Sleeping Village is a great spot! I came here for a concert a few weeks ago and it was an awesome time. The building is pretty unassuming on the outside and looks a lot smaller than it actually is. Once you're in, the main space indoors is a big open bar with some tables/booths and places to sit but also a lot of standing room. There is a big drink menu that is projected onto the wall that is pretty beer heavy, but there are some other options for non beer drinkers! I got a jalapeno ranch water that was really good. There is a large patio space that looks so fun for the summer. The concert venue is in the back. It's pretty small, but perfect for more intimate shows. We had so much fun!! This place really is such a gem, and I can't wait to come back for some drinks on the patio when the weather warms up. read more

The name of this bar and venue is adorable. So nicely done right off the bat! Lots of seating for small-medium sized groups. Two of which were having a great time when we arrived. We sat at the bar, because it's my default settings or my AuDHD need for routine. Very attentive bartender who greeted us right as we sat down. I'll be honest. I ordered a gin and tonic. My estimation is that this G&T was 75% tonic. I didn't say anything because I don't know what to say. I also do not like confrontation. The venue itself is fantastic! We were there to see KING MALA. ADORE EVERYTHING ABOUT HERE. My boyfriend sprung for VIP tickets. I have no money but meeting her was amazing. Highly recommend seeing a chow here. Sleeping Village is where one of my favourite artists had played recently. It was a great concert! The space inside is pretty big and it's a good venue to host a cosy concert. They had a patio as well which was quite well lit and relaxed! A good spot to grab a bunch of beers and hang out. read more

Such a lovely cozy spot for a drink. When we popped in they were playing jazz and it was such a welcoming lsid back vibe. The bartenders were helpful and let us sample a handful of beers before we made our drink decision. We didn't stay long since we were just there waiting on table at Warlord. Darkly lit front bar with great local beer/cider menu, and nice small space in the back for live music. Saw London's Ibibio Sound Machine here this past fall and it was great! Doorman and bar staff were all great- I could have used this place here in 2014-17 when I lived in the neighborhood! Only negative is parking (if driving here) is very hard to find. I stopped by for a pop-up event hosted by an external group and enjoyed the space and the variety of drink options on their menu! This spot gives off dive bar vibes but is very spacious. They have a small music venue area in the back and a private fenced patio area to the side of the building. Not sure if one bathroom was broken, but sharing a communal men's bathroom with everyone was a little odd. read more

My friend and I got there just before the rush and were able to grab a booth. The atmosphere is laid back. Not too quiet, not too rowdy. They have live shows, check their website, but the DJ that night was great. The drinks were pretty good. I had the decent old fashioned for $13. I also tried Negroni for the first time. This place isn't much for me--it's not my sort of place. Perhaps it's because I came here to see a live podcast event and so it was a different type of show? There were seats for that show, but I'd assume that when there's a band playing here that's not the case. It wasn't crowded, but the seats were not super comfortable. The lobby area is large and nondescript. There's a bar area where you can pick up a drink. Parking is terrible but there's a bus stop right outside the building. I can't say that I'll seek out a show here, but if something was happening that I wanted to attend (post-pandemic), I wouldn't summarily dismiss the idea. read more

I normally like this place a lot and would give it a 4 or a 5. It's gotta great patio/beer garden kinda area and a nice looking bar with a good beer list. But I'm annoyed that they charged a 20$ cover at the door to the bar area even though they have a separate venue entrance inside the place. Grab a drink from the bar and proceed back to the show, where the acts were good the night I went. Prices on the show were pretty reasonable too, the drink prices were average. Tucked away in the Ukrainian neighborhood in Logan Square, Sleeping Village quickly became our headquarters during our stay in Chicago. My friends agreed to make the journey to Chi town with me for my birthday and this gem of a micro brewery was just a few blocks away from our Airbnb. We stumbled upon this place on the way to a taqueria nearby. From the outside, looks are deceiving. Nevertheless, we decided to check it out and loved every minute we spent in this place! The service was impeccable, and the locals that frequent SV helped to elevate our experience. Ask for Birdman when you get there, he's the best and tell him the Miami crew sent ya! They open around 11am and stay open late since they also moonlight as a concert venue! Most shows feature local/native Chicago artists. Coffee and small bites are available early in the day but I suggest grabbing some brews and enjoying the outside patio if the weather is nice. read more

