The space is gorgeous on its own -- not a blank slate at all -- so we didn't need nearly as many decorations or flowers as we did at other venues we considered. Our guests raved all day about how beautiful and unique the building was. One of the biggest advantages is that the entire venue is yours for the day. There are no other weddings or events happening at the same time, which makes everything feel calm, special, and centered on your celebration. We had a Sunday brunch wedding, held our ceremony downstairs (very cozy and intimate), and our reception upstairs in the ballroom. The flow between spaces was seamless, and the ballroom floor is amazing for dancing. The sound system was excellent -- speeches and music were crystal clear. Gretchen was wonderful to work with throughout the planning process. She provided vendor recommendations, kept us on track to meet deadlines, and answered all of our questions. We used J&L Catering for our food and Schaffer's for alcohol, and both were excellent and the liquor from Schaffer's was a significant cost savings. Another huge bonus: so many essentials are included with the rental, such as tables, chairs, silverware, and plates. At other venues, those items can be surprisingly expensive to source. Logistically, this location is hard to beat. There are several hotels and great restaurants within walking distance, making it incredibly easy for our out-of-town guests to enjoy an entire weekend in Evanston. Our local guests appreciated that parking is free in Evanston on Sundays and close to the venue. There are also plenty of bathrooms on the same floors where all the events take place -- a small detail that makes a big difference for guest comfort. Finally, it felt meaningful to support a historic building and philanthropic organization rather than a large hotel chain. Overall, we highly recommend The Woman's Club of Evanston as a premier wedding venue in the greater Chicagoland area. We couldn't imagine having celebrated anywhere else.

It is a gorgeous old mansion with deep roots; the manager (Gretchen) is kind, reliable, and so easy to work with; the preferred caterer we used (Catering by Michaels) was raved about by our guests; and the gift of bringing your own alcohol was huge. Our guests kept commenting on the uniqueness of the space, how great it was to have a pianist playing during our cocktail hour on the first floor, and how joyful and bright the ballroom looked. It was honestly beyond anything I imagined. A few extra things of note - our guests stayed at the Graduate Evanston which is barely a block away (no shuttles needed!); there is a huge parking garage across the street so nobody was looking for parking; and have I mentioned how beautiful the space is? I wish I had a reason to throw a huge event again - I would go back to the Women's Club every time. Huge thank you to Gretchen and her team!

It's majestic and stunning, esp with the sun shining through. 3) It's only 6 blocks from Lake Michigan! We took advantage of this for our wedding photos. 4) The cozy fireplace inside. 5) It's located right off the Metra... and right around the corner from Homer's Ice Cream. We found a hidden gem in the KC and are so glad we found it for our wedding ceremony and reception. Brittany provided a thorough tour when we first visited the space, and manager Kris was really responsive to my needs, especially in the week before the big day. And lastly, major props to Nick, who held the fort down on the night of the wedding and ensured everything went smoothly! P.S. It's said the interior can hold a party of 200, but that would be really cramped. We had 134 and filled the space pretty fully (without tables being pushed into the front lobby area).

The venue is beautiful, historic, and well-maintained, yet the pricing and contract requirements are completely reasonable and fair. We felt comfortable and at home from that very first visit. We also found an excellent caterer (Catered by Design) from their preferred catering list. Monique was a dream to work with--so organized and punctual yet laid-back and flexible. We received so many compliments on the venue from our guests. While we opted to have both our ceremony and reception indoors, Monique allowed us to open up the lawn and patio to guests for cocktail hour, which was absolutely stunning and a huge hit. I would recommend Kenilworth to anyone looking for a wedding venue!

Apparently, the center hosts many performing arts programs that include dance, theater, music and more.  When we were viewing artwork of the exhibit, a friendly elderly actor of the center greeted us while taking a break on a comfy couch.  We could hear music rehearsal in the theatre when we passed by. They also have education programs, youth sports programs, a full-service fitness center, classes and lectures -- all kinds of activities that help enrich lives of residents of not just Winnetka, but of the broader North Shore. When I read their Yelp reviews, I learnt that the center is even a popular weddings and events venue!  It is truly a versatile community house! As a privately supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Community House is not funded through tax dollars.  It's good to know that donations are 100% tax deductible.

