My kids enjoyed the baking class. They learned so much in just a few classes. I recommend Sarah's classes for kids of all ages.

Poko Loko Early Learning Center

Poko Loko Glenview is just a delightful place for little children. Upon walking in, you almost feel…read morelike you are being transported into a Mr. Rogers episode! There's color everywhere, a train track suspended from the ceiling, a piano, and many smiling faces. My daughter attended the Jr. KG class for only a month or so and really loved her teachers! They focus on various themes and split their day up nicely between learning and playing! Although we know learning does take place while playing. Haha! They have an attached outdoor playground, which is nice! Breakfast is provided if your child gets there by 8. Lunch and snacks are also provided. It is a nut free facility. Cubbies are clearly labeled if a child has an allergy! It is organized perfectly! Poko Loko definitely has a family vibe!

Since we moved to Chicago we have been doing our very best and paying out of pocket for him to get speech and occupational therapy. After just 2 months at Poko Loko and 3 separate instances of being called to pick up our son early due to screaming and hitting another child (he's 3 years old) we were patronizingly told by the owner Bonnie "in 52 years of experience I've only had to ask 2 other children to leave. You have until Fall." Statements like that aren't helpful, they make me feel bad about my son, and they are unprofessional. I seriously doubt that my son is the only difficult child they've had, and if so, then their experience is worthless, because they are unwilling to help or even give him time to settle in from a major transition like moving across the country. Before we were asked to leave the center, the manager and owner made no effort to guide us (52 years of experience right?), come up with an action plan, and offered no insight on local resources to help our son. They wanted us out. This review primarily addresses the Owner and manager. The teachers tried. The moral of the story is that they are simply looking for a frictionless tuition check while making little effort to actually help the parents and children. All while charging top dollar rates. I am very disappointed in the unprofessionalism and the downright rude way in which we were asked to leave the center. I made it known that the next time a child needs some help, offering more support and guidance using their years of experience might help the parents and kid more than a simple goodbye.

My son is a student at this school and he loves it. It is a school for "gifted" children and while…read moreI hate that label it is what it is. The school goes from pre K-8th grade which is a great thing since the kids will be in one school until high school. It is a private school so it does cost quite a bit but it really is an exceptional school. Whether or not it's worth the money I can't really say. Personally, I would cringe at the price tag if Einstein himself were teaching my child. They just built a new building this year and it is amazing. So much better than the old building they were in. Lots of room and the capability to have more students, classes and teachers. Some pros: The facility is wonderful, the teachers are great and really care about the kids. Reading and math are based on ability, not on grade. So, if your 5-6 year old is reading like a nine-year old, they will be put in with those readers. The school isn't even "grade" based. there is no "1st grade", etc. It is level based. They have a GREAT fine arts program. Extensive art, music and drama programs that you won't find in a public school. Some cons: There is a bit of an elitist attitude there at times but I think it comes more from parents than the staff. There is a bit of communication problem with the school and the parents. There just doesn't seem to be a cohesive way for parents to get the information they need. If you're considering sending your child here, definitely sign up for a visit and a shadow day. Personally, as long as we can afford it, my son will be going to this school.

One of the things about SAA that makes it unique is that the fact that you will do as well as the work you put in. As long as you take advantage of the local resources and have some self motivation to do well, it isn't hard to master the schoolwork and beyond. The teachers are willing to help if you are willing to ask, even when it comes down to academics beyond the classroom. For example, when I needed help for my High School application, or improving my SAT scores, my teachers were glad to lend me a hand. Also, I have to give props to the excelled math program that SAA offers. Where I initially did not enjoy math as a subject at all, SAA motivated me to improve my math ability. I eventually became part of the Math Team and found a passion for mathematics. SAA was a great choice for me, and I got a lot out of my experience.

