Fireside is a hidden gem! They have a cozy back patio that feels like you're in a friends backyard. We had the most amazing server, Nadia (I think?). She was so friendly and warm, I didn't run dry on Diet Coke, and she had the perfect pacing. She was genuinely wonderful, the best service we've had at any restaurant in a long time. Onto the food! I came here specifically for the burger that has a fried mac and cheese patty on it. I'm a sucker for those, and it did not disappoint! We first shared the giant pretzel which was really good. I wish it had more salt but the texture was really good. My husband ordered the blackened chicken pasta- the chicken was really well seasoned and cooked, and the pasta sauce was tasty. Still excellent and hubby and I asked why we don't come here more. We again had the yummy bang bang shrimp to start. I ordered a full slab of ribs (to have some to take home) with their fries and their sauce on the side. Delicious! Hubby had their Italian meatball appetizer served with bread and their flavorful marinara sauce. So good! I hate ordering pasta sauce in restaurants that have no flavor. This is so not that! Nothing bland about it! We had drinks so our bill was over $100 for the two of us. You know liquor makes your bill much higher. But it was a nice date night and so worth it. This place holds a special place in my heart. It's got a Cheers vibe- where everyone knows your name! The food is classic American. Most recently stopped in for a burger after working late night. I literally have never had a bad meal here. The kitchen is open late which is appreciated. You often see people coming in for pick ups. The food, however, I would rate as 4 stars, as there was a black lump in my mashed potatoes that appeared to be a hard black lump of the potato itself - I simply removed it and ate the potatoes that tasted fine. The codfish, broccoli, and coffee were as great as always - I especially love the homemade tartar sauce - this is a favorite dish I've had many times and one of the reasons that I'm a frequent diner at Fireside. Walking in, the place is shabby, lowkey kinda dirty, and there were bugs crawling all around the windows. We were veryyyy skeptical. Our server was great and gave good recommendations about the menu. I ended up with the blackened salad and the portion was large, and the seasoning on the chicken was super flavorful! My husband got crispy cod tacos and they were bombbb, really unexpectedly good. We had a friend with us that has a lot of allergies, and they were accommodating to that as well and happily brought him another option when the first thing he ordered didn't work out. So the rating would have been lower on ambiance alone - they could definitely use a deep clean of all the walls and windows inside. We had visited this restaurant before, and unfortunately the service was extremely slow. The staff even forgot to bring us utensils, but we decided to give the restaurant another chance, hoping our previous experience was an exception. Unfortunately, our second visit was even more disappointing. When we arrived, we were told that the patio would be closing at 10 PM and were refused seating there. Although we asked politely if an exception could be made, the response we received was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. Good customer service is about more than just serving food--it also includes professionalism, courtesy, and making guests feel welcome. Based on our experiences, the staff seems to lack these qualities. Loved the neighborhood vibes of this quaint bar near Rosehill cemetery. We visited Fireside recently for a Halloween event and had a good time. We ordered cocktails from their Halloween menu and had the Expresso yourself drink. Strong coffee flavor with a punch of vodka. We enjoyed it. We ordered their bar food and the chicken tenders with fries were pretty tasty! I would definitely order them again if we're back. It was a busy night, but our server checked in on us when she could. We were not in a hurry and luckily secured a table thanks to the husband snagging a pair of seats before the crowd arrived. From the front entrance, it looks small but it's actually long and there's extra seating past the bar in the back patio. It's enclosed and could probably seat another 50-75 people. I want to like this place but the food here is not good. Customer service is good. Our server was very nice and pleasant. However, the food here is awful. I came to meet a friend for a light dinner. I ordered calamari and she ordered the chicken quesadillas. Her quesadilla was soggy, plenty of cheese but no chicken at all. I ordered the calamari which was warm, very bland with no seasoning and the most disgusting cocktail sauce I ever had. Gritty, sweet and just not appetizing. We held a ~50-person event at Fireside. One attendee said it was the best buffet they'd ever had. We opted for mini-sliders, coconut shrimp, chicken quesadillas with guac and other sauces, chopped fruit, and mini crab cakes. Quite good. Servers kept up with refilling the water etc. as well as they could. Nice large, bright patio with 10 or so tables is 75 degrees even when it's snowing outside. Great place I'll return to. What a unique restaurant that's tucked away off n ravenswood. They've been around since 1904 and you can feel the nostalgia. A cozy restaurant with a bar on the other side. Their "special" is their ribs... it's what they're supposedly known for. Well, I ordered the 1/2 slab, and even paid the additional $2 to have them blacken "the other side"...which is weird... cause, really, what are they doing besides turning over the ribs?! It comes, it's cold, and looks like it fell on the floor and the rub looks like it's just floor crap! Taste? Well, yep, like it fell on the floor and tasted like