The best time in Chicago! DJ sabado was spinning & we met all our friends here, the vibe was intimate and the space was set up perfectly. The ambiance was classy, with plants and foliage and lots of wood finish everywhere. We got there around 1030 & had no issues getting tables which are first come first serve, but the music had us mostly standing and dancing anyway! It did get full though near 12. I had the Milagro (margarita) and it was incredible. 3 was all i needed for the entire night to keep the vibe going, they weren't too sweet or too strong, just right. The music kept changing and gave a little bit of everything which was exactly what the crowd wanted. Hip hop, reggaeton & Latin trap, r&b etc. & People weren't afraid to dance, strangers were hyping each other up, the whole place even danced together when well-known songs came on. The bathrooms were relatively clean (for a bar) and the lines for them never got too long. We didn't have to wait outside in the cold to get in and finding street parking wasn't mission impossible. And to top it all off, it's right next door to a Taco Bell to feed your munchies when you leave after a night of drinking Love this place, will be back 1000% We had the most amazing time read more

Fun bar to listen to hip hop and raggaeton - all of my favorites! The place had no cover when I went on a Friday night and I arrived around 11pm when there was no wait to come in. It is quite hot with minimal ventilation towards the back half of the bar, but it is nice having the balcony open near the DJ booth. I usually have a good time at this place knowing they always play great hip hop and have decent prices. As soon as we arrived we ordered Don Julio and Jamo Coke from the bar. Charged $17. Cool. No problem. Ordered that SAME round 3 times with the same bartender, Sergio. Same price, $17. All this time paying cash. I usually don't like to change bar tenders but ours was busy at that time so we decided to order from a different dude, Leo. Short light guy with a shaved head. Same drinks, Don Julio and Whiskey Coke. But this time we were charged $23 for that SAME round. $23!!! So I've been around the block and I know when someone is urinating on my leg while telling me it's raining. We then ask him, "did the price all of a sudden go up within the last 30 minutes?" Knowing he was caught, tried to make it seem like the person that have been serving us was "hooking" us up and he was ringing us up "correctly". One thing I hate most about bars isn't the crowd or poorly made drinks-- it's fraud bartenders like these. Ultimately I decided to open up a tab (from Sergio) to really see what was being rung up and how much these drinks (really) cost. So I've uploaded my receipt. Although I thought if we order from the bar, there shouldn't be tax on the bill, that's fine. But the receipt clearly shows that Leo the bartender was OVER charging us. He even stated that that's the price he put into the computer ($14 each for Don and $9 each for Jamo) and that he was just telling us how much it was. Clearly the receipt says $9 each for Don and $6 each for the Jamo. Plus tax and some change off course. We've always liked going to this bar. But having these kinds of people working behind the bar trying to take advantage of patrons is unacceptable. If it weren't for the other, honest bartenders there-- this review would've been 1 or two stars. 3 stars is being generous for having a crook behind your bar. read more

Generation X is getting too old to step out, so it stands to reason that most hipster areas of the city will feature '90s music. Black Lion has the R&B/hip hop jams to help you put your back into it. Featuring beer as the main focus of their drink menu, there is still a full bar to make your favorite mixed spirits, and a limited cocktail list with something like four syrupy selections guaranteed to give you a hangover if you drink too many of them. I found the only cider and it was served to me in what looked more like a beaker stolen from a DePaul University laboratory. My early arrival meant I had the run of the club and plenty of places to sit. A dance floor could be located in the back, but I wasn't curious enough to explore this rather oblong venue, reaching further back than it was wide. As with all lounges, this place is very dark, and blinding candles are set at each table, hindering your night vision more than helping it. Small table tents were easily slid in front of the candle, allowing the right amount of light to cast across the table. Slow jams, grinding, and possible late-night hook-ups can be expected but not confirmed. Ample seating will definitely allow visitors time to relax from bar-hopping this strip, as Black Lion is close to the end of the string of attractions on Milwaukee. The beer selection isn't stellar, but a few staples will guarantee that any beer lover will stay for a couple drinks. read more

Negative because the security in this place. Music and service are always great and its never overly crowded. - On Friday 7/20/2017 - they had a former employee impersonating their security guard and checking our ID's before we entered. I have a habit of asking if anyone checking my ID is security guard at the venue, the individual said yes"I work at Black Lion". I walk up the stairs and have my ID checked again(by the real security guard) and am confused. I mentioned to the security that a person outside is already checking IDs , the real security does not get up to check on this. I later find the person impersonating the security at Black Lion and says he was joking and was a former employee as of last week. In a time where identity theft is a real concern and personal information should be kept private, I don't think this former employee should be playing jokes by impersonating security. I wont be back because security "Black Lion" does not see a concern with people handing their ID's to impersonating security. Anyone else just trying to have a good time, this place is fine. read more