Did you live in Logan Square for a decade? We're you a hipster and moved to Avondale in your sunset years (30s)? Do have strong opinions about music and art? If so then you've been here or will be here. Great venue, great drinks and all that jazz. It's known for that. Patio is IMMACULATE for summer hangouts. Never had a bad time here and I love it. The crowd will most likely be wearing all black or still trying their hardest to be different™. That's a small price to pay though for a good drink and music spot. What I also want to say is that, if you are sober, their list of non-alcoholic beverages is expansive. It's really rad for us who quit drinking for whatever reason. They have kombucha, seltzers, sodas, CBD drinks, etc. There is no "we only have Heineken 0.0" at Sleeping Village. I am not a huge customer (couple times a year at most) but the vibe is always on point and the staff is relaxed. It's better than those shit concept bars that we went to in Logan Square. Finally, If you aren't in your 30s and reading this review and want to show up here, wear arch support insoles in your canvas sneakers, you'll thank me later. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. Came here for a concert after my gf's wallet went missing and we did everything we could to prove that she was over 21. Mind you, we are both grown adults who do not in ANY way look like we could be under 21. We called ahead 5+ times to ask the venue if there was any way they would let us in without a physical ID, to no response. My gf had photos of her ID, passport, AND birth certificate along with her physical graduate school ID and asked the bouncer if they could verify her that way. Bouncer not only repeatedly refused, but was extremely rude to both of us, eventually kicking out of the venue all together into below zero temperatures. He refused to make any compromise or even let us talk to a higher up at the venue. We were polite the entire time only to be met with indifference and dismissal. I'm absolutely flabbergasted and beyond angry--this man made my girlfriend cry and ruined our night. read more

This is a difficult place to describe. The night we were there it was like a dance klub for hipsters. I can't tell you how many male ponytails, man buns, goatees, and moustaches we saw on the dance floor (EDM seemed to be popular on Saturday night). Large space, cool design, good drinks! Showed up around 5 pm on a Thursday and were immediately impressed by the space. Don't be fooled by the nondescript outside. There are large community tables, booths, and a bar to sit at. The outside looks like it'll be really nice with the trees and lights once the warm weather hits. Server was very friendly and the drinks were delicious and strong. The margarita was my favorite. I thought projecting the menu on the wall was really interesting and the music was very chill. Although I'm glad I got here at 9:30pm when it wasn't as crowded and got a seat at the bar. Bartenders were really friendly. Nice vibe but they had only four cocktails! So that was kind of a letdown. Ok so i definitely do j'adore this place and lurv coming here but they recently got rid of the smaller set of booths nears the larger booths when you walk in and turn right.... this has completely ridded this space of ideal seating for smaller groups. The other option is those strange, long cafeteria style seating, during a pandemic? I just don't trust like that... i don't want to come here with a singular friend and take up a big booth, that feels sinful, gluttonous, even... how do we get these booths back? What sins have i neglected to repent for that has caused me to deserve this loss? ?? Went to a pop up event here. Cool space that the vendors were able to use well. There's a bar but we didn't have any drinks so I can't judge that. They have a vintage photo booth, which is a big bonus. SO GLAD I finally came to check out Sleeping Village. Awesome drink selection. All the beers I had were delicious and very fresh. Pours were excellent. They have this Totally Roasted Nitro Cider that I may or may not have ordered again...and I'm not a cider guy. The "taproom" area was sleek and new. Plenty of open tables, booths, bar seating. Patio looked nice too but it was freezing out so didn't hang out there much. The stage in the backroom was legit. Good sound, lighting, and plenty of space.