floor! Just vial. I can only assume that the chefs, cooks, help, managers, and owners have never actually tasted their own product... because if they did, they would deem it unacceptable to serve to their patrons. I actually ate it. Why, cause I was starving and more importantly, my New Year's resolution was not to confront the server, who by the way was lovely, and return food. I've been wanting to come here for a while, having driven past it several times. Parking is easy in the attached lot. The inside is spacious and I had no idea about the really cool back patio. It has a very nature focused feel, with birds chirping, and plants on the walls. Happy hour is good, with a few drinks discounted. The food left a little to be desired, as there are very few vegetarian options and the food seemed like reheated, frozen stuff. Next time I will have to try the famous ribs. read more

If I would have wrote this review a year ago, It would have been 3-stars but the food has gotten better but the lack of staff is still and issue that clearly hasn't been real solved. I came in for a quick lunch and got the spinach salad without onions and a side of sweet potato totes. The Totes were fantastic, soft on the inside but with a little crisp on the outside. The salad was also very fresh and flavorful, with mushrooms were quite unique but, I am glad I asked for the vignette dressing on the side because it was a lot of dressing that was a bit tart. Well it's been at least 15 years since I've dined at Fireside inn. I thought since it is neighborhood establishment and I was craving calamari and I also saw they had crispy cod tacos . Note to self .. Tom you've been burned too many times ordering fried foods. Especially seafood. And especially at the price they charged for a child's portion of calamari. I swear that order in the restaurant when I had it was almost twice the size .serving it on top of a dressed mescaline salad didn't help neither did it help ( my fault ) for clicking two tarter sauce no cocktail sauce when I should've clicked the opposite. Next the "crispy " cod tacos three small pieces of fried cod drowned in a not very flavorful Cole slaw. Some chipotle peppers or some of adobo sauce would've help . Maybe served the slaw on the side and let customer dress their taco . I asked correctly for extra salsa but on got one container salsa verde no heat a container of sour cream ( who's taco didn't need any more moisture . Not a fan . Glad I didn't order fish and chips 1 dollar more for that and most likely would've had soggy fries and fish . $52 bucks for two items service fee tip tax . Nah won't be ordering take out again from here. Like I said it's been years since eating there. It's nice to see that some of the old favorite places survived the pandemic (and also survived us moving away and not being customers anymore). Fireside is a cozy venue for a wintry evening dinner. There is convenient parking in the small lot, and the menu is large enough to please any group with various tastes, including children. Fried calamari was just okay but the giant pretzel with beer cheese was so satisfying. I took home half of my (delicious) blackened chicken salad because I had filled up on appetizers. It was too difficult to choose just one. Burgers, sandwiches, ribs, pasta, smoked mac & cheese...I'll see you next time. The kids' pizza was darn tasty and big enough to feed any adult. Service is consistently friendly and makes you feel at home, and is a go-to for me personally when biking around in the area. Then the food ! We started with bang bang shrimp (yum), goat cheese (yum), giant pretzel (yum) buffalo cauliflower. All yummy. I had the chopped salad- it was perfect on a hot night. The Cajun Meatloaf came out lukewarm at best, the sauce on the top had developed a "skin" from sitting so long and the meatloaf itself was salty and way over seasoned. I have been to Fireside several times and have always had decent service. I like they have kids meals and it makes for a decent family meal when we visit my dad who lives nearby. This last visit (6.9.24) was the worst and probably the last. I want to point out that we made the mistake of trying to eat out during Sommarfest on a Saturday, but we were desperate to feed the kids while visiting my dad. We try not to travel too far out of the area for my dad's sake, and we weren't about to head into the fest. We walked in around 7:30 and the hostess told us that the kitchen was backed up, the bar area was full, and the wait was at least 20 minutes. We said ok, we can wait. We took a walk and at 7:50pm returned. We were told that the kitchen was still backed up on food orders, ad the hostess walked off to discuss with the manager on the wait. Rather than speaking to us herself, the manager on shift talked to the hostess right in front of us and then ran off again. The hostess explained she could seat us but only give us drinks for now. Ok Fine. We were seated on the patio with drink menus and some kids menus for the kids. so far so good. After a few minutes the hostess returned with food menus and the said the kitchen was catching up and open again. However, we had still not been greeted by a server and had no drinks. After 20 minutes, still no server, no drinks, and no apologies. We began packing up to leave and that's when the server showed up. By then it was a little too late. Again, I understand it was busy. Maybe they were short staffed. i don't know. but SOMEONE could have popped over to see if we needed anything. Multiple employees walked past us without so much as a glance. Honestly it seemed disorganized and chaotic. I don't want to end this with a bad note, clearly something was amiss, but I'd rather be told they weren't seating anyone as opposed to leading me on and wasting my family's time. read more