Countryside Montessori School

Our daughter attended CMS for eleven years (pre/elementary/middle school). She had an amazing…read moreexperience there: everything from the teachers to staff, other students and parents. The primary function of school should be learning. CMS excels at this, of course, but it also excels at teaching children the love of learning. This is such a foundational piece of one's being. Countryside's teachers and staff embody the spirit in their essence. Our daughter learned at a very early age the foundation of Montessori: respect, responsibility and resourcefulness. They don't take the easy way, but they take the best way to teach children ways to be strong, independent and well educated. Our daughter has thrived due to their nurturing environment. She's gone on many service trips, become a silent leader and now in high school, still enjoys going to school every day and learning new topics. CMS instilled this into her (and us) at an early age and together we've watched her become a wonderful young adult. CMS may not be for everyone, but if you want to raise an independent, self confident young adult, please take the time to visit the school, talk with the teachers and staff and learn their perspective. They are professional educators and take this very seriously. We are not teachers. We are not professional educators. But it was quite clear when we first visited them, that they are professionals and are dedicated to their mission. We were fortunate to have watched the school transition from the original headmaster to the current headmaster (Wendy Calise) and the transition was as seamless as possible. We've also seen the middle school program develop with the addition of new staff and a new building. They've incorporated the core principles of Maria Montessori and have created a program that runs from their toddler program all the way through eight grade. The school puts so much back into the community, staff and parents. We always felt a part of the school and learned so much in how to best raise our daughter in a consistent environment with the school. We really could not have envisioned a better program for her!

Unfortunately, our experience at Countryside wasn't great. We learned very quickly that our 18…read moremonth old child (at the time) was constantly being restrained and the only child being restrained- which goes against the montessori philosophy. After 2.5 months, we immediately removed him of this institution, despite paying that hefty tuition.

This is our 12th year at Christian Heritage Academy and surprisingly (or not surprisingly) enough,…read morewe fall at about middle on the years-at-CHA spectrum. There are families who have been a part of the CHA family for 20+ years due to multiple children and grandchildren... This is such a testimony to what kind of place CHA is. CHA has been such an important part of our family. Ever since the beginning, when my children started in the preschool classes, to life's ups and many downs, there has not been a time where our lives were not positively touched by someone associated with CHA, whether it'd be faculty, staff or friends. We love the small class sizes as the teachers really get to know my children--their strengths, weaknesses, and quirks--to work with me to nurture them. The faculty and staff really try to model Christ in what they say and do. I love this environment where the daily activities are bathed in prayer (daily morning faculty devotions to start!) and that my children and I are being prayed for. As icing on the cake, CHA offers a strong academic program as well. My daughter, who is a junior in the Upper School this year, is constantly being challenged with a multitude of AP and Duel Credit courses. All courses are taught through a biblical lens and I believe this helps my children a unique perspective to the world around them. CHA offers opportunities for sports, theater, student council, paper--and almost everything else in between so the opportunities for all that my children are provided. The bond between the students is strong as they encourage each other, pray for each other and just love on each other. I am so appreciative towards CHA--its dedication to bringing up soldiers for the Kingdom. It truly has been a blessing in our lives.

Back then my son was in preschool in kindergarten so he didn't really know what was going on but now he's in third grade and he communicates with us perfectly. While looking through his old yearbook together, we stumbled upon this teacher's picture. He said she was very unkind to him with another kid and him were trying to grab an item. He would always give it to the other kid and yell at him . He said he specifically felt singled up by her that she was nice to everybody except him and it was making him very confused but now that he's older and can understand I told him about racism. I told him there's certain people that think they're they're better than others because of their skin color and they like to abuse, helpless little children, while smiling at their occupation, saying that their Christians, that is absolutely disgusting . SHe would always pull him aside and be mean to him while smiling in our faces. My wife thought she was the nicest one there. But she is a racist just trying to cover herself. Christian Heritage Academy you should do better and you should be ashamed of yourself hiring people like that. We trust you with our kids. And we pay you very well for the services. Please get your act together. We are truly disappointed in you 10 thumbs down for you guys.
