Park of a distance for a neighborhood bar with a great place to bring friends and all. Just as your tasting your Beverage the Bartender will provide some snacks and chat along with you with a smile.

You gotta love when Omar is in a Tindr pic of your friends swipe throughs!!

We sat at the bar, because it's my default settings or my AuDHD need for routine. Very attentive bartender who greeted us right as we sat down. I'll be honest. I ordered a gin and tonic. My estimation is that this G&T was 75% tonic. I didn't say anything because I don't know what to say. I also do not like confrontation. The venue itself is fantastic! We were there to see KING MALA. ADORE EVERYTHING ABOUT HERE. My boyfriend sprung for VIP tickets. I have no money but meeting her was amazing. Highly recommend seeing a chow here. Really enjoyed the live music as well, although it was hard to chat nearby because it was really loud at times (still loved it and we just moved away a bit so we could chat and still enjoy the vibes. There are a LOT of kids on this patio, which I always find to be a little odd to me at bars/breweries, but everyone was pretty well behaved and parents were attentive so it was not a real issue. I really appreciate that the owners are trying to be welcoming to everyone- there were all different kinds of people hanging out, on dates, hanging out with friends, etc. A great first date spot I bet! I'm not a beer drinker but they had good alternatives and my companions who did try the beers had rave reviews. Again just a great addition to the neighborhood and highly recommend a visit!

With that, my experience at Lake Effect Brewing Co. was fantastic. Though their beer menu isn't terrifically vast, they have a solid selection, with some options being delightfully creative! After trying a sample, I ordered a 5oz pour of a watermelon something (forgive me, I don't remember the exact name), a lovely brew that I greatly enjoyed sipping on their patio. Speaking of which, the patio is a surprisingly large and comfortable space. It's perfect for enjoying a cold one, especially when the weather is nice. Whether you're there on your own, with friends, or making brand new ones, the area is ideal! The only thing I'll mention is this: you know how, in a Chicago alley, you're never really alone thanks to the presence of certain 1-lb creatures. Because the patio borders an alleyway, you can't avoid seeing a couple of these guys running along the sides. As for the service, I really appreciated how friendly and welcoming the owner and his colleague were. There was also no problem trying a sample, which may be common in such places, but was nonetheless appreciated. Finally, in a world where everything costs an arm and a leg, I appreciate that their prices are reasonable. One of the things I love about local breweries is that there is always something new to try. With this, plus the friendly, comfy, and low-key vibe, I will absolutely be adding Lake Effect to the rotation of places where I am a regular.

I'm so glad I found it because it did not disappoint. We ordered a duck grinder with sweet potato tots subbed for fries, along with a cheeseburger from the kids menu. The quality and flavor of everything was excellent, as was the value. The duck grinder and very generous side of tots was enough for two meals (for me, at least). But even if it wasn't, I wouldn't care because it was so unique and delicious. The richness of the tender, well-seasoned duck was complemented beautifully by the chimichurri, and the roll was just the right size and thickness to hold everything together while letting the filling take center stage. The burger was also great - and at a quarter pound vs the half pound burgers on the regular menu, it's a nice choice if you don't want something huge. Whatever is happening in the Avondale Tap kitchen, they've got a great thing going. I'd order again (or check them out in person) in a heartbeat!