Sahra, the venue coordinator, was such a great communicator which was such a relief because we were planning this wedding from out of state. She was so responsive to our questions and kept everything running smoothly with our vendors on our wedding day. While this venue is a community center, our wedding felt completely private. Any locals in the community who happened across us while taking photos in the early afternoon were so kind and respectful, and our wedding ceremony and reception was completely private. The fact that this venue also has an indoor space to be used as a back-up plan in case of weather also gave us peace of mind. The venue has so many cute areas for photos, and the courtyard was absolutely stunning. So grateful to have found this place!

I haven't had the privilege of seeing any of their adult productions (hopefully soon), but this…read morereview is for their student workshops. I thought it would be fun for my daughter to take a mid summer break from her beloved summer camp and do a week long theater camp. Music Theater Works had come highly recommended and when I saw the first week was Annie (my personal fave) I signed her up...and asked 3 of her friends to join her. She's been in a few shows with a local theater group called Skyline, but I had a feeling this was going to be at a different level...especially since at 8 years old she would be one of the youngest in the group. The student workshops are for kids ages 8-13. I told her to expect a small part (to avoid any disappointment) and to just have fun. Day 1 she came home absolutely delighted that she had scored the part of Annie along with other girls in the cast (they assign several people to the bigger roles to make it manageable to learn in a week). She loved the singing, the dancing, the games...all of it! Day 2 she came home in tears that her Annie part was way smaller than she had expected and she was "not going back and certainly never acting again." After a very long night I convinced her that quitting wasn't an option and sent her on her way the next day. I was hopeful that "the sun would come out tomorrow" ;) I have to give a shoutout to the Workshop Manager, Anya, who took time out of her busy evening to talk thru the issue with me and went out of her way to make my daughter feel better the next day. Day 3 turned out to be a much better one and she had the nerve to ask (after hours of crying on Day 2) if she could do another show this summer. Days 4 and 5 she came home happy, but absolutely exhausted. Who knew that an indoor theater camp would be more exhausting than day camp in the heat? Day 6 was showtime. They had a 2.5 hour rehearsal and then put on a 5 star production (45 minutes long) of Annie for their family and friends . I couldn't believe what they had accomplished in just a week and somehow every single kid (in a cast of 40) knew all their lines, dance moves, etc. -------- Overall, this turned out to be an amazing experience and one that I hope she does again next summer. I actually wish they taught a kids workshop year round because it was such a terrific experience. A few suggestions to make it absolutely perfection: * Give the actual parts when you give the kids their roles to avoid the disappointment that happened to my child (and a few others). * Mic the kids! We were lucky enough to be sitting in the 2nd row so could hear the kids, but those sitting in the back mentioned they could hardly hear anything. I can imagine it's difficult to mic 40 kids, but they were there 2.5 hours early and it's a shame so many parents missed out on hearing their kids. * 40 kids is too many. They mentioned several times that Annie is their most popular show and by far the biggest, but 40 kids didn't allow for all the kids to be on the stage at once (for the bigger dance #s). It also meant there was more downtime in the beginning of the week when everyone was learning their lines/songs, which may have contributed to the day 2 issues. My daughter did mention if she does it again she would prefer a smaller cast so that she could get more stage time, but think they should cut off enrollment after 30 kids for all shows. The good news for anyone looking for a week long activity for their kids is that there is space remaining in the 4 other shows this summer (Fiddler on the Roof, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang & 42nd Street). Your kids will have the best time, learn new skills and you'll be so proud of what they accomplish in such a short time. Thanks to the amazing staff at Music Theater Works.

It was on our list of wedding venues to tour--we arrived, and immediately fell in love. The staff was extremely professional and worked efficiently throughout the process. They answered every single question, and accommodated us when annotating the contract, helping us schedule and track payments, preparing the timeline for the day of, and helped us figure out a LOT of last minute changes. They offered a time for a walk through and assistance with setup the day before, which made the day of the wedding so much less stressful. They take care of EVERYTHING; set up, tear down, linens, place settings, table numbers, water, wine, changing courses, bridal suite, the bar, you name it! We just had to walk in and enjoy. The food was restaurant-quality - no banquet halls here! Many people emphatically said that was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. The menu tasting was a wonderful experience guided by the Chief of Staff, and included a personal visit from the chef near the end. There are many great food and wine options, it was hard to limit ourselves to just a few! The staff was very helpful in accommodating our guests with dietary restrictions and allergies; if one of the food choices would not work, they created a special alternative dish for them at no extra charge. They were so organized, they even remembered to not drizzle honey on one of our guest's dessert. I checked with every single one of our guests who needed an accommodation, and every single one was fulfilled. We even had a guest who was arriving late; his food was kept warm and brought out immediately when he arrived. As the bride and groom, we got to sit at the head table with our personal Head Waiter, Justin, who was awesome. He made sure our water and wine glasses were always full, and would personally deliver them to us throughout the night whether we were chatting at a table or in the middle of the dance floor. He said he was there if we needed anything, and he always jumped in to help with a smile. Our guests repeatedly told us how beautiful, elegant, and classy the venue was. The Tiffany Room and first floor galleries were the perfect setup for cocktail hour, and everyone loved the gorgeous glasswork (and open bar). The Wisteria room, bathed in candlelight, with a view of the Chicago Skyline, was perfect for dinner and dancing. The staff was professional and helpful, and the entire event ran smoothly. We specifically wanted a venue that would "do it all" so we didn't have to, and Halim Time and Glass Museum absolutely delivered. We treasure the experience we had on our special day and thank Jessica and all of the staff for making it the perfect experience.