This place has a lot of potential. Came here after Sunday night of North Coast. Going up the stairs after walking all day seemed like a horrible idea, but I followed my friend in. The bartender was very nice, polite, attentive, and introduced himself to us. Being exhausted, I don't remember his name, but he was great. I asked for their blueberry lemonade drink with some of their pomegranate syrup and it was a great summery refreshing drink that made me forget for a few moments that I was covered in sweat, dirt, and dust. The bartender told us that they're planning on opening a rooftop area that bands can play, and I'm really excited to see if that happens! The music was more top 40 than I would have liked... I don't think it suited the ambiance. This is definitely a cute place to get a cocktail and discuss world politics, Dostoevsky, and Dancing with the Stars. read more

This was one of those awesome instances when your night out with a friend gets sidetracked after you pass a place and someone asks, "What the fuck is that place? Is that new??" ...And you actually stop to check it out. So adventurous. I know. Living dangerously. Anyways, the bar was located at the end of staircase which added to that perception of exclusivity (or those house parties you used to go to when you were 19) while also having the additional benefit of working out that flat Chicago winter ass, but the trip was well worth it. It's a cute, cozy, and yet sophisticated designed place that still maintains an informal atmosphere. I recommend you go here for the speciality drink menu! Very low-key Logan Square bar/club, but the name is cool as Hell. Very latino centric, which is cool, and no entry fee as well. Decent music selection as well as beers to go around. Love that they have a TV screen showing the prices of all their drinks they got available- more bars need this feature, in my opinion. Although the place is great, it's not really my cup of tea. If you love dancing and clubbing, but want a more secluded spot near the end of your night, then this place is right up your alley. read more

We arrived in Chicago meet with some friends here on our first night and it was great! The selection of drinks is wide enough that there should be something for almost everyone. There are also many large t.v. screens for viewing pleasure if desired. There are however seats where one can avoid these if they annoy you. According to the bar tender, they have $3 drinks everyday, so we tried some new beers and were able to find many we liked got a great price! At done points the bar was empty except for our group, but that's unbelievable, the interior and music here are great! This place is a hidden gem up a dark staircase. We were in Logan Square yesterday hopping around then some passerbys suggested we check out this new place called the black lion. I don't give many five stars. this is a new establishment in the neighborhood and I was very impressed with the service of every single employee that works there, the drink options they have available, and the prices of the drinks. I am really looking forward to when they open up the rooftop, and the menu is completed within the month so I can eat some brunch or lunch or whatever over there. I'm at the general manager was pretty awesome the drinks kept coming without a long wait, there was no bar sign yet because it was so new but it is coming on Wednesday I think. Came here for the first time visiting Chicago- came because the reviews were very high- I would say this place was a 3+ at best- not sure if it was just the night I came or what- but the place was empty at 1am- the bartenders were not savvy at all when asked for a beer recommendation- I ended up just gazing through the beer selections and picking one I knew of- would prefer to have tried a local brewery or something of that nature as I am always open to new things- but they did not seem too into what they carried. I'd say the only cool thing was the Dj- he played some good songs remixed with different beats and his own mixing in there occasionally. The art on the wall was very cool/ Salvador Dali vibe. There was plenty of seating, and not sure because the bar was empty- there were bar stools all along the wall towards the bathroom- so if this place were to get packed - I feel there would be plenty of seating. Bathrooms were clean Mood and ambiance was dark and chill. I would recommend this place but probably as a pre-stop to other bars along the way. read more

I've heard a lot about this newest addition to Logan Square. All great things, so my wife and I decided to come check it out. We were thoroughly impressed with our experience. Nice, clean and inviting atmosphere. Gracious and welcoming staff. They have a solid cocktail program and a unique selection of whiskeys. They also have a vast beer selection, including quite the collection of local brews from various breweries. All-in-all, we were very impressed and will soon be back! Just moved to Chicago from New York and heard from a co-worker about this place since I love Hip-Hop. Not into the whole club scene so this place was my type of environment. The DJ was amazing! He played all the right music and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. There were two bartenders that helped me out, I believe Michelle and Nikki or was it Vicky? I don't remember, I just remember amazing tats on her arms. They were awesome and delivered great service. Only negative thing was the line for the bathroom and that it didn't flush.