(Note: No Schlitz cocktails were harmed in the making of this Yelp review.) --- So naturally we found a stray beat-up pit bull yesterday and he loves us. Like I usually hate these rescue dog things but this maniac was actually running with traffic and dodging cars after wandering onto the I-90 Kennedy Expressway yesterday. Last night we had him stay overnight at the vet in Skokie, IL because it was the only place open and she basically said that he's got a litany of problems to deal with but that he's generally healthy and fixable. Shane named him Kennedy after the stretch of the I-90/Kennedy Expressway where we found him, but I just call him Kenny. He seems to like watching the expressway from a car window more than running along it in 70-mph traffic. -- We asked about the weird growths on his hind legs and figured that they were horrible tumors and that he was in a lot of pain and would probably have to be put down out of mercy. But apparently they're just benign cysts that don't hurt him and he's fine. Miracle dog. She said he's maybe four years old. He's 90 pounds of pure muscle. And he's got old bite scars on his face which the vet said probably came from years ago when he was maybe attacked by another dog, but she said that he probably wasn't used in any dogfighting situations. Possibly used as a breeder dog. Really messed up. The main problem is that he has a torn ACL which we need to get fixed and will cost us some. Looks like he got hit by a car recently and messed up his hind leg. We've got him taking some pain meds but this nutcase doesn't even care, he just wants to run around regardless of his limp. Just the sweetest guy ever. He hasn't barked once, has no problems with other dogs, and just loves to lick our faces while we drink beers and play loud guitars. I just love this guy. We were walking down the street with him yesterday, and between the two of us and this terrifying-looking pit bull, everyone was just crossing the street and getting the living hell out of our way. Weirdest thing that makes me know he was abused in some way is that we'll give him cheeseburgers and loads of dog food and he won't eat it in front of us. Like he gets really nervous when we give him food. Shane and I have to pull him toward the bowl and whenever he takes a bite, he looks back at us like we're about to punish him for eating. I got down on all fours today and pretended to be a dog eating dog food  out of his bowl to show him that being a dog and eating food was okay, and then he seemed to get the joke and just licked my face and started to chow down. Definitely our spiritual animal. But he eats when we leave him alone. Otherwise he just wants to hang. By the way, I was just acting. Didn't have it in me to actually take a bite but hey, Kenny took a bite. -- Schwarzenegger dog is so afraid of Shane's cat... He likes other dogs but just whimpers when this tiny cat stares him down. -- Well Kenny Dog had a pretty bad epileptic seizure last night... So that throws me another curveball. He didn't look like he was in pain but still concerning. -- So in a nice twist, it turns out that my cousin's wife didn't want to be a law professor at Northwestern anymore and preferred to run an animal shelter in wealthy Evanston, Illinois, where people apparently can't stop donating funds. So looks like Kenny-boy is going to get his surgery. And that's just a huge relief that this is going to happen. Probably headed for adoption. I want to keep this damn guy because I just love him but I'm freakin allergic. Never barks. Is that good? Probably good. But I feel like if I were a messed up pit bull I'd be barking quite a bit. -- Alright I miss Ken-Dog like hell but he's already been adopted by some rich family in Evanston, Illinois, probably learning about the virtues of Joe Biden, veganism, and intersectional feminism. He's got an awesome life. I guess his leg was actually way more messed up than we thought and he was in some pain which is why he was shuddering at night when we thought he was having seizures. Great to hear he already got some surgeries and that he's sleeping easily because I love that dog. I almost think I should take my chances just walking in traffic on the Kennedy Expressway and see how it works out.
